BOSS FIGHT TIME
Who: Asura and YOU!
Which: Open Log/mingle (for the shard beasts and aftermath prompts)
Where: Out in the farmlands to the east of Reverein, about a mile away from the city.
What: The conclusion to the crystal shards plot
Warnings: Violence
Within the final week of January, all of the crystal shards that had been recovered from the Wastelands go missing, one by one. The researchers at the Observatory are at a loss when their shards seemingly vanish into thin air, especially since the ambient energy permeating Reverein and the surrounding areas continues to accumulate and warm the landscape to springlike temperatures.
On the morning of the first of February, it reaches a tipping point. The ambient energy condenses in the farmlands out to the east of the city, and a loud explosion sounds as enormous black tendrils of dark energy erupt from the epicenter to reach skyward and tower over the landscape like a monstrous eldritch horror trying to tear down the heavens themselves. It's seemingly alive; a being of pure destruction visible from the city even as far away as it is that roars out the agony of its own existence. It's a good distance from the city now, but with it lashing out wildly as it is, it's too dangerous to let be lest it turn its rage on Reverein.
(Note: Prompt B is closed to sign-ups, but there are an unlimited number of shard beasts from prompt A to contend with. Team up to take them on and see how many you can beat!)
A. Shard Beasts (open to all/cooperative)
[Those who attempt to approach the living chaos will be met by a multitude of three-eyed shard dragons identical to those created by the crystal shards when they were still in the wastes. These creatures are vicious and powerful, but mindless, attacking anything that moves within their sight. They can be easily outwitted, but with their speed and highly-aggressive temperament, they are still a force to be reckoned with.
Once a shard dragon is killed, their body will evaporate, leaving behind the obsidian black shard that spawned them, which will then shatter into dust and dissipate, leaving no trace behind. Even so, there seems to be an endless number of such creatures...]
B. Asura, the Destroyer (Closed to those who signed up)
[Within the eye of the storm stands a man with whom some within Songerein are familiar: It's Asura, though he looks a bit different than usual. His normally long black hair has become a shock of white, and the fiery markings that cover his skin split and crack, revealing an internal flame like magma showing through. Fire billows from all three of his eyes, and behind his back hover four massive arms--his Spiritual Entity condensed into a more literal interpretation of his namesake.]
Have you come to stop me? [ He sneers at his challenger, but he doesn't wait for an answer before he's launching himself bodily at this interloper with intent to kill. ]
-----
C. Aftermath (open/mingle)
[Once Asura is defeated, the excess energy that had been pouring into Songerein over the past month abruptly vanishes and the temperature plummets back to levels more approrpriate of the season. The place that staged the showdown with Asura is a mess and looks like a hurricane had ripped through it, but apart from the trail of destruction, there is no sign of Asura himself left anywhere.]

One of the aforementioned waterfowl has wandered over to the disaster zone: a large black swan not dissimilar to the one that normally paddles around Asura's pond. But this one is even larger still, and it bears a distinctive red blaze of feathers upon its chest, as well as cresting its forehead. The swan waddles its way around the mess, but otherwise doesn't bother anyone working to clean it up. It's just minding its own business in Venti's vicinity... ]

When he sees the large black swan minding its own business Venti stops and tilts his head to watch it for a moment. How serene and peaceful! Just waddling around! It looks like it doesn't have a single care in the world. Venti comes closer and crouches down on his haunches.]
Aren't you a handsome bird.
[But there's something a bit familiar about it...]

It's not like he can even talk right now, so the best he can do is resume his repair attempt, futile as it is. He's not used to being this weak... ]

Are you trying to fix up this section of the fence?
[If the goose (swan) wanted Venti to help that might not happen.]
Why would a pretty bird like you want to do something like that? Unless this place was ... Your home?
My brain has not been especially cooperative lately
it's okay!! ❤️
That's quite a big job for one bird!
[He hops over and jumps up with a whoosh of anemo to sit on a lone wooden fence pole that hasn't been knocked over.]
I wonder why you're so keen on it.
[He's going to start making assumptions soon.]
