[Semi-Closed] Catching Up

What: An August catch-all post. This is mostly closed to specific people, but if anyone wants to do anything with G'raha, I am happy to start a TL. Feel free to poke me on plurk (

Warnings: As always, there will likely be Shadowbringers & Endwalker spoilers in comments. I will mark them accordingly. I have an opt-out post with options to tell me how far you are in the game. Please make use of this if you are still playing. You do not need to opt-out completely, but just telling me where you are in the story helps me a lot to know what I can or cannot talk about.

[G'raha had invited Thancred over for some tea (or coffee) for the hell of it. Since Y'shtola and Merisia woke up and returned home, he had been trying to keep up with his friends more. Y'shtola he had worried about with her sight here, so as much as he was sad to see her go, he wanted her to be okay. Merisia may not have been willing to outwardly call him a friend, but he had no issues calling her his. Even if there was still a lot to learn about her. With her gone now and her precious Carbuncles left behind, there was no way he could just ignore them. Two of them had found other homes, leaving him with Emerald, Topaz, and Rhodonite.]

Ah, you'll have to excuse them. They're adjusting to the new living environment. What would you prefer to drink?

[Heading towards the kitchen, he beckoned Thancred to follow as Topaz silently followed them around aside from it's tiny footsteps clicking behind them. Rhodonite was idly lying down on the couch, taking everything in. Emerald was the only one not in the area, no doubt looking around at it's new home.]

[Thancred hadn't been to surprised to get an invite from G'raha for tea, considering they had a few friends disappear on them recently. Keep your friends close, right? (Especially ones that had a tendency to disappear on their own anyway.)]

That is... a few carbuncles. How did you end up with so many?

Also, tea, please.

[Tea it is. He'll start prepping a blend that Madhuri recently brought home.]

Ah, well. [Letting out a small sigh.] They were Merisia's carbuncles, but she's since woken up. I couldn't leave them all alone, so I brought them here.

[Coming out with a cup for both of them, he took a seat at the table nearest to them. Offering his cup, he set it down before him.]

Merisia... I don't think I met her before she woke up.

[He sighs, visits here seem fleeting, in their own way.]

So you gained custody of three carbuncles... and you're living with Madhuri...

[He grins.]

Did I miss the wedding?

[He was fine up until he heard the 'W' word. And unfortunately for G'raha, he was mid-sip when he heard it, doing a spit take shortly after. Not sorry, Thancred. He set the cup down quickly enough, careful not to spill as his cheeks flushed a bright red.]

W-Wedding?! I- That's not... Where did you get that idea?!

[Gods. And like most things, living together with Madhuri has been great, but hearing it said out loud was different.]

I-I assure you, there has been so such thing! [Yet.]

[Thank you for that face full of tea, G'raha. He reaches for a napkin and wipes down his face. He's laughing a little though.]

G'raha, my friend.

You're living with her. And have three aether children. Granted, they're adopted, but still. Three. Children.

[WHY. WHY ARE YOU LIKE THIS? Shoving his face in his hands now.]

C-Carbuncles hardly count as children.

[He's not fighting the "you're living with her" part of it, though. The room grew hotter as steam started to form around him.]

[Did you miss the fine print on the Scion contract? 'Dealing with Thancred 'frat boy' Waters' is in there somewhere. Comes with the benefits.]

Are you sure? They're cute kids.

[He notices that part, don't worry buddy.]

[At this point, he'll stop teasing for right now, picking up one of the cups of tea and taking a sip of it.]

This is a good blend.

[It's always there. Thancred is just doing his duty. He knows Thancred was just messing with him, but the idea of marrying Madhuri made his heart beat faster. Was that something to think about? Most of the stuff that's happened so far in the relationship had been purely unintentional until it reached that point. All good feelings, of course, but his inexperience made it hard to gauge what exactly you do in these circumstances.

Hands finally removed from his face, he rested one on his chest as if to try to calm down.]

It's... a blend Madhuri brought home... Full glad am I that you like it.

[He just grins, leaving it at that.]

[Then changes the subject.]

So, it seems people being here is fleeting then? First Y'shtola, then Merisia...

[He has a feeling that it's not completely off the table, but he's glad that he's letting it rest for the time being. Instead, he focused on his tea as he listened quietly. Taking a sip, he let a sigh out a moment after.]

Alisaie was here when I first arrived as well, but soon she left over maybe a month later as well, only to come back with no memories of being here. I haven't told her that she was here previously, only because it didn't seem like it would do any good.

I am glad they are able to return home, but there is a part of me that does miss having them around. And the others I have not seen in over half a year now. I will admit that I'm not quite ready to return either, as selfish as that may be.

[G'raha probably doesn't have to elaborate on why to Thancred, when he was just teasing him about the cause not too long ago.]

[Thancred pauses to think... at least he has tea while he pretends to be Y'shtola for the moment.]

Makes one wonder. Do they think the entire thing was a dream and cast it off? And I agree it was probably not useful to say something to Alisae. Knowing her, she would try to find out what happened before.

[He smirks behind his teacup. G'raha doesn't have to say it, Thancred knows what he means... and would probably say the same thing, if he were in that situation.]

It would not be a shock if they did. What about us? When we inevitably wake up, will we think the same thing? That it was just some sort of strange dream?

Knowing that any one of us could disappear at anytime... It may be important to do what you want to, within reason, while we still can. It's best not to leave with regrets over not doing or saying something.

[Which that comment in its own reminded him to maybe think about that fact more closely himself.

As they contemplated, Topez sheepishly rubbed its head against Thancred's leg before acting as if it just happened to be there. Smiling a little to Topez...]

It seems like it's fond of you. Mayhaps the companionship would be good for you?

[Thancred doesn't say anything to the first part, just giving G'raha this look that's a combination of 'oh really?' and 'That Dad Look'. Think about what you just said, my man.

But he won't vocalize it.

Instead, he looks down at the carbuncle.]

Maybe. I don't know much about the arts involved with a carbuncle, will it be fine with my lack of aether?

[Sllliiiding past that. He knows what he said.]

Well, the fact that they're still around suggests that it's not necessarily to know. If nothing else, you know where to find me if they need anything.

[They're absolutely adults, aren't they?]

Good point.

I'll give it a try, if anything goes wrong I'll let you know. But from what I understand, they aren't hard to take care of, are they?

From the time I've spent with them, I haven't had any issues thus far.

Topez aside, how have you faired so far? Keeping yourself busy here?
