What: The AA crew get together to try their luck with the spicy food challenge. Or to observe the struggling of others. Don't worry, we got a doctor on the scene.
Warnings: Fire

The Wild Harvest have setup a food challenge this month and the crew are having an impromptu get together to either try it themselves or observe. An area by the garden has been sectioned off for those to do the challenge, so damage control can be a bit more manageable. Some extra hands are definitely appreciated when, not if, a fire starts.

There's plenty of ice cream and floats to go around for those watching, along with the regular menu of course. Or maybe one could get some air walking around the garden, with plenty of critters from garden snakes to lotus koi fish, and an axolturtle wandering around somewhere. Take care not to feed the fish and turtle too much "junk" food, and good luck spotting the garden snakes as they are more on the shy side.

[He sets aside the jug of lotus milk, picking up a wash cloth to offer to wipe down the sweat.] I just want you to take one glance to your left.

[And when she does, she'll see ice cream being scooped up into a bowl by Susato.] That can be yours, in just a few more bites.

[She looks over, and there's practically sparkling snowflakes in her eyes as she looks at it.]

It... it's like a wintery wonderland, innit...!

[It just seems so magical and unreachable! But it's not. She turns her attention back to the dish, with renewed determination. Steeling herself, she stuffs the last noodles into her mouth! And chews, while her face grows redder than ever!]

One you'll experience soon enough. [He goes quiet as Gina takes the last of the noodles, waiting. She needed to finish it and not spit it back out.]

[It's like a pack of firey snakes are loose in her mouth! Water leaks from her eyes, down her tomato of a face, but she holds onto this determination. Something icy awaits! So she brings her teeth down with full force. Chewing, chewing, chewing. And then, she swallows, bringing the inferno down her throat.]

N-not... bad...

[She stammers weakly as she opens her mouth again... and a few small embers fly out with her breath.]

[Kazuma lets out some air he had apparently been holding in. She done it, finished her entire bowl. A small applause is in order.]

Well done! Give yourself a moment to gather yourself. Your reward is coming.

[ Spoilers: the ice cream is vanilla. They're quickly learning that scooping it into a bowl directly in front of the customer is a great motivator, and in this case, it seems to have worked for Gina! By the time she can hear Kazuma's congratulations, she has already adding on carefully-sliced strawberries for that bit of sweet flavor.

A grin. She'd clasp her hands together if she weren't holding onto that ice cream scoop. ]

You did it!

[ A moment later, she trades that scoop for a spoon, which she then sticks into Gina's bowl for her to use. ]

Here you are, then. Strawberries are my favorite, but if you'd like to add anything else, simply say the word.

[Gina looks like a weary traveler who has just spent a week in the desert without supplies. She radiates heat with every breath, still feeling the spice stinging every inch of her mouth.

As the ice cream is presented, her eyes widen with awe and follows the strawberry's path into the ice cream. Ice cream... It feels like a distant memory now, from the Time Before Spice. But here it is now, un front of her. Inviting her to relearn the comforting embrace of the cold!]

That... That'll do...

[That's all she can manage to say about the strawberry. She then grasps the spoon, gently lifts it from the ice cream, and... sets it to the side.

She then immediately jusy dunks her face into the bowl and starts to directly consume it all with a ferocious energy!]

[Well, can't say he blames her. A light chuckle escapes him as Gina fully embraces the ice cream.]

I think we might need another bowl of ice cream. [Could she eat as fast as it was melting due to the heat?]

[ Susato wasn't sure what to expect there when the spoon was set aside. Suddenly she's laughing as well, the happy sound bursting out of her in a giggle. ]

She is imitating Chief Inspector Toby. [ She's prepared to refill though! Hasn't put away that tub of ice cream yet. If Gina even looks up at all, surely there is a mess of white and red on her face. ]

[Steam rises from the bowl at the mixing of the elements! She... managed to eat a good chunk of it, but much of it did melt away from the heat.

She then pulls her head up, now decorated with splotches of melted ice crean.]

Y-yeah... That's me... A- a regular pup, I am... [She can barely even try to quip like this!

She pauses for a moment before she looks towards Kazuma.]

Yeah, more please.

[He grins, seeing her faced ice creamed up.] Here. This might help too.

[He pours her a cup of lotus milk. It may have been meant for those who failed, but lotus milk is still very effective in combating devil peppers.]

So, thought about a dish you want to see here, champ?

[ Susato doesn't say anything. Though Gina had been looking at Kazuma, Susato is the one with the ice cream, and she knows what to do. Gently, she reaches across the table to pull her bowl closer to her side. It's full of a creamy liquid, totally unrecognizable now as ice cream, but they'll fix that soon enough.

She slides a piece of cloth in its place for Gina to use to wipe her face, and meanwhile, she's refilling her bowl, watching and listening for Gina's answer. ]

[She gulps down the cup quickly and gives a relieved breath, now without any smoke. It seems the fire in her mouth has been extinguished for the most part, though the spicy aftertaste still feels like it's coating her mouth. Gina's less concerned with the state of her face, but she'll still dap at her face with the napkin and get some of the ice cream off while Susato prepares her next bowl.]

...Wot? [She blinks as she registers Kazuma's words.] ...Oh! Oh right. That... that's wot all this was s'posed to be about, ain't it? [She was focused more on the challenge than the actual prize...]

I dunno... All I can think of are cold things now. An' ya already make fish an' chips for me, so we already got that...

Is that so...? Well, you can tell me whenever you decide on something. [He'll just fill that glass again, just in case.]

How are you feeling?

[ After sprinkling the bowl with sliced strawberries once again, she pushes the bowl back towards Gina. She already has a cupcake lined up in Gina's name; she can't wait to see what else she might add by the month's end. ]

It may be difficult to taste much of anything for a while. [ Susato adds to Kazuma's question. Might have been more useful for Gina to know before the fact, but! Oh well. ]

[She nods slowly as she accepts the bowl. This time, she actually uses the spoon and eats at a more human pace.]

I... I feel okay. Feelin' a lot less like me mouth is burnin' up. It ain't there so much no more, but... I still feel the spiciness. I think all I can taste right now is the feelin' of 'ot an' cold... [She wearily admits in between scoops.]

That sure was sometin'! B-but... Still 'ad a nice taste to it.

Does it? Maybe we should consider using it in other dishes. In smaller quantities. [He adds, though he may just be joking about the whole thing.]

It'll pass, and know you're the first I've seen today to have completed the challenge.

[ Definitely smaller quantities... They'll have to experiment. For now, assuming Gina is satisfied, she'll grab two more bowls so that both she and Kazuma can have their share, too. ]

Yes, same here. You were remarkable, Gina!

[ Not to say she didn't think she could do it, but she would have never guessed the girl would've had any experience with spices or spicy food. Hmm. ]

Come to think if it... we should probably start a list. Keep track of those who have succeeded, as well as their suggestions.

Y-yes, please... much smaller ones now! [In a very small does, Gina feels like she could enjoy it without feeling like she's going to expire! Still, she manages to a smile as she takes in some more ice cream.]

Thanks, Sooze. I don't see wot was so special 'bout it. I was just eatin' is all! [She tries to downplay it confidently.] I'd be curious about wot that list would look like. ...An' I'd give 'em me sympathies.

Oh? Are you saying you could handle another? [He's teasing her. An appreciative glance when Susato returns unexpectantly with extra ice cream for the both of them.]

I get on that list once we have more who succeed.

[ She would love to see Gina tackle another, but for now, she'll just nod. Making a list to keep track of the challenge conquerors sounds exactly like the kind of assistant work she was made for. ]

Perhaps she can try the curry next time? As for what makes them so special... Well, the peppers come from the farmlands. Mr Asura...

[ Turning to Kazuma-- ] Isn't that right?

No! No more please! [She gains energy when it comes to shouting that out, before shoveling some more ice cream into her mouth.]

Oi, those must be some peppers. I never knew they anytin' could be that spicy!

[He nods to Susato to confirm. The moment of panic in Gina's voice has him put on an amusing grin.]

I wouldn't be surprise if they're not from an Earth world. [He watches her shoveling down the ice cream.] ....Maybe next time, we should have a cold eating contest.

[ Susato looks amused, too. Someday they'll have to find out more from him about where they grow. At the very least, soil quality doesn't seem to be an issue. She appears to perk up at Kazuma's suggestion. ]

Oh! For the winter, perhaps! Although... would that be inappropriate to consider when it is cold, or would it simply add to the challenge...? [ Maybe it would dissuade people from participating too much. ]

Oi, I wouldn't be s'prised if they came from 'ell itself... [She sighs, while going through the last of her ice cream.]

Gimme that ice cream contest right now, an' I'll blow it right away!
