What: January Catch-All
Warnings: Spoilers for the second case of the first game in the first set of prompts.
I. Of Time Spent Aboard the S.S. Burya open, interactive dream
(Contains SPOILERS for The Great Ace Attorney, Case Two)
( option 1 )
[You wake from a heavy sleep with a dull, throbbing headache to the sight of a moderately furnished room aboard a ship. It's not the rocking of waves that wakes you, nor the pounding of your head-- though the latter does not seem willing to relent any; leaving your head feeling sluggish and heavy. But just outside your door you can hear a commotion taking place. Russian voices exchange words with one another in heavily-accented English. And while you cannot hear the precise words, there is a sense of panic and urgency among them.
Further investigation of your room yields the sight of a heavy wooden wardrobe, a small round dining table, a sturdy writing desk, a book case laden into the wall and a pull cord above your bed that is attached to a bell. There are also several bags, most certainly for storing luggage. It isn't modern by any means, but it is modestly well put together for the time and the quality of the furnishings are quite good.
Should you care to read them, there are also a list of rules and regulations posted on the wall near the book case. Something about not keeping weapons or other dangerous objects. Pets are also strictly forbidden.
That said, it sounds as though the majority of the noise outside is coming from across the hall, should you wish to investigate.]
( option 2 )
[Everything is pitch black. No amount of blinking will help your eyes adjust to this darkness.
But somehow, even though you cannot see them, you know there is someone else here in this space with you. They, however, do not seem to be able to sense you. All your other senses are that much sharper without your eyes to guide you. You can hear the way they anxiously wring their hands together and fidget anxiously. Their breathing is unsteady-- rushed, even. You can feel their sorrow, their anguish, their fear, their uncertainty. And a crushing loneliness, filled with regret.
While there's no signs of where the empty space ends, there's this unshakable feeling that it's closing in around you.
They're not your feelings though. They're his.]
II. Out of Icelation
[Though he wasn't entirely convinced that the town plaza was the best location for this, he knew he couldn't very well focus on practicing what he wanted in his home without creating a whole mess of the place. Or-- more of a mess than he already does. At least out here, there's more than enough open space-- and much lower chances that he might break or destroy something. Not... zero percent chance or anything but. Closer to it, surely. Unfortunately there's also snow. A good deal of it, too.
Nonetheless, he hasn't come empty-handed. He has with him a notebook filled with ideas and observations on dreamotion energy and the more ~mystical~ magical properties of it. It's positively littered with colored tabs at the top, marking different pages. While he's no Susato, he would definitely say he's watched and learned from the best. They focus on the more practical uses for it, but there are mentions of
In this case though, it seems he may be overthinking things more than a little bit. He seems... nervous.
That energy has actually caused the snow around him to nearly stop-- though it's not exactly still either. It seems to be vibrating in place. But his head is in his books at thoughts so much that he hasn't noticed it.]
...compared to law, this should be nothing. [...he sighs and rubs the bridge of his nose.] Maybe not everyone is cut out for this kind of thing.

And what crime, exactly, has been committed?
no subject
Don't go spreading this around-- I'm only gonna tell you because you're already here. [Even softer:] Was a murder. Stowaway boy went and killed the guy who was staying in that room over there.
no subject
... Reprehensible.
[But he doesn't dwell. There is a problem to be solved.]
Where is the suspect? [His voice is commanding, though he doesn't raise his voice. He won't take no for an answer.] As a British Crown prosecutor... I am more equipped to question such a criminal than any sailor on this ship.
[
because ace attorney lawyers are also detectives i guess.]no subject
Sure enough he points into the open room-- towards the wardrobe, oddly enough. It's sealed shut with a piece of paper with some obviously foreign writing on it.]
--is in there.

Investigation Start]no subject
Van Zieks certainly takes note of the marked outline of the body on the floor and the bloody writing as he steps inside, but the absence of any actual suspect as the sailor clearly indicated draws him to said wardrobe.
Surely not. To have put them in this easily-escaped confined space, rather than locked in a proper room? It's beyond ridiculous... and yet. He pulls off the wasted sheet of paper before moving to open the doors to the cabinet.]
no subject
Despite all the excitement and his own arrest it seems like he hasn't actually woken up yet. It... probably something to do with that incessant pounding headache that won't seem to go away.]

Mr. Naruhodo?!
[Van Zieks can't help his shocked exclamation. What in blazes is happening. Why is this man locked up in a wardrobe. Why is he a suspect for murder. And while van Zieks is still feeling significant fatigue himself, surely such a thing wouldn't be enough to keep a man unconscious through someone putting chains on him? Hopefully the name was enough to wake Ryunosuke, but if not, he'll be given a shake by the shoulder for good measure.]
no subject
Although he comes about slowly, the sound of his name does cause him to stir with bleary eyes squinting towards his visitor. It hurts but he fights the foggy feeling hanging over his head.
Only to snap wide awake once recognition sets in..]
...Prosecutor van Zieks?!
no subject
[He may not know about the boat murder or the restaurant murder, but the Windibank case certainly left an impression. The throb of his temples has become a minor inconvenience in light of finding this man doubly locked up on what was meant to be an uneventful trip. He turns his gaze about as if to search for something or someone, his scowl particularly fierce. This man being in chains seems ridiculous, frankly—even aside from the wardrobe situation.]
What sort of barbaric treatment these mariners think appropriate...
no subject
[Ryunosuke casts his eyes down to the outline made on the floor. Of course the body has already been taken out, but the rest of the evidence is still there; left in the exact state it was found.]
The owner of this cabin was murdered while I was stowing away here in this wardrobe. Which... makes me their number one-- no, their only real suspect. Which is why I can't really leave here.
[Even with the prosecutor present, he's still being watched very closely by the nearby sailors.]
no subject
Hmph. [He casts a look over the room once more; the plate and utensils, the Cyrillic text on the floor, the open journal on the desk. Something happened, certainly, and he's of a mind to discover what—but other things seem more prudent to address first.]
But clearly you have committed no such act. Are you content to allow them to lock you away like an unwanted piece of luggage rather than a man?
no subject
--no! Of course not...
[...though he seems far less confident as to how he will do such a thing. The mess around them is certainly full of clues, but it still proves to be difficult to look at without thinking about the person who was no longer here because of those events.]
But I can't even investigate the scene myself.
[He knows all too well the eyes of the sailors are still on him.]
no subject
Then as a high-ranking member of Her Majesty's judiciary, I shall myself take full responsibility over your custody. [His voice is raised, the statement directed towards said sailors though he only turns his head halfway towards them.
He doesn't figure they'll know anything meaningful about what authority he may or may not have, anyway, as long as he says it with the right tone of voice. Returning his attention to Ryunosuke:]
Let us not waste any more time, lest the true culprit have the chance to escape.
