[Just in the nick of time. Someone to save him from this creepy doll. Venti immediately jumps down from his perch and hides behind the yaksha like his life depends on it.]

Keep that awful mangy thing away from me! Please!

[And the doll starts to float down towards them...]

Keep what away from...

[ Venti is all of the sudden behind Xiao. The Yaksha blinks, a little confused. And yet when he turns... He sees the dragon-like doll floating there. ]

Isn't it just a toy version of your dragon friend?

An ugly doll, while a whimsical creation, bears no resemblance to my friend's visage sensation!

[Seems he's so upset he's dropping rhymes.]

Even so... It is just a doll.

[ He holds out his hands, the doll floating down into it. Resting there. ]

Is it not simple enough to send away.

[No... Don't let it come closer!! Venti shivers and cower behind Xiao some more.]

No... Don't you see? It would be easy to just toss it into the ocean or something!

[ Venti... Your reaction to this is kind of cute. Being so nervous of a plush toy. ]

But this can't possibly hurt you. It feels relatively harmless.

[He's being very dramatic.]

You... Might not understand.

[Venti trembles again and hides his face against the back of Xiao's shoulder.]

That thing. It reminds me of how much I miss him. It scares me.

You're right... Perhaps I don't.

[ Though he is holding onto the stuffed dragon. it isn't going to get any closer to Venti at the current moment. Yet Xiao is... Pondering something. ]

Is it a bad thing to miss someone? If I had other means to remind me of the other Yaksha...

[Venti is still trembling like a leaf behind Xiao. He's not sure why it's scaring him to look at the doll this much. It's terrifying for him.

The plush doll is simply sitting in Xiao's grasp. Plush wings flapping.

And those words... it makes Venti's hands hold Xiao from behind.]

It's never bad to miss someone. To miss them or to miss Dvalin... I would never say that's bad. It's ... It's the heartache I'm scared of.

Heartache...

[ He releases the Dvalin plush creature for a moment and wiggles around. Xiao scoops Venti up into his arms. ]

Isn't that merely proof of how much they have meant to you? Proof of your own fondness and affection?

Ehe?

[Oh, how nice. Is he being scooped up? How bold!! It does help to ease some of Venti's heavy feelings right now. He gently puts his arms around Xiao in return.

Now that the plush is dropped it floats back up to hover over them both.]

Truly, it would! And I would admit that about my dear sweet Dvalin any day of my life. And yet... [He peers up at the doll.] I still feel this uneasiness inside of me. I think the same sort of uneasiness I would feel if you were to leave me behind. Isn't that silly...

[It's just a doll...]

[ Yes, scooping Venti up. It is a bold move, but Venti is very fond of those sorts of things. Maybe it can be something of a distraction, even as Xiao's gaze softens. ]

That uneasiness, as I understand it, isn't a bad thing. I think the part of it that truly makes you feel restless is the fact that this time, unlike others in the past, you cannot run from it. You cannot pretend that it isn't there.

[He's very much fond of sweeping gestures. If they're affectionate, even better.]

Oh, Xiao... You've always had that sharp tongue of yours.

[He rests his cheek on Xiao's shoulder... Part of him doesn't want to talk about the pain. He wants to pretend that it's not there. But when he thinks that the doll floats closer.]

That's not fair at all.

I'm only speaking the truth. Maybe if you've faced it like you've told me to look at my own, your fears wouldn't be following you around right now.

[ They are harsh, but spoken from a good place. Xiao even more his head so he can kiss at Venit's temple. Placating the Archon as best as he knows how. ]

Don't you think it's all right to allow yourself to heal?

[He wants to whine, "do as I say not as I do" but as his gaze catches sight of the floating doll again he finds it hard to say the words. And the little sweet kiss, so gentle, quiet and Xiao-like is hard to argue with.

The truth is, Venti doesn't know when he should try to let go. He's carried the memory of his lost friend for so long. If he lets go... Would the memory of his heart also fade?

"See the world on my behalf, to the heavens may you fly."]

Maybe when all is said and done.

[He knows that's vague... But then he opens his eyes and looks up at his dear yaksha.]

Although, I'm not forgetting that some healing has patched my lonely heart. It's not all running, I promise.

That is not an answer, for there will always be something that "needs done."

[ He brushes noses against one another. It might be a little harsh of him, but at the same time? This comes from a place of concern. A bird cannot fly freely if there are chains that bind it. One will never forget the past as long as the people are remembered... But that doesn't mean running away and chasing down other things to fill the void. ]

For now, remember that you said that.

[Don't call him out on his dodging like that, Xiao... He pouts softly even with the little show of affection.]

I'll remember it if you give me a kiss.

I'll do more than that if you stop running away from a plush imitation of your dragon.

[ Choices, Venti! ]

[...?!?!? Mean??? How can Xiao dangle that in front of his very eyes?]

Xiao, that's just playing dirty!

Maybe just a little.

[ But he is certainly going to kiss Venti again. As if to try to tempt him more. This time it isn't an innocent peck. But a true, full blown kiss. ]

[Oh... That makes Venti's heart skip a beat. He sighs so softly into the kiss and keeps his arms around Xiao's neck to stay close.

Xiao is right. For all the things that Venti has seen and done... He will have to let go of the past. Someday... As much as it hurts. But with Xiao closeby... Maybe it won't hurt as much as he thinks it might.

The doll starts to float away until it vanishes on the wind.]

[ If he could hold Venti closer himself, he would. Venti seems to be doing a good job for him though. For them both. He continues to keep their faces close, nose brushing against nose. A light bite to the lip.

Letting go of the past doesn't mean letting go for the memories. It just means keeping them close to one's heart. ]

Look at your little spectre now.

[Venti lets out a gentle little giggle. His cheeks warmly pleasantly at Xiao's simple affections. How he adores him so.]

All but gone, it seems.

[There's nothing to be scared of.]

I would very much like to cuddle up to you tonight to stave off the cold, if you would have me. Maybe we can even fine a bottle of wine to share while we do.

[Cuddle with him! Keep each other warm!]

No. To both of those things.

[ Wait what? Xiao is refusing something like that? But how? Why? Xiao hasn't actually refused this sort of thing before. ]

I don't wish to merely cuddle and I'll not have your senses diluted for what I have planned.

Ehe?!

[Venti pulls back to look at Xiao in shock.]

Just exactly what are you planning, Xiao?
