1. Network - part 1
sender: alphen
subject: fighting
So I can't pass up an opportunity to get stronger. Out in the Wildlands there's a lot of powerful monsters just waiting to be discovered.
I don't plan on going out there alone. I'd like to bring along someone who can fight that way we increase our chances of victory. There's strength in teamwork and unity. I still want to believe in that.
If you can't fight but you still want to come along that's okay. Just be careful out there. There's some preparations I need to make. I'll be at the lake waiting for the others later.
2. Action - the outer range
[Even if Alphen's technically on vacation and away from the smithy he still wants to support it and he's very dedicated to his work. He was hoping to find some rare materials to upgrade the workshop as well. It's important for him to go scouting for metals. It's dark so it's difficult to discern the amount of danger through sheer instinct alone. With one wrong step it'd be easy to get hurt. The hallways are narrow and it's difficult to navigate through. He's thankful that he at least came in here with some preparations beforehand.
There's still danger in lurking beneath. A strange mysterious grumbling noise can be heard and nothing good can come from it. A monster lies in wait for those trespassing into the cavern. Alphen fully intends to take any monster head on and he readies his sword out for a fight. ]
Do you want to make a run for it? I'll distract him.
[He doesn't want to put anyone in danger. Alphen thinks he can manage a fight on his own if he has to. His sword is drawn and ready. ]
3. Action - the cliffside
[There's a fire burning outside. It's just an ordinary cooking fire Alphen prepared so he could relax with company. He's tired after a long day of traveling and adventuring. Now's the perfect time to prepare a meal! He's more than eager to use some exotic spices in recipes. Alphen went out of his way to cook some curry, but be warned. The intensity of spice is strong enough to be overbearing. Instead of looking concerned, Alphen just looks really excited. He's practically beaming with joy at the sight of his curry. Alphen can just be a tad strange. It's nothing he's not used to however.]
Wow! I've made a good meal this time. The blend of spices is just right and eating this should keep you full for the rest of the day. If you're feeling hungry feel free to help yourself.
[There's an entire pot of hell curry waiting to be eaten by someone. ]
4. Action - around the lakes
I can help you learn how to fight. Have you done this sort of thing before?
[ Alphen did promise that he'd try his hand and help others learn how to fight. He has a bunch of training weapons out for anyone to try. They're neatly arranged on a table
that's easy enough to spot. If you feel ready for combat there's a few training dummies made out of straw just waiting to be used. He isn't sure if he'll be a good sword instructor or not but he figures it'd be worth a shot. Alphen would hate it even more if he sat around doing nothing so he might encourage you to pick up a weapon or do some warm up exercising. ]
It might be a useful skill to have so it's worth learning how to use a blade for the right reasons.
5. Network - part 2
sender: alphen
subject: magic
Is anyone else still having trouble with dreamotion? I struggled with it for a while until I figured something out so you aren't alone.
Magic is just something my people aren't used to doing. I'd also like to ask about magic in your own world and how it might be useful.
If the words Astral Energy mean anything to you come speak to me, thanks.

He pauses beside it, giving an experimental sniff. It does smell good, but the intensity of the spice is apparent even from where he stands. Alphen cooks often enough at home and had done so frequently during their previous travels, and so Dohalim is quite used to his level of spice, but even then, this curry seems to stand on its own.]
It smells... quite powerful. Delicious, certainly, but have you tried something new with the spice blend...?
no subject
[ There's nothing quite like Alphen when he's freaking out over spice. He's so excited and his eyes are sparkling with enthuisiasm. It's one of his favorite meals.
]
They've got all kinds of stuff. You've gotta check it out. It'd be a waste to not eat it all.
[ He's eating curry like it's not a big deal but it could be more spicy than normal. It always is. ]

The Wildlands do seem to have a great deal to offer. As ever, we are discovering new things in this world every day, it would seem.
[He does help himself to a bowl and ladles some curry into it with care, giving it a long, discerning look before reaching for a spoon.]
Of course, I would not think to waste this meal you worked so hard on— thank you for your efforts.
[Kisara has taught him better than that. You don't waste food, and you always show appreciation to the chef. Steeling himself, he takes an experimental bite.
That is...]
... it certainly is strong. Do we— have water on hand?
no subject
[He offers a big smile. Alphen's unusually cheery but he's trying very hard to hide his internal suffering. ]
I couldn't dream of wasting food. Back when I was living in Calaglia it was a luxury to even a meal this extravagant. We tried to make the most of it but it was still rough.
[The Renans wouldn't just let them do whatever they wanted. They kept living under tyranny which is why Alphen even took up the Blazing Sword in the first place. ]
no subject
[He gives an easy smile in response— formality is his default, quite often, even among people he considers himself to be quite close to, but he could make an effort to break the habit, he supposes.]
I am glad your situation has changed— for a number of reasons, of course, but I agree with your viewpoint on wasting food. I am ashamed to think of how much I have likely wasted in the past, but I would not think to do so now; our travels together taught me better.
[Eating grass at times to stretch every gald as far as they could... how could he forget? Food is a precious resource.
Also, help, his mouth is ON FIRE.]
no subject
[He still smiles with anticipation as he eats more curry. ]
Are you alright over there? Have some water before you choke on something.
[He hands Dohalim a glass of water to rinse it down.]
no subject
[Not that he can achieve that end alone— but when he comes from, they've already achieved it together, and he has every intention of ensuring their hard-won peace is maintained.
His face is bright red by the time Alphen hands him that glass of water, and he offers a nod of thanks as he takes it, his voice cracking just slightly when he responds.]
Ah, thank you— that should— it should help.
[He closes his eyes and drinks it down all in one go. Phew.]
I thought I had become used to your way of spicing things, but this is even more powerful than usual...
no subject
[He likes it so much he wants to take more back home.]
This sort of thing isn't so bad once in a while.
no subject
[He would be, of course. With his dulled taste buds, Alphen has ever been a fan of spice and intense flavors.
He exhales softly after taking another long pull from his water. Much better.]
I think I prefer a more subtle flavor, in general, but this dish is uniquely yours— quite good, of course.
