[OPEN] Thanksgiving in Reverein
Who: Alastor, OPEN
Which: Log, Open
Where: Dreambucks' kitchen and the Plaza
What: Alastor's fairly certain it's around when Thanksgiving would be based on the season, and what better day to show off his cooking skills than Thanksgiving? He doesn't appreciate being able to talk to people on the regular or anything...nooo...
Warnings: For once, Alastor is not being an absolute gremlin! If you try to get him to admit he's grateful for the people around him, he will tsun like a pro but claim he just did it to show off.
When one doesn't need much sleep, one has a lot of time on their hands. Alastor used his time wisely with some of the basic prep work (Andouille sausage isn't a staple at the market here, after all!) along with experimenting on his roommate, Yoshiya, modifying old favorites with local ingredients.
So when the day arrives, he wrote an invitation to all of Reverein before heading to Dreambucks. He'd made an agreement with them that for one day he'd be allowed to take over their kitchen in exchange for working in their kitchen for a week. He'd upheld his end of the bargain. Time to get down to business.
[Watch Your Step! - Dreambucks' Kitchen]
"Organized chaos" was the best way to describe what was happening in Dreambucks' kitchen. There were only a handful of dishes being made but they were being made in bulk. Alastor himself was a red blur darting about the kitchen as his shadow directed traffic around him.
The Radio Demon was clearly having a blast, his smile wide but less maniacal than usual. He never could've gotten this much done in such large amounts in the treehouse's kitchen.
Be cautious where you step or you might end up runover. (Hopefully you'll have a friend to help you avoid such a fate!) And if you attempt to sneak anything, prepared to have your hand smacked with a wooden spoon delivered by Alastor's shadow.
[The Feast - The Plaza]
The smell would hit curious visitors first: savory, a little spicy, and a hint of sweetness. Things were set up in a buffet style, each container kept warm by small candles lit beneath the containers and perhaps a bit of dreamotion magic caused by the good feelings of the head chef of this surprise. Each dish had a small sign indicating what was being kept warm so nobody stumbled across something they might not have cared for, the full details having been written in Alastor's original invitation. As far as drinks went, it was the usual fare from Dreambucks, only fitting given it was their kitchen and tables that had been put into service.
There were plenty of places for people to sit and enjoy the pleasant fall weather as they ate. Perhaps it would also encourage the diners to find things they themselves were secretly thankful for or at least to chat with their fellow residents.

Alastor | Hazbin Hotel
Honestly, had things gone differently, Alastor probably could've ended up as a chef at a restaurant. He loved entertaining people in one form or another and cooking was one of his passions. This time, however, he kept his preferred peculiar diet out of the recipes. He hated seeing food go to waste simply because people were suspicious of what had gone into them.
Juggling so many dishes in such large amounts was a fun challenge though. As much fun as keeping up a one-sided conversation with his audience over the radio had been. A dash of spices here, a deft flip of the pan there, and don't let what's in the oven burn! Good thing his shadow was directing traffic around him though how well others listened to the mute directions was their own fault.
Alastor took a moment to stop being the cooking red whirlwind, ears twitching as he listened to the various sounds of food cooking. His face beamed with none of its usual hidden malice.
[The Feast - The Plaza - Scenario A]
Alastor stepped out of the kitchen to deliver the latest batch of food. His ears twitched as he listened in to the various conversations along with the sounds of fall. It was...good. Very good. Thanksgiving when he was young had always been such a quiet, somber event. The liveliness of the people here was much better suited for the holiday.
He suppressed the flinch at the sudden, near-forgotten memory of a wooden spoon smacking him for showing such ingratitude for his mother's hard work. She'd done her best under the circumstances, after all. And these were her recipes he was using.
Mentally shaking off the memories, moved towards the tables. "One side please! Need to get this in place while it's still hot!"
[The Feast - The Plaza - Scenario B]
The clock chimed six, and Alastor went to work cleaning up. His muscles ached from all the back and forth of the day but it was a good ache. The rumblings of his stomach? Well, that was a warning to eat something before he started snacking on his diners.
Still, he focused on cleanup first, throwing out what scraps remained on plates, cleaning the remaining dishes, etc. Only once he was finished did he finally take his own plate -- heavy with the leftovers of the day -- out to sit and enjoy his own meal in the cool of the evening.
He honestly didn't expect anybody to linger now that no new food was coming out. There was a sign up saying that if anyone wished, they could ask the Dreambucks staff for some of the leftovers. Those people looking to take some home were probably going to be the only ones he'd see.
The Feast - Scenario B
"... Alastor?"
Her presence here might be especially strange, since she paid her visit to the feast fairly early on in the whole shebang and seemed to have departed a while ago. She'd waved at the time, but hadn't made conversation. Yet now, here she is just the same, drifting over his way with that naturally cautious gait of hers, as if she's half-afraid she's interrupting. Only a touch belatedly, she tugs the corners of her mouth into a delicate smile with her faintly surprised observation, "You're still here...!"

It had been a while since he'd seen the young girl. Seeing the shy thing come for a public meal had been pleasant to see even if he couldn't say so out loud.

Proceeding the rest of the way toward him, she doesn't go so far as to take a seat herself, but rather lingers at a polite distance, one hand curled around her opposite arm. "I'm sorry I didn't say hello to you properly when I saw you earlier. You seemed-- really busy." And she hadn't wanted to try to make the poor fellow slow down that long, obviously. A hint of further contrition sneaks into her expression as she admits, "I was hoping maybe I'd be able to help you clean up, but it seems like you're done with that already."

It was horribly rude to eat in front of someone without at least offering. And his mother would definitely break out the wooden spoon if she saw him neglect his manners in this case.

But that fact also made her more cooperative when Alastor's gesture brought the chair to her attention, her slim shoulders jolting faintly. Another time she might have hesitated, regretful for having caused him any trouble, but since the trouble was already over, she elected not to fuss and stepped forward to take the offered seat. No sooner had she carefully sat down in it with a quiet word of her thanks than his learned generosity made itself known again, and the girl faltered with bashful realization.
"I--" Truthfully, she was getting peckish again; she'd never been a big eater and her earlier visit to the feast was a good few hours ago. "I can get them myself," she offered, sounding faintly embarrassed, since perhaps she ought to have thought of that before sitting. "I'm sure your feet must be very tired already...!"
kitchen!
He certainly hadn't expected all the noise and bustle to be centered around... one man only?
He swung the door further open, not at all intending to sneak up on the chef and somehow throw him off his game, but it was clear from the young man's widened gaze that he was either interested, or impressed, with what exactly he was seeing.
"Sorry am I... intruding?"
