Oh, this is the FIGHT screen! Every monster can do this. They usually do so in order to send each other bullet patterns if they feel like only talking isn't enough.

The FIGHT button should be self-explanatory, as should the ITEM button. ACTing allows you to perform various actions to try to allow yourself to SPARE the person you're up against. And finally, MERCY allows you to either SPARE or RUN away from the encounter.
You can tell a monster wants to be SPARED by the color of their name. Usually, it will turn yellow, buuuut... I was thinking it might be time for a little fashion change. What do you think? A pink name or a green name?
