i: Cuddle Your Fears

[Kaoru had accepted everything pretty easily. A dream world? Sure, why not? She just came back from an adventure to an alternate universe where Minamoto was a young woman where they were visited by alternate versions of herself where the Children were all teenage boys. This isn't even that weird even with her being able to sleep and dream in this apparent dream world.

In short: her tolerance for weird things is pretty high.

Even so, she wants to draw the line at random dolls that look like her just randomly appearing. She frowns at it.]

Why isn't this thing cuter? I'm way cuter than that. [Yes, this is her complaint.]


ii: Halloween Shopping

[Catch her picking out costumes! Most of what she gravitates towards have short skirts. These, she may turn to someone, holding it against herself.]

[...but she'll occasionally pick one out that she thinks is funny. Like a full bear suit.] You should try this!

Joking aside, she took a moment and tried to think like Minamoto. He probably would encourage her to think of why the doll appeared in the first place, wouldn't he?]

[Unfortunately, brute force has worked for Kazuya in the past. He's perceptive, but also a brute force kind of boy. It's worked in the past, so why not now?

He crosses his arms, considering.]

We could maybe go barter for some rope. ... Or I could see if Orthrus might be able to eat them?

[...It's a two headed demon dog. Surely it loves tearing apart stuffed animals. Dogs love that shit.]

[She wishes brute force worked on everything but Minamoto has reinforced that, no, brute force doesn't solve everything.

It's still good for stress relief though.]

He's a demon dog. And has two heads. So I figured... one for each doll?

Oh yes! That would be pretty amazing. I don’t mind getting dressed up for big events and holidays like Halloween. It is that one major holiday that everyone gets to dress up as anything or anyone at their own wishes.

Now to be honest to you, I never got to experience Halloween before coming to this place: Russians at back home don’t seem to celebrate it as often as Easter or Christmas but I have since gotten to enjoy it very much.

Well, in that case, why not try a wig and then try on the clothes?

[Since not knowing what your hair will look like might make it difficult!]

[Russia, that's Robiet, right? But like, the one that doesn't have the name slightly changed for the sake of the argument that all inaccuracies are artistic interpretation.]

I guess it makes sense that it's not celebrated in some places. Where I'm from the trick-or-treating thing isn't really done, so this will be my first time celebrating Halloween like this too!

[Though she hadn't entirely committed to it...but if she hasn't then why not have fun with trying?

She puts both outfits back though an observant person may notice that she actually lets go a little before they're hung properly...but they seem to hang themselves back on the rack anyway.]

I was thinking maybe green hair? Ah, but my eyes are still a little red...that combination might not be right for this holiday...

[While he goes to the change room, she makes good on her promise to find a headband with cat ears and a tail. She even found a tail with a bell on it.

She comes back to the change room...ah, if she knew his name it might be easier to call out to him...oops. Well, whatever!]

I found the accessories!

[Hopefully her voice is recognizable enough!]

[See, Kazuya isn't as worried about seeing a doll version of himself turned into a chew toy.

He'll futz around in his back pocket for a moment, grabbing his COMP out of habit and even bringing up the menu to summon a demon before he realizes that A) Orthrus isn't even in it, and B) He doesn't actually need his COMP to summon a demon anyway.

Not that he puts it back into his pocket, but he does exhale and focus, a dark, swirling and electrified portal appearing to the right of him where said two headed dog exits from, portal closing behind it.

Both heads look... incredibly happy? And it's tail is wagging excitedly. And perhaps, most surprisingly, it speaks:]

MY MASTER HAS CALLED!

[Loudly. With twin voices.]

WHAT WOULD MY MASTER REQUEST OF ME?

[To that, Kazuya spins on his heel, snatching up his doll behind him, and offering it to the demon.]

I thought you were doing some pretty good work back home, so I thought you might like a reward for being such a good boy. [Yes, he is talking to the demon dog as if it's a regular dog, and a good boy at that.] You want a chew toy, right? For being such a good boy?

[Orthrus... Barks. Like a dog. And he's clearly excited, juding by the way he's bouncing up and down on his front paws.]

MY MASTER BELIEVES I AM A GOOD BOY? THAT I AM WORTHY OF A TREAT?

That's right! And this person right here has another toy so you don't even have to split it!

Nice. It should be a great time for you to experience the full Halloween experience as much as I did two years ago. Last year we had a troupe hosting a big Halloween carnival and it was a lot of fun visiting even if some stuff did got a little too wild.

Either way, I do hope that they will be back again this year. I do wonder what sort of surprises and stuff they have planned out this year.

[ Oh he knows her voice. He's going to remember this voice for the rest of his days. Prompto comes out, cheeks a little pink from embarrassment, but sure enough he has put on the maid outfit.

How did he get here exactly? ]

He notices the clothes fixing themselves on the rack, but feels it's inappropriate to ask about it.]

[Her first, immediate thought was: that dog is so ugly. What's that colour combination?

But the personality is pretty cute. 7/10 after factoring that in.

That being said, if she found anything strange about this entire thing she didn't show it (because, really, this isn't that strange.)]

That's right. You're worthy of two treats!

[Because the doll is creepy and an insult against her cute image. So she holds up a finger and the doll flies over to the dog(?) as if it were pulled by an invisible string.]

[He got here because she's a menace.]

Well, not yet it isn't.

[She walked over with a slight bounce to her steps. Then her feet actually leave the ground as she floats up just enough to place the cat ear headband on Prompto's head.

Technically, her powers are supposed to be a sort of secret but she figured in this place she could find some excuse or another for them.]

There! Now the look is complete!

That sounds so cool! Carnivals are so much fun!

[She says even though she's often....not allowed at things like that back home. Which isn't to say she'd never gone, but it wasn't technically legal.]

What was it like last year? Did they have games? Performances?

There was a lot during the first Halloween Carnival. Plenty of great rides and food, a couple of arcade game booths, a haunted house attraction, a game of musical floors in the catacombs, a circus, and a hall of mirrors. Not sure if we had any performances at the time but maybe this year we might get some in the carnival.

It was filled with so much things to do that it didn’t got too boring in there so much.

[Orthrus... Howls and bounces more in response, and then jumps to catch the doll that flies at it.

Which Kazuya watches while blinking curiously at the action that causes the doll to move on it's own. Well now! Weird. Another person with magic powers. There really are a bunch here, aren't there?

Kazuya's own doll is also subsequently taken. And both are chewed on and drooled on, with occasional flames coming from the demons mouth as it tries to tear the dolls into pieces with... Very little success.]

Well, that takes care of that problem, right? Dogs love destroying things. I'm sure he'll figure it out.

Oh...um... [ Hang on he's processing. ]

Thank you?

[ Politeness wins again. Now he's a blond maid with cat ears. What is his life? ]

[She even throws in a wink. She moves a little further back, feet still not touching the ground. She holds out her hands, thumbs and forefingers framing him..[]

You look great! A perfect--oh, um. What's your name? I forgot to ask.

I...I guess that's something? Oh!

[ He blushes. ]

I'm Prompto Argentum.

[Why Hermione? It's a weird running gag.]

[She watches and, okay, this actually makes her feel better. Even so...

She sighs.]

Unfortunately, it doesn't seem to be doing anything. Besides, this has the sort of feeling you get from those RPG quests that have a specific way you're supposed to solve it.
