STROKE OF MIDNIGHT
Although the Masquerade is being held on the night of the Fourteenth, some new problems arise in the days after. This log is split into two sections, the Masquerade and Around Town. Everyone is free to participate in either or both, whichever catches your interest.
More details on everything can be found here and here. As a reminder, events double as our TDMs and information can be found here with arrival details here. Any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in February and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of February 14 through 28. TDM only characters can only thread within this log. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count February as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Wednesday, February 22nd and Applications will open on March 1. Our next cycle after won't be until JULY.

I. MASQUERADE

It's time for the masquerade and the carriages will start arriving before sunset. Upon arrival, everyone who leaves the carriage (or mercilessly spat out if they try to resist) will be greeted by fairy godmothers with an eye for the most dramatic and extravagant fashion. It's a masquerade, after all! For those who already arrive with their outfits, the fairy godmothers may add a little embellishment here and or just change it completely if they think it could look better. For those who did not, they will create a whole new outfit that would fit the wearer perfectly—with magic of course. They will also create the masks and half of the glass slipper brooch that everyone will wear. The masks are enchanted so that regardless of obvious personality or physical traits, they are somehow unrecognizable at first. While it is possible to figure it out through interaction, or if it's someone they already know well, it's more likely they need to reveal their identity first. These outfits can be kept even after the masquerade is over.
A. Get in the Carriage. As the pegasus drawn carriages begin to arrive to transport those who have decided to attend the masquerade, there is some commotion from others. The pair of coach mice—who are only about four feet tall—can be found smiling and cheerily squeaking about the masquerade as they grab and literally throw protesting individuals into the carriage, whereupon the door will immediately shut behind them. Ho ho ho, it'll be such a grand time! Will anyone try to help the poor soul? Or perhaps help the mice? Maybe you're a struggling victim instead. Should anyone want to try and drive the carriage, they might have a chance…but good luck having the pegasi listen to them. Eventually the carriage will land and take them to the front of the castle where the masquerade is hosted.

D. Royal Banquet. There are numerous tables one can use and be served an assortment of foods. In fact, one could make special requests and somehow the dragons serving will be able to make it, or at least as close as possible. One just has to imprint the idea of the dish onto a special card that the chefs will use to recreate it. There are also two bowls filled with special tear drop chocolates, one with only white, pink, and red, and the other filled with the other colors. The "game" is to randomly choose one from each bowl and share a kiss depending on what is picked.

- Extravagant mazes that one could easily get lost in are common, but what's special about these gardens is that the flowers will emit a soft, sweet scent that will feel as if they are walking through a dream. In fact, the section they are going through will begin to change to look like a place from their world and must now find their way out. When this change happens, only those who are in the area will be affected and no one else can enter the area until the main person affected gets out. Those inside can help, and there are no threats—it's all in simple fun…unless the place evokes certain memories and emotions for the person. Might not be as fun for them, then.
- A crystal greenhouse where the temperature is perfectly warm (or cold!) and houses various different flowers. Here some may recognize flowers from their world, the scents also creating nostalgia. There are instructions left that indicate anyone can try to help grow the flowers. The key ingredient will be dreamotion energy, and should they succeed in creating a blossom, a small marble containing a symbol of their home. There are also special daisies that can be used to play the "they love me they love me not" game. If the last petal is "they love me," then become extra flirty and clingy. If it's "love me not," they become angry, jealous, and possessive. The effects only last for a short time…unless they keep plucking flowers.
- The white fountain in the center of the gardens will have a bit of a musical playful side. It will splash colorful water at any who pass by, chime-like notes playing out as it does. But if one were to drop a flower that has absorbed positive dreamotion into its water, it will calm and let people sit to look and relax. There is also a strange frog wearing a crown that claims to be a prince. For those who believe its words that a kiss will free him from the curse, they will be sorely disappointed as nothing happens and the frog just laughs and hops away.
II. AROUND TOWN

- Insightful Mockingbirds. Special mockingbirds are flying around and perch on random shoulders. They have the ability to "read" a person's thoughts and repeat them out loud. Without warning. Hope there aren't any secrets because that bird is going to make it public, especially if it's an observation or thought—good or bad—about another person. Good luck shooing it away, too—it'll stick around for a while because it might enjoy sowing this bit of chaos.
- Arrow Delivery. The group from last year have decided to use their prank arrows for good and start a business in delivering special Valentine's messages via arrow. A "shot to the heart" in the less literal sense this time! While some of their archers are skilled, others are…less so. Some are hitting a bit too close to comfort or way off the mark. Some messages are going to the wrong person entirely. Help avoid, retrieve, or even deliver these messages around town.
C. Candy Kisses. A special assortment of flat bottomed, tear shaped chocolates are currently selling like hotcakes and can be found practically everywhere. Their main selling point is they come in different colors and each color has a special effect that will make the eater want to kiss the person near them in a certain way (see chart). Some people are deliberately swapping the wrappers around, so be careful!

it's perfect, no worries!!!
W-well... it's not exactly a secret anyway.
[And yet he hesitates! It's just embarrassing to admit. Especially, since those chocolates were involved.]
You're correct to assume that Childe and I are... together now. You're one of the two people to hear about it first, actually.
[The other is Venti, but... probably everybody who's been here for a while saw this coming.]
However... You are wrong to assume that I know which chocolates he's after.
[In fact, he has not even the slightest idea! Childe ate all of them at once anyway.]
OK COOL i was phone tagging and it looked like a novel lmao fffff;;
Oho~! In that case, I'm honored to be one of the first~ [He can guess that other people Aether knows may have figured it out, considering he just walks around sporting hickeys on his neck and Childe... is Childe.] I suppose congratulations are in order, so- Congratulations!
But I'm surprised you don't know what he was looking for. He made it sound like you liked the way the purple-wrapped ones affected him the most!
even if it was a novel it would've been cool! Also that icon hahaha
[Purple...
...The shy one.
Aether's face reaches an impressive shade of red before he his his face against his palm.]
I can't believe this...
[Childe is gathering shy chocos?! To eat them for him?! He doesn't know if he should feel flattered or embarrassed.]
ISN'T IT ADORABLE
Admittedly, I haven't been able to figure out what each of the different colored wrappers correlate to! Maybe you can enlighten me~? Your boyfriend was gathering up so many of the purple ones, but he wouldn't tell me what kind of effect they had... It must really be something, though!
[He pulls out the one Childe gave him from his pocket, holding it up so Aether can see while he turns it over and over between his fingers. Like he's thinking about trying it out himself while he thinks out loud.] From what I can tell about him... it must have been something that makes him quite different from his usual self. Is that right?
IT IS! hahaha
...But Aether can't deny that the Harbinger was adorable in that moment. And he absolutely does not want to talk to Heizou about that!
The traveler leans away from his friend, cheeks still very much burning. He glances at him only to see the candy right in the other's hand.]
W-well... you can go ahead and try it. [Aether won't stop him. There's no point.] It's not something drastic. You'll be fine.
no subject
Heizou purses his lips thoughtfully, regarding his friend and gauging his reaction out of the corner of his eye.]
Oh? Are you sure? What if I eat it and I become irresistible to you? I'd hate to become a homewrecker when you both seem so happy~
no subject
No, none of that will happen...
[His embarrassment slowly wears off.]
I think the "worst" that can happen is me giving you a pat on the head or a big hug.
no subject
[He's only teasing, of course, pouting playfully for a second before going back to rolling the little candy between his fingers with a chuckle. That rules out at least one possible effect! And with no risk of Aether becoming compelled to cheat on Childe, it probably really is okay for Heizou to safely consume in his current company. He doesn't want to, though. Not yet. He much prefers trying to figure it out based on how his friend reacts.]
That said, you make it sound like I'd turn into a timid child, Aether! [He gasps, scandalized.] Man alive, I had no idea you were into that kind of thing! Is that why you call him by his codename~?
no subject
What his friend says next makes Aether's eyes widen in disbelief and he flinches.]
W-w-what?!
[Heizou?!]
I-it's not! Do you have any idea how wrong that sounds? [Does he look like some kind of creep?!] The chocolate makes you shy, nothing else! And I'm just used to calling him "Childe"... "Tartaglia" isn't even his real name either.
[He can't believe he's explaining himself like this.]
no subject
I'm only joking! I thought that would be the quickest way for you to admit what it does without me having to eat it~
[And with that done, he offers the purple chocolate back to Aether with a little wink.] You should take this for yourself, then. It was a gift from your dear Tartaglia, and it would be a shame if it didn't go to its intended use!
no subject
[Then Heizou wouldn't be able to say all those embarrassing things!!]
I hope you had enough fun at my expanse.
no subject
I'm just happy for you, Aether! I never imagined I'd be able to have a friend who I could tease about their love life, that's all~
[People have a tendency to get tired of Heizou's antics, after all. Assuming they even stick around long enough to have to put up with them.]
He is treating you well, isn't he? [If those hickeys are any indication...] You both seem quite enamored of each other~
no subject
[It looks like he has to get used to this.
When the hickeys are mentioned, Aether presses a hand to his neck. Those happened only because of those chocolates!]
...As surprising as it may sound, he is treating me well.
[Aether is aware that the Harbingers don't have good reputation and Childe in particular is well known for the chaos he causes and the fights he picks.]
no subject
[He's smiling, at least. As far as he's concerned, it's all very good-natured. Childe doesn't strike him as the type to mind very much anyway, so this might work out just fine!
But he does nod at Aether's answer to his question, satisfied with that. It would've been a very different story if they didn't seem to be a happy couple. ]
Glad to hear it! I would've had to have words with him, otherwise.
[All the harbingers are dangerous in their own way, but Childe doesn't seem interested in bringing harm to someone he cares about. On top of the fact that this is Aether he's talking about, Heizou can trust that there's nothing to worry over.]
no subject
I think he can handle it.
[Probably much better than Aether does!
But his friend's concern makes the traveler's eyes soften. He understands where Heizou is coming from.]
...He's a good partner. [He admits.
Honestly, the fact that Childe was hoarding those chocolates is probably already a good indication. But even without the candy, the Harbinger can be patient and considerate. Aether has very little to complain in this relationship.]
I think the only trouble he gives me is... that he keeps on asking for spars. [He shakes his head, still smiling.] I swear, he's a real battle maniac.
[The only real issue with Childe - he loves chaos.]
no subject
Oh? I'd heard rumors before that he loves fighting... Is it safe to assume you beat him at least half of the time?
no subject
He may be strong, but I fought gods and dragons before.
[He's pretty confident in his fighting skills!]
no subject
Indeed you have! It's little wonder why he's fallen for you~
[Traveler, you are so dreamy!]
So how long have you been in this dream world?
no subject
It's... been almost a year actually.
[Time sure flies.]
no subject
His eyebrows arch upward, surprised at that answer.]
A whole year! And you haven't once woken up to reality in that time?
no subject
But what feels like a year in a dream may be as well just a few nights in reality. Time works in strange ways here.
[Well, not only time.]
no subject
[He looks thoughtful for a second, head tilting ever so slightly to one side.]
As far as you can tell, has anyone ever woken up and then returned to this dream?
no subject
Yes. I knew a few people who came back here after waking up. Some don't remember this place though... and...
[He pauses, trying to think how to say this.]
When I met Childe here for the first time, he didn't even recognize me. It turned out he knew my sister instead. Then he vanished and when he came back, he didn't know my sister but knew me.
[So confusing, isn't it!]
There were a few other people who didn't know me either, but knew my sister so we concluded that maybe there's an alternate world out there, where my sister is travelling around with Paimon instead of me.
no subject
That's... quite something! I've heard theories before about... I believe they called them "alternate universes"? But it's always sounded more like a work of fiction than anything else.
[He shakes his head with a small, amazed chuckle.] Man alive, the truth really is stranger than fiction, isn't it. And it must be terribly disorienting for you to hear.
no subject
Definitely... But then again, we're in a world made up of dreams, with people from all kinds of worlds.
[It was bound to get confusing one way or another!]
Thankfully... everyone believed me and we quickly became friends again. So it wasn't all bad.
[He frowns a little.]
None of them is currently here though. They all left eventually and everybody who has come here since then knew me from Teyvat.
