Well...it would be hard to convince the other. Hell, even the Phantom Thieves were amazed about his agility when he first fought like they half expected him to kneel over and die of a heart attack. Damn kids . What Shinjiro thinks is him trying to act tough and cool...is actually him trying to act tough and cool but only because he has the ability to back it up. He doesn't speak up at first, eyes darting around as if to take in the scene once more.
Then it all clicks.
There were other clues already laid bare - most people he had met didn't know the little details of his world. It was the first time being in someone else's world...memories...that he recognized the location, albeit barely and in part due to a scandal, but still a connection.
When he also spots the moving thing nearby as well, it seems to confirm his hypothesis. Besides, it would be single-minded to think that only the Phantom Thieves existed when it came to Persona users. Zenkichi had wondered it too, for the brief weeks that he was with them. Could there be others? And while it didn't look the same as the creatures he had fought, the overall aspect of it felt somehow familiar.
If this was just a memory or real, either way he'd take it head-on instead of trying to get away. Sorry, kid.
"I'll be fine," he insists, a little softer as he sees the other going to grab his arm, "despite my age.". He wants to say 'I have a power like yours' but what if he's wrong? What if this isn't the same thing at all? His detective background makes him know he can't prove it quite yet right now even if it seems to scream that it is. Better just come out with it and see what happens. Either way, the guy is right; something is coming.
He takes a step forward, and in a burst of bluish flames, his outfit changes, replaced by a far more ridiculous one looking more like he should be an extra in a movie than fighting.
It's what comes next, however, that's far more telling.
"Valjean!"
The Persona seemingly appears rising from the ground to finally hover behind him, easily towering twice his height. Raising its caged and chained arms, it sends out spheres of light that beam down upon the creature. Megidolaon.
....he just hopes that this isn't some sort of illusion meaning he's destroying someone's property.
