[Semi-Closed] Catching Up
Who: G'raha Tia & Various people
Which: Semi-closed log
Where: Various locations
What: An August catch-all post. This is mostly closed to specific people, but if anyone wants to do anything with G'raha, I am happy to start a TL. Feel free to poke me on plurk (
byefelicia) if you are interested.
Warnings: As always, there will likely be Shadowbringers & Endwalker spoilers in comments. I will mark them accordingly. I have an opt-out post with options to tell me how far you are in the game. Please make use of this if you are still playing. You do not need to opt-out completely, but just telling me where you are in the story helps me a lot to know what I can or cannot talk about.

Hythlodaeus; [Endwalker spoilers likely]
Do you need a hand with anything?
[It was better to see where he can help than find something to do if something was already being worked on. Better to help out where he can.]
I.... I thought I tagged this...
Ah, indeed I do.
[He gestures out to the water.]
I must confess, I'm not used to examining creatures in the way the survey would like outside of a controlled environment. [A wry smile.] And it's been longer than I'd like since I've looked at an aquatic creature in the water.
No worries! It happens.
[He paused for a moment before considering...]
Elpis, perhaps?
[Not that he personally knew anything about it beyond what the Warrior of Light told him. Maybe Amaurot?]

[Hythlodaeus shakes his head.]
Not for our step in the process, anyway. The Bureau of the Architect deals primarily in the cataloguing and initial evaluation of concepts for approval. Purpose, structure, suitability, innovation vs innovation, and so on and so forth. The simplest way to explain is that we judge the idea while they test the reality.
[With multiple other bureaucracy-based complexities here and there amongst other things, but he's likely to give himself a headache if he starts getting into all that.]
As such, we have several testing chambers for our evaluations. Nothing too spectacular, but containing all we need to suit our purposes, as well as concept crystals to draw upon should we require anything extra.

[It wasn't something that he was familiar with, but the ancients were remarkable beings. It wasn't entirely surprising to hear they held sway over which creatures existed.]
Would you require anything in order to catelogue the creatures found here? I would be happy to assist however I can. What are these concept crystals like?
[He could take a number of guesses, but he's just as interested in hearing about it from someone who knows about the topic better.]
no subject
A tank to place the creatures in should be enough. It may not be the most efficient way, but hopefully it will allow us to gather a sufficient amount of data.
As for your other question... While one might be able to conjure up whatsoever he desires from his own thoughts and memory, bringing forth that which someone else has thought up is another matter entirely.
Thus were concept crystals conceived to hold all the information needed to bring forth a creation the way its creator intended, whether it be as simple as a new set of robes or as complex as a confluence.
no subject
[He'll start looking around the area of where they were to see if there was anything that would fit that description as he listened to his explanation.]
In a way, these concept crystals could be considered blueprints then. It's a logical step, all things considered. And if we think about job stones or the power that crystals hold, it's not so strange.
Creation magicks are indeed wondrous. It's a shame that normal civilians from my time do not possess this ability. But like any ability, it could be used for good or bad alike.

[Says the man more than happy to worm his way around it when it suits both him and his dearest friends.]
Truth be told, I still labor to believe you and yours are incapable of it. Is there really no one at all that can weave creation magicks in your day?
no subject
There's nothing that can be done about that now. And while we may not possess as much aether, we make up for it in other ways.
[Ultima Thule may not have been possible if they didn't have a closer glimpse of dynamis, aside from all their risks and sacrifices.
--Oh! A tank. Perfect.]

[The word is unfamiliar, and yet Hythlodaeus believes he can see where it might have come from. That sudden, loud crack from Emet-Selch's nightmare, the distorted souls it left behind.
That life on Etheirys had somehow managed to patch itself back together in some semblance of an ordered soul--frail though it may be--is nothing short of a miracle.]
Ah. Here, let me help you with that.
[He reaches for one end of the tank and lifts]
Just near the water's edge. Then we fill it.
no subject
With his help, they brought it to the water's edge, finding a container of some sort to fill it up.]
My thanks. This should do nicely.
no subject
By the by, it occurs to me just how little I know of the Etheirys of your time.
[Emet-Selch has shared a few snippets of information, but they've come few and far between. Not that Hythlodaeus has any plans to push the man at the moment, especially not with the information he has gleaned.]
Is there anything you can think of that our peoples share? And what of yourself? Pray forgive me if I'm wrong, but you seem quite at ease with this sort of work.
no subject
I could say the same for you. The only knowledge I have is what the Warrior of Light has shared with us. I'm used to reading about things in books or hearing about them, but nothing beats a firsthand experience.
[He paused for a moment as he listened thoughtful to his questions.]
Well, I think it's important to remember that despite our differences, we all want the same thing. To protect our star and the people residing on it. If I've learned anything from my experiences, it's that people can accomplish incredible things deigned to be impossible when we all work together.
I haven't done something like this before, but helping with tasks -- big or small -- is nothing new. I know there are many people here who may not want to be here, but I like to think of this opportunity as a grand adventure waiting to be explored.
I confess I am equally curious about how things are in your time. Feel free to ask me anything, and I'll do my best to answer.
no subject
Forgive me. I mean no offense. Some of what you said just now reminds me of a dear friend of mine--the more adventurous comments in particular.
[This man wasn't Azem by any means. Even taking any returns to the star into account, G'raha's soul wasn't the right hue. But the sentiment was so similar it was impossible to think of anyone else.]
no subject
Is that so? What are they like, if you don't mind me asking.
[He looked out towards the water idly for a moment, taking that comment in.]
It may be silly, but I spent a lot of my childhood wishing to be like the heroes I'd heard and read so much about. I'd always wanted to go on a grand adventure and be just like them, but my chance never came. Reality got in the way of that dream.
[Glancing back now with a fond smile.]
Even so, I don't think anything I've done or gone through was time wasted. They were all very important chapters in my life. There are things I wish I would have done differently, but I don't think I could ever take them back.
no subject
Especially with the way you look upon your journey to where you are now.
[A people broken and sundered, but still shining bright, Hythlodaeus thought as he looked out at the water. Similar to his own, yet still so youthful, growing and forging themselves a new path as they found their places.
He looked forward to learning as much as he could about them.]
As for that friend of mine, I think you'd like them. Always eager, that one, quick to leap to the aid of another without the slightest thought to their own safety. And never one to remain in one place besides. I can't think of another soul more suited to the seat of the Traveler.
no subject
[The Final Days were not the best time for the grand adventure he hoped for, but it was one nonetheless. For a moment, the way that he described his friend made him recall his own. And then...]
Ah, Azem. I do not know them personally, of course, but it makes sense. [The similarities were astonishing.] it would be nice to meet them myself someday, if the chance ever presents itself. I'm sure you have plenty of stories about their exploits.
no subject
[His expression turns sly.]
Have you heard about the most recent one?
Well. Recent from my perspective. The story about the volcano. Most of my account is second-hand after they took leave of Amaurot so I doubt I could do it the justice it deserves, but it is quite the story nonetheless.
no subject
[But judging by that expression, it has to be interesting. All while keeping busy...]
If you don't mind sharing, I would be interested in hearing about it.
