MINI EVENT: LEPRECHAUN MADNESS

PROMPTS

A. Pranks and misfortune. April Fool's is coming in a little early with one group of leprechauns with yellow caps running around causing pranks all over. From minor "shoelaces suddenly tied" to "paint falling from scaffolding," anything goes with them. In doing so, they are spreading some bad luck which can be countered a few ways. Those who participate in the pranking will be seen as an ally to this group and won't be pranked on. In addition, those who wear any amount of green on them will be spared from more severe pranks.

Finding good luck. Are you one of the unlucky souls who has been pranked? Try to find some ways to get rid of the bad luck that goes along with it by finding four leaf clovers, finding some rabbits that are willing to let you rub their feet, doing some good deeds around town, etc. As long as you believe it’ll help with the luck, it should work. But you have to actually believe that it will work.
Pranking around. Or perhaps you’re one of the ones doing the pranking in the first place! The yellow caps won’t stop you if you decide to join them in pranking people. The more pranking, the merrier!
Prank war.. For some, the best part of being pranked is retaliation. There’s nothing stopping people from escalating this into a full-on prank war. Counter pranking is welcomed and encouraged–just be aware that the leprechauns will escalate in their pranks as well.

B. Shoemakers. Another group of leprechauns sporting blue hats are hoping to start their own business in town, specifically in the shoe making and repair business. They are quite skilled in their work and will happily take custom orders so long as materials are provided as they start preparing more general stock for the ever growing populace. However some freshly are recruited apprentices are a bit too zealous in their work.

New shoes. New shoes are all the rage this month, and everyone is managing to snag a pair without even trying! How lucky! Or perhaps not so lucky. With or without permission, shoes are being redesigned and altered to a "flashy, fresh" new look, and while some are earnest in their endeavors to match the style to the owner, some take their artistic liberties to the extreme. To make matters more complicated, some even try to add some magic to give an extra "lift" to one's step. As in, making them fly or run fast. Some yellow caps are also interfering by casting bad luck on the shoes, making them more prone to trip, step on things, or making them feel too heavy to lift.
Stolen shoes. No craft is without its fans. And where there are fans, there are superfans who will go to any lengths to acquire a collection of trinkets to show off. These shoe superfans are grabbing shoes wherever they can find them: people’s homes, store fronts, right off of people’s feet. Whether a victim, someone trying to return the shoes, or trying to convince the over zealous fans to stop, it's chaos. To make matters worse, somehow this "superfan zeal" is contagious and if someone isn't careful, they might end up trying to join in the craze and take some shoes for themselves.

C. Pot-O-Gold. The green clad bearded men are well known for their greed, with legends telling of their gold kept in special pots that appear at the end of the rainbow. And what luck that rainbows are appearing all over the place with the weather! However, keeping their gold in special pots has its problems, especially when the rainbows they were hidden under decide to move around. Should favor be gained by these leprechaun, they may consider sharing their gold.

Catch the rainbow. The leprechauns are out looking for their pots of gold and are being quite aggressive about it, shouting at anyone who happens to have a rainbow above their homes or is playing in the colorful rainbows. Some rainbows are actually floating away with that pot of gold attached to it. How does one wrangle a rainbow? Hint, they like to stay in sunny, warm places.
Found a pot, now what? Should anyone stumble upon the pot, it's better to leave it alone or immense misfortune will fall upon them like a curse. What kind of curse will vary (ie, up to the player). Securing and helping the distressed leprechaun, on the other hand, will bring about immense wealth and will improve relations with this group. So what choice will the finder make? Just beware…being around the gold for too long might make them start feeling a little greedy.
Protect the gold! Alternatively, you can gain favor with the leprechauns by preventing other would-be treasure hoarders from carrying the gold away themselves. According to the leprechauns, the gold should be protected by any means necessary. Stop those thieves, or risk becoming one!!

D. Red Cones v. Red Caps. There is a smaller contingent of leprechauns who don special red coned shaped hats that can actually be used as a weapon. They prefer to live out on the edges of the Wildlands near the Cliffs, however the Redcaps have been bothering them and so they seek to recruit any who wish to help aid them in a glorious battle between the small men.

Recruiting fighters. In the name of wanting to be left the hell alone, the Red Cones are recruiting strong fighters who are willing to stand up to the Redcaps and convince them to stop their pestering once and for all. Taller fighters are especially in demand, all the better to tower over their enemies menacingly and whatnot.
Way of the Coned Hat. A select few fighters for the Red Cones will be trained in the secrets of their hat weapons. With the proper infusion of magical (read: dreamotion) energy and the proper incantation, they can be launched at enemies like tiny red rockets. The incantation varies from hat to hat depending on its owner, so players are encouraged to be creative with the magic words needed to set these projectiles flying.

[ He returns to his own work, and she'll hear the sound of the forge returning to life as he resumes. The sound of metal striking metal resounds in the smithy as he works on what appears to be a mock-up of a blade.

His reply is a question, clarifying for specificity. ]

What do you wish to know?

[Okay, fair. That was a vague question, mostly because she's not sure where to begin. She considers, then tries again,]

Armored as you are, you were a warrior as well, weren't you? Who did you fight for?

[A silly question, maybe, but it's probably best not to make any more assumptions about him.]

[ What a question to ask, although whether he is offended or interested in the question isn't indicated by any gesture or motion. Somnus brings the mockup of the blade onto an anvil. ]

For the future of the Star... It is that for which I fight.

[ His helm lifts, pointing in her direction. ] Is that not the same for any warrior clad in iron?

[She smiles faintly at that, not entirely sincere in her humour.]

Not every warrior.

[There'd been plenty of Renan knights who fought blindly for the ambitions of selfish lords. She'd seen far too many, and many more who died by their hand. It sounds very grand and honourable, but humans are far too complex to allow for black and white idealogy.]

[ The pause that follows is respectful, as if in acknowledgement of the more nuanced expression she wears. His tone, hollow through the metal of his armor, remains the same. ]

You speak of sellswords? Or conscription?

[ The need to call men to arms is indeed an old practice in times of war... although not the most accepted in the modern age. ]

[By the sound of it he has some experience with warriors who have varying motivation.]

Either one's a good answer. Some fight for the future of one star at the expense of another.

[ Somnus sets the mockblade down upon the anvil, and as his fingers uncurl from its hilt, the metal pops at the joints. Then he turns, facing her as if intentionally pausing his work.

Perhaps she's piqued his interest with the topic. ]

Now you speak of conquest... or desperation for resources. [ His helm tips slightly forward. ] I acknowledge these exceptions as well.

Mm. [No sense in denying the truth. It does sound a little more cynical than she'd like, though, so-] Most of the people I've met are fighting for more altruistic reasons, I'll admit. For the future, or for freedom, or even just to save someone else... there's plenty of warriors like you.

[For the future of the Star. She likes the sound of it.]

[ Without a worker to mold metal within it, the fire of the forge remains more like a hearth within the smithy. The light remains at a reddish-orange constant.

His tone, too, carries the same, hollow constant as he comments, continuing: ]

You note these exceptions, yet your armor is decorated. [ It's spoken as if he assumes such armor would come not on a mercenary or vagabond's side, but as a solider, conscribed or otherwise. ] For whom do you fight?

[She glances down, idly brushing a hand over one of the old emblems peppered over her armor. It's been months since they left Menancia, but she's never thought to remove the marks that signify her service. The thought of marring what gives her - or used to give her? - such pride is unbelievable. But she'd had the stone removed from her hand; are Renan symbols just as much a sign of ownership, or is this different?]

I... used to serve a lord. I've since left his service, but you could say I fight for the future of my world now, too.

[ He remains patient as she appears to contemplate her answer-- and the symbols on her own armor-- before she speaks. There is clearly significant history she carries with those designs. He does not inquire, for a solider still bearing an emblem of their service is not uncommon, even when kingdoms fall.

When she does answer, he allows a moment to pass out, perhaps out of respect for her statement. ]

Know this: what tribute you gave your sire, the future may demand more.

[That makes her frown, still thoughtful.]

What do you mean?

[ Magical suits of armor don't repeat themselves. Or elaborate, apparently, after something is said, and he raises a hand, palm raised, again as if to dismiss her question.

When that hand lowers, he asks this: ]

Envision your world at peace, warrior. What does that entail?

[His evasion doesn't go unnoticed, so she's adding that to her new list of "things Somnus is vague about" which she suspects will get very long.]

My world at peace... it's a complicated thing. The work doesn't end just because the fighting stops. It's been ruined by war for 300 years. Ideally, I want to see people learning how to work together, to help instead of harm. True peace won't come until every human being lives in equal standing, without the right or the power to persecute another.

[ His helm tips slightly up, then down, in acknowledgement of the future she envisions for her world. To this, he says nothing to disparage or doubt its idealness. Ideals and hopes can only bring one so far, however. ]

And the path to such peace?

Hard work, and cooperation between people who used to fight. The first step was freeing ourselves from those who oppressed us. Right now, we're trying to help those we freed learn how to live with that freedom. But soon we'll have to confront the oppressors, and make sure that history doesn't repeat itself. I hope that can be a peaceful resolution, but it's too complicated to know for sure.

[There's also the problem of getting to the Renans, but they're still figuring that one out.]

[ The mention of freeing themselves from their oppressors causes his stance to shift, as if coming to a quiet realization. He concludes, ]

You are from the same Star as Alphen of Dahna... and Shionne of Rena.

[ While it appears he has more to say, he stops here to allow her to correct him, if need be. ]

[She nods.]

I am. We traveled together, and fought the Renan lords who had enslaved the people of Dahna. Myself included.

[ It seems he's heard of their world, albeit a basic overview of their plight. This makes the fact that she wears armor of her former occupation all the more curious.

Now that the context is clearer, Somnus follows with this, circling back to something she had said earlier: ]

Battles do not come without expense.... But you have everything to lose, if you do not fight.

It's true. For a long time, most of us felt too powerless to do anything, and could only roll over and take the persecution life offered us. It was only through a few lucky circumstances that I ended up with the power to be of any use to others. Still, there were plenty of people who fought even without the advantages I have. I admire them... and I try to draw strength from their courage.

[ For a magically empty suit of armor, there are times when he appears more inanimate than not, such as now.

That is to say, he doesn't move as he replies. ] With such ideals to fuel your cause, you may yet usher in a new age. Will you lead this, all while still donning the armor displaying loyalty to a Renan lord?

[Ah. Is that what he was getting at? She hesitates, brushing her hand briefly over one of the emblems decorating her armor, then letting it drop.]

I wouldn't call myself a leader. My job is to protect and support, and in order to do that, I need quality equipment. I may have thrown away my position, but that isn't the fault of my armor. Besides... [She purses her lips, then turns away, sifting through the disorganized pile again.] It's a symbol of many important memories. I don't want to throw it away.

[ He inquires no further, perhaps not needing more information than that. The choice to wear it is hers.

And so Somnus straightens, turning his helm towards the forge once more, segueing into another topic. ]

It is of good quality. Mayhap we may construct something of similar caliber.

I wouldn't say no to that. What I have is sturdy, but it never hurts to have a back-up. There's some damage that can't be mended fast enough to face the next challenge.

Indeed. This realm does have its fair share of dangers, within and without dreams. It would be wise to be prepared.
