Owl Rescue
✵ MINI EVENT: OWL RESCUE ✵
Late in the month, the blizzard has reached its peak and the skies seem strangely dark and ominous, a soft jingling of bells followed by deep, baritone voice echoes through the skies.
With a mighty bellow the gusting winds clear and for a moment the morning skies seem beautiful and bright, as if the strange blizzard storm had never appeared at all. And then, in perhaps questionably late fashion, a large man dressed in red and astride a giant reindeer descends down to the central plaza.
"Ho ho ho! So this is where that bastard's been trying to hide, eh? I'll give it some credit—it chose a powerful world for its mischief…even if it could still use some work. And it's still just a baby—miracle it's lasted this long." The man, many of which will recognize as the fabled Santa Claus turns to look at the still run down buildings. For a man who is known to being "jolly" and full of holiday spirit, he looks as if he's about to head into war with the large axe at its his side and hardened expression. Just as he's about to say more, he clicks his tongue as a loud SCREEEEEECH is heard in the distance.
"But it won't be around much longer if you kids don't do anything about what's coming."
In the next moment, a large fiery owl large enough to overshadow half the town hovers in the air, the flames dangerously drifting from her feathers.
WHERE ARE THEY…
WHERE ARE MY CHILDREN!!
Her voice shakes the ground, the fire expanding outward as she gives one last heartrending cry filled with anger and agony.
PROMPTS
It's a confusing mess as two large figures have appeared at once, but it's clear that the owl's needs take precedence. With Santa's help, the owl will shrink small enough so that she can wait in the Plaza alongside and wait for those willing to find her eggs and owlets. But she watches over it with an anxious eye, the flames occasionally rising whenever there is a sound of one nearby. Everyone better work fast!
A. Talk with Santa. With Santa remaining with the owl, some may wish to speak to him while the others are working to find the baby owls. Although he plans to speak again once this is over, he will go ahead and answer any questions people may have. All questions may be asked in this thread, and as mentioned in the Game Notes, this will not be an IC thread. It is encouraged for questions to be asked now as it will help speed up dispensing information later.
B. Owl Egg Hunt. The eggs are scattered throughout the town Reverein, the nearby forests, and the lake. As if sensing their danger, the eggs have hidden themselves in various nooks and crannies, which can make it quite difficult to find. Hopefully no one accidentally tries to cook one. However, there are some clues. They will sparkle and will sometimes wiggle and roll out of their hiding place. They can also be "lured" out by friendly, positive emotions, or towards anyone that might exude a feeling of safety, security, and protection. However, if they're frightened the eggs will start to hatch. They sprout wings, legs, or even the beak to try and either escape or protect themselves. The eggs may also take on elemental characteristics, such as turning into a fireball, a block of ice, a giant rock, or a mini cyclone. Another threat will be the snoyotes as the sly buggers will follow would be rescuers to find the egg and try to snatch them and run off.
C. Owlet Panic. For the eggs that have already hatched, the owlets will be panicking and very emotional, causing a great environmental disruption around them. From fire storms to massive blizzards, the babies are out of control. Fortunately they're easy to spot—as well as hear. Their high pitched screeches can be heard from long distances. Calming emotions will be key in trying to soothe them, though dremoation abilities may be needed to get to them first.
D. Owlsitter. Whether already hatched or bursting out after returning to mother owl, the little owlets can be quite the handful. They're born already large enough to fly and while they aren't skilled, they will flutter about here and there. Essentially toddlers, they will get into anything that might interest them and cause mischief. With the owlets capable of casting elemental magic, that can pose a problem as sometimes it can go awry.
E. Snoyotes. The snoyotes are a cross between snake and coyote and they rely on their stealth skills rather than offensive power. They will stick to the shadows and can camouflage themselves well. When they do need to fight, they are tenacious and will try to sink their venomous fangs into their assailant. The venom is paralytic and is potent and fast acting. Although not always enough to kill, if enough venom makes its way to the heart then there might be trouble. As mentioned they will follow those looking for eggs to try and snatch them first, but some may be hunting other eggs. It's not necessary to kill them, driving them off to the Wild Canyons will do.

Gone away are the reindeer
Out to play are the dreamers
To lead their return, we gather in snow
All to bring the lost presents home
In the shadows we can build a snowman
To protect the sleigh that's full and bright.
Mimics will attack, and we'll say, "No, man!"
Only the real presents here will do!
We'll raise our mugs to the fire
Raise our voices higher and higher
Then we'll slash through our foes
From head down to their toes
All to save this Christmas Wonderland
Out to play are the dreamers

Raise our voices higher and higher
Then we'll slash through our foes
From head down to their toes
All to save this Christmas Wonderland
In the city we can make some string lights
Beautiful and bright just like the stars
With a little magic, we'll be alright
And top everything off with just a Star
A star so big and bright
with magic all around
shining with all its might
making the world go 'round!
So come join us, all ye citizens
of this little festive town.
Guard your hearts with love and laughter,
and we'll bring this foul Grinch down!

» BONUS: FANG COLLECTION. Although highly potent, the venom stored within the fangs of the snoyotes can be used in anti-venom remedies (and poisons). Collecting them will need some care. In addition, defanging a snoyote is one way to keep it away for those unwilling to kill. Their fangs will grow back so would be an effective way to farm fangs later.

Madhuri Qalli | OTA
[This was for everyone searching. The anger and confusion that seemed to permeate only seemed stronger now from the mother owl's rage. She'd danced until her feet ached, and fought until she was sore. But she wouldn't stop. Madhuri had seen too much despair back home to let everything falter, even in a dream world. People existed here. They mattered.
So she went hunting for those eggs, and would see to the harsh punishment of the thieves responsible. Her eyes gleamed as she moved quickly atop a grassy knoll, her voice lifting and filling the air. The wind stirred and strange flowers that bloomed every color fought to rise beneath her heels and slowly formed a field within radius of her. She'll be this godsdamned beacon!]
Higher, oh higher
E'er our vows endure and remain forever strong
Standing tall in the dark do we carry on-
[Something sparkled in the distance. Now's your chance! Will you follow it? She seemed to be moving in pursuit, the flowers sprouting in the prints she left in the grass.]
Higher, oh higher
Carrying our song, cradled fast within your arms,
That its chorus might ring for all!
[She moved swifter. Those who overhear may feel an odd swiftness of foot, a sharpness in the senses... was Madhuri some form of bard? Jury's out on that.]
[II. Snoyote Hunting]
[For the first time in so long, Madhuri clutched the red crystal in her hand and felt a flood of old, familiar emotions sweep over her mind. If it were given a voice, it would have said, "It's about fucking time, girl... NOW will you call on me?"
With a rush of light, she swapped from Dancer to Warrior. Frills and skirts made way for leather and furs, heeled boots ending in hooked claws and a pelt sash that ended in a long, fluffy tail that seemed to move on its own.]
...I'll keep them busy! Grab that egg and check if it's safe.
[Time to enrage. Focus. Your foes are ahead of you. The whites of her eyes inked over into black as she noticed the three snoyotes were beginning a formation. Purple irises burned amid the dark as the xaela bellowed a warning roar, the sound far too animal to be something from her vocal cords. The snoyotes momentarily froze, heads high in alarm. She didn't give them time to process any further than that, as she hunkered her body low and rushed them, a battleaxe as big as she is grasped in both hands.]
[III. Toxic]
[The issue with sinking deep into the thrill of battle was the aftermath, the coming back down to earth after that high. It reminded her of all the little aches from blows taken, her adrenaline starting to ebb. It reminded her that, somewhere in clashing with any and all of the egg thieves she came across, one had managed to tag her left hip, a hefty graze with venomous fangs.
It was like her left leg was growing heavy as concrete. She used her axe as a crutch, maintaining her balance as something precious lie wrapped under the other arm: She'd found another egg. She'd lost count of how many she'd tracked down...]
Go... get this back to its mother...
[She would all but thrust the egg into your hands.]
I'll hold off any of the hunters that come sniffing. I can give you that much, at least...
II
[Watching someone do a fancy transformation in order to kick more ass? Okay, fair. He will go check on the sparkly wobbly egg.]
Hey hey hey, stop twitching around.
[Wait. It's got to be positive or some shit like that right? With a sigh, he rolls his eyes behind his shades and tries again.]
Do you want to be safe inside a tree nice and warm? All snuggled up and don't have to worry about anything until you're ready to be born? I got just the place.
no subject
[Mental note: Don't let Zhao babysit anything. He'll scare the kids if that sort of tone is what he considered positive. But they could both be glad that vision wasn't a factor for unborn owls locked in their shells. The egg may be twitching and cooing, but what lay inside didn't seem entirely ready to emerge yet. Still, the egg seemed fine, but for how long depended upon them. Secured in a nearby tree's hollowed opening sounded like a perfect spot.]
Let's see... You first, little thieving fucker-
[But Madhuri was having herself a grand old time keeping the thieves as busy as she could. Her axe embedded into the supple flesh of the first, and upon a pivot and a whip of the handle, brought the blades back to her side, tearing clean through on its way back. What was a warrior without her beloved Fell Cleave? The snoyote walked a few paces, hissing before it slipped in its own gore, and fell not to rise again. Torn from hip to lips, there wasn't much chance of fleeing to heal.
The other circled, noticed the meal was going to get away, but was thrown off-center with a shoulder charge from the warrior. The last hooted a call for help. Two other voices joined from a distance. They would be here shortly.]
They think they have numbers on their side...
no subject
Okay little eggs. We're gonna get you out of here and have you hang out in my jacket for a second while we move you a better nest.
[They're not too big that they can't fit in pockets on the inside of his jacket. When he zips it up, they're very secure and will soon be very warm.]
I'm just hoping I don't get shanked by an egg.
[Because now he's twirling his saber around in lazy patterns as he gets ready to defend himself. He'll stick with more basic attacks because anything more acrobatic might hurt the eggs.]
no subject
Just in time, because three reinforcements came, all converging on Zhao judging by the scent of those eggs on him...!]
no subject
[There are a lot of ways Zhao can defend himself in combat and a whole bunch of them had to be thrown out while protecting eggs inside his jacket. So instead of taking any of them head on, he has to feint, slice and dodge again.]
So! We're just going for a little ride, eggies, before I pop you somewhere nice and warm. Just a little speedbump, I swear.
no subject
Feint, slice, dodge, and one snoyote was left bleeding from Zhao's swing. The other two practically tangled up in each other as the man moved with ease out of their path. These were just animals, not thugs or gunslinging weirdoes like the usual stomping grounds of Yokohama. But they were seeking an opening, lunging and snapping at him.]
I'll make an opening for you! Just need to set it up!
