⊗ a: quest 703: herding seagulls

[Those seagulls are definitely a damn nuisance, especially when they're around his and Tifa's house. He just wants some damn peace and quiet!! But he'll also be taking to the riverfront where most of annoying birds have gathered to join in the efforts in controlling the invasion.

Now, while he could just electrocute them with the abundant amount of lightning he can wield at this point, he will try to be more...humane and instead use two of his corgis to try and chase them off and work on a bit of wind element while he's at it.

So anyone out on the Riverfront will see Eustace calling out to two corgis—a red named Idris and a black and white with a tail named Cadoc—to essentially herd the birds. Some are just chased away, but if there's a large group Eustace aims to capture them.

Idris will rush at any groups that are scattered, driving them to fly closer together and knock them up into the air by the wind the dog's speed produces. Eustace will follow up by producing his own wave of wind to force them to fly and tumble closer to the ground before Cadoc releases a weighted net from a canister. For the most part, they're mostly successful, able to capture up to 10 birds in the net and then send them off to others who will either carry them to the beach or...cook them. Look he's not going to judge, even if it's not the tastiest thing.

But sometimes a few mishaps might happen...such as—]

[Someone either caught by Idris's wind blast, a stray seagull flying right into someone's face, or worse—there's a misfire from the canister and someone gets caught in the net instead.]

⊗ b: quest 704+5: ocean fishing

[Finding some amount of the materials isn't too difficult, particularly since he had to find some good wood for a piano... But testing a boat? Hmmm. Given that there are requests for some seafood, might be able to kill two seagulls with one harpoon.

1. Peace and Quiet. With whoever has decided to join him on this impromptu fishing trip, Eustace looks out on the ocean waters as they stay near the shallows for now.]

So far so good. The waters seem calmer out in the shallows so let's keep it simple and see what we find around here first before trying to go further.

[And what can they find...? From simple fish to curious squids to anything really.

2. Rough waters. But if things start getting rough, such as a large angry crab or really, really sticky seaweed that's trying to wrap around their oars or the boat itself, their boat might also start seeing a few cracks.]

⊗ c: quest 706: choya chop

[Eustace actually isn't here for the quest—around another time that he's trying to fish or exploring the are a little, he'll notice any chaos and commotion from anyone who is trying to do the quest—or just happened to accidentally piss off the choyas.

A crackle of lightning and a gunshot will ring out as he rushes in to aid, shouting when he sees those weird cactus things turning read and looking ready to burst.]

Get back, it's going to explode!

[At worst, if someone can't make it on their own, a sheet of ice will suddenly appear in front of them, acting as an impromptu shield that will block at least most of the carnage.]

⊗ d: teleporter and limiters follow-up (semi-closed)

[For those who answered Eustace's inquiry last month about creating some kind of teleporter doorway as well as power limiters, including use against nightmare energy, Eustace will be trying to follow up and see how things are going. It'll be a brief message, something along the lines of,

I'd like to follow up on our discussion regarding [___]. Let's meet at your earliest convenience.

With the [___] filled in for whichever topic they discussed.

Well, considering how it's possible to teleport with others in tow, I think there is a good chance that this may work the same way. We'll just need a destination in mind, though generally being attuned to an aetheryte is usually the reason why it works. If we can figure this much out, that would be a step in the right direction.

Only one way to find out... However, I have to ask—there's not a chance of our bodies somehow getting damaged or split, is there?

There's no worries of being split necessarily, but there is theoretically a way to be stuck in between the lifestream in a normal situation with aetherytes. Although, that's a fairly rare situation. That usually has to do with the situation of if the aetheryte the person is teleporting to happens to be destroyed before they arrive.

I can assure you that I have never heard of such a thing actually happening though. There is the possibility, but destroying aetherytes are fairly uncommon on its own. There has only been a few instances that.

Whether or not something like that will occur with these are still unknown, but I don't think the chances are likely.

Yeah only slightly worrying, but...]

Even if something similar were to happen, given that we're already an altered state of our original selves and can traverse through dreams, we'd likely be able to escape any "gap" in between via dreamwalking.

If that's all then I'm willing to test it firsthand. Pick a destination.

[If it makes him feel any better, the few instances have dealt with beast tribes because they wanted to be difficult or during the Calamity.]

I'm sure it will be fine. [For the reasons he listed.] My suggestion would be locations that people populate the most. Perhaps it better we try a location that won't trigger the revenyte I have in the marketplace, though? How about the Wildlands?

I would suggest the Corgi Tree, but you've never been there. [Hm.] What about the south exit, the one that leads to the lake?

I think that would work fine enough. All that's left is to give it a try.

[G'raha began to focus on the south exit whenever Eustace was ready to give it a try. He took the time to try to clearly envision his destination before attempting the teleport.

One moment they were there, the next they were gone! Success? Maybe? Or maybe not. Hey, is it just me, or is the water a lot closer to them than they thought?

The plus side is that nobody was harmed or taken by surprise by them popping in.

The bad side was that they were now taking a dip in the lake. Details.]

[Eustace begins focusing, clearly imagining that exit. The road, the buildings, the fences, even the fields just beyond it...

Yet somehow, instead of seeing the road, when he opens his eyes he sees water—]

—!!

[And KERSPLASH!! Into the drink they go. Quickly Eustace is able to swim back up with a gasping breath.]

[Once to the surface, he gasped for air, letting out a few coughs.]

Of course it can't be that simple... Did we overshoot?

[Not that he expected it to be easy, but less issues would be better...]

[Brushing back his hair, he quickly glances at G'raha, a little relieved to see he surfaced just as quickly before he looks back at their surroundings. Given the taste of the water had been more fresh and the brief glimpse he had before they fell in, he could quickly guess they were at the lake, but now the familiar surroundings confirm it.]

Possibly... Is it a problem of what we were thinking?

Hmm... It's quite possible. Before we ponder the possible reasons as to why it was incorrect, I dare say we should probably find dry land.

[They could try to attempt it again here, but this seemed like a less than desirable situation to do it in.]

[Fair enough.]

Luckily the shore isn't too far from here.

[And swim away they go until they reach the shore, where they can at least catch their breath and probably try to wring out their clothes a bit.]

Despite where we ended up... It was effective and worked.

[Once on shore, he was glad to rest on the ground for a moment, all while wringing out his clothing the best he could. He set aside some of the articles of clothing he could, setting his bracers, scarf, and vest off to the side after wringing them out.]

This does mean it's theoretically possible. It just needs more fine-tuning. Even if it was not the destination in mind, the fact that it worked at all is a step in the right direction. Now we need to just consider what went wrong.

Was the location too vague?

We could try to be more specific. If nothing else, we could rule out that as the cause if we end up elsewhere once more.

[But just where they end up next if that's the case? Hopefully they won't need to find out and it'll just work.]

I wonder if an actual landmark or structure would be a better choice to focus on?

[Hmm.]

A landmark might be good. When I was thinking of the location, I was imagining the street, the buildings, and the general thought that it was towards the lake.

[...Hm.]

Perhaps that last detail added to the confusion.

It's quite possible. I have not admittedly been to the lake much myself. What would be a good landmark to use?

[Hm.]

How about the outpost building stationed near it? The one that serves as a guard post of sorts.

Ah, yes. That should suffice.

[It was a specific enough thing to have in mind, after all. It was detailed enough, at least.]

[Once Eustace gives the okay, he attempted the teleportation once more, keeping the outpost in mind. All was (assumingly) going well until his mind wandered off the outpost for a split second while thinking if they'd land somewhere else completely again.

And just like that, though it was a mere moment, the teleportation went through well enough, but not without its complications as they ended up falling once more. Thankfully not a lake this time, but this was hardly better as he had to reach out for the closest branch of the giant tree they were falling through to catch himself.

When that failed and they didn't seem like they were going to land in the tree itself, he quickly pulled out his staff to break their fall with his levitation spell like he had once before at the Tower of Zot. Thank the Twelve that it was just the two of them this time.

Lying awkwardly in a bigger branch, nearly about to fall out completely, he looked around for Eustace.]

Are you alright?

[Outpost... Outpost... Perhaps it's due to Eustace's steadfast concentration that the tree they end up falling through is actually near their destination. But finding himself falling out of the sky and having to use everything in his skill, from reaching out to grab branches to shooting patches of ice for him to try and land or slide down on, is not something he wanted to ever experience. It's really fortunate that G'raha is able to use that levitation spell, and he's able to grab onto a branch and hang from it briefly before dropping down to a larger branch below, near the one G'raha is on.]

Somehow.

[Probably a few cuts, but nothing that can't be healed.]

Well, I could be better, but also much worse. We are... definitely getting closer.

[Pulling himself more on the branch to at least find his footing, he made his way down to solid ground. After a few more mishaps and random locations, they managed to make decent progress in their experiment. Having spent a good amount of time in their attempts, they finally decided to call it a day as they returned to their respective homes looking quite disheveled. Traces of leaves, dirt, and being waterlogged was sure to be an interesting sight.]
