[Mirai had been used to moving from place to place, never really set down roots ever since Cadavers take her family from her. When life became more dangerous, settling down in one spot no longer became advantageous for her. Sure she could fortify a structure to act as a temporary home, but eventually she would need supplies. Waking up here felt no different. There were no Cadavers to threaten what little life was left back home and there were living people here, lots of them, but it was for that reason that she felt that it was better for her to let everyone else have their pick of the land first.

She didn't have too many belongings coming here, so she had spent most of the time here camping out in odd locations. She mostly stuck to sleeping in trees, but on occasion she might migrate to other locations, doing her best to stay out of the way. You may want to watch out for that staff falling down, lest you be knocked on the head with it.]

Oh! I'm sorry!

[Normally she'd just hop down from the tree branch, but right now she probably should push her body more than it already has been. Instead, a leaf began to grow into a decent size, allowing her to get down safely before it disappeared.]

Are you okay?

[Feel free to question why she was sleeping in a tree.]

Home Improvement;

[Well, now that Mirai has been talked to about just finding a place to stay, she's finally started to think about building herself a home. The problem is that Mirai has never done anything like this. Were it as easy as relying on her magic to do all of the work, she probably would have relied on that. She'd used much more mana than she'd care to admit during her descent that led her here and had already pushed herself too far trying to help everyone else out here, magic was out of the question right now.

No. This was something that she had to do herself. Surely she could figure it out. She'd already gathered what wood planks she could gather and some tools, but she had no idea what to do. Idly staring at a poorly contracted frame that was far from finished, she let out a sigh, hammer in hand.]

I guess I would benefit if I drew out what I want to make first... This is a lot harder than it seems...

[Anybody want to help her out?]

[Which is just an excuse to say she didn't want to take places from everyone else. Girl, just get a treehouse and call it good.]

Get a treehouse. They'll be as open air as you want them to be. Sleeping in the woods is objectively a stupid idea.

Why do you consider it a stupid idea?

[She's used to camping out in trees, abandoned buildings, ruins... Probably not normal for most people.]

Well, to put it simply. If something were to happen to you out here, say you were dragged into the deep darkness of the forest, transformed into something horrific and never seen from again, regardless of your combat ability...

Nobody would notice. [* They are trying to be spooky now, admittedly.]

By isolating yourself, all you're doing is denying several layers of defence. Thus, it's objectively stupid.

I've dealt with literal nightmares before. I doubt I could be taken so easily. [Folding her arms into her chest for a moment.] I've been alone for as long as I could remember. Unfortunately, this isn't anything new nor is it a new challenge to overcome. I've done it before, I can do it again.

If anything, seeing so many people alive here... That's what's weird. I appreciate your concern, but I'll be fine.

I do understand being uneasy around people, however. It's why I'm here, away from them, for one.

[* In truth, they might have secluded themselves entirely if Frisk wasn't here.]

It's... not for lack of choice.

[Mirai was not so sure that they understand what she meant by that statement, but she's not about to clarify it. It seems like their reasons were much different from her own.]

Would you rather be left alone than to deal with people then?

[Not asked in a way as if to say if she should leave. It was more in the form of a curious question.]

My experience with people has been almost entirely negative thus far.

[* Said simply and without emotion. They're thinking back to the way this girl phrased her statement. Hm. Actually, she may have been talking about the undead... Fascinating.]

Encounters range from bad opinions, having a branch nearly drop on my head, to having my throat nearly slit. [* It's said entirely dryly, but it appears to be a joke.]

My partner is considerably more social than me, despite being less talkative. [* Frisk likes to listen to other people, Chara likes to hear themselves talk, it's a good team.]

I... I see...

[That would definitely be defined as negative.]

W-well... What you need... are people who want to be your friends. I'd be happy to become friends if you'd like to be.

[* What a bold proposition... It's a lot simpler if stated in such clear terms. They mull it over, raising their eyebrows a little surprised. They don't think they've been particularly nice throughout this conversation but... well, Frisk makes friendship look easy, as superficial as those friendships may end up being.

So... they nod.]

We can give it a try, at least. I am Chara. The long dead hope of humans and monsters. [* They offer a hand for a handshake and smile.] And you are?

[They hadn't been the nicest, it's true, but she's dealt with more difficult people than them before. She'd rather make friends than enemies. Accepting their hand to shake it gently.]

It's nice to meet you, Chara. My name is Mirai. [Pause on that] What do you mean by 'long dead hope of humans and monsters'?

It's a title I was given by the King of Monsterkind. I was supposed to be a symbol for their eventual return to the surface. [* They're being unkind. They were more than that to Asgore and to Toriel. But it's what they failed at.]

Then I died, and now I'm here.

Oh, I'm... sorry to hear about that.

[She can't claim to understand everything they said, but dying is... never really pleasant.]
