[This message comes in some very distinct handwriting. He's actually writing in Japanese but, y'know, magical mechanics. Though it might be recognizable to those who've conversed with Yujin over the journal before, it's also perfectly legible. (C'mon, not all doctors have terrible handwriting.)]

Good afternoon. If I may have a moment of everyone's time, please.

Should we not be acquainted yet, my name is Yujin Mikotoba. Currently, I am working with Dr. Mathis to get a medical clinic up and running. Back home, I am a university professor of forensic science and on rare occasion, I serve as a diplomatic advisor to my government.

I am writing to you today with the intention of discussing the ever increasing criminal activities within Reverein and its neighboring areas. It has come to my attention that there are no true written laws to be found, nor official law enforcement. There is no ruler of any sort here, and as a result, no one who has the final say in conflicts. I fear that before long, we may be opening ourselves up not only to vigilantes, but to those who may take advantage of the lack of structure and authority in order to get away with more nefarious deeds.

However, I am aware this is not a simple discussion by any means. As our community continues to grow, so does the diversity within it. We all hail from different worlds, with different cultures and values. What may be common courtesy to some may be an entirely foreign concept to others. For that reason, I propose that there may be merit in assembling a council of sorts. Not to rule, but rather, to offer perspective from different angles. It may be too early to construct true laws, though that needn't stop us from coming together and building a bit of moral structure. The more feedback and experiences we gather in this council, the easier it will be to construct regulatory guidelines. Then, in due time, perhaps we may gather some volunteers to be certain these guidelines are adhered to for the sake of keeping the peace.

This is only a humble proposal, of course. If you have any thoughts on the matter, or an interest in this hypothetical council, please feel free to respond. I would very much like to hear more opinions. Thank you for your time.


[Greenhouse | OTA]

[It's a brisk day out, a light drizzle of rain pestering anyone who dares to venture outside. Luckily, Yujin Mikotoba is working inside. Inside the greenhouse, that is! The Glowing Dawn flowers, an impressive collection in all, are glowing with a discreet blue light and the rain is tapping against the glass roof in a relaxing manner. All in all, it's not a bad place to be! Yujin is crouching by some of the flowers, checking the leaves for any infestations and taking notes on their growth.

While the greenhouse is just behind the Mikotoba treehouse, it's not exactly private property. Anyone is free to stop by and investigate!]


[Clinic | Closed to Jude]

[Another location where Yujin spends his time is the soon-to-be-clinic! It's still being prepared together with Jude, but they're getting very close now. The place ought to be operational soon enough.

At the moment, Yujin is preparing a bed in one of the patient rooms. After what happened with 76, it's become extra clear to him that the clinic needs to be ready to accept patients as soon as possible, so they can recover in a controlled environment with all the necessities within reach. The room has to be clean and it has to be comfortable.]

[Yujin watches her go for a moment, before shutting the door again. There was a nasty breeze trying to make its way inside.]

Your dog is free to walk around, if it likes. Just so long as it doesn't... do its business here. [He has no idea how the flowers would react to that sort of manure, and he's not quite willing to put it to the test either.]

Bark, bark, bark!

Sure thing, I will make sure that he doesn’t do that.

(Pooka barks in excitement as soon as Anya puts him down on the ground so he can explore the greenhouse. The very curious dog begins to sniff at every flower he could find.)

Wow, there is a lot of flowers growing at the moment. They look so beautiful.

[Though his gaze follows Pooka for a few seconds, he trusts the dog not to do anything too rambunctious. So he turns his attention to Anya, smiling at her.]

They're quite wondrous, aren't they? They've been named Glowing Dawn flowers.

That is a really beautiful name for these flowers.

(Anya then takes a whiff of some of the Golden Dawn flowers and finds that they smell amazingly sweet & fragrant. The color of the flowers is just as stunning as well, this is unlike any flowers she has come across.)

Oh wow, they smell so wonderful.

That's not all. They're meant to have properties to them which diminish noctaere effects. I've been researching them to see whether they might serve a medicinal purpose, in order to treat anyone who's been touched by those beings.

Oh, so these flowers could have an effect against the Noctaere and can heal people affected by them? That is really great news. I am very curious to see how the research on the Golden Dawn flowers will turn out.

[professorbestie]

As am I. As soon as there's any significant progress, it will be reported, of course. [He takes a brief moment to slide his hands into the sleeves of his kimono.] I'm working with another doctor in town to combine our research results and implement them in a communal clinic. We ought to be able to help people quite effectively that way.

[grandduchess_anya]

A clinic sounds like a great place to conduct research and heal people from what injuries and sickness they have may.

(Pooka is still busy sniffing his nose on the flowers, the scent very hard to resist for the canine.)

[He watches Pooka from the corner of his eye, but as the dog is only sniffing right now, it's fine.]

Indeed. Thankfully, there hasn't been much of a demand for one yet. One should hope it will find as little use as possible. However, it's always best to be prepared.

Yes, it is better to be prepared for any situation even if they haven’t grown in number just yet than not knowing what to expect.

If I may ask, how did you managed to find the Golden Dawn flowers originally?

[professorbestie]

Oh, I didn't find them myself, I'm afraid. Some of them were brought to me by a friend who'd come across them out in the woods, by a system of caves. Their soothing effect on someone afflicted by Noctaere was very clear, and so, we decided we'd do everything in our power to grow more of these in a controlled environment.

[grandduchess_anya]

Ah, it is really nice of them to gather some of the flowers so we can find ways to keep the Noctaere at bay.

I am really impressed with the flowers’ growth so far, hopefully they will bloom into their fullness real soon.

Yes, they've been doing surprisingly well, taking into account that they aren't growing in their natural surroundings. Though I suppose a humid greenhouse is similar enough to a cave by the river, isn't it?

Oh yes, I would definitely agree on that. That would provide a similar environment to what they are accustomed to. I haven’t ventured into the cave just yet, but maybe one day I can check it out to see where the flowers came from.

(She has been meaning to explore more of the world, but her main concerns about the Story Eater’s presence and her work have keep her away from doing so at the moment.)

[He starts a bit at that last statement, his back straightening.]

Ah. I would advise against that, at least for now. The entire area is guarded by a group of Ents. While usually docile, they attacked someone several weeks ago and we've yet to find out why. I would hate for anyone else to be hurt.

Oh, sorry about that. I didn’t factor in the Ents into this, whoops. I hope that the person who ran into them is going to be alright.

(Pooka got a little worried when he heard about the Ents attacking a dreamwalker a while back as he winces in concern.)

[Whether those particular Ents are still a factor is a whole other question that he doesn't like to raise. There's sure to be more of those beings around. Yujin tilts his head with a strained smile.]

He ought to be just fine. I tended to his wounds myself and his recovery has proceeded very well since then.

Oh phew! It is a good thing that you were able to help him recovering from his wounds.

On the other hand, the color of the flowers look really vibrant and lovely today.

Indeed, so it is. Though it's only a theory for now, I believe they may be reacting to the rain outside. The droplets may not be touching them directly, yet the humidity in the air here has increased significantly. And if not that, then perhaps they can sense the rain to some degree.

Wow. I never heard of that many flowers that can predict the weather or even rain until now. I don’t even know if flowers in my world can do that like how the Golden Dawn flowers can.

That is certainly something new to me.

[professorbestie]

It's only a theory, of course. The rain may not have anything to do with it at all. There's so many factors at play that it's a bit difficult to say anything for certain just yet.

[grandduchess_anya]

Yes, that would require a lot more research and testing to find out what it could do as well and what role does the weather play in the flowers’ behavior.

[professorbestie]

Indeed, that is true. I'll be certain to observe the flowers very closely in the future, to take note of such things. [There's a moment of silence, then he tilts his head with a smile.] And have you been keeping busy as well, Miss Anya?

Oh yes, things have been very busy at Madame Blackbird’s lately. I have been hard at work making plenty of clothes for an assortment of new residents lately.

There has been a wave of new people coming into Reverein recently, so there has been a big demand for clothes for people to wear as soon as they arrive, both Dreamwalker and world native alike.

Ahh, that's very good to hear. And when they're presented with your work, I'm certain they're well taken care of. I've yet to find a single misshapen stitch in the clothes I got from you, after all.
