HALLOWEEN
Another Halloween has arrived in Reverein, and the Nightmare Troupe returns from their mysterious origins to help transform the carnival grounds to fit the season. They've added a new feature attraction: The Labyrinth, where everyone just runs around to fight spooky baddies for candy, prizes, and flex one's combat abilities in dreamotion. It's all in good fun, of course!
More details on everything can be found here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in October and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of October 25th, just before the event ICly begins. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count October as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open October 25th and Applications will open on November 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until January.

I. CARNIVAL
While the carnival grounds still have the standard fare of attractions themed up for Halloween, there are a few new ones popping up thanks to the Nightmare Troupe. Some are similar to what appeared last year, but with a different look to them. Some, perhaps, more terrifying than before.

D. Carnival Fare. Here are a few of the general games and attractions available for carnival goers to enjoy.

🔫 Zombie Shooter. Ride through a rickety car through a building and shoot the "zombies" that pop up with bright green paintball guns. While most are cardboard, there are a few volunteers that dress for the occasion. Don't mind their pain as they get hit, they're fine.
👻 Spooky Stories. Instead of a fire, there is a boiling cauldron set up where people can gather around and try to conjure up their spookiest story. The steam over the cauldron will change and twist to try and illustrate the story as it goes, and should it proof particularly scary, a manifestation of the terror will crawl out of it to terrorize everyone for a little bit before disappearing.
🍏 Poisoned Apples. Special caramel covered green apples are handed out throughout the carnival. One bite will inflict one or more of the following effects: floating, dizzy, sugar rush, creepy, frightful. (Players are free to be creative and come up with additional effects!)
🧹 Broom Carousel. The horses have been replaced with different styles of witch brooms, letting everyone have a safe experience of flying on a broom. Until the brooms suddenly fly out of the carousel and into the carnival. Hang on or stop that broom!
🎃 Pumpkin Carving Challenge. Pumpkins can be found all over the grounds, and there is a challenge to carve them with dreamotion and light a special candle in them. Doing so will bring the pumpkin to life and behave like whatever expression or drawing carved on them. Whether they behave nicely is a different matter. Blowing out the candle will stop the pumpkin.
E. House of Mirrors. The House of Mirrors will have new mirrors installed that have new special effects…many making everyone inside feel not quite themselves.

🎭 Jekyll and Hyde. A black framed mirror where the opposite version of the viewer appears to taunt them.
💅 Narcissism. A gold framed mirror where one will see the best version of themselves and will stand stuck in front of it admiring themselves. They will need to be forcibly dragged away…else they may get stuck on the mirror.
🛌 Dream or Nightmare? A silver framed mirror that will reflect either a good dream or a nightmare that's on the viewer's mind. It will be a strong image, so strong that the viewer may be tempted to dreamwalk into the mirror, either to be a part of it or to destroy it. Some help may be required to help them either accomplish their goal or pull them out.
🪞 Mirror Version. Sometimes, a "mirror version" of the viewer may reach out to switch places, trapping the original inside the mirror while the mirror version goes out to cause some chaos. The trapped person can only traverse through mirrors, and can only be freed if the mirrored version is shoved back into any mirror. One way to tell a mirror version apart is that they will randomly reflect things off their body.
F. Haunted Ryokan. A haunted Japanese styled inn is the theme for this year's "haunted house." On the outside, it looks invitingly eerie, with life-sized traditional Japanese dolls as their hosts and guides. They hope their new patrons will enjoy their stay…forever.

🏮 Peony Lantern. At first a beautiful woman will appear holding a lantern and take a person's hand to lead them through the narrow halls lit by floating lanterns. But whenever they pass under a lantern, the woman's form changes into a skeleton. Once they are noticed, they will screech and chase them through the hallways and rooms to the next location, but if left alone it will quietly lead them without issue.
🛁 Bathhouse. Somehow they get to the bathing area where the steam rises thick around them. Without warning a ghostly figure of a long-haired drowned woman will crawl out and chase with a bloody knife. Fish spirits will also fly out to impede them, but they could be used to smack the woman instead. Should someone slip in the water, they'll feel hands grab at them, trying to pull them under…
🪦 Graveyard. Past the courtyard is a graveyard where all manner of Japanese inspired ghosts and demons roam. A special paper talisman is available, and once powered with positive dreamotion it will create a shikigami that will help ward off and defend against the ghosts. But it must have constant dreamotion poured into it, so should it ever go out, the ghosts and demons will suddenly rush into chase.
🐕 Shiba Statues. Should anyone be having a truly terrible time, special little shiba inu statues will trot in to dispel the "evils" and give the visitor some much needed comfort and respite. They will even guide them to the exit if needed. Those who manage to pass through on their own will also meet the shiba inu statues and have a chance to play with them as if in congratulations.
II. LABYRINTH
A big structure now occupies the area just beyond the Fairgrounds. Towering stone walls hide complex pathways inside, and it turns out its express purpose is not to get people lost, but for a little bit of exploration. There is no entrance/exit, just a special circular teleportation pad that will take them inside and there is no end goal. It's not difficult to get out once inside, but the winding paths encourage visitors to check behind corners for treats because there's a lot of treats AND tricks!
A. Halloween Creatures. The labyrinth is populated with silly creatures held together by craft glue and duct tape both dreamotion and nightmare. These creatures will attack on sight, but subdue them and reap the rewards: candy and silly toys! It's all for fun, after all.

🦴 Skeletons. Their bones are made of rubber and most physical attacks will bounce off them. Have to get in close to blast with dreamotion!
🕷 Glow-In-The-Dark Plastic Spiders. Will shoot sticky licorice webbing that will trip up and trap any caught in it. Have to eat through it to get out, and the flavor could either be red or black.
🔺 Candy Corn Golems. Chuck giant pieces of candy corn that are delicious, but hurt! Golems will melt under intense heat.
B. Mysterious Doors. Sometimes, you may find a door at one of the dead ends. Knock, and most of the time a kindly old lady (where did she come from? Don't worry about it–) will present you with special trick-or-treat bags. The other times, a swarm of genuinely sinister nightmare creatures will come pouring out. Oops! Try again next time! Here are some of the items the old lady will give and their effects (they can be taken home after the event):

🧙 Witch's Hat. The hat will automatically fly on top of the person's head and will allow them to cast silly hexes of misfortune on their targets.
🧹 Witch's Broom. Can fly at fast speeds for a few minutes at a time. Only goes up to three feet in the air.
🤓 Plastic Fangs. These fangs will fit themselves in the person's mouth and will allow them to bite any candy corn golem or sticky spider licorice webbing with ease. And normal foods, too.
🕸 Spray Can of Licorice Webbing. Releases a spray of licorice webbing similar to the ones used by the plastic spiders.
🧻 Roll of Toilet Paper. Exactly as it says.
🍫 Nougat Center. A delicious treat that will temporarily boost one'sstatsdreamotion abilities.

Oh, do be careful!
[She hangs back just a little, heeding Gina's warning. Looking around at the scene immediately confirms her suspicions that something was very odd about it. The fact that a person is caught in a large web is strange enough on its own, honestly.]
Are...their webs made of sweets? Perhaps I have something that could dissolve them...
[Iris starts rifling through her bag. She actually wasn't really sure what was on her person; things were oddly missing when she'd gotten here. If only her thermos wasn't empty of hot tea...
The task at hand has her full attention, so a particularly mischievous spider setting its sights on her goes unnoticed.]
no subject
As Iris speaks, Gina gives a confused blink.]
...Sweets? What're ya goin' on about? They're webs, ain't they...
[She hasn't considered the possibility that it all could be anything other than real webs trapping her. She's just been focused on trying to squirm free!
But before she can look at the webs, something else catches her eyes, as she spots a spider heading for Iris.]
Watch out, on yet left! [Toby springs over to help!]
no subject
[Iris jumps away, nut one strand catches her on the shoulder. She stays relatively composed, though. She pokes at the taffy with her free hand.]
I'm quite sure these aren't webs. Not that I've seen any that are this large before. But this seems more like a sticky sugar.
[She's probably had to deal with Sholmes making a mess with his caramel bars before, so it's not unfamiliar to her.
Iris takes a moment to smile at Toby.]
Thank you for coming here, Toby. Good boy!
no subject
Relieved that Iris seems alright, she also gets a better look at the strand that got her shoulder.]
... Yeah? ... It's... sugar?
[Now Gina raises her arm to get a better look at some of her own webbing. It does look unusually colorful!
...Taking a chance, she tucks her head down and starts chewing on yhe string. Her eyes widen, and she proceeds to exclaim with a full mouth-]
Blimey, you're right! It's real sweet!![The chewing quickly intensifies!]
no subject
[Toby was certainly being sweet, but that's not the sort of thing that's easy to know how to respond to. Even though with London life, Wagahai has probably brought her plenty of "presents" like that.
Gina's investigations get her attention away from the pooch again.]
Ginny, w–...! ...Well, I suppose that's one way to get freed from it.
[Iris isn't exactly sure munching on strange food is a good idea? Her dad is Sholmes, she's seen things. It doesn't look like it's doing Gina any harm, at least. She experimentally tugs on the one that's stuck to her, as figuring it out is a bit higher on her list of priorities now that Gina seems to be in control of her situation.]
no subject
As for Gina, she eagerly eats her way to freedom! This rescue is speeding up now. Once her arm and leg are successfully untethered, she immediately runs up to Iris to wrao her in a hug.]
It- it's really you, right? It ain't no trick? [She tries to hold back tears! It's been well over a year since she saw her for real back in London.]
no subject
Of course it's really me!
[While she has a rough idea of the situation, Iris has no idea how long it's been for Gina. In her mind they'd seen each other relatively recently and it was certainly more likely than seeing Ryunosuke or the others back in Japan.]
We must have tea once we've found the way out of here!
no subject
Oi, I- I missed ya so...
[She trails off, starting to feel embarrassed about hpw emotional she's being. She should be strong for Iris! So Gina pulls back, tilts her hat down and looks off towards the wall while sweeping her sleeved arm across her face to wipe away tears.]
It- it's good to see ya again is all! ...Tea would be great. [She moves to help free Iris by chewing on some of the web holding her.]
When'd you get 'ere? You been gettin' on well?
no subject
She had been hoping to figure out a way to study this stuff, but there's enough hanging around that she can probably just grab a hunk or two before leaving. Getting her free was probably a better priority, so she won't stop Gina from working on that.]
Ginny... I'm so happy to see you, too! Unfortunately, my flask was empty when I awoke, but a kettle must be somewhere.
[Which probably won't be much good without the tea itself, but she's from England, it's clearly going to be everywhere.]
Hmm, I haven't really kept track as it's all been a bit of a blur. Perhaps a day ago? This is a very curious place!
no subject
That's fine, it can wait. It'd be easy to spill it while we're in 'ere, anyhow. [What with all the jumpscares.]
Well I'm glad you're alright. [And here in general.] Now that we're together again, beatin' this maze should be simple!
[Toby punctuates the sentiment with an affirmative bark.]
no subject
[Just gonna...casually collect some taffy samples, good thing it's conveniently not being as sticky as usual as she drops them into her bag.]
Right! A Scotland Yard inspector and a great detective's assistant should have no trouble with this! Not with Toby helping us! The trick is to not take a turn to someplace we've already been.
no subject
Right! We'll get this sorted out! An' we're off to a start... Least of all, we know this way's rubbish. So let's scarper on back an' find ourselves a new path.
[With a renewed spring in her step, she starts moving back towards the last fork, with Toby trotting right along!]
no subject
I was in that direction when Toby found me, so let's not take that corridor. Where did you come from, Ginny?
no subject
So I guess now we got it down to this path! [It almost feels like making a deduction!]
no subject
But yes, it is just like what she makes Sholmes always say. With another nod, Iris trods down that way.]
It was rather surprising to be suddenly be in another place, wasn't it? Especially one as odd as this.
no subject
[A short laugh.]
Bein' in a place that's like dreams and real all at once? I feel like I'm still gettin' it all into me loaf, over a year into all o' this. [She says that casually, with a smile and shake of her head, without thinking about what her words revealed.]
no subject
Over a year? But, that can't be right. I saw you only the other day.
[Being a very intelligent girl, she immediately has a thought.]
Oh, but if this is some sort of dream, I suppose time might not run normally... It seems to go faster when I dream about a deadline coming up.
no subject
I don't get it all m'self, but it's sometin' like that. We can call be 'ere from different points in time, an' it's like time ain't movin' back in London while we're 'ere. ...Sometin' of the sort.
[A meek smile.]
I'm sure you'll make more sense of it in no time. Basically, I've been 'ere a bit but I'm fine an' all.
no subject
Oh my, that certainly sounds unusual. But if we can wake up here at different times, coming from different ones is probably only natural. It sounds like there are a lot of interesting possibilities!
[It may not be science, but Iris is clearly already feeling enthusiastic about figuring it out.]
I'm so glad you're well! I suppose that's all that really matters when it comes down to it.
no subject
You don't gotta worry 'bout me. You know I can take care o' meself. [Except when she needs legal representation.] Let's make sure you stay well too, yeah? I can use all me experience an' all wiv this place to 'elp you out.
no subject
[Said completely happily and like it wasn't a crime basically everywhere.]
Thank you, Ginny! In that case, where should we turn now?
[Seeing how they've reached a conveniently placed juncture.]
no subject
It ain't like I'm running a class about it! [...But it might have made for a good icebreaker here or there.
As they come to the crossroads, she pauses in thought. She feels just a little pressure! She wants to prove herself for her smaller friend, especially now that she's reunited with her friend after so long. So Gina thinks a bit and feels out her detective's intuition.]
...Let's try this way. [She indicates the left-hand path and starts moving. It soon looks like another dead end. ...Except this one has a door?]
no subject
[Iris follows her indication without any hesitation. Her eyes go a bit wider when she spots the door, and not long after that, Iris runs toward it.]
This might be the right way! Shall we check?
no subject
That'd be the kicker, yeah? Then again, if they managed that on me, it'd make me proud as can be!
[Gina is soin excited when they see the door!]
'Course! That may be it!
[She wastes no time rushing towards the door! It doesn't open, and she knocks on the door in frustration.
This results in it opening from the other side, where a lady hands each of them a bag before shutting the door.]
...Wot?
no subject
That was strange. Did she think we were going about collecting for something?
[As Iris finishes her question, she gets the bag completely open, only for a witch's hat to zip out and land on her head. Once again, she's left in a stunned silence.]
