Nice to meet you. My name's Nier. Just thought I should mention there's someone else here with the same name. He's much older than I am and that might be a little confusing. We're different people so I need to make that clear.

Anyway, there's a question that's been on my mind for some time now.

Do you think it's ever okay to tell a lie? I'd like to hear some thoughts because I sometimes wonder if the nightmares here are lies and illusions. They seem so real but sometimes they just aren't.

Back in my world there's something called the Deathdream and I don't know if anyone else has heard of that term before either.

Action Open

[Outside Nier can be found with a tool in hand. There's a toolbox nearby along with several logs of wood just lying around. He's busy trying to build a fence for the gardens. What he really wants to do is help the Corgis in what way he can. He spent most of his life growing up in a smaller village so it was necessary for him to learn various tools of the trade.

Beside him there's also a small patch of flowers growing by the soil bed. If you don't look too busy Nier might look over to your direction and start talking more.]

Do you have a moment? I could use some help watering the plants.

Good to see you again, Susato!! There's a lot of work for us to do today. I hope you've been well.

[Nier is trying to walk carefully around the area because there are a bunch of snare traps just lying around. It could be dangerous.]

So someone really did just left a bunch of traps outside. We need to do something about that. I'm going to do my best and see what we can accomplish today.

It's not like I know anything for sure.

[She just wants to make that part crystal clear, before she says anything more.]

But— shit. There's a million different worlds people are from, right? Some of them are even kind of similar to one another. Or you've got shit like my meeting Tifa somewhere else before I came here, but she doesn't remember me. The way I see it, anything's possible. Doesn't seem to be any rules.

[She can't say she knows what that means, but:]

I trust my memories. The experiences I had with Nier. Maybe our worlds are— mirrored. Almost the same, but some of the story is a little different.

[Kainé only gives a stiff nod in response; her own feelings for Tifa are quite fond, as well, but have little impact on the point she's trying to get across.]

Just taking it in stride as best I can. Don't think we're gonna get any definite answers either way, so I'm not about to waste time worrying about it.

[It is what it is, whether or not they ever get a full explanation. It wouldn't matter much, anyway— it wouldn't change anything.]

But... I appreciate the trust. I know it can't have been easy, showing up here and finding out I didn't know who you were.

Good thing I don't really make a habit of apologizing.

[She gives an amused snort without looking up, but does proceed to water the flowers like he'd asked for help with.]

You been keeping yourself busy here?

[Seems like the best thing any of them can do for themselves.]

What?

[Safe to say she hasn't seen anything like it. Instruments, sure— she's seen plenty of people play those back home, and it wouldn't surprise her to find something else like it here, but she hasn't encountered any objects like the one he's loosely describing.]

You mean it plays it all on its own, without anyone having to pull any strings or blow into it?

[Huh.]

No kidding. I've seen all kinds of shit here that never would have turned up back there— least not in one piece.

[Shades dropped all kinds of ruined gadgets that they didn't understand, and the Junk Heap was like another world entirely.]

You think maybe... ancient humans had stuff like this?

Yeah, I'm familiar with the floating magazine.

[She scowls slightly at the mention of his name, but there's something oddly affectionate about it.]

He might've known at one point, but how much you wanna bet he'd forgotten?

[That seemed to be an issue for him.]

Might've been too helpful if he remembered all that seemingly endless knowledge he once had. Can't have that.

Mostly I just think he likes the sound of his own stupid voice.

[At his question, she smiles to herself, getting down on one knee to better reach one of the plants she's set out to water.]

... heh. That's easy. 'Cram it up your index.'

[A classic.]

Yeah? Make sure you do. As for the rest, just write shit down.

[It's frank, straightforward advice, but Kainé's never been one to beat around the bush.]

We've got those journals. Use 'em to keep track of what you learn. Share shit with other people. Seems like folks are real into that kind of garbage here.

[You know, working together and problem-solving. Chump stuff.]

My grandma taught me.

[The answer is straightforward, succinct— her parents hadn't lived long enough to teach her much of anything, but she did at least know the basics before her grandmother insisted she keep up with it.]

She wanted to be sure that no matter what happened, I'd be able to look after myself. Said that stuff was important. She's who taught me to garden, too. Pretty much everything, really.

[Kali was a formidable woman in many ways.]
