I. Peppered Love

[ It's been a little while since Unnamed encountered the great and mighty Lord of the Goose, but since then he's been making the odd trip to Asura's garden to poke around and say hi while giving Lord Swan A VERY HEALTHY BERTH. On this particular occasion he's been gifted a nice little bundle of devil peppers, which he takes with immense delight.

In his head, it works something like this:

Happy feelings = warmth and devil peppers = HOT AF, which = so much love.

So clearly the best way he can show his affection is by giving the people he cares about some aptly-named Devil Peppers.

If you're someone he's seen before, you can bet ur butt that he's going to call out and wave them down...right before he presents them with one of these bad boys ]

II. Flashcard Signing

[ One thing that Unnamed has been working on since his arrival is how to communicate--because that's hard when you're both deaf and undead. He started first with pictures in the journals, then again with sign language. Experience, however, has armed with the knowledge that not everyone understands Sign, so he's decided that his next step has to be reading and writing all those weird scribbles everyone always fills up their books with.

It has not been easy. His dexterity and fine motor skills are lacking at best like ya do when you're not-quite-alive, but help has come to him in the form of The Best Mom Ever and his introduction to.....flashcards. Shigeru has helped him acquire a set marked with both sight words and signs to help him recognize what each word means, and he has been studying them furiously. He's even gone and dreamotion'd a couple of his own into existence with Shigeru's help, so on this fine day Unnamed can be found:

a) pouring over his flashcards as he spreads them out over ground and table alike;

or

b) rushing up to your character with a flashcard with the word 'HELLO' written on it and holding it out with The Most Enthusiasm Ever. ]

Auh!

[ He looks so proud okay, you don't even know ]

[ ooc; just a small reminder that Unnamed here is both undead and deaf but he is doing his best!! and he's got swanky new flashcards to prove it. So if your character is interested in a mini-sign language lesson, this is a good place for it :D ]

[Aether starts coughing a little, cursing himself that he can't stop this - he doesn't want the boy to worry! But there's no helping it.

He signs a quick "sorry" and then "too hot".

He's really sorry, but his mouth won't survive eating it!]

[ Milk!! Aether needs milk...!

...is what he would suggest, if he knew anything about heat, spiciness, or peppers at all.

"Mouth hot bad??" WHY DID NO ONE TELL HIM THIS? "I help! Help?" ]

[startraveler]

[Aether shakes his head, but then realizes that it does nothing to explain (or help in the current situation).

"Too hot bad" he tries to convey. "Painful" Does the boy even know what being in pain means? Aether frowns. "Don't worry. Milk help."

The problem is how to get some now. He really feels like his tongue was burned out.]

[ He doesn't know the sign 'pain' or understand the concept, but considering the context he's pretty sure it is Not A Good Thing. It's a relief that Aether offers up a solution--if milk will help, he will get all the milk. He just needs to know one thing:

"OK! What milk? I bring!" ]

[startraveler]

[What milk? Aether blinks a few times.

"Normal?" he makes a sigh, unsure what else to say. "Cow milk" he adds, hoping that this will clear this up.

It can't go wrong now... right?]

[ s-surely not.......

"What 'cow'? I bring!"




okay, maybe it can go pretty wrong because he's about to go and try and find a COW here Aether ]

[startraveler]

[Oh noo, please don't bring him a cow!!

Aether started shaking his head and trying to gesture to the other than he can forget about a cow. It only now occurred to him that this boy may not even know what "milk" is.

The traveler attempts to shake his hands in the air as if in "never mind" gesture. He'll be fine! He doesn't need anything!]

[ He...he does not know what milk is, it's true. But he'll be sure to learn after this?? The first thing he's going to do next time he sees Shigeru is ask what milk is, what a cow is, and how he gets both of those things. ]

Ouhhh..

[ Aether are you sure?? Just a second ago he seemed very adamant about the whole milk/cow scenario. Unnamed flounders a bit, confused.

"No cow??" ]

[startraveler]

[Holding a hand over his mouth may not make it convincing, but Aether nods frantically a few more times., before gesturing.

"I'm okay!"

Then he gestures for the boy to follow. Maybe... he can just show him what milk is, but gods, his tongue is dying. Will he be able to ask for milk?]

[ Fingers crossed that he does, sign language among the shop keepers is not nearly as prevalent as Unnamed would hope :c Also not prevalent is his confidence in Aether trying to say he's okay right now...but he doesn't think that trying to argue otherwise would be all that helpful right now.

He decides to follow, reaching out to take one of Aether's hands in his.

[He stops, surprised that his hand was grabbed, before his eyes soften. If only his mouth didn't burn, he would smile kindly at the boy. Sadly, what he can do now is just give his hand a squeeze and lead him towards the nearest store.

His mouth definitely is not burning as badly as before when they enter, but Aether still doesn't have confidence he can talk well now. He looks around, searching for bottles of milk.]

[ And Unnamed...well, the first thing he does as they enter the store is sniff the air. He can smell meat and it's raw and perfect and he wants to go there first--but Aether. Aether needs milk cows, and so he must summon up the willpower to refuse such an alluring scent, instead looking to the blonde for direction.

Which way to cows, Aether!! ]

Ouh...?

[startraveler]

[Look at him, forcing himself to stay good at Aether's side. The traveler gives him a small smile, before he resumes the search. Thankfully it doesn't take that long. Bottles of fresh milk are neatly lines up in the cooler place and Aether grabs one, then shows it to the boy.

"Milk" he sighs.

Then he points at the label that also says "milk", hoping that the boy will now be able to look for it if he ever needs it again.]

[ He did his very best for you, Aether! The siren call of raw meat is a tempting one indeed... But hey--milk! It's...different than he was expecting. It's white. Comes in a bottle. Where's the cow? He knows bottles are bottles, so they're definitely not cows.

"Where cow?" he asks, peering at the bottle as if it will provide him the answers he seeks. ]

[startraveler]

[Ah... that question. It's very valid actually, but Aether is not sure how to explain. First he turns the bottle around, trying to see if it has any picture of a cow on the label.

...It does not.

Another takes another moment to think and suddenly eureka! He summons his journal and projects a mental imagine of a cow onto one of the pages, before showing it to the boy.]

[ Darn labels, always sabotaging attempts to communicate. Good thing Aether is resourceful--and seeing him use the same method Unnamed used to try and talk to people brings a grin to his face.

Better yet, he recognizes the cow!

"I know!" he signs, excited. "That yummy! I eat lots."

Fun fact: domesticate animals? Do terrible in zombie apocalypses. ]

[startraveler]

[Eat...? Aether blinks, before nodding softly. Well, hunting is something that the traveler has done a lot during his travels, so at one hand he can understand.

On the other though, he can't help but feel bad for those poor cows. They didn't know what was coming their way.

"Cows think you're a friend" he tries to say "So they don't run away."]

WAIT, WHAT D8 ]

[startraveler]

[OH NO, HE'S SORRY BUT SOMEONE HAD TO SAY THAT!!

Aether reaches out to the boy, eyes worried.]

[zomboii]

[ THOSE POOR COWS.....???? aether how could you do this to him

he ate friends ]

Uu..... Uuuuuuu.......

[ Unnamed looks down at his hands, remembering the times he'd eaten them--then looks up at Aether again, absolutely mortified by this reality ]

[startraveler]

[He pats his head. What's done is done.

"Don't worry."

Aether is very worried. He traumatized this poor kid.]

[zomboii]

[ Yeah he's not sure how he's not supposed to worry after hearing all that ;w; He just makes that distressed noise again and signs,

"But cows gone...ate cows. Ate friends?"

That's a bad thing?? ]

[startraveler]

[He'll pat his head more. He's very sorry it came to this, but it's best that he knows, even if the truth is cruel.

"You can't change that, but be nice to cows from now on, okay?" he tries to say.]

[zomboii]

[ Unnamed nods vigorously, lips trembling despite being pressed together. He can't cry and his eyes can't get wet, but there's still a firm determination in them as he sniffs.

"Yes!! Never eat cows, always good! I be good forever!"

Never again shall he touch a poor cow ]

[startraveler]

[Poor guy.

Aether nods and gives him some more headpats, before using his free hand to just pull the boy closer for a hug.

He knows he'll be good.]
