THIEVERY AHOOF
Throughout the middle of the month, from August 11th through the 25th, a number of thefts are happening around town. It's an ongoing problem despite efforts to stop them and catch the thieves, especially when their actions are even more confusing.
More details on everything can be found here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in August and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of August 11 to 30. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count August as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open August 25 and Applications will open on September 1. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until November.

Oh, this again? Whoever's playing tricks thinks that I don't have enough friends.
[Which... fair enough, she's lost a few recently and has been feeling somewhat down. A bit of new company can't hurt.]
Nice to meet you. I'm Kisara.
no subject
Aerith. This isn't a first for you, then? I saw a lot of handcuffs going around, but at first I thought people might be putting them on themselves— kind of silly, looking back.
[Who would choose that? Well, some people might, but not out in public like this. Probably.]
no subject
[Kisara lifts her shoulders in a shrug. It's not a great chore to be tied to someone if they're pleasant enough, and it's not as if she was headed somewhere important, just exploring. Inconvenient, yes, but so is a lot of things that happen in this world.]
If you don't mind the company, I'm sure we can find something to do until they decide we've had enough of each other.

That's not yours, so give it back!
[ Denzel may not be able to wrestle the faerie for the items, but he's at least slowed it down for the owner to catch up. The kid is digging his heels into the ground and pulling with all his might. ]
no subject
That's right, what he said!
[She is absolutely here for shaming the creature into good behavior! The fairy itself, however, doubles down on its efforts, its wings beating faster to help it gain momentum, and it manages to pull that end of the ribbon free from Denzel's grip. Aerith is quick to swipe for it, but misses, and the fairy darts just out of reach before hovering above them and sticking its tongue out in response.]
Oh, that's just rude.
no subject
The ribbon slips from his fingers and the lady can't reach it before the fairy takes it up higher so neither of them are tall enough. Denzel glares up at it, then turns to look at the lady to whisper quietly. ]
We could always follow it and wait for it to land. Then sneak in to snag it back.
[ It's either that or find someone who can take care of it like Cloud or Tifa. If they're here. ]

hamlet reference
A faun, maybe...? [He folds his arms. He wouldn't know what to call them, but intelligent creatures with hooves aren't new to him.]
My guess is they know to use a forest to their advantage, whatever they are.
[And he's not exactly the best with a sense of direction, either. He's been wandering around for way longer than this should have taken, and it's getting on his nerves...]
yessss
[She tips her head to one side, curious and questioning. She's never imagined something like that being real, but again, reality seems rather loosely defined here— and this world seems to have more than a few things in common with some of the fairy tales and other stories she remembers reading to pass the time when she was younger.]
I think you're definitely right about that part, at least. They seem like they have the advantage here, but tracks can only help us! Unless...
[She frowns minutely, letting out a soft 'hmm.']
They left them behind on purpose to mislead us. They wouldn't go that far, would they?

GREMLIN POWERRRRRR-- i mean, arrival
But the fae are dicks and suddenly her arm tugs back, breaking her stride and with the most attractive of "hrf?!?"s she catches herself, looking back... and then looking at their handcuffed wrists.
Ah. Shit.]
Uh... y-yeah... n-nice to... meet you...
double your gremlin, double your... something
Hey! It's okay.
[She tilts her head slightly, offering a hopeful smile.]
I won't bite, I promise. I'm Aerith.

It was with his own growing curiosity that had lead him to peek at the assortment of different carnival games. He was always in the mood for a little competition, and perhaps venting his stress on a few darts wouldn't hurt... maybe they'd even have a strength contest, or something like that.
However, none of those plans quite came to pass for as his attention was focused on claiming one of the larger prizes in a ball toss, the sound of metal sliding against metal and a sudden chilling sensation against his wrist broke him out of his concentration. Normally he would have sensed something like this quickly, but the fae where magical creatures, and unfortunately for him his SOLDIER senses could only do so much in this dream world. ]
Hey, what gives!? I've had just about enough of this already toโ

Instantly his face pales.
Wait, this couldn't be happening... right? ]

Yep, that's me! You're quick, catching it like that.

And so he's here, a tea in hand, taking in the sights as he lets his thoughts roam. Though they come to a sudden stop when he sees a familiar figure, one he had been content with locking away and setting aside.
He thinks he's imagining things at first. And when he sees her move, definitive proof that it isn't a trick of the light, or that he might be dreaming, he almost drops his tea. ]
—Aerith?
[ It is not a name he has said out loud in a very long time. ]
rules are made to be broken!
She puts a hand up to excuse herself as she ends her brief conversation with the vendor she'd been speaking with, turning towards the voice in question. The person— and it is a person, she's certain— is like no one she's ever seen before now, but the look on his face is undoubtedly one of recognition.
She offers an apologetic but polite smile, folding her hands in front of her.]
I'm sorry— have we met before?
[The question is an earnest one, but she's pretty sure she would remember a plant man.]

It's new to me, too, but it seems to be happening all over the place. Something about wanting people to bond, it seems like?
[That's not so bad— it's probably a good idea to make a couple of friends here while she finds her way.]
I'm Aerith— looks like whoever is running this carnival decided we should be friendly.

Her face, too. He knows her, doesn't he? And yet...he can't put a name to her. He's been gone from this world for four years, after all, and he's still putting the pieces of his memories back together. Still, he looks up at her with surprise and almost-recognition in his expression for those few moments. Once he realizes he's been staring, he clears his throat and nods, getting down to the task at hand.]
... Can you distract him a bit? [He nods at the fairy running the game booth. Is he planning to cheat...listen. I can promise you that the ring will absolutely not be touching his hand when it goes into the booth.]
yesss
Distract him? Sure, I can do that.
[That's definitely well within her skillset! She gives him a wink before handing him the ring and turning to face the fairy, taking a few steps towards the other end of the booth.]
So, about this carnival of yours—
[There she goes, batting her eyes and drawing the fairy into conversation, angling herself so that she's between Link and the fairy's line of sight. Go, Link, go!]

iib!
It... it mighta. It's tough to tell for certain, yeah? I couldn't get a good look at the blasted cove, the way it was runnin' around. But it was like it weren't a person. [She pauses in thought.]
So wot is it then? A... a 'orse-man? [She waves a hand around uncertainly, while trying to prepare herself for this odd adversary.]
no subject
[She wishes she sounded more certain than that, and she lets out a soft hmm as she tries to recall.]
I didn't get a very good look, either, but you're right— it wasn't a person. Well, not human, anyway.
[There are plenty of non-human people in this world, right? That's pretty new for her.]
If we both sort of remember it being a horse-man, we must be on the right track.

And unbeknownst to her, it's about to get even more so. Though, not in the way she's expecting.
She's on her way to the Starflower from the Markets after a quick shopping break when she feels her heart nearly leap up into her throat, the sound of that all-too-familiar voice both like music and like a sudden drum that startles her. There's no way that it can be... can it...? Had the thieves gotten to her somehow too!? She'd go after the thief without a second thought, but first, she has to be sure...
Tifa whirls around taking a wide step forward, andโ]
Aerith!?
[โCRASH! A single misstep on Tifa's part puts her directly into Aerith's path with little time for either woman to readjust, and fruits fly every which way from the bag in her arms.]
YEAH!!
Well. She's had worse.]
Sorry, I was just—
[Wait— that voice, and the sound of her own name—
She looks up to see exactly who it was that she'd quite literally run into, eyes widening, and for just a moment, she forgets her stolen ribbon and the fact that she's on the ground, surrounded by fallen fruit.]
