{ Leprechaun Madness }

MINI EVENT: LEPRECHAUN MADNESS

PROMPTS

A. Pranks and misfortune. April Fool's is coming in a little early with one group of leprechauns with yellow caps running around causing pranks all over. From minor "shoelaces suddenly tied" to "paint falling from scaffolding," anything goes with them. In doing so, they are spreading some bad luck which can be countered a few ways. Those who participate in the pranking will be seen as an ally to this group and won't be pranked on. In addition, those who wear any amount of green on them will be spared from more severe pranks.

  1. Finding good luck. Are you one of the unlucky souls who has been pranked? Try to find some ways to get rid of the bad luck that goes along with it by finding four leaf clovers, finding some rabbits that are willing to let you rub their feet, doing some good deeds around town, etc. As long as you believe it’ll help with the luck, it should work. But you have to actually believe that it will work.

  2. Pranking around. Or perhaps you’re one of the ones doing the pranking in the first place! The yellow caps won’t stop you if you decide to join them in pranking people. The more pranking, the merrier!

  3. Prank war.. For some, the best part of being pranked is retaliation. There’s nothing stopping people from escalating this into a full-on prank war. Counter pranking is welcomed and encouraged–just be aware that the leprechauns will escalate in their pranks as well.

B. Shoemakers. Another group of leprechauns sporting blue hats are hoping to start their own business in town, specifically in the shoe making and repair business. They are quite skilled in their work and will happily take custom orders so long as materials are provided as they start preparing more general stock for the ever growing populace. However some freshly are recruited apprentices are a bit too zealous in their work.

  1. New shoes. New shoes are all the rage this month, and everyone is managing to snag a pair without even trying! How lucky! Or perhaps not so lucky. With or without permission, shoes are being redesigned and altered to a "flashy, fresh" new look, and while some are earnest in their endeavors to match the style to the owner, some take their artistic liberties to the extreme. To make matters more complicated, some even try to add some magic to give an extra "lift" to one's step. As in, making them fly or run fast. Some yellow caps are also interfering by casting bad luck on the shoes, making them more prone to trip, step on things, or making them feel too heavy to lift.

  2. Stolen shoes. No craft is without its fans. And where there are fans, there are superfans who will go to any lengths to acquire a collection of trinkets to show off. These shoe superfans are grabbing shoes wherever they can find them: people’s homes, store fronts, right off of people’s feet. Whether a victim, someone trying to return the shoes, or trying to convince the over zealous fans to stop, it's chaos. To make matters worse, somehow this "superfan zeal" is contagious and if someone isn't careful, they might end up trying to join in the craze and take some shoes for themselves.

C. Pot-O-Gold. The green clad bearded men are well known for their greed, with legends telling of their gold kept in special pots that appear at the end of the rainbow. And what luck that rainbows are appearing all over the place with the weather! However, keeping their gold in special pots has its problems, especially when the rainbows they were hidden under decide to move around. Should favor be gained by these leprechaun, they may consider sharing their gold.

  1. Catch the rainbow. The leprechauns are out looking for their pots of gold and are being quite aggressive about it, shouting at anyone who happens to have a rainbow above their homes or is playing in the colorful rainbows. Some rainbows are actually floating away with that pot of gold attached to it. How does one wrangle a rainbow? Hint, they like to stay in sunny, warm places.

  2. Found a pot, now what? Should anyone stumble upon the pot, it's better to leave it alone or immense misfortune will fall upon them like a curse. What kind of curse will vary (ie, up to the player). Securing and helping the distressed leprechaun, on the other hand, will bring about immense wealth and will improve relations with this group. So what choice will the finder make? Just beware…being around the gold for too long might make them start feeling a little greedy.

  3. Protect the gold! Alternatively, you can gain favor with the leprechauns by preventing other would-be treasure hoarders from carrying the gold away themselves. According to the leprechauns, the gold should be protected by any means necessary. Stop those thieves, or risk becoming one!!

D. Red Cones v. Red Caps. There is a smaller contingent of leprechauns who don special red coned shaped hats that can actually be used as a weapon. They prefer to live out on the edges of the Wildlands near the Cliffs, however the Redcaps have been bothering them and so they seek to recruit any who wish to help aid them in a glorious battle between the small men.

  1. Recruiting fighters. In the name of wanting to be left the hell alone, the Red Cones are recruiting strong fighters who are willing to stand up to the Redcaps and convince them to stop their pestering once and for all. Taller fighters are especially in demand, all the better to tower over their enemies menacingly and whatnot.

  2. Way of the Coned Hat. A select few fighters for the Red Cones will be trained in the secrets of their hat weapons. With the proper infusion of magical (read: dreamotion) energy and the proper incantation, they can be launched at enemies like tiny red rockets. The incantation varies from hat to hat depending on its owner, so players are encouraged to be creative with the magic words needed to set these projectiles flying.

[Mod Note: Details on this mini event can be found here and we request all thread submissions to be made here. The leprechauns from the mini event will last throughout the entire month, with their appearances spaced out to suit whatever time best fits the players.]

[ Trahearne does exactly as commanded: yanks harder. Maybe he does succeed on pulling Gina down a smidge, but he also succeeds on pulling himself up further. He panics a bit. This is all going wrong very quickly, and he was not particularly interested in finding out what was beyond Reverein's atmosphere today.

He looks around frantically and spots a lamppost, reasonably close by but still too far out of reach. His head snaps back up to Gina. Stay calm, stay calm. ]
Do you have something, anything, we could reach the lamp with?!
lestray: (shock)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-13 02:51 am (UTC)(link)
[This... does not seem to be going well. She had assumed that this guy would be an adult who would be good at pulling her down, but now that she's getting a closer look at him... He doesn't look like he's quite the same as people she's used to. He seems very... leafy. Is that why he can't pull her down?!]

Lemme think! I... I... [She pulls out a small gun of some sort.] All I got's this! It shoots out gas an' all... I dunno if it'll be any 'elp!
pactmarshal: him!!! (unbelievable)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-14 11:03 pm (UTC)(link)
[ All leafy and made of sticks, really. ]

If it's all we have, you may as well give it a go! Try to propel ourselves back down! [ Despite his best efforts, the panic is seeping into his voice. He tries to calm himself, but it just makes it worse, and they're floating higher in the meanwhile.

... But if it's making it worse, he might be able to try his vine trick...? He still didn't have a handle on it, but it was better than nothing. ]

If--if it doesn't work, there's something else I can try!
lestray: (i won't hesitate)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-15 04:22 am (UTC)(link)
[And here she thought she looked like she was made of nothing!]

Propel... Oi! I get it now! Now that's a right good idea to give a go. This thing can 'ave a bit of a kick, after all. Alright then, 'ere goes nuffin'...

[With that, she points the gun facing in the opposite direction of the lampost. And... it fires out a blast of pink smoke! The recoil's enough to push them back, a few feet at least. It looks like it will take a few shots to get there, at least.]

It's a start!
pactmarshal: (lore dumping)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-15 11:17 pm (UTC)(link)
Yes! [ Glee! Oh, thank the Pale Tree that worked. He feels his panic ease a bit. ] It's working! Keep at it!

[ ...But it's a bit unfair for him to just sit here and cheer her on. He was supposed to help her in the first place, and that had gone horribly.

Not waiting or asking for permission, he thrusts his hand out towards the lamppost, vines shooting from his fingers, just like he wanted them to. But after a few feet, they reach their limit and crumble away. With a grunt of frustration, he shakes his hand. Fine - he'll just have to try again. ]
lestray: (shock)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-16 04:30 am (UTC)(link)
I'm keepin' at it alright, don't you worry! [She grunts as she fires another shot, pushing them a little closer.

But then she's distracted from her ordeal for a moment as she witnesses the stranger shout out vines from his hand!]

W-wot in the world was that?! Cor, that... that came from you! Alright then, wot's it all mean? You some kinda vegetable man?!
pactmarshal: (talking AT you)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-17 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[ Vegetable man, really? Well, he's been called worse. ]

I'm sylvari! [ Trahearne corrects, but this neither the place or time! ] I'm trying to use what dreamotion energy I can use to keep us from flying farther away! [ And they are doing just that while they have this conversation. He cranes his neck to look back up at Gina. ] Please, keep shooting!
lestray: (thinking)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-18 04:02 am (UTC)(link)
[Oh, she has a feeling she touched a nerve. Could 'vegetable man' have not been the most delicate phrasing for referring to another living being...?]

Oh, sorry 'bout that. Not a bad idea... [More of that whole 'dream-ocean' stuff. She's still trying to figure all that out herself!] I'll keep on shootin', but I only got so much in the thing!

[Except that just when she thinks she's out... she manages to still fire out blasts of gas. And those propel them even farther, much closer to the pole!] Huh!
pactmarshal: (lore dumping)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-20 05:07 pm (UTC)(link)
Just enough, it seems! [ Words of affirmation! Things are going the way they're supposed to!

He turns his attention back to the lamppost. Now that it's much closer, he feels more confident in his ability to tether them. He shoots out his hand again, and the vines respond in kind. The ends tangle on the post, now keeping them in place. Well, for as long as Trahearne can keep the vines up, and he doesn't know how long that will last. ]
Yes! Just a bit more and we'll be safe!
lestray: (a good laugh)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-22 04:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Well, it looks like they're being saved with help from da vine intervention! She glances over to see that tether, with surprise.]

Ya did it! Alright then, I'll bring us the last bit o' the way! [She's not sure how her gun is still firing things, but she focuses her feelings and fires! The last blast of gas brings them the last few feet over to the lampost, which she clutches onto for dear life.]

Cor, we made it!!
pactmarshal: (i wish i could've done more)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-24 08:44 pm (UTC)(link)
[ When Trahearne sees that she has a firm hold on the lamppost, he gingerly lets go of her ankle and places his now-free hand on the post himself. The vines from his other hand disintegrate, crumble into dust, and holds onto post with both hands. It's going to be tough keeping himself this high up, but it should be fine so long as the girl is secure. ]

Thank the Pale Tree, that little pistol of yours turned out to be quite handy! [ He nods to himself. They would have been, to put it lightly, screwed without it. ]

Why did you start floating away to begin with? Was it something you ate? [ He recalls the tea at the cafe when he first arrived. He wouldn't be surprised if it could cause someone to, quite literally, get high. ]
lestray: (neutral)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-25 12:25 am (UTC)(link)
[She's clutching onto that lamppost for dear life!]

I'll thank every tree there is for gettin' this far! [She calls back with relief. Now that she has a solid anchor, that's one step closer to the ground!] I thought I ran outta ammo... but we made it all the way anyway.

[She shakes her head at his question, and she looks down towards her boots.]

It's these new daisies I got. It's gotta be! Them leprechauns, they were like shoe elves. Said they're fix up everyone's ones an' twos better than ever! They did mine for free... an' look where that got me. Up in the air! Shoulda known better than to trust 'em.

[She's still very wary of everything here being free. This is her first big example of one of those things truly being too good to be true!]
pactmarshal: (oookkkk if u say so)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-25 05:26 pm (UTC)(link)
[ ...every tree...

The rhyming slang is new. It takes a moment for things to click, but he's following now. ]

Ah, yes. The imps. [ They have been causing quite the mischief, haven't they? They stole his own shoes not too long ago. ] I'm not sure if it's crude of me to suggest this, but why not go without shoes in the meanwhile? It will keep you grounded, at the very least.
lestray: (thinking)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-25 06:27 pm (UTC)(link)
[She doesn't think much about how her slang might sound to someone not in the know, but at least her body language probably helped in this case.

She frowns thoughtfully as she considers his suggestion.]

...I reckon I'll 'ave to. The way things are now, I can't take a step anywhere wivout settin' flight. I know to watch where I step, at least.

[She hasn't always had footwear of her own, after all.]

Can ya just undo 'em for me, an' I'll kick 'em off? I don't wanna let go of this pole 'til I'm back on solid ground.
pactmarshal: (lore dumping)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-25 08:58 pm (UTC)(link)
Certainly. And fair judgment.

[ He reaches up and undoes whatever fastenings her shoes have, wriggles them off her feet, and tosses them aside. ...Or maybe they float away instead of landing on the ground. He isn't watching - he's too busy making sure both of them are safe on this pole and are able to get down all right. ]

Do you need any help getting down? Are you all right?
lestray: (in action)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-26 02:56 pm (UTC)(link)
[And so she's able to remove his boots! ...Which just float there in the air, eerily. At least Gina's still wearing plaid knee socks to keep her somewhat comfy! Now she clings to the post completely.]

Thanks... Yeah. I reckon I'll be fine from 'ere. It's just a little climb.

[With that, she shimmies her way down to the ground without incident. This at least is the kind of thing she has experience with! And then she looks upwards at the floating boots.]

...I've got 'alf a mind to find those little coves an' make 'em go up there to re-fix me daisies 'emselves!
pactmarshal: (oookkkk if u say so)

[personal profile] pactmarshal 2022-03-30 11:19 am (UTC)(link)
[ Once on the ground, Trahearne comes to stand beside Gina and looks up at the shoes. He sighs and shakes his head, swiping a hand over the leaves on his head. ] You would be right to do so, I believe. I think these games of theirs are getting a bit out of hand.

But what's important is that you're safe now. [ He looks over at her, and one thing hits him - he strands up straighter at the realization. ] I apologise, I never asked for your name. I'm Trahearne, and you are...?
lestray: (thinking)

[personal profile] lestray 2022-03-30 12:29 pm (UTC)(link)
[She dusts herself off a bit and shakes her head as she thinks of the shoemakers.]

Right. An' these ones didn't even seem like the jokin' sort! They really looked like the kinda elves who just wanted to put ones an' twos on some people's plates. [Alas... In any case, she manages to smile as she turns her attention to the tree man who saved her. Finally, she has a name to match to the face!]

The name's Gina Lestrade! Nice to meet ya, Tree... Tra-Hairn! [The downside, it's not a name that's easy for her...]
