STROKE OF MIDNIGHT
Although the Masquerade is being held on the night of the Fourteenth, some new problems arise in the days after. This log is split into two sections, the Masquerade and Around Town. Everyone is free to participate in either or both, whichever catches your interest.
More details on everything can be found here and here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here with arrival details here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in February and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of February 14 through 28. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count February as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Wednesday, February 22nd and Applications will open on March 1. Our next cycle after won't be until JULY.

I. MASQUERADE

It's time for the masquerade and the carriages will start arriving before sunset. Upon arrival, everyone who leaves the carriage (or mercilessly spat out if they try to resist) will be greeted by fairy godmothers with an eye for the most dramatic and extravagant fashion. It's a masquerade, after all! For those who already arrive with their outfits, the fairy godmothers may add a little embellishment here and or just change it completely if they think it could look better. For those who did not, they will create a whole new outfit that would fit the wearer perfectly—with magic of course. They will also create the masks and half of the glass slipper brooch that everyone will wear. The masks are enchanted so that regardless of obvious personality or physical traits, they are somehow unrecognizable at first. While it is possible to figure it out through interaction, or if it's someone they already know well, it's more likely they need to reveal their identity first. These outfits can be kept even after the masquerade is over.
A. Get in the Carriage. As the pegasus drawn carriages begin to arrive to transport those who have decided to attend the masquerade, there is some commotion from others. The pair of coach mice—who are only about four feet tall—can be found smiling and cheerily squeaking about the masquerade as they grab and literally throw protesting individuals into the carriage, whereupon the door will immediately shut behind them. Ho ho ho, it'll be such a grand time! Will anyone try to help the poor soul? Or perhaps help the mice? Maybe you're a struggling victim instead. Should anyone want to try and drive the carriage, they might have a chance…but good luck having the pegasi listen to them. Eventually the carriage will land and take them to the front of the castle where the masquerade is hosted.

D. Royal Banquet. There are numerous tables one can use and be served an assortment of foods. In fact, one could make special requests and somehow the dragons serving will be able to make it, or at least as close as possible. One just has to imprint the idea of the dish onto a special card that the chefs will use to recreate it. There are also two bowls filled with special tear drop chocolates, one with only white, pink, and red, and the other filled with the other colors. The "game" is to randomly choose one from each bowl and share a kiss depending on what is picked.

- Extravagant mazes that one could easily get lost in are common, but what's special about these gardens is that the flowers will emit a soft, sweet scent that will feel as if they are walking through a dream. In fact, the section they are going through will begin to change to look like a place from their world and must now find their way out. When this change happens, only those who are in the area will be affected and no one else can enter the area until the main person affected gets out. Those inside can help, and there are no threats—it's all in simple fun…unless the place evokes certain memories and emotions for the person. Might not be as fun for them, then.
- A crystal greenhouse where the temperature is perfectly warm (or cold!) and houses various different flowers. Here some may recognize flowers from their world, the scents also creating nostalgia. There are instructions left that indicate anyone can try to help grow the flowers. The key ingredient will be dreamotion energy, and should they succeed in creating a blossom, a small marble containing a symbol of their home. There are also special daisies that can be used to play the "they love me they love me not" game. If the last petal is "they love me," then become extra flirty and clingy. If it's "love me not," they become angry, jealous, and possessive. The effects only last for a short time…unless they keep plucking flowers.
- The white fountain in the center of the gardens will have a bit of a musical playful side. It will splash colorful water at any who pass by, chime-like notes playing out as it does. But if one were to drop a flower that has absorbed positive dreamotion into its water, it will calm and let people sit to look and relax. There is also a strange frog wearing a crown that claims to be a prince. For those who believe its words that a kiss will free him from the curse, they will be sorely disappointed as nothing happens and the frog just laughs and hops away.
II. AROUND TOWN

- Insightful Mockingbirds. Special mockingbirds are flying around and perch on random shoulders. They have the ability to "read" a person's thoughts and repeat them out loud. Without warning. Hope there aren't any secrets because that bird is going to make it public, especially if it's an observation or thought—good or bad—about another person. Good luck shooing it away, too—it'll stick around for a while because it might enjoy sowing this bit of chaos.
- Arrow Delivery. The group from last year have decided to use their prank arrows for good and start a business in delivering special Valentine's messages via arrow. A "shot to the heart" in the less literal sense this time! While some of their archers are skilled, others are…less so. Some are hitting a bit too close to comfort or way off the mark. Some messages are going to the wrong person entirely. Help avoid, retrieve, or even deliver these messages around town.
C. Candy Kisses. A special assortment of flat bottomed, tear shaped chocolates are currently selling like hotcakes and can be found practically everywhere. Their main selling point is they come in different colors and each color has a special effect that will make the eater want to kiss the person near them in a certain way (see chart). Some people are deliberately swapping the wrappers around, so be careful!

Shionne Vymer Imeris Daymore | Tales of Arise | TDM
Shionne is not… Entirely sure how she got here. Or why she’s wearing a very different dress from her usual attire; her hand keeps going up to the new mask as well, but she decides against messing with it. This is a massive improvement from being forced into a black dress… And weirdly feels like the right outfit for her.
She’s doing a dance of her own right now; it’s called weaving carefully between the crowds and people, and not touching ANYONE. She’s doing an admirable job…
Though she also can’t help but look and feel a little out of place, with watching the dance floor and the people on it. NO, she is not swaying to the music! Truly. And she’s also not feeling left out of the occasion. She’s just fine here on the sidelines, watching, considering that broach she’s picked up… And trying really hard not to drift into anyone.
When she almost does, Shionne pulls up with a sharp hiss, all but skidding on the floor in her efforts to not make contact.
“WatchoutsorryIdon’twanttotouchyou.” She still manages to get a breath, and cram all that into one second of speech.
B. Banquet
Right now Shionne has one mission: Sample. ALL. Of the food. It’s honestly impressive how much she’s inhaling, but also how crumbs and stains are nonexistent. She’s working her way through the tables and ordering something from each of them… Right up until she gets to those chocolates, and hears the rules behind them. Then it’s time to frown at those chocolates like they’re a slap in the face, and Shionne gives them a wide berth. Just as well that her plate is already piled high with every other food imaginable… Even if she’s having a hard time seeing around it, as she makes her way to another table.
“Please don’t bump into anyone on the way.” She says, half to herself and half out loud.
C. Garden
Eventually, Shionne makes her way to the gardens; everyone needs a breath of fresh air… Though she’s a little disconcerted by how sweet that air is, almost intoxicatingly so. It’s an easy thing to get lost in the mazes.
It’s even easier for those mazes to start to twist around her, and bring to mind a place that Shionne would sooner not dwell on. She’s… Not going to panic. Or at least she’s TRYING not to panic. She’s fine. She’ll be fine.
“...Not alone. We’ve been through this. I can get out of here.”
It’s an improvement from the last time she was at this place, at least. Much as Shionne is fighting a losing battle with not freaking out.
D. WILDCARD
COME AT ME. Will match tag styles, no worries.
((OOC: Quick note, Shionne is afflicted with the Curse of Thorns. Still figuring out how it works inside a Dreamscape like this, but generally touching her is a bad idea. Treating people as automatically opting OUT of touching her, but more info and opt-in/out is over here!))
B
Magilou does hear her mumble that, her brow raising slightly, but she doesn't comment on it just yet. Instead, she just looks from her own meager plate towards the grand one of the stranger. While shifting slightly, just enough to get in her way.
"Whoa whoa whoa there, girl. Don't tell me you're planning to pack all that food away and then skip dessert!" She remarks with apparent surprise.
no subject
She doesn't mean to sound that relieved, or hopeful. But her grip on the plate remains firm as ever... And there's this odd look of determination on her face. It means she doesn't boggle over that... very unusual outfit for too long.
"I should have enough room. This is just the second helping; if I skip the third, I'll be ready."
Then more cautiously she adds on,
"...Do you know what dessert is going to be?"
no subject
Magilou's already in awe at the capacity of this woman! Can anyone take in that much food.
"Now I don't knoe desserts may come in the future, but what I do know is that you passed by some perfectly good-looking chocolate right there! You have an appetite for literally everything else, where's your sweet tooth,?"
no subject
Especially considering how sweet they look."I have a sweet tooth." She sounds almost defensive about that. "I just... Overheard how those work. And I'm not interested in touching anyone, or getting into close contact."
To say nothing of k-
K-
Lip contact. No thanks. Sounds incredibly strange when it's applied to Shionne herself.
no subject
Magilou had wondered that. It would be funny if she had found out about the chocolates by accident, but ah well.
"So you're a touchy one when it comes to touching. You must not be a popular dance partner!"
no subject
OH. Yes, someone did indeed hit a mark, judging by how flat Shionne's voice has gone. And she's trying very hard not to make any eye contact with any of the dancers, out on the main floor. In fact, she's making a point to not look at them at all.
"Even if I didn't shock them, I'd end up stepping on their toes. No point in trying."
no subject
"My, my! Shock them, you say? Don't tell me your moves are that surprising!"

A
He'd recognize her anywhere. In that instant he nearly forgets to breathe because he's so entranced by her.
"Shionne!"
He calls out to her but something doesn't seem right. Alphen's wearing some kind of cloak as if he intends to conceal his apperance with it. Something seems terribly wrong with him. There's a dark and omnious presence lurking in his wake. The nightmare energies appear to be affecting him in a very noticeable way.
"Is it really you....?"
no subject
And then there's the fact that he stands out strangely against the crowd. She can't quite put her finger on why just yet; she's still coming to grips with finding him in a crowd of strangers.
"That... The cloak is a different look for you." She manages to say. And she's not entirely sure if it suits him. "I... Are you alright?"
no subject
Alphen's expression turns into a more serious and stern look. He's been through quite a lot. Maybe it seems more like he's got something he desperately wants to hide.
"Can we talk alone? I'd like to spend some time with you."
When he speaks theres tension in his voice. The outfit he's wearing certainly doesn't suit him. Shionne is better dressed for the occassion even if she might not know what's going on just yet.
no subject
"Usually I'm the one who needs some space away from other people." That's still kind of the case, if Shionne is being honest with herself. Beautiful as this place is... There's a lot of people moving about; it's a lucky thing she hasn't had a brush of contact with anyone yet.
"But I'm ready to step outside for little." She scans the crowd as she talks, peering through her mask. There's a hint of balconies past the dancing and the tables. One of them looks deserted enough, long curtains swaying in the night breeze. She points over to it. "What about there? Just need to figure out how to get to it without bumping into anyone."
no subject
Alphen thinks he can understand her better because of it. Sometimes when you're in pain all you want to do is distance yourself. Shionne would always do that before but it's not like she had much of a choice.
"Over there would be great. Shionne, I missed you."
For the first time Alphen looks directly into Shionne's eyes. He's overwhelmed with a strong foreboding emotion of grief and sadness. The dark energies overtake him and he stumbles over in pain.
no subject
She falls into pace behind Alphen, letting him clear the way. For whatever reason, people are giving them a wider berth than usual. On the one hand, Shionne appreciates the breathing room, and not needing to dodge and weave between figures. On the other... She doesn't miss how heavy Alphen's steps are. She only breathes a little more easily when they reach the balcony, even if she has a bunch of questions crowding in her mouth.
"What do you mean... What happened to you?" She's trying not to sound increasingly concerned, but... She wouldn't wish what she'd been through on anyone. Least of all on Alphen.
So when he stumbles over, she's already half stretched a hand out to him without thinking. Shionne has to stop the motion short, before she makes contact with him, because she can't do that any more. It's hard to say which hurts worse; knowing that, or seeing him in pain.
"Hold on. Just hang in there, I'll-" She's still got one thing she can try, however. Shionne stretches her hands over Alphen, trying to call up a healing arte. Something that will sooth whatever is hurting him. Hopefully. Possibly.

B!
"I'm sure there's enough space for all of us here."
no subject
"But I prefer to keep my distance. No point in spilling the food... Or running into anyone and ruining their night. I wouldn't enjoy it either."
no subject
"In a crowd like this, it can be hard to avoid bumping into people here or there. But don't worry, I won't touch you if I can help it."
no subject
"And I'm still getting used to crowds like this. I've read about balls and gatherings before... Even seen a couple from the distance. But I didn't appreciate how tight the space would be."
no subject
Crowds, she can handle okay. Viscint was always bustling, especially after Dohalim changed its policies- now the streets had Renans and Dahnans alike vying for space at all times. It was part of why they'd needed extra guards in the first place. Here, at least, things are a little more relaxed, with a less busy population. This world has dragons instead of zeugles, and interactive dreams instead of a war, so while there are still plenty of... misadventures, the scale is less worrisome by a long shot.
no subject
"I ask because..." Oh, she can't be THAT honest. Not by a long shot. So Shionne settles for a half truth. "I was on a tight schedule before. Had to topple some lords, burn a curse out of my system..."
That's already almost too honest for her liking, and Shionne trails off, giving an awkward shrug.

C
[The small voice of a child pipes up from behind Shionne, looking around the bizarre palace. She had a half-skull mask, adorned in white lilies. She doesn't seem as perturbed, which may only make sense, since she's never seen this place.]
Am I yet again the voyeur of another person's memories? I apologize.
Re: C
[She sounds almost angry about that for a second. Like she was on the verge of forgetting it.]
"...I don't know how I feel about YOU being here though. Whoever you are."
[Sorry. Stress has a way of making her shorter tempered than usual. Doesn't help that Shionne can't decide if she looks like she belongs with this memory, or clashes sharply with it.]
no subject
[The 'sister', in question, appears to be referring to the small red flower she was holding in her hands.]
We were exploring the gardens and the maze. That's all.
no subject
[...You know what? She's had to deal with thorns for so long they're almost like a part of her. That or they have a mind of their own. Speaking of which, she has more important things to focus on than flipflopping about plants treated like people.]
"You should go back to exploring it. And get out of here; not a place for kids."
[...She's trying to look out for this child, at least?]
