Nice to meet you. My name's Nier. Just thought I should mention there's someone else here with the same name. He's much older than I am and that might be a little confusing. We're different people so I need to make that clear.

Anyway, there's a question that's been on my mind for some time now.

Do you think it's ever okay to tell a lie? I'd like to hear some thoughts because I sometimes wonder if the nightmares here are lies and illusions. They seem so real but sometimes they just aren't.

Back in my world there's something called the Deathdream and I don't know if anyone else has heard of that term before either.

[Outside Nier can be found with a tool in hand. There's a toolbox nearby along with several logs of wood just lying around. He's busy trying to build a fence for the gardens. What he really wants to do is help the Corgis in what way he can. He spent most of his life growing up in a smaller village so it was necessary for him to learn various tools of the trade.

Beside him there's also a small patch of flowers growing by the soil bed. If you don't look too busy Nier might look over to your direction and start talking more.]

Do you have a moment? I could use some help watering the plants.

Good to see you again, Susato!! There's a lot of work for us to do today. I hope you've been well.

[Nier is trying to walk carefully around the area because there are a bunch of snare traps just lying around. It could be dangerous.]

So someone really did just left a bunch of traps outside. We need to do something about that. I'm going to do my best and see what we can accomplish today.

[ Similarly, Susato has also been trained from an early age to put others before herself, though that was perhaps not quite her father's intent. Either way, she just shakes her head--but not in a dismissive way, because she definitely appreciates the sentiment. ]

Oh, no. It's much too soon for that. But we can take turns, alright?

That way, neither of us will tire too quickly.

You're absolutely right! We can take turns and together we'll get through this without a problem.

Is it okay if I think of you as a friend? You've always been so considerate and kind. I can hardly think of you as a stranger.

[He's spoken to Susato a few times and Nier's already met her father in Reverein. Yujin Mikotoba is really nice. ]

. . . What? [ Stranger? Nier, she's had you over at her house! The question comes as such a surprise, Susato is stunned for a moment, forgetting all about the traps they're looking for. ] Oh, Nier, of course we're friends.

We could stand to get to know each other better, but we're hardly strangers. That's why I was looking forward to spending today with you.

Right! I'd be happy to know you more too, Susato.

[ She's always been pleasant to be around and overly earnest. Nier likes talking to her and being friends too. ]

You know speaking of that I believe I've met your father already. His name is Yujin Mikotoba, isn't it?

Oh! [ Susato sounds surprised, but pleasantly so. Her expression softens. First Kazuma, and now her father. ]

That's him, yes. How did you two meet?

[ Did he try to adopt you-- ]

I spoke with him over the journals once or twice.

He was really kind and invited me over to the greenhouse. When we were talking I think he was busy with something important.

A council for order. Would you know anything about that?

[ Nier did speak with Susato's father for some time about law and making guidelines for Reverein. He seemed an equally intelligent man, much like his own daughter Susato. Both of them are really smart. ]

[ Yes, Susato definitely remembers that day. She had worked with him in the greenhouse, and even did some tidying around the house, since she wasn't sure what company they could expect, between his address over the journal and Dr Mathis having plans to visit. ]

I do. [ For being 17 years old, she's more familiar with politics than probably most others her age. ] We discussed it as a family a little over a month ago now, over Christmas, when crime was just starting to run rampant.

Unfortunately, we've been rather distracted since, but I am glad he finally found the time to speak up.

I hope everything works out for you and your family. I'm not all that good at law stuff but I told him what I thought about everything.

[ Nier just suggested that a little flexibility in the council wouldn't be such a bad idea. Yujin seemed very open to hearing different thoughts. ]

Your dad listened to it all and he's really patient! Is your dad always so approachable and kind? He's a good guy.

...That sounds like him.

[ Susato chuckles, continuing to look this way and that for more traps, though they seem to have hit a bit of a dry area with nothing to speak off. It's good - no animals being hurt, and they get a little more time to talk. ]

What did you tell him? Do you know anyone who would be fitting for a seat on the council?

I told him I supported his ideas but I also believe that the council should be able to adapt to new situations when they come up.

We don't know a whole lot about this world and it's always changing. Wouldn't that mean the council needs to change too?

He really took time to listen to everything. Your father is incredible.

[ It seems like a big proposal but it's an idea he tossed out for the time being. Surely Susato might have more experience with law enforcement studies than Nier. ]

[ She certainly does have the experience, but it's been some months now without her law texts, and if you asked, she'd definitely have to admit she's been slacking. It's rather humbling to realize this fact, though without a library of sorts, there really isn't anything she can do about it for the moment.

...There's a nod, as she easily agrees with all of what Nier is saying. Anyone who joins this council would have to be very amenable to change, as they learn more things about Reverein, and--not that Yujin is resistant to change, by any means, but she thinks that might be the reason he would prefer younger, fresher faces. ]

He is a very good professor, and a good listener to his students. If I am honest, however, I do not believe he will want a major role in this council. He merely wished to put forth the idea... I think the clinic will keep him rather busy otherwise.

It sure looks like it. There are people here who would definitely use a clinic. Sometimes I find myself exhausted after a long fight. It's reassuring to know we'd have a place to rest and heal.

[ Okay, that's enough idle chit chat. Nier walks up and tries to search for the other traps and some are cleverly hidden behind bushes or obscured from view. It will really take some time to get all of these traps removed. ]

Wanna know something? I really think you and your father can do anything.

[ At the very least, each trap seems to take them less time to dispatch. They truly are getting the hang of things, which is why it takes a moment for Nier's words to process. ]

Ah... Anything?

. . . I suppose that is how things should be, in a dream. [ They should be able to do whatever they want, with only their imagination as the limit. If only things were that simple. ] Sometimes I think father is worried that he doesn't have the same affinity for dreamotion that I do. Hopefully once the clinic is more established, he will see that he does not need it.

I remember telling your dad something about dreamotion once. I told him that it can help grow plants and flowers.

[ Nier believes that thinking positively helps manifest the energy needed for growing flowers. ]

He seemed really surprised it could be applied that way. Have you tried growing plants with dreamotion, Susato?

[ She shakes her head, though the idea doesn't seem completely foreign to her. Sadly, at this point in time, she still doesn't know anyone with that kind of control over plants. ]

I haven't. Do you know how, Nier?
