[OPEN] Thanksgiving in Reverein (2022)

What: Open mingle log for anyone wanting to attend the Thanksgiving dinner Alastor advertised on the journals the day before
When: Forward-dated to November 23rd between noon and 6PM

Starting at noon and ending at six PM, The Wild Harvest had a few tables pushed together and covered by white tablecloths. Atop the tables were stacks of plates along with large serving trays full of food that had been promised in the invitation Alastor had put out the day before.

Also as promised, there were two extra tables added to the end, a stack of small slips of paper and a few pens. There was a little sign as well:

Please write your dish's name along with your own on one of the provided slips of paper. This way we can get any empty serving dishes back to their original owners.

Aside from the tables occupied by food, there were plenty of seats for people to sit down to eat at whether they wanted to mingle or to dine alone. A far nicer setup than the plaza the previous year.

[ Pauses mid-chew, glancing at the dish that was Not Meant To Be, then back at him. ]

You're really trusting me after seeing all that?

My dear, I may have lived during a time period when it was customary for the wife to cook dinner for when her husband got home from work, but I'm more than aware of the changing times on that front. For better or for worse.

[Seriously, some days it seems like the ladies screwed themselves over from his perspective.]

However, even back in my day, it wasn't a bad idea for someone to learn to cook and be able to feed themselves. Creator knows it made it easier to get by when the stock market crashed back in '29. I see no reason why you can't learn a few simple things so you're not entirely reliant on establishments like this. [He gestures to the rest of the Wild Harvest.] People come and go through Reverein all the time, so such a fine establishment isn't guaranteed to last.

[ She's just going to empty that whole plate he's holding at this rate. Nomnomnom. ]

Well, the only reason I give half a chimera's booty about cooking and baking is that I wanna be able to treat my boys. Dunno if I mentioned it before, but I'm a mom, and I have a lot of birthday cakes to make up for. My first attempt was... not great. As you can probably imagine.

[Okay, he's going to take the plate away. Everybody is supposed to enjoy them, not just you.]

No, I don't think you've mentioned it. [He tilts his head curiously to one side.] What happened?

[ Heyyy. Give iiit. She tries to reach for the pastries again, while still talking casually. ]

To make a long story short, I tried to make up for ten years of missed birthdays and holidays into three cakes. One kid went into a sugar explosion, and another's stomach barely made it out alive.

I meant why did you miss so many birthdays?

[And, nope, keeping that plate out of reach.]

My dear, you need to leave some for others to enjoy, too.

[ She makes a few more attempts at plate-snatching before giving up. ]

Yeah, we have not bonded enough for you to unlock my tragic backstory. Right now, all you need to know is I wasn't a great mom, but now I'm trying to make up for that.

... And I need energy to do so.

[ so hand over the goods!!! ]

[Alastor shrugs.] Fair enough! For now. Can't say I'm not curious.

[He gives a mischievous grin.]

You could sample your own creation.

Boo, you stink.

[ She sticks her tongue out, then turns around, hands in her pockets. ]

All right, all right, I'll go wait at the table for dinner like a good girl.

It's more buffet style, so you can take as much or as little as you please. However, that doesn't mean I have to enable you stealing all the beignets.

[He smirks down at her. Obviously, there's nothing he can do about it if she decides to take the platter once he's back in the kitchen and they both know it.]

[ Luckily for everyone involved, Della does know how to behave and share. Most of the time. ]

Then it's all the more reason for you to teach me how to make 'em, so I can keep my own batch all to myself.

But of course! Though I'm afraid that has to wait for a later date. Right now I've got my hands a bit full, and I should be heading back to the kitchen. Have a good time, dear!
