[Closed] Settling In
Who: Gabriel and Adrien Agreste
When: Early this month
Where: Their new house, then likely later out and about
What: Agreste awkwardness. Agreste awkwardness everywhere. Also errands.
Warnings: Likely also some Agreste angst, given the nature their situation.
All in all it hadn't taken them too long to find a house both he and Adrien could agree on. While a far cry from the Agreste mansion in either of their worlds, they both agreed that it was likely the better for the differences. And far more practical, given that they'd have to maintain it largely on their own, at least for the present. A modest, two story house with the kitchen and living area on the ground floor, and the bathroom and two bedrooms upstairs. Technically, there were three bedrooms, but one was rather smaller than the other two, and Gabriel was gradually setting it up as an office and workroom. It was surrounded by a small, fenced in yard, what would be a few small flowerbeds come Spring, and tree that neither of them could immediately identify- given that it was currently bare of leaves- in one corner. All in all it was rather charming.
That didn't make the living situation any less awkward, however. Of course they'd both likely somewhat expected it to be. They got along reasonably well most of the time, but things were distant at best, despite the much closer quarters. While this was also somewhat to be expected under the circumstances, it wasn't a state of affairs that Gabriel wished to have continue. But how to break the metaphorical ice in a way that wouldn't seem like he was intruding, or trying to step into a place that- whatever his feelings about the version of himself Adrien had called father- was not his to take? After discussing the matter with Nooroo, he'd finally come to a decision, settling on a course of action that he felt would likely be relatively stress free for both of them- or at least he hoped so- and one that Adrien could easily refuse if he didn't feel he was ready.
Even so he found himself hesitating outside the closed door to Adrien's bedroom. Why on Earth did simply knocking on a door feel so daunting? He glanced back at the door to his own bedroom; Nooroo hovered there, giving him an encouraging smile and a 'go ahead' gesture before popping back through the closed door and out of sight. Buoyed by his little partner's support, Gabriel took a deep breath and knocked.

"Anyway, I'm going to get my coat and head downstairs. If you'd like to come along, you can get yours on as well and come join me." It might be a fairly nice day, but it was still winter.

He really really wished Nino was there.
Oh look, more bubbles..

"There's also a bookshop I've been meaning to visit, and I wanted to look for a few decorative items for the house as well, even if I didn't pick anything up today. While it's good that it came furnished, the house is a bit spartan at the moment; a few rugs and a painting or two would make it feel a bit less bare."

"Now that we're somewhat established, though, we will be expected to contribute to the community. Or at least I will, being an adult. That's why one other thing I'd planned to do today was to make a brief stop at the Dream Board and post this." He pulled a neatly folded piece of paper out of his pocket, unfolded it, then held it up so that Adrien could read it. It was an advertisement for tailoring services, penned in neat, crisp handwriting all but identical to that of his own father. "I don't have the resources to actually produce new designs yet, but repairs and alterations are simple enough."

Also he had to think over this barter thing. Maybe Adrien couldn't really offer much... but Chat Noir.
But did he dare? Did this Gabriel's world have a Chat Noir? He'd met at least one other version of himself... if there was another one as well... then Chat Noir showing up now could be too... obvious. He would have to wait until more people arrived. Or just be careful not to be seen. Which would be hard to deliver things or talk to people who needed help. If he had the Fox Miraculous this would be much easier, of course. But...
Well, he'd have to give it some more thought, clearly.
He didn't noticed that there were small black bubbles trailing behind him as he thought.

Gabriel refolded the advertisement and put it back in his pocket. When he looked back up, however, he noticed the black bubbles trailing behind Adrien. He didn't know what they symbolized, as he seemed relatively calm at the moment, but it was mildly concerning. "Is something the matter, Adrien?", he asked. "Some of the bubbles floating around you have turned black."
no subject
But the question startled him and he glanced back as the bubbles popped. He had to come up with a cover, quick, so he used a thread of the anger he had been tramping down. "So you're just going to do what you want until you can find someone to convince to do what you want?" he asked, crossing his arms.
It was the fastest way he could think to explain away the bubbles, and it wasn't like it ever took much to provoke his father. If nothing else, seeing Nino trying to not provoke him had taught him that.

"If you know of a better place to post the advertisement, I'll gladly consider it. But as I said, the Dreamboard is the only public noticeboard that I've seen; posting it there just seemed the most practical option. As for convincing people of anything, I think you're somewhat overestimating my persuasiveness; while in my own world I do wield a certain amount of influence, here I'm simply an ordinary citizen, and a newcomer besides. I have no greater authority or influence than anyone else. I simply meant that I would suggest the idea via the local communications network connected to those crystals we each got, and participate in any discussion that might result."
no subject
"Why can't you just use that communications network to announce the work instead of covering up other people's postings?" he asked, crossing his arms, clinging to stubbornness to keep him from falling apart. Standing up to someone who looked this much like his father was terrifying and the crossed arms were as much to keep himself together than it was a show of anger.
no subject
"And while I have included my contact information on the advertisement and likely will make an announcement, from what I know about the communications network, it would be impractical to rely solely on that for advertising, as opposed to a more permanent posting. This is especially true since I'm looking to establish myself with clientele in an entirely new area, where I'm largely an unknown and have no real reputation to speak of. I can't simply make a one-time announcement and expect people to come running."

His shoulders slumped as he remembered just how alone he was.

All in all, making ups several ads didn't take too long between the two of them, though it did give Gabriel something of a new appreciation for photocopiers. He looked over his last one and gave a satisfied nod. "This should be enough, I think." He glanced over to Adrien to see if he was nearly done with his last copy.

"Yeah, we can ask," he said, wanting to stress the last word, but not quite daring to after his last gaff.

He nodded his agreement that they could ask and gathered up the copied advertisements into a neat stack. "Let's get our coats and head out then."
