Romantic love seems like a pain in the ass though, in his observation. He doesn't know if it's really okay (or accurate or appropriate or fitting) for him to call some of the things he knows of that kind of "love", but at the very least there was affection, attraction (he guesses?) and a sense of connection, even if it might have been fabricated to some degree. But maybe that's why calling it "love" might be an insult to the whole concept of romance?
