However, they'd be extremely useful in tearing through thick vegetation along with making it difficult for a predator to make an easy kill.

For example, the long neck should be a vulnerable spot. A predator would normally just need to lock its jaws around the neck until it suffocated, but blades here create a significant risk to the predator attempting that.
