[open] somnus & YOU; interactive dream
Who: somnus and you
Which: Interactive Dream, just one, open
What: ITS SPOOKS SEASON NOW so
Warnings: themes of shadow/darkness but emphasis on moving forward. also dreamotion practice.
[ The dream manifests from the depths of sleep and memory, shadow and void, and you may find that the moment gravity recalls its function, your form touches down onto the smooth, cool surface of black marble. The stone base outstretches before you in a long, solitary path, and before your feet is a single gold-and-black metal epitaph with the numeral I on it. A short way ahead, another II marks another epitaph upon the ground. Beyond that, a III, with the rest remaining obscured by distance alone. Whether this pattern is an arbitrary count or a warning for something more, the dream gives no other indication, perhaps purposefully stripped of any further design.
While no walls line the path, it seems you cannot stray from it. Despite the apparent vastness of the hall, all sounds are cut short, swallowed by the overwhelming pitch of blackness beyond, blanketing all in mournful silence. The only other curiosity the dream holds is the faint scent of wheat, of harvest carried by a crisp breeze, that seems to originate from far down the hall.
Somnus is there beside you as you appear within this dream of his, and in acknowledgment, he dips his helm in your direction. There are but two options: force an exit with the practice of dreammotion or proceed. For now, however: ]
Let us walk.

Let us walk.

[Alphen seems a little better after taking some time off from the smithy. He seems to be at his usual mood. This must be another dream but Alphen isn't sure what's going on in it. He just nods and agrees to walk with Somnus for the time being.]
Kinda feels weird not seeing you at the smithy but hey I'm still here and kicking. Let's walk.

[ And so they begin to walk down the path, passing the first two numerals. So far, nothing peculiar happens.
The last time they had met, Alphen had been in a morose state, needing some time to himself to sort out his personal affairs. Courtesy due, Somnus inquires: ]
How are you faring?
no subject
[ There's no use stressing himself to death over it. Alphen does seem more willing to talk too because he's had time to figure out his own feelings. ]
How about yourself?

Somnus raises a hand, tapping against one of the invisible "walls" that line the hall. ] It appears they remain unbreakable. [ ...On his part, because they are built by his subconscious. Alphen is free to attempt to break them, though. ]

[It's hard to not think about the giant suit of armor, honestly. ]

He takes another step, and they pass another epitaph upon the ground. IV, V, and VI. Somnus test the wall again as if this section of it would be weaker than before. ]
Perhaps you will have better luck.
no subject
[ It'd be better for Somnus if they can leave from this sooner than later. To that Alphen nods. ]
Somehow I doubt that but hey, we should stick together anyway. I'm not going to leave you behind.

Once he passes another ephitaph, then another, two new figures manifest from the darkness outside. Standing as tall as Somnus and bearing the similar, elaborate armor, one phantom bears a trident; the other holds an axe.
As Somnus passes they bow their helms, but do nothing more. ]
no subject
[That was wasted effort. Dreamotion is the only way to get things done in a dream.]
Do you feel comfortable enough to use dreamotion magic in your own dream?
no subject
[ To no avail.
Somnus stops walking, though, when Alphen mentions using dreamotion itself to wake from the dream. ]
....Let us attempt to wake.

[Alphen conjures up fire dreamotion magic and uses it to burn away some of these walls. It might be a while before it starts to take any effect or maybe it does nothing at all. He doesn't know what Somnus dream is like. ]
We've got to leave this place and head back to the smithy. I know you'd be happier there than you would over here.
no subject
The question is how.
And so he appears to fall into a trance, lifting his arms to cross over his massive, metal chest, his helm tipping down in concentration. Alphen's fire flickers brilliantly in the darkness, a ward within the void that appears to cause the swirling shadows to retreat from the area; as the walls begin to melt in the presence of the flames around them, that is when Somnus acts:
Using dreamotion-- specifically, the emotion best related to the frustration of being trapped within his own dream-- the flame grows strong. No only do cracks appear along the walls of the hall, but the dream itself, signifying their break into reality. ]

[ He thinks it's rude to go into someone's dream uninvited. Alphen's going to act like he saw nothing and not question it further. ]
That looks like an exit. Let's hope it leads someplace safe.
[ Alphen isn't really sure where it will lead. He'd rather take his bets and leave through their newly made exit. ]
no subject
You have my gratitude. Let us leave this dream.
[ And with that, they will succeed, the two of them "waking" of their own according, having found a way out as designated by the dream. ]
no subject
[At least they can leave this place at long last. Somnus should be waking up from it anytime soon. Alphen at least hopes that'll be the last of it. ]
It's good to have you around, friend.
