[10] baby... kurisumasu daze 🎄

Who: Anyone!
Which: Open mingle log
Where: The Wild Harvest in the Residential District.
What: The holidays are here! This is a place where dreamwalkers can retreat during the month of December (and beyond) for a quiet, festive experience away from the crowds.
Warnings: None?/TBD (Gumdrops are in season.)

The Wild Harvest has been open almost a year now, welcoming patrons from all walks of life with unique dishes every month inspired by both Eastern and Western Earth culture—sometimes beyond. This month, the coming holidays have made the atmosphere homey and warm, simmering with excitement around every corner; and while it is never overwhelming, it is clear to anyone who observes that Christmas is here.

I. Deck the Halls

a.) Along with usual vines of yellow, brightly lit moon-shaped fruit strewn about, there are ornaments with holes in them hung around the restaurant and garden. Some have been decorated by staff; others have small critters taking residence inside for a quick snooze, from young snakes to noodle dragons. Try not to disturb them too much if they're asleep!

Aside from the small critters, the mistletoe gumdrops are also back in season. They are still a menace, and these creatures also fit inside these ornaments: red, white, and pink alike, so be careful! What you might find may not be so harmless.

b.) A small station has been set up for those who wish to decorate their own ornaments to take home or hang in the restaurant. There is a variety of material including paint, flowers, markers, crayons, and glitter along with colorful paper where patrons can draw, write a message, a Christmas wish—anything they want! If they are able to flag down Susato, they can even learn how to fold origami (her specialty is cranes). There is popcorn for making garlands (or for eating), as well as colorful tinsel that can be looped around the Christmas tree or around banisters and door frames to add to the festive atmosphere.

Patrons are also invited to craft their own Christmas star and personalize it however they wish with all the decorations, bells, and whistles.

The staff will do their best to keep the area tidy, but make sure to clean up after yourselves where you can! (Susato would appreciate it...)

» BONUS: Reach for the Stars! Patrons will be encouraged to enter their star in a special contest as part of the Harvest's special quest to find the perfect star. The patron whose star has the most votes will have the honour of placing it atop the Harvest's Christmas tree on Christmas Eve. Entries can be submitted with a picture or short description here. Please vote for your favorites with a +1 comment! (Think Flower Fest/King & Queen.)

c.) While the search for the perfect star is ongoing, patrons may notice the top of their Christmas tree remain notably bare throughout the month. Most of the time, this will be true, but take another glimpse during a quiet moment when it isn't too crowded, and you may catch the rare sight of something pink in its place.

Meet the newest cat addition to the Wild Harvest family. She doesn't have a name yet, but she has wings, and evidently is not afraid to use them. She looks pretty comfortable, with her weight tilting the top of the tree as she sleeps. She's not a star, but who's going to be the one to tell her?

Not any of the staff, apparently. Or maybe they just haven't noticed...?

II. The Garden

Maybe you're already tired of Christmas, and you just want a quiet meal away from the holiday buzz. Walk out into the attached garden to enjoy your food and you'll find a variety of things to see aside from what's going into your food. There are certainly enough critters walking and crawling around that one might get the sense they're being watched.

There are signs that say something like: Be Mindful of Snakes.

a.) Rows of crops and various ingredients can be seen growing. Yellows and reds from various peppers and fruits burst into color against a sea of green and call for your attention. Wait long enough and you may see a garden snake or two lurking in the foliage. Some may even be brave enough to come out and greet you, with a few of the bolder ones demanding pets. They're relatively friendly, as long as you're not up to anything mischievous. Otherwise they'll start hissing at you, or get the attention of the staff.

The soothing sound of a small waterfall also fills the air, flowing into a pond nearby. Lotus blossoms float above its surface, glowing faintly after dark; though whether they are from the plant or the lotus koi fish swimming about will not be immediately obvious. The fish and the snakes both can be fed by asking a staff member.

b.) Speaking of feeding—if you're sitting down to enjoy your meal, you may feel the gentle brush of a cat or two against your leg, begging for food. You may also be visited by a spice or garnish noodle dragon, looking to live up to their names and add a little something extra to your meal; or a curious axoturtle that may nip playfully at your long hair, if you have it. Or your hat—if you happen to be huddled up or lying down somewhere on a vacant bench, and have your head low enough.

Or maybe it's your blanket as it trails onto the floor, if you have neither of those. Honestly—

c.) "To those who have left Songerein, but are not forgotten." Between two ponds in the garden is a Remembrance wall. On this wall and amidst the grass and dirt at your feet, you'll notice several star-shaped stepping stones, each one adorned with the name of someone who has left the dream world. This was started by the staff, but in light of the holiday season, they have opened it up for anyone to write the name of someone they wish to honour upon a star, and hang it on the wall with the rest. (You can also etch the name onto the star using dreamotion.)

III. Sing your heart out!

Back inside the restaurant near the bar, a small stage has been set up with speakers and a microphone for the occasional live performance. Karaoke is also welcome, so feel free to take the floor (or bully someone onto it)! Sing whatever song or tune your heart can dream up.

Just be careful not to let the alcohol take you too far. Become too drunk and disorderly and you may find yourself sinking into the shadows and back outside before you know it, with no idea how you got there...... Hmmm. (Did this place have a bouncer the last time you checked?)

[ OOC: This is a mingle log to showcase all the various updates to the Harvest we've implemented over the past year. Feel free to top level, tag around, and/or wild card it up! Happy holidays ♡ ]

[Thankfully most people didn't try to involve him in decorating or even festivities, which worked out well for his bah-humbug type attitude when it came to this time of year. He knew that Jack wasn't that much of a fan of Christmas either given all that had gone down, but the younger man had always been better about putting on a brave face and making other people happy.

He shrugged his shoulders at the question, eyeing the spice dragons lounging nearby because they had clearly done their work along with everyone else. He flexed his fingers over his arms, issuing his usual low growl that was probably some form of agreement.]

You're still on shift. We will be in a quieter place once we close for the night.

[He knew Jack needed to take breaks because the younger man usually didn't unless it was between orders.]

Do you need clean up?
steadypulse: (Yet still keep on keeping on)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2022-12-13 04:35 pm (UTC)(link)
I figured we would head on out after closing, too.

[Rather than hang around for too long- was a bit more of a fuller house given three-to-four of the 'kids' were living in the treehouse above the Harvest itself. All of them from the same world, one of them 're-arrived' without any knowledge of the place and close to both Kazuma and Susato.

Better to give them all that privacy to celebrate amongst themselves during this time.

76 tipped his head, glancing around the kitchen as he was walking to the sink with the not-cast-iron skillet.]

Yeah. Better to do it now, less work for later. I kinda doubt we'll be getting orders for anything more than drinks at this hour.

Once I make certain the place is safe and all the patrons are out.

[Some patrons didn't know what 'closed' meant, and he wasn't about to tolerate stragglers when it meant getting some fresh air away from the festive places. The forest was - mostly - blissfully empty of such things and neither he or Jack insisted on any kind of holiday spirit.

He knew that Kazuma and Susato had others around now, which meant there was strength in numbers. Plus, they likely didn't care to have a pair of old guys hanging around taking up space either.

He pushed off of the spot that he had rooted himself and gloomily wandered to the counter to start to clean it up too. Jack could do the dishes just fine, but he could clean up elsewhere so the kitchen remained neat and tidy.]

Likely not, but you never know. Festive people do crazy things.
steadypulse: (S o . . . . . .)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2022-12-14 08:35 am (UTC)(link)
Of course. [Naturally, a last sweet was as much a habit as it was mandatory just to make sure things were safe and secure before leaving.

At least back in the kitchen area the sounds from the dining areas and bar couldn't be easily heard outside of an order being placed when the kitchen was peeked into. Didn't mind assuming more of the cooking duties when Susato took up an empty waitress spot- or switching it around as need or want be. Made things a bit easier.

The habit 76 had of cleaning up after himself didn't hurt, which left only the wipe down and cleaning of what he'd just been using- and a few plates and glasses that had been delivered in. Had his gloves off and sleeves rolled up, careful of claws as he washed.]

More so if they've had a few. Offering alcoholic versions of what's drinkable on the special menu this month after all.

[He made it a point to leave places safer when he left, and it was an old habit. He liked to think he was likely the most dangerous aspect of many situations, but that wasn't always the case. Better to tighten up security at every opportunity.

He moved dirtied dishes next to the sink for Jack to wash up and wiped down all the used surfaces so they were clean. Then he was putting away some dry items back into their place in the pantry area for the next day's use if needed. He knew that having something to do kept his mind off of darker subjects.

Their conversation was downright benign, also something that he knew they both needed.]

And festive people do like to drink. So don't get to leave just yet as I'm sure there will be a last minute order.
steadypulse: (I've lost any method)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2022-12-14 09:16 pm (UTC)(link)
[It was a good system that they easily fell into, taking every dish slid over and making sure it was scrubbed clean and rinsed thoroughly. Anything left on the plate scraped off into the garbage to later turn out onto the compost pile for the garden. Better to make use of scraps that way, after all.]

Wouldn't doubt it, and I am covering for Tifa at the bar when needed.

[Let her and Eustace enjoy themselves, and her not worry about dealing with work.

He was drying off his hands, the last of the dishes set to dry, shoulders rolling a bit as a joint in his neck cracked. That felt better.]

Yes well, some people drink to forget how much they hate Christmas.

[He might have been nursing more of Jack's moonshine lately, and he was pretty open about it at their safehouse. It kept him from pacing too much and allowed him a bit more opportunity to settle down, though Jack was also good at convincing him.

He finished wiping the working surface and appliance faces before making his way over to where Jack was doing dishes. He leaned the front of his shoulder against the back of Jack's, taking a moment to be close without impeding the younger man.]

I've had to usher out more drunkards than usual. It will settle down after New Years.
steadypulse: (I'm not your father)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2022-12-15 04:32 pm (UTC)(link)
[Jack hummed a little at that comment, because he did know Gabriel was dipping a bit more into his stash than usual. Didn't mind it, because hell if he wasn't doing the same. Those times it was still nice to settle in to the quiet of the safehouse, sit on the couch or curl up in the hammock together.

Whatever they felt like on that moment.

Companionable, a little lean back that didn't stop him from finishing up the dishes, head tipped a little towards Gabe.]

Kinda hope it settles before, but that's wishful thinking.

[They might have both been indulging and saying nothing about it. Holidays were hard and he just plain disliked them in general. At least they could be miserable together and ignore the world beyond their safe hours at times.

Plus working - even if it was festive - was a distraction. He'd always tried to work over the holidays, needing the distraction.

He turned his head to use his mask to nuzzle Jack's temple, hand stroking down the small of the younger man's back.]

Likely not. It's fine. It keeps me busy, which I expect means that I'm getting myself into less trouble.
steadypulse: (Sad and broody that's him)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2022-12-19 09:36 pm (UTC)(link)
Getting yourself into less trouble, less opportunities to get under Kazuma's skin or tease Susato- but then you can always make time for either.

[Spoken in that dry but good humored tone that he could drop into around Gabriel easy enough now-a-days, nuzzling back a little in turn. Relaxing under that hand as he rinsed off the last few dishes of soap.

Dry them off and set them on the drying rack for a few moments.]

Would like to get out of here sooner than later all the same- someone's been planting mistletoe in various places. Be able to still see it now- and was there something you wanted to go get?
b_a_n_g: (Default)

[personal profile] b_a_n_g 2022-12-31 03:35 pm (UTC)(link)
Well, you know I always make time for both of those. Kazuma provides the best reactions and Susato needs to a good ribbing to see where her powers are at.

[He replied with the same kind of tone dryness. He was a troll at heart and always had been though it had definitely gotten worse with age and now that he was 'bored', he definitely engaged more in trolling other people routinely.

Even still, his trolling had been less just because of the season. He kept more to himself, and maybe he was a bit more gruff at his job.

He grunted in agreement. The sooner they left, the sooner he wouldn't have to put up with people's festive cheer and merriment. It was annoying and prickled his temper.]

And knowing this place, mistletoe will have a forced effect on anyone standing under it. I get to kiss you for free whenever I want already.
steadypulse: (Really too old for dealing with bullshit)

[personal profile] steadypulse 2023-01-04 11:14 am (UTC)(link)
[Jack hummed a little, with a bit of an eye-roll just to play it all up; Gabriel was going to do what he found most entertaining- but at his own age he couldn't help but see the humor in it as well. Also knew it was likely grating on Kazuma given how rough everything had been before.

At least Susato was strangely understanding, but he figured he had an idea as to why.

Nevertheless—]

You do, without magical mistletoe or holiday Gumdrops pressing either of us about those kisses. Knowing it's out there is also why I'm asking if we need to hit up a few places before heading to the safehouse.

[He'd like to avoid flying slugs and spot-sticking plants if there were any stops.]
