[The dogs are indeed wary and confused when they return, but when Eustace shows them that he's no longer affected by the spell and that he's all right, they end up whining and shuffle around their legs. Only after they're calmed down does Eustace look around to see if there's some kind of shovel, and with some vague memories that linger, he finds a tool shed hidden within the back of the tree, proof that at least in their original world they were able to leave safely. It just made the tragedy of the original guardian worse.
But all the more reason to give him a proper burial. With Tifa's assistance, they pick a spot where the sunlight passes through the leaves, and soon the remains are transferred to the new grave. Some rocks and flowers are set up as a makeshift headstone, Eustace promising to prepare a proper one. And when he steps back, a gust of wind blows through the leaves, carrying a strange feeling of gratitude. If the wind had a voice, he would swear it was giving its thanks, and he can only wonder if it's from the tree or the guardian's spirit that may have remained.
Now everything is finally settled, and they return to the tree to figure out how to help the dogs next. They'll eventually be visited by a familiar owl, but before that Eustace occasionally glances over at Tifa, noting how strangely determined she is in helping him. Perhaps it's because they just went through a very arduous ordeal, but... He finds himself more appreciative and grateful for her presence, and a little bit of that distance closes between them.]
