MIRROR MIRROR
With the sleepwalking curse over, everyone will have some time to rest and recuperate—until Jack Frost comes barging in with news of a clue on how to help his beloved Ice Queen who still remains asleep. The clue was the mirror shard that was in her chest, and there are theories that it may have been a fragment of a much stronger, powerful mirror she had been given some time ago. Problem is, he can't find it nor can he remember who gave it to her. He does, however, have a magic incantation that will allow people to enter mirrors and hopefully find a trace. Unfortunately, this horrendously backfires and we have mirror chaos instead. Dammit, Jack.
More details on everything can be found here. We will request any thread submissions for certain prompts during AC .
I. REVEREIN
It all begins in Reverein, where there's a strange shift in the air upon Jack's attempt to cast the spell. But instead of affecting just one mirror, it reflects off the surface and spreads out to the entire town, hitting every reflective surface instead. Ripples can be seen before the surfaces still, but it's too late. Every reflective surface—glass, mirror, window—is under a different effect because of the botched spell.
And some are being unwittingly pulled into them.
Fortunately It is possible to communicate and even watch people from the other side of the mirror, but it's only through certain mirrors and at certain times. It also will be temporary, so while one mirror might work one time, it may not work again.
A. Strange Reflections. While some mirrors may still reflect proper images, many will have…unusual changes.
🪞 You are what you see. Whether it's an odd hairstyle, change in skin color, or style of clothing in the reflection, suddenly the viewer will look exactly like what's reflected. The most extreme is a different form entirely.
🏡 Glimpses of home. Everyone will have a rare glimpse of their home world, and these can be instances from the past, present, or even a limited future. They are just reflections and cannot be interacted with, and future reflections may be blurry to prevent the person from seeing too much. For those who have memory issues, such visions will also be blurry, but perhaps they can help stir some things…
🔮 Most desired. Mirrors that have a bit of a pink hue to them will reflect the viewer's most desired "thing." It could be an object, person, place, or even a general idea. However, if not careful the viewer may become trapped in a trance and will need to be removed or smash the mirror.
B. Clone Wars. Mirrors that do not show any kind of reflection are to be quickly taken away and covered as it will begin to create duplicates in Reverein of what is reflected within it. Yes, even people, and they will be very obviously fake: wrong colors, different voices, odd behavior, etc. and will usually be harmless. These "clones" will continue to appear and multiply until the mirror has been covered, and will need to either be destroyed or captured and shoved into the mirror, where it will lose its "no reflection" status and become a proper mirror again…only for them to appear on the other side in Mirror World.
C. Mirrorsnatched. A mirror with a black rim has the chance of absorbing a significant personality trait or memory of the one looking into it, and when this happens, the person will walk away feeling very muddle-headed and off. The mirror will "keep" this part of the person and someone from the Mirror World side must find their essence and "shove" it back out onto any mirror surface so that the original owner can break the mirror and retrieve it. The downside of this method is that breaking a mirror means one less mirror those on the Mirror side can use, so they need to choose carefully.D. The Unknown. Appearing in both the Mirror World and Reverein will be a strange mirror masked, black cloaked figure called "The Unknown." It traverses through the mirrors and through the walls, seeking those with happy reflections and will try to corrupt them with nightmares. People on both sides of the mirrors will be able to confront and try to stop the Unknown, though beware its chocolate attacks.
II. MIRROR WORLD
Everything in this "Mirror World" is, in a word, chaotic. Imagine an AI-generated monstrosity based off of Picasso, Escher, and Dr. Seuss, where everything seems to be upside down, backwards, colors everywhere and nowhere, and everything feels so fragmented that one step feels like walking towards the edge of a cliff. In a way it's nightmarish in an unusual sense, and those inside can feel that touch of "madness" that seeps through the cold air.
Beware the strange creatures in the Mirror World. They are grotesque monstrosities, many of them looking as if they were stitched together from different parts. Fortunately they are susceptible to weapons and dreamotion and those inside the Mirror World will find they are able to use different abilities, especially those with reflective properties.
A. Fragment of their old self. In order to get out of the Mirror World, those inside will need to catch a small fragment of themselves that has escaped and is running around. This fragment is actually a piece of their old self prior to arriving in Songerein. For some, this self may not be so different, but for long-time residents, they may seem a lot more different. To make things more interesting, this self can be from any point of the character's past. It just has to be a version of the character from before entering Songerein. This version will also appear "homesick" and "want" to return to their original home, regardless if the character actually feels that way. Thus the fragment will seek out mirrors that will reflect anything of their home world. Shattering these mirrors will weaken the fragment until it can be caught. But that's only half the challenge. If the fragment is injured, the original will also feel the damage but to a lesser degree. If the fragment is destroyed, then the original will be "knocked out" for a few seconds before a new fragment appears. However, this fragment will be much more distorted and worse than the one before.
B. Distorted Memories. At random points while traversing, characters may come across strange pockets of the world that they will feel drawn to. Following said instinct will lead them to a shifted landscape that will reflect images of home from different points in time (past, present, maybe even future) as if they've just walked right into it, but just like everything else, they are distorted. The changes can be as subtle as the wrong color of clothes, having too many limbs, to something major like the sky now being the ground. The only way out will either be destroying the anomalies or correcting them, and they will be rewarded with a mirror shard that will aid in their escape.
C. Warped Sense of Self. The longer a person stays within the Mirror World, the less "coherent" they will feel, and sometimes sound. Their memories will slowly become more disjointed, their personality feeling a bit "off", and they may even forget who they are or where they are from. Even their physical selves will start to twist and change, starting with something subtle (e.g. eye color) and then growing more drastic as time goes on (where did those extra fingers come from? Or why are they suddenly much shorter?) Finding those reflections of home will help with these anomalies, but those weak of heart be warned: the distortions may only exacerbate the issue and make them believe that they are the truth instead. Help anyone who might be caught in fixing these so that they can recover.
D. Finding an exit. To leave the world, those inside must find a mirror that will connect back to Reverein, and those on the other side can also try to help by posing as "anchors" for those inside to recognize. Otherwise, there are many mirrors in the Mirror World that will lead to different places within Songerein—presumably. However, perhaps due to the magic or needing something else, they will be unable to pass through any mirrors that are not connected to Reverein. This is where players have the fun opportunity to make up whatever kind of location or place the characters may see reflected on the mirrors. They could be existing locations in the game, or new ones that could be explored in the future. One unique place we can mention will be reflections of a city covered in night. Only upon finding a mirror that leads back to Reverein, but they will also need help from the outside. Someone from within Reverein must also be there to physically reach in and pull them out—while hopefully not accidentally be pulled in themselves.

it just wouldn't be the same as having all of yato's facets. every single thing that makes yato who he is. maybe he'll even get the memory of what she said to this yato about how much she thought about the right choice. how, in the end, she chose him over doing what might've been the right choice. or what everyone tried to tell her was the right choice.

That's the problem with being a simple double from a mirror, apparently. Never quite able to match up to the person they were created from. It's a depressing state of affairs in reality. Yet he's happy enough knowing that no matter what, Hiyori will have someone dedicated to her. However this turns out.
Hesitating a moment, he in turn pats her head, trying to be reassuring.]
As long as that's all it is. I don't mean to make you cry...
[The question comes as something of a surprise, although it shouldn't. Hiyori is so thoughtful and empathetic. He nods, taking up his own soup again.]
It's a distorted world, with everything topsy-turvy and fragmented. Compared to in there, this world feels... stabler. And oddly whole. Simple, in a way, yet more peaceful. I think that's why we were eager to get out.

after giving each of them a head pat, she giggles again (a bit wetly) when he's giving a head pat in return. ]

then she listens to his world. it doesn't sound pleasant. ]
... Yeah, but... if there are multiple of you, aren't there multiple of me in there... waiting for you to come back?

But this one is trying. He's doing his best. The others may be fixated on Hiyori this, and Hiyori that, but he's trying to maintain a sense of balance.
As for his world... He shakes his head, slowly. Sadly.]
...no. We weren't just waiting to come out from the mirror or anything. As far as I know, we were created when Yato left the mirror exposed to himself. So there's no Hiyori there because you haven't been subjected to the mirror. That's what they were trying to do earlier - put you in front of it so there'd be Hiyoris like us.

she bites her lip and grabs his hand. ]
Come on. [ first, she peeks out of the kitchen doorway to see what the other yato are up to. once the coast is clear and they're not paying attention, she sneaks them both to the bathroom and locks it behind her while sighing in relief that they didn't get caught. one at a time. ]
If it's me, I can probably be convinced to go back to help you. Any mirror version of me will be happy, as long as I'm at your side. But... let's test it, first.
[ taking a deep breath, she walks to the mirror and uncovers it slowly so she can see her -- no reflection. at all. what in the--
no reflection turns into a face appearing out of the mirror, hiyori's cloned face, and dressed in

she's immediately put into a headlock by her clone. ]

ORDERS AN AVALANCHE THEN
Suddenly nervous at being alone, locked in a small room with her, he wedges himself into a corner so as not to crowd her. This may be a bad idea, but at least he's here to help, should the need arise.]
Yeah, you're always so sensible about these sorts of things. It's really admirable. [Finally, he smiles at her, genuinely. If she thinks they can handle it, he trusts her. They'll manage it okay.] And... thank you, Hiyori.
[It's said with choked emotion, though it's not long before he's choking for an entirely different reason - all of a sudden there's a wrestling-crazed Hiyori manhandling herself. After flailing helplessly a moment, he scrambles to try getting Hiyori number two off of number one.
H-Hey now! There's no need for that! C'mon! Can't we all be friends, here?!

[ the hiyori not in wrestling gear tells the blond yato, gritting her teeth as she struggles with breaking free, pulling at the arm around her throat to breathe and find a way out of this. remember your training!! ]
Hah, gotcha! Just try and break out of it! I've been preparing for this forever!
[ YEAH, SHE KNOWS. of course, of course wrestling star hiyori would come out first. who would be next? she doesn't want to find out so soon. as much as hiyori did not expect to deal with six yato, she did not expect to be in a wrestling match with herself.
while wrestling hiyori is gloating (unlike her) she's gripping her at the elbow and, without warning, throws over her shoulder and slams her onto the ground with a loud crash before grappling her quickly. ]

[He wants to jump in, but damn if he knows where or how to keep things from getting worse. He wouldn't be able to stand hurting either one, and there's so many legs and arms flailing around??]

[Thank the Heavens, the moon, and the stars that Hiyori herself is made of tougher stuff than most humans, let alone girls. Her ability to maintain her cool while being pretzelfied is more than Yato himself would've been able to manage. And he's used to having her wrassle him. Once clone!Hiyori starts to go sailing, blond!Yato leaps out of the way with an "EEP!"
He doesn't want to get caught in between them, nice as being the meat in a Hiyori sandwich sounds.]

SLOWLY. carefully, just in case wrestle!her wants to try anything funny. if it's her though, deep down, she'll honor the win and listen. sure enough, there are no sneaky attempts to pin either of them down as she gets back onto her feet, dusts off her clothes, and puts her hands on her hips.
... she's a little jealous. this hiyori seems to have no reservations about loving wrestling. she's even dressed the part with elbow pads and kneepads. ]
Bested by myself! I guess it's better than being bested by someone else.
Hah. [ NERVOUS LAUGHTER. no, wait. ] Just to make sure, but you know you have to go back into the mirror, right?
... Mm. Yeah, I know. I don't want to but-- [ wrestler's eyes trail over to the yato hovering around nervously and her gaze goes softer. ]
So they don't have to do it alone, right? There's five more to go, me. I can hold them down for you.
[ hiyori beams and then turns to blond yato. ]

Even after that little stunt, he's quick to offer wrestling!Hiyori a hand up should she need it, idly straightening out her hair as she dusts herself off. It's a little nerve-wracking to be in the presence of one so devoted to her sports hobby, but at the same time it makes him smile, seeing a path Hiyori could take if she so chose it.]
You okay? Nothing bruised? Didja want a drink of water first?
[He can't help being a little concerned for her - both of her - after seeing them tussle so hard. So enthusiastic! Passionate! He wishes he had her gumption for something beyond practical things like cooking. Although he still has plenty of love for Hiyori, as proven when the double's eyes settle on him and make him blush shyly. Still, he returns it with a smile. Hiyori is Hiyori, whatever aspect of her is most prominent.
He shifts to face the original and gives a happy nod, a little rainbow forming behind him.]
I think you're right. Thank you so much, Hiyori...

[ yep, still hiyori. deep down, just like all the others are still yato. after batting him away, wrestleyori squeezes blondato's hand while staring at her sneakered feet.
realyori smiles gently at the happy nod and that rainbow behind him. one down. it'll be sad, in a way, to see them all leave. they can all be assured they won't have to do it alone, though. not a single one. ]

[ BACK TO THE MIRROR.
it isn't long before there are just as many hiyoris as there are yato. it's very cramped in the bathroom. they'll have to do this in pairs. there's a more NYAyori with cat ears to go with her cat tail and many cat puns. there's doctor hiyori, in a white coat and stethoscope. there's traditional hiyori, in a kimono and looking very reserved. she and military yato would get along. there's idol hiyori, inspired by yato's bodily possessions she assumes. finally, there's (and perhaps the MOST EMBARRASSING) - what she can only call devout hiyori. her darkest not!secret.
she's pretty sure yato will get a GOOD KICK out of the "YATOGAMI LOVE" headband she wears. as well as the shirt she wears with his FLIRTY WINKING FACE PLASTERED ON IT. all the other hiyoris can hardly bear to look at her without going BRIGHT FUCKING RED, too.
they stand shoulder to shoulder before hiyori stands on the toilet, clapping to get everyone's attention. ]
Alright!! Now that you're all here, you know your mission. Pair up with one of the Yato outside!
[ they all give affirming responses (especially YATO LOVE hiyori, she's the loudest) and start heading into the hallway. surprise! yatos!!
job done, hiyori is the last to leave the bathroom. ]

[With his loneliness assuaged, he cuddles up next to wrestle!yori in a corner of the bathroom, talking in quiet whispers, paying her all manner of sincere compliments. He quite likes the domineering personality, naturally.]
This is gonna take a while, huh?
[Comes regular!Yato's wry observation as they start things up again. Maybe not to produce enough Hiyoris (it's like heaven in here...!) but to get them all back where they belong. There's just so many...!
But as each Hiyori arrives, Yato can't help greeting her with gratitude and gusto. Nekori with her cat ears gets special attention to those as he begs her for a feel, gently massaging the pair of fuzzy protrusions with a blissed out expression on his face. He wouldn't mind having her to snuggle with in the mornings, that's for sure.
The rest are equally paid attention to: Doctor Iki gets begged for a check-up (he doesn't need it), traditional Hiyori gets the suave treatment complete with hand kiss, idol!Hiyori is begged for a song just for him before she goes, but most of all it's the final version that captures Yato's attention, of course.
Everything from the crazy headband to her shirt have him beaming with unbridled delight as he takes her by both hands and kisses them then her cheek. T-There really is a part of Hiyori that adores him as much as he does her...! He couldn't possibly be happier, except if they were to all stay and be his harem. But that wouldn't be fair to them or himsel(ves)f.
And speaking of his selves, there's practically a riot when the herd of Hiyori emerge from the bathroom. There's surprised shouts, gleeful cheers, and at least one happy curse ringing out amid the pairing up. Thankfully due to their natures it doesn't take long before they're paired off, each one a picture of happiness at having someone special just for them.
Yato himself feels a twinge of sadness watching them, but ultimately knows they can't all remain in this world. There's just not enough room for more than one of them at a time. Turning to the original Hiyori, he slips his hand into hers with a fond smile.]
...thank you, Hiyori. You really are a compassionate person.

despite yato's comments about it taking a while, hiyori is far more organized than his gaggle of goofs. one by one, they come out. as for getting them back? yeah, okay, that might take a while.
hiyoriginal sees yato greet each version of herself. blushing madly at him begging to touch nekori's ears (which she allows and purrs at) before hiyori can't take it and separates them. asking dr. iki for a check-up is a facepalm while the doctor laughs somewhat and agrees, putting her stethoscope to yato's heart to tell him he's fit and perfectly healthy. and, anyway, wasn't actual!suave yato in the other room?! reserved hiyori puts her mouth behind her unkissed hand with an "oh my" while hiyoriginal grabs yato's neck scarf and pulls him away with a "would you STOP?"
and he doesn't. asking hiyidol for a song, she gives him a sweet lil diddy combined with a wink and a blown kiss BECAUSE THAT'S WHAT IDOLS DO FOR THEIR FANS.
finally, with bated breath, she awaits his reaction to the yatobsessed hiyori. she's too ashamed to intervene on him, then. especially when the clone squeals at him kissing her and reacts by throwing her arms around him with "I LOVE YOU YATOGAMI YOU'RE MY FAVORITE GOD."
they can never talk about this again. never.
the house has BEEN chaos but it grows to astronomical levels when all the yatos and all the hiyoris are together. the only hiyori that has trouble picking ONE (1) yato is, of course, the obsessed one. she wants them all. hiyoriginal shoves her at the one yato that doesn't have a partner and calls it a day.
she's off in the corner, watching as each pair heads to the mirror when a hand finds hers. startled, she looks over at him. at the sight of his fond smile her heart thrashes. heat floods her entire face. ]
I...! I-I just. [ then she looks away, turning her attention to blondyato and wrestleyori in the very back of the line holding hands. just as they are. her head leans gently on his blond one and hiyori flusters at how easily they show affection. ]
It was something I could do to help them all. What's important is that everyone is happy.
[ after watching him dote over them all, something comes to mind. gathering her courage, hiyori turns to face yato. ] One of your clones asked me something. I want to... ask you the same thing.
Which side of me do you like the best...?

Nodding at her answer, he threads their fingers together to make the hold just that more close.]
Yeah, but you didn't have to. Neither did your other selves. It takes a special kind of person to let themselves be exposed like that just to help others.
[It couldn't have been easy on her, he knows. She's so guarded about her more personal feelings, like her love of wrestling and her affection for him. Allowing him to see all sides of herself up close and personal is about as close as they've gotten to being intimate. It's something he'll appreciate for a long, long time.
Especially when she decides to face him head-on and ask that question. For a minute he regards her quietly, humming as though in thought, before--]
Maybe it's cheating, but I think the original is best. All of your sides are great in their own way, but your yourself are more than the sum of your parts. Like a diamond, you shine more brightly when each aspect of you lights up the other parts.
[Leaning in, he dares to brush his lips against hers.]

because while it's a lot, it's also rather nice. besides, they're a couple now. they've been holding hands before that. what she hadn't known? is how well yato knows her. over time, the more he talks, the more her eyes widen.

his arm around her middle stops her in her stomping tracks. though she doesn't throw him off, she never - not once - stops blushing. if she could get more red, his whispering in her ear would manage it.
