Owl Rescue
✵ MINI EVENT: OWL RESCUE ✵
Late in the month, the blizzard has reached its peak and the skies seem strangely dark and ominous, a soft jingling of bells followed by deep, baritone voice echoes through the skies.
With a mighty bellow the gusting winds clear and for a moment the morning skies seem beautiful and bright, as if the strange blizzard storm had never appeared at all. And then, in perhaps questionably late fashion, a large man dressed in red and astride a giant reindeer descends down to the central plaza.
"Ho ho ho! So this is where that bastard's been trying to hide, eh? I'll give it some credit—it chose a powerful world for its mischief…even if it could still use some work. And it's still just a baby—miracle it's lasted this long." The man, many of which will recognize as the fabled Santa Claus turns to look at the still run down buildings. For a man who is known to being "jolly" and full of holiday spirit, he looks as if he's about to head into war with the large axe at its his side and hardened expression. Just as he's about to say more, he clicks his tongue as a loud SCREEEEEECH is heard in the distance.
"But it won't be around much longer if you kids don't do anything about what's coming."
In the next moment, a large fiery owl large enough to overshadow half the town hovers in the air, the flames dangerously drifting from her feathers.
WHERE ARE THEY…
WHERE ARE MY CHILDREN!!
Her voice shakes the ground, the fire expanding outward as she gives one last heartrending cry filled with anger and agony.
PROMPTS
It's a confusing mess as two large figures have appeared at once, but it's clear that the owl's needs take precedence. With Santa's help, the owl will shrink small enough so that she can wait in the Plaza alongside and wait for those willing to find her eggs and owlets. But she watches over it with an anxious eye, the flames occasionally rising whenever there is a sound of one nearby. Everyone better work fast!
A. Talk with Santa. With Santa remaining with the owl, some may wish to speak to him while the others are working to find the baby owls. Although he plans to speak again once this is over, he will go ahead and answer any questions people may have. All questions may be asked in this thread, and as mentioned in the Game Notes, this will not be an IC thread. It is encouraged for questions to be asked now as it will help speed up dispensing information later.
B. Owl Egg Hunt. The eggs are scattered throughout the town Reverein, the nearby forests, and the lake. As if sensing their danger, the eggs have hidden themselves in various nooks and crannies, which can make it quite difficult to find. Hopefully no one accidentally tries to cook one. However, there are some clues. They will sparkle and will sometimes wiggle and roll out of their hiding place. They can also be "lured" out by friendly, positive emotions, or towards anyone that might exude a feeling of safety, security, and protection. However, if they're frightened the eggs will start to hatch. They sprout wings, legs, or even the beak to try and either escape or protect themselves. The eggs may also take on elemental characteristics, such as turning into a fireball, a block of ice, a giant rock, or a mini cyclone. Another threat will be the snoyotes as the sly buggers will follow would be rescuers to find the egg and try to snatch them and run off.
C. Owlet Panic. For the eggs that have already hatched, the owlets will be panicking and very emotional, causing a great environmental disruption around them. From fire storms to massive blizzards, the babies are out of control. Fortunately they're easy to spot—as well as hear. Their high pitched screeches can be heard from long distances. Calming emotions will be key in trying to soothe them, though dremoation abilities may be needed to get to them first.
D. Owlsitter. Whether already hatched or bursting out after returning to mother owl, the little owlets can be quite the handful. They're born already large enough to fly and while they aren't skilled, they will flutter about here and there. Essentially toddlers, they will get into anything that might interest them and cause mischief. With the owlets capable of casting elemental magic, that can pose a problem as sometimes it can go awry.
E. Snoyotes. The snoyotes are a cross between snake and coyote and they rely on their stealth skills rather than offensive power. They will stick to the shadows and can camouflage themselves well. When they do need to fight, they are tenacious and will try to sink their venomous fangs into their assailant. The venom is paralytic and is potent and fast acting. Although not always enough to kill, if enough venom makes its way to the heart then there might be trouble. As mentioned they will follow those looking for eggs to try and snatch them first, but some may be hunting other eggs. It's not necessary to kill them, driving them off to the Wild Canyons will do.

Gone away are the reindeer
Out to play are the dreamers
To lead their return, we gather in snow
All to bring the lost presents home
In the shadows we can build a snowman
To protect the sleigh that's full and bright.
Mimics will attack, and we'll say, "No, man!"
Only the real presents here will do!
We'll raise our mugs to the fire
Raise our voices higher and higher
Then we'll slash through our foes
From head down to their toes
All to save this Christmas Wonderland
Out to play are the dreamers

Raise our voices higher and higher
Then we'll slash through our foes
From head down to their toes
All to save this Christmas Wonderland
In the city we can make some string lights
Beautiful and bright just like the stars
With a little magic, we'll be alright
And top everything off with just a Star
A star so big and bright
with magic all around
shining with all its might
making the world go 'round!
So come join us, all ye citizens
of this little festive town.
Guard your hearts with love and laughter,
and we'll bring this foul Grinch down!

» BONUS: FANG COLLECTION. Although highly potent, the venom stored within the fangs of the snoyotes can be used in anti-venom remedies (and poisons). Collecting them will need some care. In addition, defanging a snoyote is one way to keep it away for those unwilling to kill. Their fangs will grow back so would be an effective way to farm fangs later.

No, I don't feel any different. Just a bit more. As in I know that there's more negative energy pooling inside of me than what I have taken in... At least in a long time.
[ His gaze shifts towards the birds. ]
They were just afraid and upset. That's all it was. Though if I had to say how I feel? Agitated. On edge.
no subject
[The concern and worry is clear on Sora's face. He frowns and brings Vanitas' hands close to hold.]
I don't think it's a good idea for you to keep absorbing this much.
[But what else can they do?]
no subject
[ His hands close around Sora's as much as possible. This... This isn't the only area that has shown signs of change. There are other places. Places that are hidden by clothing most of the time. Things that Vanitas hasn't mentioned. ]
Plus I can't pick and choose when it happens. What would you have me do, Sora?
no subject
[Sora frowns and brings those hands up to hold close to his cheek.]
Every bit helps so you don't hurt as much, right?
[What's this feeling...!?]
no subject
[ Some of the owls flying overhead and are now hooting, maybe a little distressed. Vanitas still cups Sora's cheek though, sighing. ]
I can't seem to really catch a break, huh?
no subject
[He tilts his head to nuzzle Vanitas' hand.]
Maybe you've just gotta practice some positive emotions. Dreamotion magic, you know? Have you tried that yet?
[And those owls can shoo off!]
no subject
[ Because the thought of Sora doing that to Vanitas with the intention of "protection" is kind of funny to think about. And entirely out of character
Just wait Vanitas]But no. You already know I haven't tried anything related to that dreamotion stuff.
[ Been too nervous to try! ]
no subject
[Or could he? Under certain circumstances... Aha. As for the dream magic...]
Okay, so if you haven't yet why don't we try?
no subject
[ Or maybe...
Anyway, the mention of dream magic gets Vanitas frowning all over again. He sighs, rubs at his arm a little bit. ]
I don't know what I'm doing with that stuff, Sora.
no subject
I mean I'm still figuring it all out too. It's tricky at first.
[Especially with the use of emotions and dreams to basically creature one's own effects and magic. It is a pretty huge concept. Sora opens his palm and there on his fingers dance little crackles of fireworks.]
I'm starting to get the hang of it, though. I just have to think about what I'm feeling in the moment a lot.
no subject
I should be better at this. Given my nature, this should come more readily to me.
[ He stares at the palm of his hand. Then looks at Sora's little sparkles. His hand slides over the palm of the other boy's. ]
But I can do something.
[ Which is, of course, healing magic. The only thing he had learned how to do based on his own positive emotions. Prior to this place, of course. ]
no subject
I wanna see.
[He smiles and looks up at the other boy again.]
Focus on what you know and try to make it bigger, how about that?
no subject
[ Vanitas sort of rolls his eyes. Yes, the magic itself feels nice. Sweet. Warm. Welcoming. Because that's really how it should feel. ]
I'm telling you that I can use curative magic because of this emotional magic stuff, but that's about the extent of it. I didn't think that really counted for much.
no subject
[Sora bounces slightly on his heels and keeps his hands together with the other boy.]
If your dreamotion is going to factor into that you should keep trying that!
no subject
[ Or rather, tying the flow of magic to his emotions. More positive ones. That's how Vanitas had initially known that he had gotten to the point where he had been capable of having them. ]
I had to think about the snowball fight, at first. It was the only thing that made me feel something close to happiness at first. Until you came along, anyway.
no subject
It's a lot different than your witch's magic. But if you keep trying new things with those sorts of feelings and memories I bet you could come up with some really neat stuff.
[It isn't to say that Vanitas' use of negative or dark emotions shouldn't be used either. Honestly, if Vanitas used those to create dream magic too it would probably be incredibly powerful??]
Do you want to try something right now?
no subject
[ He points upwards, where the owls are still flying. They're chirping and squawking.
The boys should probably return them to their parent. Guardian. Thing. ]
After we can practice something, I suppose.
no subject
I guess we could work on that along the way. But how are we gonna get them down again?
no subject
[ Since they haven't left the boys to go and cause trouble elsewhere. Or maybe they're just attached to the way Vanitas chases off bad feelings. ]
no subject
Okay! Come on little guys! Follow us back to your mom!
[Firey burning mom bird...]
no subject
Then they decide to fly along in a line behind him. ]
Just what I wanted to be when I grew up. A bird whisperer.
no subject
Haha- Huh! I told you! You're definitely a bird whisperer.
[Or a princess...??
But just up ahead is the area where the large mother owl was last spotted. The ground is scorched with fire. And some of the trees are damaged as well.]
... This might be more dangerous than I first thought.
no subject
[ Vanitas rolls his eyes. Yet the giant bird is... Well it is a little intimidating. Just a little. Because the mother owl isn't really getting angry. Isn't actually coming for them or anything. She just sits there, brooding.
Waiting. ]
I think all we need to do is -
[ Well they are moving all on their own. The bird flock to their mother. ]
no subject
[But he is keeping his gaze out at the birds in the sky! How they start returning to the large fire-owl-mom waiting for them... Soon they are tucked away neatly somewhere near her feet.
Sora has one vague thought... how are they not fried chicken?]
Uh. I guess we did it?
no subject
I guess. At least it looks like we won't have to deal with that giant one's wrath?
