DATE AUCTION SPECIAL

The carnival is hosting a special event and everyone is welcome to come and bear witness to the spectacle (and laugh at those who get involved). Hosted by an unknown but friendly troupe of fae, special rides and attractions are available for everyone, even those who are not participating in the auction. So come down and have fun!

Details on everything can be found here. This log occurs ICly on the weekend of August 11-13.

I. CARNIVAL

At any moment at any time inside the carnival people will be handcuffed to another person. If they are with a date or some other person, they will be automatically handcuffed to each other. If they do not have an obvious partner with them, they will be handcuffed randomly. Time to make a new friend! The handcuffs will be released at a random time, with the timer reducing faster if they play games together or develop what the handcuffs deem to be a "friendly atmosphere."

All attractions are open to everyone, including the general public.

A. Auction Stage. Whether willingly or by ~~force~~ persuasion, individuals will find themselves on the stage with a giant sign hanging over their necks and a crowd waiting in front. One by one they are auctioned off, with those in the audience given special crystal hearts that will absorb any and all emotion felt towards the one on stage. The one that burns brightest will be deemed the winner and all will be taken before fresh crystals are handed out for the next person. Who will win that special date~? Includes an exclusive ticket to the Tunnel of Love! FOR THOSE PUTTING THEIR CHARACTERS UP FOR AUCTION! Please use the following code to create a little "ad" for your character. This is the sign they will be wearing so everyone will know about them! Make sure to include a note in your prompt somewhere if you have predetermined winners or not.

B. Tunnel of Love. No special boating skills are needed on the boat ride, and pairs are simply asked to alight and return the boat upon exiting the tunnel. Originally made exclusive for winners of the auction, some random strangers are pushing any pairs or groups who happen to be standing together into empty boats, even making them cut in line by doing so. The inside of the tunnel seems dark and boring inside at first...but it turns out that the inside of the panels that cover the river turn out to be coated in a dark material that reacts to the positive dreamotion of the couple inside. Whatever the mood that surrounds the riders is reflected around them as moving images of nature–butterflies for those flutters of the heart, rushes of water for that wash of emotion, the sun and flowers for positive energies, whatever reflects the mood between the two. Note that negative emotions will not be reflected–only positive emotions will be reinforced. The ride is smooth and the pace leisurely. Enjoy the five-ten minute ride with your partner!

C. Fortune Telling. A round and oddly cute-looking frog sits next to a wooden box with several wooden dowels at the opening. When approached the frog hops up and starts singing a song about how putting a single flower of your choice into the box will then bestow upon you a special fortune just for you. Should you try to place a flower into the box and allow the fairy frog to sing you a special fortune is up to you! Are you seeking your future? Want to find out who will fall in love with you? You can use the results in your own toplevels or other prompts after.

D Around the Carnival. While the auction is the highlight on the grounds, the carnival rides are all in operation and a few have their own unique "bonding" experience, both for friends and loves—or rivals.

🎠 Carousel. The horses on the carousel are all in pairs and the riders of each pair must work together to use their feelings towards each other to keep it moving at a steady pace. Otherwise the horse will either stay frozen in a very uncomfortable position (super high or flat on the ground) or move erratically fast.
🎡 Ferris Wheel. Aah what better ride to have a romantic view than the ferris wheel? Except there are problems. Privacy screens will suddenly fly open at most inopportune times, lights inside will flash sporadically, and the doors will get stuck, forcing the riders to go another turn if they can't get it to open in time.
🎯 Game booths. The traditional game booths can be found all over the carnival: shooting galleries, ball throws, ring toss, etc. But there is one game booth that has heart shaped targets and participants must use a bow to release a suction cup arrow. The arrow is already wobbly with the suction cup at the end, but dreamotion can be used to keep it steady. It will also be needed to propel it forward or it will just drop sadly to the ground. Support from friends and loved ones will also help.
📜 Wishing Well. A specially constructed wishing well that allows anyone to write on a special paper their greatest wish or desire. The paper is then thrown in and either a reasonable representation of the wish will pop out of the well, such as a toy model or picture—or something completely absurd and unrelated, like slime or half-melted candle wax figurines. All covered in glitter.

[ He does not like to be shoved, not at all, especially since he wasn't really considering going on this dumb ride he'd been thinking about something else, but those oh so helpful people shoved him into the car with Mei.

Senku does move to grab onto the back of her shirt and keep her from faceplanting out. ]

[ Hopefully this won't be too terrible for Mei. She told him last time to get away from her and this is not his fault. Once she's settled, he'll sit back with a little sigh.

This is definitely not a date, he's way too old for her. And he's taken, really. All the same though, he won't complain too much about being stuck on a ride against his will. It's not the company that's the problem. ]

[ Nice save! Once she has her balance back, she relaxes with a heavy sigh. ]

Phew... thanks. That was way too close of a call.

[ She sits, looks at her savior, and...

... Hoo boy. This is awkward. ]

... Oh. Um. Hello again.

[ Senku offers a smile that is somewhat apologetic. ]

Hello Mei, how are you?

[ Ah, small talk, the most awkward of things for him. He hates it, but he can manage it for the next ten minutes. Most people would understand that maybe she just lost her temper, he just took her literally. ]

... Better. Way better than... when we last met.

[ With a great big sigh, she straightens up! ]

I am really sorry for what I said last time, and how I treated you. I was... going through some bad thoughts. And when you have bad thoughts in this place... bad magic mojo follows.

... But it's no excuse for how I treated you, especially when you were just trying to help.

[ Yeah she had been having a tough time, and he got that. ]

Oh. I'm glad you're feeling better. [ Is that enough? Probably not. ]

It's alright. You weren't wrong, I didn't know how to help, I was just making it worse. I understand if you don't want me to talk to you anymore.

[ Because he's not very good at it, clearly. Little kids he can handle, by the time they're teenagers he's too lame so he hasn't really faced this much in the village. ]

I should probably apologise for... [ Uh, hang on, was it the fact he wasn't helpful? The fact he kept trying? The fact he was annoying her and didn't pick up on it? ...help... ] for upsetting you. [ There. Blanket statement. Good enough. ]

[ Oh boy, it's going to be a sorry-off between these two. Mei begins to flail her hands. ]

No, no, no! You shouldn't have to feel like you need to apologize! You weren't trying to upset me - you were only trying to help! If I had just stopped and listened to you, I wouldn't have gone all... Noctare Nutty. You didn't do anything wrong, and we can talk forever and ever if you want!

[ Fortunately that's all the apologising Senku can do, it's enough for him. He smiles at Mei and nods his agreement. ]

Alright. Well, I don't know if that's entirely accurate, I might not be the best person to prevent something like that, but all the same, don't worry about it.

[ He's fond of her anyway. ]

Gen would've kept an eye out for you, for me even if you didn't want to talk to me. [ Because they're both caretakers, frankly, and can't leave well enough alone. ]

I managed to walk into one of my own nightmares, so it sounds rough.

[ A deep exhale of relief! Phew! ]

It was pretty bad... the short version is, I turned into a bunch of different powerful animals and wrecked stuff all over. I was even pretty close to hurting people, if my friends hadn't stopped me.

It's a good thing they did then.

[ He would've been useless, fighting and probably negotiating with a teenage girl wasn't in his strengths. ]

Are you feeling better now, at least?

Sort of... I'd been bottling up a lot of stuff, but at the same time, I didn't want to burden anyone with my problems. I felt like I had to deal with it on my own... so... I need to stop doing that.

Which isn't easy, 'cause I've kinda been doing things like that my whole life.

Mm, I'm the worst at offering advice on that point, I tend to keep my feelings to myself as well. I don't find it productive to discuss them.

[ That might make him a little weird, but it's true, isn't it? ]

[ Did he hear a word she said?! ]

[ He did, he definitely heard her. He just believes it won't happen to him. ]

I'm not very emotional to begin with. [ Not quite true, but he definitely gives that impression. ] I suppose if I must I feel rather neutral to be on this ride.

[ Is that really a feeling? ]

Neutral isn't a feeling! Everyone has feelings about everything, even if they're really, really small! I bet you'd rather be here with your boyfriend, for example!

With my boyfriend? [ Senku blinks at the thought. ] Why?

[ Gen is such a lucky guy, really. ]

... Because he's your boyfriend?! And this is a tunnel of love?!

[ Sweet sassy molassy, isn't this guy supposed to be a genius?! ]

Well. It's a tunnel. [ He can confirm that, and he loves Gen, so he understands her thinking. ]

I'm not sure why you think he'd want to go through it. [ He didn't even want to, he was too close and got pushed on. ]
