HALLOWEEN

Another Halloween has arrived in Reverein, and the Nightmare Troupe returns from their mysterious origins to help transform the carnival grounds to fit the season. They've added a new feature attraction: The Labyrinth, where everyone just runs around to fight spooky baddies for candy, prizes, and flex one's combat abilities in dreamotion. It's all in good fun, of course!

More details on everything can be found here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in October and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of October 25th, just before the event ICly begins. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count October as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.

IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.

TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open October 25th and Applications will open on November 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until January.

I. CARNIVAL

While the carnival grounds still have the standard fare of attractions themed up for Halloween, there are a few new ones popping up thanks to the Nightmare Troupe. Some are similar to what appeared last year, but with a different look to them. Some, perhaps, more terrifying than before.

A. Personalized Costumes. All throughout Reverein boutiques and tailors are in full swing to create costumes for those who wish to wear, either by renting or buying. However, for those who are a bit adverse, the fairy godmothers are out and about ready to employ their fashion magic to grant anyone and everyone a special Halloween costume, just for them! There might be the slight side effect that the wearer may behave like the costume itself, but it's just a temporary phase.

B. Vampring Frights. The vamprings are still out and about, nibbling on nightmares. But now they are also appearing outside of dreams, deciding that a bit of fear could make as good of a snack or meal as any other. Only the ones that are truly hungry will appear, so a little purple blob will bounce and latch onto any part of their target's body they can reach (though they particularly like the top of the head). Those who are bitten in this manner won't try to bite others, fortunately. Instead, they will become something like a "Vampring minion" and try to invoke fear and scare others. C. Monster Swaps. Small monsters will roam the carnival grounds and will swap bodies with random people to go around pulling pranks and tricks in the person's body. The person is now trapped in the monster's body, but has access to the monster's trickster, spooky abilities as well (ie, players can make this up). To return to normal, they must find their original body and bite it. Otherwise, they will have to wait for the monster to get bored and return to switch them back.

D. Carnival Fare. Here are a few of the general games and attractions available for carnival goers to enjoy.

🔫 Zombie Shooter. Ride through a rickety car through a building and shoot the "zombies" that pop up with bright green paintball guns. While most are cardboard, there are a few volunteers that dress for the occasion. Don't mind their pain as they get hit, they're fine.
👻 Spooky Stories. Instead of a fire, there is a boiling cauldron set up where people can gather around and try to conjure up their spookiest story. The steam over the cauldron will change and twist to try and illustrate the story as it goes, and should it proof particularly scary, a manifestation of the terror will crawl out of it to terrorize everyone for a little bit before disappearing.
🍏 Poisoned Apples. Special caramel covered green apples are handed out throughout the carnival. One bite will inflict one or more of the following effects: floating, dizzy, sugar rush, creepy, frightful. (Players are free to be creative and come up with additional effects!)
🧹 Broom Carousel. The horses have been replaced with different styles of witch brooms, letting everyone have a safe experience of flying on a broom. Until the brooms suddenly fly out of the carousel and into the carnival. Hang on or stop that broom!
🎃 Pumpkin Carving Challenge. Pumpkins can be found all over the grounds, and there is a challenge to carve them with dreamotion and light a special candle in them. Doing so will bring the pumpkin to life and behave like whatever expression or drawing carved on them. Whether they behave nicely is a different matter. Blowing out the candle will stop the pumpkin.

E. House of Mirrors. The House of Mirrors will have new mirrors installed that have new special effects…many making everyone inside feel not quite themselves.

🎭 Jekyll and Hyde. A black framed mirror where the opposite version of the viewer appears to taunt them.
💅 Narcissism. A gold framed mirror where one will see the best version of themselves and will stand stuck in front of it admiring themselves. They will need to be forcibly dragged away…else they may get stuck on the mirror.
🛌 Dream or Nightmare? A silver framed mirror that will reflect either a good dream or a nightmare that's on the viewer's mind. It will be a strong image, so strong that the viewer may be tempted to dreamwalk into the mirror, either to be a part of it or to destroy it. Some help may be required to help them either accomplish their goal or pull them out.
🪞 Mirror Version. Sometimes, a "mirror version" of the viewer may reach out to switch places, trapping the original inside the mirror while the mirror version goes out to cause some chaos. The trapped person can only traverse through mirrors, and can only be freed if the mirrored version is shoved back into any mirror. One way to tell a mirror version apart is that they will randomly reflect things off their body.

F. Haunted Ryokan. A haunted Japanese styled inn is the theme for this year's "haunted house." On the outside, it looks invitingly eerie, with life-sized traditional Japanese dolls as their hosts and guides. They hope their new patrons will enjoy their stay…forever.

🏮 Peony Lantern. At first a beautiful woman will appear holding a lantern and take a person's hand to lead them through the narrow halls lit by floating lanterns. But whenever they pass under a lantern, the woman's form changes into a skeleton. Once they are noticed, they will screech and chase them through the hallways and rooms to the next location, but if left alone it will quietly lead them without issue.
🛁 Bathhouse. Somehow they get to the bathing area where the steam rises thick around them. Without warning a ghostly figure of a long-haired drowned woman will crawl out and chase with a bloody knife. Fish spirits will also fly out to impede them, but they could be used to smack the woman instead. Should someone slip in the water, they'll feel hands grab at them, trying to pull them under…
🪦 Graveyard. Past the courtyard is a graveyard where all manner of Japanese inspired ghosts and demons roam. A special paper talisman is available, and once powered with positive dreamotion it will create a shikigami that will help ward off and defend against the ghosts. But it must have constant dreamotion poured into it, so should it ever go out, the ghosts and demons will suddenly rush into chase.
🐕 Shiba Statues. Should anyone be having a truly terrible time, special little shiba inu statues will trot in to dispel the "evils" and give the visitor some much needed comfort and respite. They will even guide them to the exit if needed. Those who manage to pass through on their own will also meet the shiba inu statues and have a chance to play with them as if in congratulations.

II. LABYRINTH

A big structure now occupies the area just beyond the Fairgrounds. Towering stone walls hide complex pathways inside, and it turns out its express purpose is not to get people lost, but for a little bit of exploration. There is no entrance/exit, just a special circular teleportation pad that will take them inside and there is no end goal. It's not difficult to get out once inside, but the winding paths encourage visitors to check behind corners for treats because there's a lot of treats AND tricks!

A. Halloween Creatures. The labyrinth is populated with silly creatures held together by craft glue and duct tape both dreamotion and nightmare. These creatures will attack on sight, but subdue them and reap the rewards: candy and silly toys! It's all for fun, after all.

🦴 Skeletons. Their bones are made of rubber and most physical attacks will bounce off them. Have to get in close to blast with dreamotion!
🕷 Glow-In-The-Dark Plastic Spiders. Will shoot sticky licorice webbing that will trip up and trap any caught in it. Have to eat through it to get out, and the flavor could either be red or black.
🔺 Candy Corn Golems. Chuck giant pieces of candy corn that are delicious, but hurt! Golems will melt under intense heat.

B. Mysterious Doors. Sometimes, you may find a door at one of the dead ends. Knock, and most of the time a kindly old lady (where did she come from? Don't worry about it–) will present you with special trick-or-treat bags. The other times, a swarm of genuinely sinister nightmare creatures will come pouring out. Oops! Try again next time! Here are some of the items the old lady will give and their effects (they can be taken home after the event):

🧙 Witch's Hat. The hat will automatically fly on top of the person's head and will allow them to cast silly hexes of misfortune on their targets.
🧹 Witch's Broom. Can fly at fast speeds for a few minutes at a time. Only goes up to three feet in the air.
🤓 Plastic Fangs. These fangs will fit themselves in the person's mouth and will allow them to bite any candy corn golem or sticky spider licorice webbing with ease. And normal foods, too.
🕸 Spray Can of Licorice Webbing. Releases a spray of licorice webbing similar to the ones used by the plastic spiders.
🧻 Roll of Toilet Paper. Exactly as it says.
🍫 Nougat Center. A delicious treat that will temporarily boost one's stats dreamotion abilities.

C. Beware of Steve. If you're very unlucky, you may hear an ominous clatter in the distance... The low rumble of a revving chainsaw... Those who spend lots of time in the labyrinth will know soon enough–those are noises that mean you need to run. Because STEVE, THE 20-FOOT-TALL CHAINSAW-WIELDING SKELETON, takes no hostages, and he's out for blood!!! He will continue chasing people until fought, and anything goes with this foe. While dreamotion attacks will work, using the items given by the old lady in the doors will inflict greater damage. Anyone who is "killed" by Steve will be knocked out of the Labyrinth unharmed.


D. Grand High Viscount of Candy Corn. On the other end of giant "horrors" is a giant golem made of candy corn with a large top hat that may appear out of one of the doors. Its main attack, besides trying to punch and pummel, is spewing sticky candy goop that will trap anyone caught in it. It'll wear off, but until then, any caught in it will at first feel very energetic and attack more quickly before becoming sluggish and unable to do much, as if they suffered an extreme sugar crash.

[He can't say much either way on superhero, but he can agree that the idea of clunking around a crowded festival in this in a suit of armor would be nothing but a bad time. Not the time or the place for that.

Either way, what Link ended up with is much more casual than the glittery unicorn helmet Revali got stuck with. How unfair. But--! He has an idea how he can fix this.]

Looking at it, I'm sure this helmet would easily fit over your costume. In the spirit of the festival, of course, why don't you just wear both?

As for the current Azem, I'm afraid I don't know them personally, so I'm uncertain how much further information I could provide. I do work alongside the woman who previously held that seat however, if hearing a bit about her would be of interest to you?

[At least she seems to know what she's doing as far as the best way to sit and make this easier on the both of them. It's not often--nearly never, in fact--that he bothers to help fly others around, but given the alternative as he sees it... Well, momentarily lowering himself to this level is preferable.

When Zelda gives her name, though, he almost manages a double take, hindered only by the fact that it's rather difficult to pull that off mid-air, when the person you're trying to get a clearer look at is on your back. Multiple Links, now multiple Zeldas, what is it with Hylians and these shared names? He'll have to remember to ask later.]

First: let's get one thing right, I'm not some winged mount to be ridden around. Horses are for riding, not Rito.

[But if she wants down, he's not going to prolong their time in the air. And, he supposes, she did say thank you. So after saying his piece, without much of a warning, Revali dives, plunging toward the runaway thief.]

When I refer to the star I mean my world, Etheirys, not its sun or any of the other, more distant ones. Etheirys is surrounded by circulating currents of aether, and my own people also hold vast amounts of it within ourselves. This makes it extremely difficult for us to access Dynamis, as it- while it is far more plentiful than aether in the universe as a whole- is much weaker on the scale at which we experience life.

To put it in the simplest of terms, however, Dynamis is a type of energy influenced by the emotions of those within its reach, and can intern influence the physical world in various ways. In fact its existence was found to be fact rather than theory due to the accidental creation of Elpis flowers; named after the facility where they were first created. They change color in response to the prevailing emotional state surrounding them as a result of Dynamis.

[And Iris happily follows him. She uses the time to think over just how exactly she should surprise her totally best friend. Should she use a smoke grenade for an entrance? Or would that be too obvious? Did she even have any when she showed up here?

These thoughts are quickly squashed by the scream.]

[She runs in the direction he'd started taking, only pausing if she managed to get to any turns before he does. Iris finally stops when she can spot Gina struggling in the dead end.]

Oh dear! What's happened, Ginny?!

[She barrels toward Gina immediately, avoiding whatever's got her stuck until she can figure out what's going on.]

[Flattery, as it turns out, truly does get you... well, not everywhere, but it helps make Revali less abrasive. As general a compliment from a stranger may be, of course.]

Getting a clear view is never a problem, even with a weapon this small.

[Has he tried it? Not at all. But he's nothing if not confident. If he can hit multiple targets with three arrows at once, he can aim with a gun no problem, he thinks.

Revali twists the gun a bit to get a clearer look at the trigger. While it does look as if he can fit a finger in there, he's not sure how comfortable it would be. Is it worth risking actually ruffling a feather to give it a shot? He's still deciding.]

Will it cease to function if we remove this ring?

"...And I thought being turned into a toy was humiliating."

"I still don't understand the appeal of these ridiculous costumes, but at least the last one was respectable."

More importantly, it didn't make her think of Nanashi. Well. Mostly. Except their first meeting, when he copied the mask to demonstrate Dreamotion-

"So what are you meant to be dressed as?"

[They can have both!

She's likely to get a bit more nervous as Yato holds her hands - to him they feel a touch on the cold side, so he starts gently rubbing over them. It's an act that also works to calm his own nerves. What if he'd lost Hiyori in this dream world? What if she'd gotten hurt because of his recklessness and it had an affect on her sleeping body? He doesn't want to find out.]

[Turning back to their goal, he switches to simply holding one of her hands, half tugging her along.]

What can I say, you're fun! [At least they're old ones??

Once they're at the drinks booth, he peruses the menu and glances at her.]

Whatcha want? Pumpkin spice latte? Apple cider? Tea?

It's all in the past now. I prefer not to linger on such things if it is avoidable. That said, you and I had a truce of sorts in your previous visit here. I will act if you step out of line as necessary, but I also prefer not to tiptoe around each other. We're likely to run into each other every now and then, after all.

[They even had some normal conversations, believe it or not. Though, those were few and far in between.]

Well, it's not surprising you wouldn't know. It was a recent discovery before returning here from the time I remember. The long and short of it is that it is another source of energy, much like aether. Though, unlike aether, it is dictated by intense emotions over anything else. Much like dreamotion. But thankfully for us, it doesn't have the same side affects as it had back home.

Dreamotion is still a very important thing to learn how to harness, though.

Think of it as being similar to a familiar. Only mirrists can create them, and in their small forms they have hair colored much like yours, hence why I assumed. But they also have wings, which you lack.

The question makes him blink, and he lets his gaze fall to the trigger guard. Right, that might be a problem...it briefly crossed his mind, but wasn't too sure about voicing it without confirmation. Metal fingers rub at his chin, thinking for a moment- ]

Well...it's mainly there to prevent accidental firing, but I suppose these are just toys, so there's less risk involved than with the real thing.

[ But that sure is just. One big piece of plastic. Hmmm. A brief pause, then Aglovan reaches down to dig in one of the pouches at his waist for one of many tools. ]

If you'd like, I can probably take it off!

[ Will the hosts have something to say about it? Maybe, but that's a problem for the Aglovan of later. Guns now, guns only. ]

[Not that Rufus has met any actual birds, magical creatures or not, to begin with since he had lived most of his life in a city of steel.

But after working with him in the city, Rufus does have to admit that Revali isn't without his talents.]

I never had a chance to try it myself- where I'm from was a hobby of bored rich people with poor judgment thinking it was a fun activity to do while day drinking.

Whatever Sandalphon prepared himself for (up to and including the imminent retaliation from terrible misbehaving skeletons) perhaps it's fitting that what takes him more by surprise isn't the skeletons but rather the sudden grasp of her hand taking his for their hurried escape. The sound of skeleton bones only seems to get louder, amplified in numbers, an undeniable call to arms and warning alarm at once. ]

[ A baffled noise is all that he manages to get out before there's little other opportunity to say more, be it objection or otherwise, the fresh threat of more skeletons after them meaning the decision is moot. He manages to keep his stumbling to only a few initial steps, and rights himself enough to follow apace with her and the other companion, a look back at the pursuers with an irritated noise at the back of his throat. Fine. ]

Very well, just keep running onward that way! I'll look out behind us.

[ Luckily he's not particularly thrown off by the scary ghoulish faces and the sudden booming sounds they produce in their pursuit. So he'll trust the way forward to Zelda for now and watch for how fast the skeletons manage to gain on them as they run in case he needs to push them back. ]

[ Frowns, hesitating for a moment upon feeling the resistance but once it gives way and he can lower him again to solid ground, there's relief but uhhh a new and different problem presents itself.

Not just the fact that Senku continues to sleep, of course, but also...

He very slowly draws his hand away from Senku's shoulder again, watching for any signs that he'll start levitating once more without the contact from Sandalphon to actually hold him down. Please let things here be not ridiculous for once, he thinks. ]

[ The idea itself is a fine enough one that he's willing to go along with, even if he happened to feel any strong uncertainties of this young girl. Stranger or not though, he doesn't - even if he can't well read her, he opts to provide her with the basics of what he does know at least so they can go from there. Something he himself just recently learned, in fact. ]

It may not be a matter of wounds we can see. If these are anything like the other... blobs that have appeared around this place before, whatever effect they inflict I imagine will have to do with people's behaviors first.

By being too close to some, one could become irritated, fester negativity. [ For example. None of which he notices in either of them standing around this one so far, so that seems out - and considering the amount of struggling it's still doing, perhaps in search of a "target"? Hmm. ]

This one might need something more to achieve it's purpose.

[Don't perceive him. Weirdly, the fluffy earband actually seems to be reacting to his reactions, turned back slightly with... whatever nonsense he's feeling at the moment. Shame, perhaps?]

This is the work of some magical... fae creature.

[He half-mutters his response, enunciated clearly enough to hear but lacking his usual authority. Good excuse. Perhaps strangely, though, his tone doesn't seem to imply any doubt about fae creatures themselves. If his waking self could see how far he's fallen...]

[ She almost scoffs at his statement. It seems like him to say something like that, even now. She might not know him on a personal level, but she has her own assessment. As long as he's not putting anyone in danger, she won't have to be so harsh. ]

[ There's some seriousness to her sarcasm, but it means all the same. A little bite but not much to start a fight. For that statement, her eyes narrowed just a smidge. As if Alisaie wanted to be running around in a blue dress. He's right about one thing, it's complicated to move around in general. She rather takes the blasted thing off if she could. Alas, tonight won't be the night for that. ]

Hardly. I am not the type to be some kind of damsel in distress. Some of the denizens here tend to not take 'no' for an answer when it comes to looking the part for festivities. You'll best be expecting them to play such pranks.

They are around and they certainly will find you eventually. Given your track record, I can't imagine providing pleasantries.

Najaran had no clue what these costumes were for, and kept turning them over in her hands. Especially the fake elf ears she had been handed. "Are these.. for some sort of mission?"

I.D. Apples

Najaran had, of course, been trying to pack up a bunch of apples into her lunchboxes. For her friends and for later. But she had started eating them as she went and now...

Now she was floating above a mess of spilled slices of caramel apples and over turned lunchboxes, trying desperately to find something to grab onto, to pull herself back down.

She would have summoned her Card to help, but was afraid that they were too big and someone might get hurt.

I.D. Brooms

"WHEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEEE!"

Well, at least someone was having fun when the brooms escaped the Carousel. A large rideable flying dinosaur/dragon hybrid was doing barrel rolls around her.

Najaran had been examining the mirrors, trailing her finger across them as she got lost over and over again. Then she found one mirror that she was sure she hadn't seen before. Because it didn't seem to be a mirror. More like a doorway. But what it was a doorway too seemed... impossible.

Inside a Young elfin woman was offering her hand to Najaran. "Come, Mistral... we're all waiting for you."

Behind her were a number of other people, waiting and beckoning. one group was surrounded by Woodfolk and smiling brightly. And then there was an old man with sealed eyes. He was holding out a man headed cane to her. "You left Goligan behind, Najaran? Really? Perhaps you need more training.

And with them were friends she had met in her time on the Train. Duo Maxell, both of him. Esteban. Leia Organa, the closest thing she ever had to a mom. Mina the Hedgehog. So many many people.

All alive. All okay.

"Hey, guess what," the blond human woman with the ponytail from the first group called. "We were able to figure out how to double back, saved those people from the world eaters."

"Yes," the elf said. "And they are waiting as well." Her eyes filled. "You truly are the Mistral of legend.. and my friend."

Overjoyed, Najaran rushed in as the crowd behind the elf seemed to grow and grow. She threw herself at these people and was passed around for hugs, clinging to the man headed cane from hug to hug as soon as she got to him, her own eyes running with tears of joy.


II. Creatures

Najaran will, because she is Najaran, try to befriend each of the monsters she encounters. But when attacked, she fights back. And it is almost scary how easily she handles most of them. Any candy corn thrown at her, she eats. And her own Creatures make short work of most of the creatures that attack her.

But after a while, she's out of Cards that she can use in such close quarters that weren't exhausted. All except one. And she was cornered by a large quantity of Skeletons. The spiders had learned to avoid her at least.

But that one Card... She held it as she backed up further... "I'm not supposed to use my spells... so maybe you can come back after everyone's rested...?"

II.D.Candy Corn Golom

After trying to befriend the creature, and discovering she couldn't....

Najaran had a special way to fight this foe; and one might come across her as she was finished off eating the last little bit of it, candy corn all over her face, along with a contented smile...
