Get the Fish! [Open]
Who: Ryu and Everyone!
Which: Open log!
Where: Near the theater house and all along the river!
What: Ryu wants to share his birthday with everyone. This means sharing his love of fishing with everyone. Come and join!
Warnings: There should be none, if no one makes trouble.
Welcome to the
Dragon Fish Fest!
In celebration of Ryu's birthday (or 'birthday') there's a commotion by the river. Near the theater house there's a tent set up to keep pollen away as well as provide shade for anyone who needs it. There's a hand-painted sign that explains the process.

🎣 I - The Tent
The tent has a few chairs set up along with a small plastic table. There's a trophy on top of the table, along with some fishing lures set out in front of it. There's a few spare fishing rods as well as a bucket of worms wriggling around and... possibly being gross. There's a lid on the bucket, but occasionally a brave worm will make it out...
Get ready and mingle, ask questions of the people gathered around, or start admiring the prizes - the day is young and it looks like a lovely time ahead of you all, so start getting ready! And check your supplies - it wouldn't do to get caught out without everything you need!

🎣 II - The River
The river is teeming with fish - it's not exactly packed scale to scale with them, but with a little patience, skill, and luck most kinds of freshwater fish from all kinds of worlds can be found. From Hylian Loach to Martian Squid, get out there and find whatever weird kinds of fish your hearts desire. (Just be reasonable about it, for the sake of your fishing rods if nothing else!)
Of course, things are known to happen - sometimes a fish will steal your bait. Sometimes a fish might leap out of the water and smack you in the face. Sometimes a fish might... sing to you? It's a dream world, after all. These are dream fish, so who knows what they're going to do?

🎣 III - The Ceremony
Everything has been leading up to this. In the evening, everyone is gathered around to see who the winner is of the biggest fish prize. The runners up are getting some of the fishing lures, but the winner is going to get the trophy. There's a little bit of a commotion from the front though as Ryu seems to be slightly... panicky.
"A-are you sure? Are you really sure that no one else did - um. Okay." He turns to look at the rest of the group and ducks his head. "I... um. I guess - I guess I should announce the winner. I... the winner is... um. The winner is... um... me?" His voice is a little more than a squeak, but... well. Protest if you'd like, but there's definitely a sheet with the fish sizes written down.
[[ooc; This result was chosen by RNG from those signed up on the OOC post! ... On three different dice. I swear they all came up with the same number.]]

🎣 IV - The Feast
The smell of fish wafts from the tent as the evening turns towards night. Fish have been de-boned and skewered, treated with a variety of toppings and spices and lack thereof. A few people seem to have brought other food and drink - Ryu's brought some beef and some mashed potato, which may or may not go with fish depending on your opinion.
The fire's roaring and the insects are buzzing. It's a perfect night to just hang out by the gently flowing river and talk - or get up to shenanigans. The latter is up to you.

Ryu | Breath of Fire IV
Ryu's a little stressed, but he's trying not to let it show. Today's supposed to be a good day for him, right? He's bustling around the tent, trying to get everything ready so that he can go fishing, too. He's moving between rearranging things for the fifth time to checking his supplies for the fourth time to nibbling on a sandwich to -
Eventually he manages to sit down and watches as people trickle in. He's nervous. Should he be nervous? He pretty much put all of this together himself... he wants it to be fun for other people, too. He knows parties are supposed to be about the person having the birthday but -
- no. No thoughts about that sort of thing today. Today's supposed to be fun.
II - The Frog's Song
He's wandered around and checked on people, so he's managed to make sure everyone's okay. Settling down to the side of the river he's taken out his own fishing pole and started humming to himself, flicking the line slightly to the rhythm.
"A baby frog is not a frog, not a frog
It's a tadpole
Tadpole, tadpole
Baby frog is called a ta-d-pole!"
... Maybe it makes more sense in whatever language it is he's actually speaking.
III - Under Pressure
N... no. This wasn't what was supposed to happen. He was supposed to make someone else happy. He was supposed to congratulate someone else. Oh great, now he just feels like a jerk. He looks around at everyone and shakes his head rapidly. "No, I - I um. Who got second place? I can - they can get it. Everyone's been so wonderful to me, I don't need a trophy -"
But would that person feel like he's trying to pity them or something? He's not sure. Uh... uh. He's not sure what to do. He kind of wants to cry right now, but he shouldn't cry at his own birthday party unless it's for a happy reason, right? ... Mm. He's not sure what to do.
IV - Endings and Beginnings
After everything gets all sorted out, Ryu starts helping cook the fish. He's very handy with a knife, having been taught how to clean a fish a long time ago by his friends back in his previous world. He helps dispose of the remains out of sight of the party - he'll move the larger pile later, but at least it's out of the range of the group - and starts cooking the fish. He sits in a chair near the fire, turning the fish on a simple wooden campfire fish grill before taking them over to the main table with the other things people have brought.
It's... nice being out here, in the dark with just the fire and good people. Even if some of them just came for the contest and the food, it's still nice to have people around him. He's glad that he celebrated his birthday like this. If he only gets this one chance... he doesn't want to regret how he spends it.

Yato | Noragami
[Lurking about the awards tent is one god trying to be stealthy (and promptly failing at it) while he messes with... something on the table. Upon closer inspection one will notice that he's not taking anything off, but putting something on: namely some Yatogami propaganda pamphlets, aka advertisements for his shrine nearby along the river.
He's also leaving out handmade omamori talismans bearing his name on them with a sign that says "FREE - TAKE ONE", before sinking down to hide under the table, rubbing his hands together and awaiting any potential customers. Idiot.]
🎣 2. Fishing:
[Throughout the fishing tourney itself Yato walks up and down the river, casting about in search of a good spot. After a while though, his attempts start to seem a bit futile once he's fished up a can, a bicycle, an angry pufferfish, and a particularly sad-looking fish, and finally on this cast, a creepy-looking fish... thing... That starts immediately snapping once it gets close to him, quickly eating up the damn line until it reaches his pole and starts munching on that as well, much Yato's shock and horror.]
HEY!! What the hell--?! Yikes...!
[Even after he drops the pole, the skeleton fish thing just keeps on going, chowing down like there's no tomorrow until it reaches the end and then starts chasing after Yato with its chomping motion, leading the god to turn tail and make a mad dash for the nearest tree which he scrambles up.]
Not fair! This is so not fair--!
🍤 3. The Feast:
[For his contribution to the fish fry, Yato's brought along not just plenty of beer, but some quality saké as well, which he's happily passing around to anyone old enough to drink. He's also set up his own little cooking station, where he's taken to making beer-battered fish and shrimp from what little bit of success he had earlier in the day.
He's also got that skeleton fish in a bucket beside him and has taken to feeding it bits of cooked batter. Guess it's a pet now??]

Joshua Rosfield | Final Fantasy XVI
[Joshua arrives right on time, careful not to arrive early enough that he’d catch Ryu off guard, but with time to spare a helping hand if needed. He has his brand-new fishing rod in tow, a deep woven basket, and a small gift that he places on a nearby table. He’s dutifully checking and preparing his gear and it’s obvious that he has every intent on treating the competition seriously, but thankfully not to the point of overbearing competition.]
[He’s happy to make small talk with whoever else is trickling in, all smiles and congeniality.]
IV. Performing feats for the feast
[That roaring fire is the contribution of yours truly, the local wielder of fire magicks, His Grace, Joshua Rosfield. If you need a fire for your fish, let him know and he’ll conjure one up posthaste. Alternatively, if you need some healing for a fish-related mishap, he’ll patch you up.]
[Otherwise, Joshua can be found snacking on a couple of contenders from his own catch. The rest he’s placed between some thin towels in his basket.]
There, that should be enough for them.

Ira | Kingdom Hearts
[Ira has found a quiet space a little bit down river. Fishing is something of a solitary sport after all. He'll be able to socialize later. For now, he needs to focus.
And he does, at first. The fish are coming quickly and it doesn't take long to have a few catches swimming in his bucket. But as the day continues on, and the sun shines, it's easy for attention to wane. And drift.
And maybe Ira is nodding off a bit, when he should be paying attention, because his rod is starting to bend dangerously.]
[Feasting]
[Ira joins the party with a good energy, and a good humour. And maybe he looks a little bit damp and bedraggled but there's no need to question why that is. He's just here to celebrate his friend and enjoy some of the fish that has been caught.
Though, he's staring at his catches with a small degree of concern.]
I suppose it has been a while, and I can't quite remember how to...prepare one...

Helga Pataki | Hey Arnold! (coming in late with Starbucks)
Helga, being the social butterfly that she is, zipped out of the tent as soon as she gathered the gear she wanted and headed for the bank. Her setup is pretty modest - a bucket of bait plus a standard rod and hook - but the catches certainly aren't. She casts in the direction of what looks like a really shiny fish, but it's scared away by something more erratic. So she tries another part of the river, aiming for a juicy yellow thing, but its little green friend intercepts the catch. She's about to give up when she's suddenly tugged halfway into the water by some aggressive abomination, which finally breaks her composure.
"Come here, you tadpole, or I'll bite your head off!"
The Feast
Her final catch leaves little to be desired... but aside from one freakout at the winner? She's surprisingly chill. Perhaps because the winner was at least celebrating his birthday, or because this is the first bout of fun she's had in months. Whatever it is, she looks pensive when she collects her cooked fish and settles next to the fire. When there's company nearby, she even goes so far as to speak up.
"Well, the selection's better than my last contest."
