In the first days of March, there comes a sudden shift in the air around the jungle. A lone sylvari—the lone sylvari—on the brink of noctaeredom, has wandered into the deepest thickets in hopes of keeping the worst at bay.

But it does not.

There is a burst; the ground and brush and trees creak and groan as thorned vines, laced with potent nightmare energy, whip out from the depths to choke the life from the jungle. They wrap around the trees, spear the wildlife, cause a nightmarish rot to seep into the ground. Once-vibrant greens dull, the foliage grows brittle. The air feels just as dead as the jungle now looks.

Slowly, the vines spread outward, ever towards the threshold of the jungle, looking to consume anything and everything in their path. Hopefully, they do not reach Reverein…

This is the Noctaere Trahearne player plot! Basic info on the event can be found here, and please direct any questions you might have here! Enjoy the tangled depths!

STROKE OF MIDNIGHT

Although the Masquerade is being held on the night of the Fourteenth, some new problems arise in the days after. This log is split into two sections, the Masquerade and Around Town. Everyone is free to participate in either or both, whichever catches your interest.

More details on everything can be found here and here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here with arrival details here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in February and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of February 14 through 28. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count February as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.

IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.

TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Wednesday, February 22nd and Applications will open on March 1. Our next cycle after won't be until JULY.

SAVING OZ

After a month of increasingly windy weather, it all comes to a head when a giant book appears right above the town of Reverein. It opens its pages facing the town and a large tornado emerges, descending down to cover the entire town. Miraculously, no buildings are destroyed, but the entire population is sucked up into the air and into the pages of the book. It's a wild, twisting ride until everyone crash lands into a strange city all in emerald green. The tapirs make their usual rare appearance and look around before gasping, "Oh! It's the Emerald City from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! Looks like a mess though… And so do you!"

As pointed out, everyone will find themselves dressed or transformed into some semblance of one of the five main characters: Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman (Tinman), and the Cowardly Lion. They could be wearing authentic costumes, have an almost complete appearance change, partial transformation, and anywhere in-between. While they are mostly stuck in whichever "role" they've been initially cast in, they can temporarily change if a different role would work better. They gain additional abilities fitting of the character, such as the Scarecrow unable to bleed as they are now made of straw, the Tinman always wearing or made of some kind of metallic armor, the Lion have wind blasting roars and the strength of a real lion, Toto able to become a real dog, and Dorothy has their charisma stat shot up through the roof. Everyone will be able to use their dreamotion and original abilities as well, so they can be even more creative. While there are no complete personality changes, some may feel some "adjustments" to fit their role at times. Some roles will be more effective for certain tasks and objectives, and they will receive additional buff bonuses to help clear it.

With the help of local citizens who have formed their own rebel force, everyone must now help push back the nightmare force that has taken over this story and lure out the mysterious new "Wizard" that is the source of all this chaos. If they can fill a giant emerald with positive dreams and launch it at the "Wizard," then it'll be a mission success.

SUMMER BEACH FUN

After a week of frenzy as everyone in town prepared for the weekend summer beach fun bash, the beach is now teeming with activity as everyone shouts in joy at seeing the beautiful white sands and clear waters. Blankets are out, tents erected, music and refreshments out on covered tables, and spirits are high as everyone has fun enjoying the new place. With the beach surrounded by jungle forests, it feels as if they stepped onto a tropical island getaway. And when night falls, it will be a time to relax and just enjoy the night sky, now graced with the new two moons.

Note: This log is open to everyone and doubles as a "Character Intro" for new characters who were just accepted this round. As a reminder, new characters are welcome to carry over their TDM as forward dated to the earlier days of July so that they're not really "new" if players wish to do so! MOON'S HAUNTED

Elimei, the female winged kirin twin from the Tree of Stories, was suddenly taken by a large, gruesome figure wielding a butcher's knife with a bear at its side. They appeared from a black portal and everyone in the room at the time was unable to move due to a sudden increase in gravity and heavy weight of nightmare energy. The figures disappeared into the black portal leaving behind no trace—except Elimei's feathers tinged with nightmare energy. Using Elimei's feather, researchers in the Observatory were able to pinpoint her location within a foreign moon. By this time, the moon mirror created by the fae has collected into its glass the stories of various moons gathered by Madhuri. Powered by this enchanted mirror and with dreamotion energy, they are able to create a dreamscape-like gateway to this foreign moon.

Unfortunately the power was so great it acted like a dreamshift and sent in everyone. Now everyone finds themselves on the surface of this strange moon, but fortunately they have allies in the form of lunar wolves to help guide them. To help combat against the noctasers, which are an evolved form of Erasers that have consumed great amount of nightmare energy, the special potions that were created back from Halloween and are effective against Erasers will be available. They will work in conjunction with dreamotion energy and other items useful against nightmare energy; perhaps a new solution can be made.

PLAYER PLOT: DREAMMARE CASTLE

The result of Phantom’s alternate personality taking over and fleeing into the Wildlands, Dreammare Castle is situated on a ruined fort near the mountains and reconstructed using dreamotion energy. The Castle resembles Victorian architecture from a distance, furnished richly in black and red, and the doors are left wide open for visitors to enter.

The interior of the castle is an ever-changing labyrinth, procedurally generated as one wanders inside its halls. No two rooms are the same, and it is impossible to backtrack within the castle, as doorways completely vanish after being used. If you die inside Dreammare Castle, you will wake up at the entrance completely unharmed – fortunate, because many things inside the castle can and will try to kill you. While fighting in Dreammare Castle, dreamotion abilities are greatly amplified. Use this to your advantage!

There are many possibilities that can be encountered inside the castle. Some of the large rooms serve as stages where ‘scenes’ play out. These are excerpts from one of the Scarlet Troupe’s plays, where NPCs (or PCs) who have been kidnapped from Reverein will be brainwashed into acting out some of the plays’ leading roles. In order to free these people from mind control, the scene will need to be acted out… or you can kill them, upon which they will wake up at the entrance of Dreammare Castle without any memories of what happened while they were brainwashed. After clearing a scene room, characters will be sent back to the entrance of Dreammare Castle. They can totally go back in again if they want.

SURPRISE EGGS

A few days after the Tree of Stories has been established, there's a startling announcement that is spread throughout town: there are eggs in the room at the top of the tree! Two large eggs about a foot and a half long and half as wide can be found nestled in a nest. The owls have no idea what kind they are, where they came from, or how they got there and can only assume it must have appeared along with the tree. But the eggs are clearly unusual as they can move and jiggle about, often responding to what's going on around them. A lot of extra hands will be needed to ensure the eggs are protected and hatched safely.

As a reminder, new characters are welcome to use their TDM threads and consider April as their first month in Song so that they're not really "new" if players wish to do so! Starting fresh is also acceptable.

As you can see, I cannot, in good faith, recommend Destiny's Pledge by Snargle Goldclaw as informative reading on my homeworld of Tyria. I thought it might offer an in-depth view on the most well-known adventuring guild in the modern day, Destiny's Edge, but it instead only offers bastardized versions of important political and social figures in less-than-savory situations. It is not even an accurate representation, in the slightest, of the checkered history between human and charr. To say I am thoroughly disappointed that this is what represents my world here in Reverein is an understatement.

This has made me cautious. As much as I would like to learn more about the realms from which Reverein's present inhabitants hail, I am wary of having my initial impressions colored by inaccuracies penned by authors with a blatant disregard for reality. I would hate to cause any of you any degree of disrespect by choosing anything that would be equivalent to the atrocious Destiny's Pledge, so I now ask if you have any particular recommendations of works from your realm that are available in the bookstore and that you feel are considered quintessential readings for your culture.

That said, I must also ask: The bookstore only seems to offer works of fiction - that is, in Tyria's case - and while fiction can act as a valuable insight into the attitudes and cultures of a specific time and place, it is in no way unbiased or comprehensive. Is there any way to find well-known works of non-fiction from your realms, or perhaps even a written record of Reverein's short history?

Given how much time has passed and the increased number of incidents, I would like to gather information from those who have experienced turning into noctaere first hand, witnessed, or had to handle someone who changed. This is more for personal reference but something more public could be compiled for others to use.

The main questions I have are:

When did you first start noticing the effects from overabundance in nightmare energy?
Can you recall the events that led up to the change? Frequent nightmares? A negative trigger?
Did the change happen quickly or did it take some time?
At any point do you think you could have stopped and reversed the effects? If you did try, were you successful in any way?
Did the incident occur while dreamwalking or while awake?
How long did you remain as a noctaere?
What changes did you undergo?
Were you able to retain any sense of control or was it completely lost?
What did it take for you to return to normal?
What, if any, kind of effects did you experience afterwards?
After the first experience, do you believe you can better prepare or safeguard yourself from another? This assumes a natural progression and not a forced change.

I realize some of these questions may be personal so those who respond can keep more private details vague. Anonymous accounts or privately filtered threads are also acceptable.

Accounts from those who dealt with someone who has turned noctaere will also be appreciated, particularly the methods used to help subdue and help them return to normal.
