FLOWER FESTIVAL 2022

The three day Flower Festival has started and the town is covered in blooming flowers, music, smell of good food, and excited atmosphere. Full details on everything can be found here, but an important reminder that this event log doubles as our Test Drive Meme and information can be found in this section.

This means any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in April and will remain in Songerein for the rest of the month of April. However, outside characters can only thread within this log, so for those seriously considering the game, you are welcome to use non-festival prompts for your toplevels. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count April as their first month in the game, so all content will carry over.

IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.

TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Sunday, April 24th and Applications will open on May 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until July.

I. FLOWER VIEWING

There are gardens and flowers everywhere, but the main central location for the flower viewing is around the eastern side of town between the treehouses and the outside fields. Here there are plenty of both open and shaded spaces anyone can take to sit back, have a picnic, and enjoy the flowers blooming in the trees and along the ground. Food stalls are stationed by the treehouses for anyone who needs a meal and they provide blankets and picnic baskets as well.

A. Flower Crowns. Can't enjoy a flower viewing without flower crowns! There's an abundance of flowers that can just be taken and used to make them, but there are folks who go around and pass some out for those unable to. Or perhaps flower pixies may "bless" people with special flower crowns, tailor made with flowers that match the individual's personality. Once worn, the flowers will reflect the mood of the wear and may even grow depending on how much positive emotion they soak up from the wearer. That crown may become more of a headdress.

B. Flower Serenade. Although it's meant to be a calm, relaxing affair, the flowers are drinking in the festive atmosphere and now have a tendency to sing their joy. They are especially drawn to any couples and will start to serenade them with…an assortment of "romantic" songs. Some may be persuaded via calm emotions to quiet down to a more melodious hum while others may be a little more obnoxious.

C. Flower Maze. In one of the fields, a special flower maze has been erected made of hedges and questionably large flowers, their petals spanning several feet in length. These flowers will move and shift, using their petals to create sudden dead ends and new openings to alter the paths through the maze. No pushing past! The petals will be resistant. If a couple is being particularly flirtatious, they'll curl out and drop down to form a kind of "flower curtain" with their petals surrounding the pair. Whether it's to give the couple privacy or to shield innocent eyes, who's to say. In this scenario the petals can be easily brushed away and the flower will lift up to return to its position.

II. ENTERTAINMENT

All along the market square and the riverbank, stores and booths line the streets to provide goods, food, and entertainment for all festival goers.

A. Music and Dance. In the Central Plaza near the Tree of Memories is a cleared off area with a stage platform set up. Here anyone is welcome to grab an instrument, the microphone, and start singing or playing music to entertain the crowds. The floor is open for anyone to dance along or even show off a special dance performance of their own. Flower petals will join along as well, swirling through the melodious winds and even taking on the shape of some of the music notes.

B. Game booths. Come one, come all! Try out the various carnival games on offer. The game booths can be found lining around the riverbank and while there are many, here are some of the more popular ones:

  • Pebble Toss. Use dreamotion to change the color of a pebble and toss it into a bucket of water. The bigger the effect on the water, the more points scored. Earn enough points to win a prize!

  • Goose Rings. Try to toss a ring around the neck of a goose sculpture. Which is, of course, magically enchanted to move around and dodge the rings. Being a goose, the sculpture is a bit of a jerk; it’s attuned to players’ dreamotion energy and will absolutely move around more as they get frustrated, so keeping one’s cool is important.

  • Bubble Pop! Use dreamotion darts to pop magical bubbles floating across a board. Can be played alone (score points by popping as many of one color as possible) or competitively (whoever pops the most of their color wins).

  • Flighty Flowers. Create colorful paper flowers and use them to craft a floating lantern. The higher and further the lantern flies, the bigger the prize earned. Or, if one is especially creative or creates especially colorful flowers, they may just win a big prize regardless of how high it flies. Players can keep their lanterns if they wish.

  • Smash! Toss balls at a series of bottles to try and knock them over. To keep with the theme of the festival, the bottles are tiny terrariums. Thanks to the magic of the festival,, the plants inside the bottles remain undisturbed no matter how many times they’re knocked over.

  • Swan Boat Races. Find a boating partner and participate in a timed race where you have to navigate through obstacles and try to post the fastest time with fewest penalties. Use dreamotion to get through obstacles like ramps, slow whirlpools that will cause the boat to spin in place, turbulent waters, etc. If not interested in the races, people are welcome to help paint and decorate the swan boats! They have to match the mood of the festival, after all.

III. TREE OF MEMORIES

At the center of town is a giant tree that is as tall as a clock tower and with giant books about as tall as a person hanging off its branches. There are a few attractions set up here and there are also some small owls that fly around and greet anyone who come by. They serve as the "guardians" of the tree, and should anyone try to harm it, they will converge together to form a giant owl to deal with them.

A. Dream Petals. As the Tree's petals fall, anyone who manages to catch one before it hits the ground will find their secret dream reflected on it. It could be something they are longing for or something they wish to keep from anyone. Once the dream's reflection is complete, it will remain on the petal and can be viewed at any time.

B. Dreamscape Rooms. Selected by the owls, a few of the books can be found lying open on the ground. Everything is blank—there are no titles, no words, no pictures. The owl will beckon anyone who wants a "fun adventure" to dreamwalk into the book and have an adventure through its pages. It could be any established fairy tale, folklore, myth, legend or perhaps something random. The "players" will be thrown into random roles for the story and will need to complete at least three objectives (which can be handwaved). There is a one hour time limit so if anyone is unable to get through the story, the owls will yank them (safely) out and the book will remain on the ground for another group to try their luck. If they succeed, the story will magically appear on its pages and the book will hang proudly on the tree's branches.

C. Soaring Butterflies. Ever wanted to just ride on something huge and enjoy the flight? There are giant butterflies that are large and strong enough to carry up to three people on their backs. These butterflies are actually local to Songerein and brought in by a native Fae. Whether that makes them more or less trustworthy is up to the character, but the butterflies are definitely frisky—and fast.

D. Book Cages. Sometimes something a little weird happens around the Tree. Black wispy energy will seep from the hanging books and they will suddenly drop down on unsuspecting visitors, especially anyone who has a lot of love in them. The book will open and the pages will fly out like walls and trap the victim before it transforms into a cage and hurls them back up high into the tree. Although unharmed, the prisoner will start feeling some of their feelings of love being drained away and making them more irritable and hateful towards things. It will be up to someone else to try and get them out. Fortunately it's not too difficult a task—just need to get up that tree somehow and break through the iron-paper bars. Some fire should do the trick. The problem is, it needs to be fire made from dreamotion and focused on some variant of love or loyalty. It doesn't have to be towards the prisoner at least, so anyone should be able to help. However, the tree seems intent in keeping the prisoner, so thorny vines will try and smack anyone away. The owls will also try to assist, but they're kind of small and useless and can't use their ultimate transformation to harm the tree. Maybe the Giant Butterflies might be useful?

IV. FINAL DAY

On the third and final day of the festival, the winners of the Flower King and Queen contest are announced. However, there's a huge surprise as everyone finds themselves in a costume. While all contest participants have their own "Royal Court" theme, everyone else will find themselves suddenly dressed like a flower. There are a lot of variations from elegant to downright silly. Best(?) of all, the costumes will stay on until sundown. While parts may be loosened, altered, and removed for a short period of time, the costume will refuse to be changed out of and any attempts will be futile.

A. Flower Power. While some may feel very…uncomfortable in their new "wardrobe," others are having a blast with the small powers that come with the costume. With just a wave of their hand flowers will appear and bloom, and they will leave a trail of flowers wherever they go. But most importantly, they have glitter pollen which is to help bring about love and joy to all! However, not everyone is enjoying the glitter all over the place and some are growing more irritable and hateful instead, which is twisting their own pollen to spread negative feelings instead. Help soothe the unhappy ones and clean up the mess!

B. Flowerworks. Once sundown hits and everyone is back to their usual attire, a call is made to announce the "Flowerworks" presentation and for all to gather out into the fields. The moment the sun is completely set and the stars appear in the strange, moonless sky, a light will shoot up and burst into a beautiful, flowery display. It's a fireworks show, but instead of using traditional fireworks, glowing flowers are sent up instead, their petals illuminating brightly as they drift harmlessly down to the crowds.

a: [If there's one thing Peggy isn't a fan of, it's the unexpected. She liked to know exactly what's happening, have a plan, and execute the plan with no hitches. She liked to be in control. And right now, she's very much not in control.

She's trying to relax and adjust to her new settings, but that doesn't mean she has to like that she was pulled to a new strange world without her consent.

So here she is, doing her best to put on a content face as she peruses the festival, when--

She realized something was coming up behind her all too late, and a pixie dropped a ring of snapdragons, statice, and iris' onto her head. She's startled, for sure, and she definitely takes it off to look at it. The pixie dances in front of her, as if upset that she removed it, but she wanted to examine the beauty. It's been a long time since she's read up on floral language, but she remembers enough that brings the hint of a smile to her face.]

Thank you. Sorry, can you even understand me? [maybe she's talking to it for no reason, but as she puts the crown back on, deciding to just roll with it, the pixie seems pleased and flies away.]

b: [It's getting easier for Peggy to enjoy herself as the days go on. She's meandering, just taking it all in, when she finally comes up to the large tree. A tree with giant books hanging from it.

...Strange, to stay the least.

It's still fascinating, but as she's looking around, a falling petal catches her attention, floating in the wind close to her. As it drops, she holds her hand out to catch it, but the second it lands in her hand and she gets a good look at it, she stifles a gasp.

It was her and Steve, dancing away, both looking adoringly at the other. They're laughing, and smiling, and holding each other close, in the way they never would. The pit of her stomach drops to see it playing out before her eyes, but she can't look away, the happiness she sees it being one of her greatest desires. It finally stops playing, leaving an image of her in Steve's arms, and she wraps her fingers around it and holds it close to her chest.]

[There's a young lady nearby who's admiring the sights around the giant tree. But among the surroundings, she also notices a person - one who seems troubled by a petal in her hands. Gina feels awkward as she watches her clutch the petal, as if she's intruding on something private, but she can't help but try to check on the woman.]

Er... Sorry. Are ya alright there? [She asks tentatively, with her distinctive Cockney accent.]

[Peggy's so engrossed in her own emotions that she nearly jumps when she's spoken to. She hurriedly brushes her eyes with her finger, careful not to mess up any of her makeup.]

I-- yes. Yes, I am. [She clears her throat, trying to bring back the appearance of a strong, independent woman that didn't need a man, but it's impossible to hide the fact that Steve Rogers will always be her weakness.

Also hello fellow Londoner! She can't help but notice the accent, and files it in the back of her mind.]

Or I will be, all the same.

[personal profile] lestray 2022-04-13 05:00 am (UTC)(link)
[Yep, definitely feeling like she intruded on something private. She lowers her hat slightly, knowing she doesn't like others seeing her sensitive side most of the time. It really stinks when something that hits you hard comes out of nowhere like that.]

Right. I.... I think I get what ya mean.

[She needs some time after whatever happened. Or a distraction.]

If it'll 'elp ya out, we can 'ave ourselves a natter 'bout sometin' unrelated. That sound nice?

[Honestly, Peggy wonders if she'll ever truly be okay. Losing Steve felt like losing a piece of her heart that could never be filled, but she had to keep moving and stay strong anyway. So she puts on her best smile, and gives the other woman a small nod.]

That sounds quite lovely, actually. [Even though she wouldn't mind talking about Steve. Sometimes it felt worse to pretend he didn't exist, rather than actually acknowledge him.] I only just arrived here recently, so I'd love to hear what you know about this place.

[She's going to carefully put the petal in a pocket as she speaks, just so she knows she won't misplace it. Can't be losing Steve again, after all.]

[Distraction is more Gina's forte when it comes to dealing with heavy things. Why talk about things and feel vulnerable when you can just talk about different things instead.]

I've only been around for 'round a month or so meself, but I know enough to fill ya in on the basics. Like 'ow this place is a dream, but it feels real as can be? An' ya can still sleep an' all that. Stuff like that.

[She offers a friendly smile.]

My name's Gina, by the way. Gina Lestrade!

[If there's one thing Otto despises right now, it's large crowds. He's barely gotten along with people here to begin with, and ever since some 7 foot tall half-deer fellow choked him through shadow replica, he's even less social. It's fine, he doesn't need other people around him. He doesn't need anyone- No one but the whispers of his mechanical limbs.

Unfortunately, he still needs to eat. Something easy and fast, as it always is, so he doesn't waste precious time on preparing his meals. There's always more work to be done. For that reason, he sticks to the very edges of the festival grounds, hiding in the shadows that have fallen on the very first evening. The crowd has thinned here, with only a few stragglers walking by every so often.

The first thing Peggy may see is a red light looming up in the shadows of an alleyway. Something small, ominous only in its color. A few seconds later, the origin of this phenomenon is revealed as a metallic tentacle slips out into the open, several feet above the ground. The red light is embedded within the center of its claw, which is wide open. It swoops over to a nearby food stall, snatches up two hotdogs (with bun), then immediately retracts itself back into the alley before the vendor can realize anything's missing.

It's not even really theft; everything is free in this world. Otto just can't be bothered to interact with people.]

[Peggy's mind is still reeling from the vision the pedal gave her. She decided to get away from the crowds, to get better control of her emotions. It's still fresh, the pain of pouring the last sample of Steve's blood into the Hudson River. Seeing what could have been seemed like a knife in her chest, but she's starting to feel better, even if she refuses to let go of the pedal hidden tightly in her hand.

But as she's sitting on the bench, listening to the faint sounds of people laughing and enjoying the festival, she can't help but notice the tentacle appears from the alley. It's startling, to say the least, but even as she moves to her feet, immediately on the defensive, it simply....grabs the food and disappears.

...Okay, now she's curious. She tucks the pedal carefully into her pocket, before stepping closer to the alley, still on guard. She has no idea what she just witnessed, but it the metal claw made her think of something Stark would create.]

Hello? Is someone there?
sciencesquid: (Plz he needs to rest)

[personal profile] sciencesquid 2022-04-13 06:53 am (UTC)(link)
[There's a very particular clicking sound coming from the alley. It's the vertebrae of the tentacle snapping back into place and knocking against one another. But it's not just that one tentacle; all of them are on the move when Peggy speaks up, whipping sideways to face her. Now it's not just one red light looming in the dimly-lit alley, it's four.

And then there's the guy they're attached to. Otto doesn't look her way. He's standing close to the wall, his eyes caught on the hotdogs in his hand. (Once a New Yorker, always a New Yorker.) He's looking a little scruffy, a little unkempt. Since the sun is close to setting, he's not wearing his shades. Because of that, if the light of a distant street lamp hits him just right, dark circles beneath his eyes are quite visible. This man has not been sleeping enough.]

... Stand down.

[He's addressing the tentacles, who lower themselves out of their hostile stances just a bit. Two of them close their maws, but the other two are still showing off their sharp claws.]

[personal profile] cookshisgoose 2022-04-14 12:03 am (UTC)(link)
[Peggy would be lying if she said the glow from the four tentacles wasn't frightening. But then the man speaks, and they listen, and she watches as two of them close their maws.

Another step towards him, and her eyes finally adjust enough that she can see where the tentacles lead, and to the man they're attached to. She can't tell how they're attached, just that they're most definitely coming from him.

The more she sees of them, the more fascinating she finds them. Stark would be having a field day.]

Did you make them? They seem quite handy. [Probably not the smartest thing, trying to make small talk now of all times, but she's interested, and honestly, if he's hanging out this far away from the festival, he probably feels about as out of place as her.]
sciencesquid: (Miserable all the time)

[personal profile] sciencesquid 2022-04-14 10:09 am (UTC)(link)
[It's inevitable that people approach him from time to time to pester him with questions. He doesn't like it, but he tolerates it all the same. He discovered some time ago that there are people around here more powerful than he is, at least as far as 'magic' is concerned. Those same people won't hesitate to kick him from atop their high horse if he steps too far out of the lines they themselves have drawn. If it's a choice between enduring small talk and getting tossed back into the prison tree because he lashed out, he'll take the small talk.]

They are handy. That's the point of them.

[... There's no condiments on these hotdogs. Excuse him, he needs to send another tentacle out there to fetch the ketchup. It slips out just as deftly as before, extending its length perfectly through a telescoping principle.]

[ Susato watches as the pixie flies away, wearing a smile on her face like she's somewhere far away. It is probably wrong of her to be just a little charmed by the sight of Peggy in such an elaborate crown. At the very least, it's better than anything she was about to offer her--even if the ones she makes are cool, and can magically shrink to fit your head or your wrist.

She approaches Peggy, just to say hi, placing the crown she was about to offer back on her wrist. There seem to be one or two others there too, which isn't out of place for the festival; and the crown on her own head is also made of vibrant purple irises. ]

It's lovely. Though you have plenty of options, if you decide that you want to try something different.
