π b. dreambucks
[Anyone who passes by Dreambucks for a drink or some food might see Beat huddled over a notebook all by his lonesome. A half-full iced milk coffee sits on the table, together with a BLT sandwich with a few bites in it.
Upon closer inspection, it seems like Beat has been working on a sketch in his notebook. It's hard to tell exactly what it is at this point and with how closely he is hovering over it. But there are a few other completed ones strewn across the table. One depicts a shark as if breaking water to devour its prey, another of graffiti with a few skull and skeleton motifs above it, and one last of a rough sketch of a t-rex-looking creature with parts of it depicted as decals rather than flesh. His red cellphone sits on top of the finished pages as if to hold them all down.
There seems to be loud music coming from his headphones, which he hums to and bobs his head to the beat. It doesn't seem like he's noticed whoever has come up to him just yet. What do?]
π c. quest 801: a windy day around reverein
[With the winds picking up, it's starting to seem like anything that isn't nailed down will likely take flight after getting caught up in the wind. In fact, it's a little hard to see things at times with all the dust blowing around.
But you catch this particular thing whizz by overhead. And it's quickly followed by Beat, who you might not have seen coming when you turned your head or tried to avoid what flew by. He accidentally shoulder-checks you and almost loses his balance, regaining it at the very last second.]
Yo! Sorry 'bout thatβ Was tryin' to catch theβ
[And when he looks back, whatever it was he was that was caught in the wind is missing from view.]
Where the hell did it go?!
[OOC: Feel free to make up whatever it is he might have been chasing. The more ridiculous, the better.]
π d. quest 803: a little spice will do you good
[Upon reading up that there was curry over at the Wild Harvest, he immediately made his way over there, not bothering to read the entirety of the post. Once he's made it there, he's already ordering said curry, again not looking at any of the signage advertising exactly what is in it or looking at the menu. It seems as if he is seated by himself, but man, is he looking excited. Practically like a child let loose in a toy store.
He turns to whoever is serving him.] I'mma get a curry, yo. Jus' one but I'm probl'ly gonna get another jus' so ya'll are ready.
Been jonesing for curry since I got here.
[And it shows. He already had his spoon ready in one hand even if the dish hasn't arrived yet.]
π e. wildcard
[Open to other prompts or ideas! He would also be up for kite gliding if you want to do that with him.
Feel free to hit me up on Discord (Riyuji#9693, just add me right away), dreamwidth PMs, or through my plotting post if there's anything you want to discuss prior!]

U-uhh! A-a-are y-you— a-are you a-all right?
[She didn't mean to fall on him but she's pretty red. Just gonna. Look away.]
S-sorry, that g-gust of wind w-was...
[She's pretty small, no wonder it knocked her over! The cranes have gotten themselves free, but are hanging nicely elsewhere. Taunting them. That has to be what they're doing now from the clothesline in that yard.]
Rrgh... I was s-so close, too...
no subject
Y-yeah, I'm aight. Jus' gimme a sec.
[It's lucky that Beat was too busy trying to get his bearings once more to see Futaba's embarrassment. He may not see where the cranes are right now but he did see her attempt to reach for it though.]
Naw, yo. You really did almost have. If it wasn't for the damn wind, you and me woulda gotten it already.
[But he doesn't dwell on that for too long. Finally ready to get back up, figuratively and literally, Beat pushes himself off the ground, jumping back onto both of his feet in one swift motion. It's not hard to see where the cranes have gone, the colorful papers fluttering in the air. Even if they look like they're easier to reach this time, there's no telling what might happen a second time around.
Turning to Futaba, he extends a hand to help her onto her feet.]
We got this, yo. You still with me?
no subject
Y-yeah! I'll get it th-this time! I hope...
[She is, if nothing else, determined, and they WILL get this senbazuru back to its rightful owner and not... taunting them in the wind like it is. Futaba will take his hand and pull herself up, dusting herself off, and looking around the area where the cranes are currently hooked on to.]
I-if we can s-scare them into a-a place we can c-catch them easier... m-maybe an a-alleyway? [Are there any around? Or just an alcove or a large doorway where it keeps the wind mostly out?]
no subject
Huh, aight, I gotchu. Maybe you an' me can even corner it so it got no place to run... Fly. Whatever, yo!
[Beat begins to look around. A short distance from the clothesline, he spots a tunnel, carved out from underneath a tree. There was enough space between the ends for the senbazuru to flit about for a while, but if they came at it from either end, they might be able to trap it. He points towards it to draw Futaba's attention there.]
How 'bout that one? Might work for what we wanna do. We jus' gotta figure out how to get it over there.
no subject
Since the wind k-keeps dying down, m-maybe we can run f-from cover to cover s-so we don't lose it a-again when it gets r-really windy?
[She's already plotting out a course in case the answer is yes here.]
A-and m-maybe we can a-approach from o-over there [pointing toward one end of the clothesline] and th-there [and behind it] so I-I can scare it t-toward you! Y-you're taller and all, th-there's more of you for i-it to run into!
no subject
Aight, so we split thereβ [He points to the bush a short distance from the tunnel that would give him enough cover to sneak in.] So you's can scare it in and I'mma be at the other end to catch it when it comes, right?
[Once she gives him the signal, he's ready to execute their plan.]
no subject
[Futaba balls up her fists to get psyched up— and to give herself confidence here— before her mark to move. Once they're moving, she watches Beat to make sure he's in where he should be, before focusing her attention on the senbazuru. She's pretty nonchalant about it as the cranes shake warily as if watching her every move, but once she's behind them...]
Geeet outta heeeere!
[Her sudden shout flusters the cluster of cranes, and she chases it as best she can in the wind toward where Beat is in the totally-will-lead-them-to-Totoro tree tunnel.]
Incomiiiiing!
no subject
Then he hears it, Futaba's voice scaring the senbazuru towards him. The cranes flutter in the wind toward the tunnel and he sees it before he hears Futaba's announcement.
He kicks off against the ground and runs towards it faster than anyone might expect, arms immediately closing it around it. The cranes flap their wings with whatever dreamotion energy they have left.]
Jus' quit fighting', yo! You ain't goin' nowhere!
[Strings snap and a line of them fall to the ground. Unable to free itself it expends the last of the dreamotion it had before falling limp in his arms.]
...That it? Did it finally run outta juice?
[Beat doesn't let go of his grip on the senbazuru, not until he's absolutely sure it won't make another attempt at an escape.]
no subject
Luckily it goes toward the tunnel, and as she turns the corner she skids to a stop to avoid slamming into Beat and crushing the cranes. The wind makes her teeter a little, but not enough to fall flat on her face (luckily.)]
I-is the dreamotion g-gone? D-did we do it?!
[The line of cranes that had fallen flutter a little, but it looks as if it had wanted to rejoin its folded paper brethren, not so much get away.]
Aw, I-I think they're sad. [so she'll kneel down next to them to start scooping them up] Th-the person who made this sh-should be able to fix it i-if we collect all of them!
[But now to traverse the winds without losing their paper cranes...]
no subject
I think it's gone, yo.
[There are a few that are crushed from how tightly Beat had been holding on, but most of them still remain intact. He looks over to where the other lines of origami snapped, counting five or six threads scattered around the tunnel. His grip moves over to the top of the strings of cranes.]
If they're sad, d'you think we just gotta make 'em come to us?
[The closest string even tries to fly closer to the bunch in Beat's hand, but ends up crawling against the ground instead.]
If we got 'em all, we can prob'ly return 'em then.
no subject
[Luckily the most happening in the tree tunnel is some paper fluttering and having them being pushed back as opposed to them being caught in the big gusts outside of their sanctuary. Grabbing the ones that had broken off or got a little crunched is fairly easy compared to chasing the whole thing down in not-quite-tornado weather!
Once she has them in hand, some reattached to their rightful strings, she nods toward the exit.]
Th-there should be some s-safe zones out there, just s-so we don't lose these again. R-ready when you are, Beat!
no subject
[He begins making his way out the tunnel, the cranes already fluttering restlessly in his hand because of the wind. It's a good thing Beat hadn't left the owner of the colorful origami birds too far away, lest they risk another episode of them being blown away by another gust of wind.
Speaking ofβ]
Jus' stay behind me so ya don't go flyin' off or nothin'. Wouldn't wanna haveta chase you down too.
[Beat doesn't even hide his laugh as he teases Futaba. And as soon as she is ready, he runs alongside her outside, ducking behind cover during particularly strong gusts and running out during pockets of stillness. Futaba might even feel a bit of a speed boost coming from Beat as they dash towards their destination.]
no subject
[A gust does float her up a little, but it drops her on her feet just as quickly as it tried to Dorothy her away. Okay, okay point taken. With some of the wind blocked by Beat's larger form, it should make for an easier trek back for her.]
F-fine, maybe I-I am! Y-you don't have t-to tease me!
[But he's pretty good at hitting cover before big gusts, and... hmm, she's feeling faster, lighter on her feet. Huh! He's already got his dreamotion down, huh?! Her own that she'd been practicing would be pretty useless here, but she'll really need to learn it now. Can't be outdone here.]
A-are we getting c-closer?
no subject
[Before they get there, the sound of tinkling glass fills the air as another gust blows past. Beat holds tightly onto the curtain of cranes in his hand until the winds die down.
The two are greeted by a small mushroom house spouting by the side of a tree. The stalk serves as the entrance of the home, the exterior decorated by glass-blown wind chimes hanging from strings around the edges of the mushroom cap at different heights. Coming up to the door, Beat raps his knuckles against the wood. Before long, it opens and they are greeted by a gnomish woman with wild green-blond hair.
"Oh, it's you!" Their eyes quickly move over from the two at her doorstep towards their prize in hand.
Beat grins cockily back at the gnome, just glad that he and Futaba were able to return their hard work to her.]
Hell yeah, we did! Had a bit a' help from Shorty here. Couldn'ta done it without her. [He nudges his head towards Futaba at his side as he hands over the senbazuru to the gnome.] Sorry if some a' em look a little squished, yo. I ain't 'sactly great with dealin' this kinda thing.
