1. Network - part 1
sender: alphen
subject: fighting
So I can't pass up an opportunity to get stronger. Out in the Wildlands there's a lot of powerful monsters just waiting to be discovered.
I don't plan on going out there alone. I'd like to bring along someone who can fight that way we increase our chances of victory. There's strength in teamwork and unity. I still want to believe in that.
If you can't fight but you still want to come along that's okay. Just be careful out there. There's some preparations I need to make. I'll be at the lake waiting for the others later.
2. Action - the outer range
[Even if Alphen's technically on vacation and away from the smithy he still wants to support it and he's very dedicated to his work. He was hoping to find some rare materials to upgrade the workshop as well. It's important for him to go scouting for metals. It's dark so it's difficult to discern the amount of danger through sheer instinct alone. With one wrong step it'd be easy to get hurt. The hallways are narrow and it's difficult to navigate through. He's thankful that he at least came in here with some preparations beforehand.
There's still danger in lurking beneath. A strange mysterious grumbling noise can be heard and nothing good can come from it. A monster lies in wait for those trespassing into the cavern. Alphen fully intends to take any monster head on and he readies his sword out for a fight. ]
Do you want to make a run for it? I'll distract him.
[He doesn't want to put anyone in danger. Alphen thinks he can manage a fight on his own if he has to. His sword is drawn and ready. ]
3. Action - the cliffside
[There's a fire burning outside. It's just an ordinary cooking fire Alphen prepared so he could relax with company. He's tired after a long day of traveling and adventuring. Now's the perfect time to prepare a meal! He's more than eager to use some exotic spices in recipes. Alphen went out of his way to cook some curry, but be warned. The intensity of spice is strong enough to be overbearing. Instead of looking concerned, Alphen just looks really excited. He's practically beaming with joy at the sight of his curry. Alphen can just be a tad strange. It's nothing he's not used to however.]
Wow! I've made a good meal this time. The blend of spices is just right and eating this should keep you full for the rest of the day. If you're feeling hungry feel free to help yourself.
[There's an entire pot of hell curry waiting to be eaten by someone. ]
4. Action - around the lakes
I can help you learn how to fight. Have you done this sort of thing before?
[ Alphen did promise that he'd try his hand and help others learn how to fight. He has a bunch of training weapons out for anyone to try. They're neatly arranged on a table
that's easy enough to spot. If you feel ready for combat there's a few training dummies made out of straw just waiting to be used. He isn't sure if he'll be a good sword instructor or not but he figures it'd be worth a shot. Alphen would hate it even more if he sat around doing nothing so he might encourage you to pick up a weapon or do some warm up exercising. ]
It might be a useful skill to have so it's worth learning how to use a blade for the right reasons.
5. Network - part 2
sender: alphen
subject: magic
Is anyone else still having trouble with dreamotion? I struggled with it for a while until I figured something out so you aren't alone.
Magic is just something my people aren't used to doing. I'd also like to ask about magic in your own world and how it might be useful.
If the words Astral Energy mean anything to you come speak to me, thanks.

Speaking of habits, his instinct upon hearing the creature within the cave is to hang back and reach for the Sheikah slate -- unfortunately, still in the Princess's possession. Perhaps he forgets, even now, that he's not fighting alone, that he doesn't have to sneak and surprise an enemy in order to bring it down. His eyebrows lift at Alphen's offer, and slowly, he shakes his head. Rather than a bow --his usual second choice-- he draws his sword and shield.]
Together. On three?
[Teamwork, right? It's not always Link's strong suit, anymore, but he's no stranger to it.]
no subject
[Alphen takes out his blade and strikes with full force when it's time to attack. His blade clashes with a deep clang and sparks fly from it. He might not have the Blazing Sword here but he can still fight just as well without it. The power of the Blazing Sword is only something that he can use when Shionne is around but since she's not in Reverein that ability is lost. ]
Hey, are you okay?
[He's fine but he just wants to make sure Link's hanging in there alright. It's not easy fighting and it can't be any easier to do it with this kind of terrain. Alphen's going to try his best to watch Link's back and protect both of them from any incoming enemies.]
no subject
He ducks to the side to avoid an incoming strike, and follows with a counterattack, slicing through through thick pelt and muscle.]
So far. You?
[He does his best to watch Alphen's back, too -- two sets of eyes means fewer opportunities for blind spots.]
no subject
[Alphen tosses something at Link that's like a magical crystal. It has some healing properties to it. If Link had any injuries from earlier the pain should be going away. ]
I don't know how long we have to keep fighting we have to stay strong!
[ He at least figured out how to manage magic catalysts. Something like this would have been beyond his skill level months ago. Alphen spent some time practicing with it because he knew it would be useful in battle.]
no subject
Thank you.
[For a moment, he manages to steal a curious glance at Alphen. Did he make this? Is such a thing really possible? --Then, movement, from the corner of his eye, and he raises his sword to parry.]
I see two more over here. Any others?
no subject
[Alphen takes out his sword and the nearest enemy with an upward slash. He's proficient in combat from being a soldier on the battle field. So fighting comes naturally to him as breathing does. ]
This is just the sort of thing that'll get my blood pumping! Let's go!
[He's way too eager to fight. ]
no subject
[When was the last time he fought like this, side by side with an ally? Since the Calamity? No, perhaps not; since then, his strategy has become focused on picking enemies off one by one. Divide and conquer. There's something about the rush of a real battle that brings him back to his days as a Knight. Gets the blood pumping, as Alphen says.
Goddess. That's something Daruk would say, isn't it?]
Stay back a moment.
[Thinking now of the Champions, he holds out his shield and slams it into the nearest enemy, pushing it forward into several of its friends. Will this even work here? It's hard to say for sure. He readies his sword, takes a slow, steadying breath, and swings it in a wide, sweeping arc. For one agonizing second, nothing seems to happen...and then lightning traces the path of the blade, striking down the group of them.]
no subject
[Alphen gives Link some space and jumps back leaving sufficient room for their fight. He's used to working with others because he's been fortunate to have comrades by his side during the Dahnan rebellion. ]
Damn, that's so cool. Are you using dreamotion?
[How's he doing this??? It might be completely original abilities too. In that case, Alphen would find them even more impressive. He knows a skilled fighter when he sees one. ]
no subject
I think so, [he responds after a moment. If dreamotion can change and augment abilities a person has used before...that must be what it was. How might this affect the other Champions' abilities? He'll have to explore that idea sometime. For now, the battle is not over yet, and Link surveys their surroundings.]
One more. Ready?
[It's going to take quite a while to collect materials from all these creatures when they're done.]
no subject
[Just one more monster and they'll be out of the woods. Alphen's really glad that he was able to fight alongside Link. It'll be that much easier for them to win. Honestly, he wasn't even sure if he could take these things on alone but he might have been able to manage something with his blade. It's reassuring to have Link here. ]
Dragon Swarm!
[ He unleashes a sword arte technique to blast their enemies away. It's one of his more powerful artes so he's really trying to put strength behind his blows. ]
no subject
That was amazing.
[Having taken a moment to make sure it really is dead, he finally sheathes the Master Sword, taking a moment to catch his breath now that the battle is won.]
Any injuries?
no subject
[No, he's not fine. Alphen's just gritting his teeth together and bluffing through his breath. He's been pushing himself way too hard since Shionne woke up. He seems to have nothing more than a scratch and a few minor injuries but he's still brushing it off as inconsequential. ]
We have to keep going. I don't want to slow you down.
[He thinks he can take it because he's been through worse. Back in Calaglia he endured many hardships so taking a few scratches isn't much to him.]
no subject
Here-- I want to try something.
[Sorry, Alphen, you're not getting out of this so easily. And...you're also going to be a guinea pig for now. If Urbosa's Fury worked differently with dreamotion...perhaps Link could channel some of Mipha's abilities through the power she lent to him, as well. He holds up one hand, thinking of her as he tries to activate the ability. Her patience and kindness, her desire to keep the people she cared about safe from harm...
A warm light fills the air. Unlike Mipha's Grace, this power does seem to have the ability to heal others, though Link won't know how much unless Alphen tells him. It may not make him any less tired from pushing himself, but maybe it'll help.]
no subject
[Alphen lets out a deep sigh of relief. He smiles because of Link's consideration and compassion. He's actually a really nice and friendly person, isn't he? Alphen's glad for that.]
Thank you for helping me. I should be able to keep on moving because of you. Is that dreamotion?
[That's a really impressive ability too. It seems like Link can just do anything if he puts his mind to it. ]
no subject
Mostly. Based on abilities of friends back home... [Borrowed ideas. It's complicated. He has little doubt, now, that he could make the other Champions' abilities work with dreamotion, and while he's curious about how he might explore that...he also feels a small measure of guilt, thinking of the Princess and her struggles with it.]
I'd like to collect some materials from them. [He gestures at their fallen foes, pulling a small bag out of his pack.] Is there anything you want to take back?
no subject
[ The smithy seems to be doing relatively well. Alphen did take some time off work but it wouldn't hurt to help out every now and then. ]
Do you like swords?
[ Link seems to have some experience with weapons himself.]
no subject
It seems a lot less savage when they just sort of appear off of dead foes in game, but dang.]
I suppose, yes. They're my preferred weapon.
[He suspects he feels less strongly about them than Alphen might, though.]
no subject
The craftsmanship on your sword is excellent. I'd like to know more about you and your sword.
[Link's got a cool blade and Alphen's joy over weapons is noticeable. ]
no subject
[He sounds a little uncertain, though. It feels strange, taking praise for something that isn't really his to take. It was forged by the Goddess, its history lost to time over many generations...but he does feel some attachment to it, all said.]
Are you a blacksmith?
[Alphen isn't the only one who wants to learn more about their companion.]
no subject
[ Alphen just nods. ]
When I first came to this world I didn't know what to do with myself so I figured I'd try learning a new skill. I've been down here for almost a year so I can at least say I'm using my time wisely.
no subject
He can't say he doesn't understand; in fact, the opposite seems more truthful. Even with someone here to protect, Link feels the restlessness set in rather easily. Maybe that's why he's here in the first place. It's hard, when you're used to travel and fighting. He wonders how much of that might ring true for Alphen as well.]
Sounds like you're used to having lots to do.
no subject
[Thinking about that just makes him sad. ]
I just have a lot to think about if I let it catch up to me so I'd rather be occupied. Do you know what that feeling is like?
no subject
At home, I was always traveling, so it's hard to stay in one place.
[Is he running from his thoughts, then? From the things he's never had to think about? Perhaps it's inevitable that he'll have to face them eventually, especially here.]
no subject
[Maybe Alphen's just trying to make himself feel better by engaging in small talk. It might help to get to know Link more too. ]
I figured you might have a story or two you have that's worth telling.
no subject
I'm happy to share, but...most of it was just fighting monsters.
