{ haunted carnival | test drive #08 - october 2022 }

HAUNTED CARNIVAL

Full details on everything can be found here, but an important reminder that this event log doubles as our Test Drive Meme and information can be found in this section.

This means any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in October and will remain in Songerein from the IC date of October 25 through 31 (this log is forward dated to the 25th). However, outside characters can only thread within this log, so for those seriously considering the game, you are welcome to use non-festival prompts for your toplevels. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count October as their first time in the game without any disruption, so all content will carry over. Those who do not apply will disappear which should not seem too unusual as people randomly disappear already, however players in game can choose to retcon and pretend a character was never there to begin with if it would be easier; or even think their presence was just a dream.

IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.

TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Tuesday, October 25th and Applications will open on November 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until January.

I. CARNIVAL FUN

The moment a guest enters the carnival grounds, there is a high chance (read: optional) they will find themselves changed in some way to fit the spooky, haunted atmosphere. Instead of just wearing a vampire costume, the character will actually turn into one. Of course, how much of a transformation varies between complete to partial changes. It should be noted that this is only a cosmetic and ability change—no matter what someone changes into, they won't have any personality changes…unless one of the carnival attendants cast a small enchantment to make it so. Of course this is by chance as well (read: optional).

A. Haunted Food. While there is some standard fare carnival food around, the Haunted Carnival has some unique items with even more interesting effects:
Caramel Apples: Tart green apples dipped in caramel and decorated with chocolate to look like they’re covered in spiders and spider webs. Eating one of these will have the dreamer feeling crafty and industrious, just like spiders themselves often are. Also, the idea of eating bugs (or even other spiders?!) suddenly seems strangely appealing…
Cherry Blood Popcorn: Popcorn drenched in cherry syrup and decorated with candy bones. The combination of sugar and dreamotion energy leaves the eater feeling giddy and cheerful, somewhat in contrast to the gruesome appearance of the treat itself.
Funnel "Brain" Cakes: Funnel cakes colored to look like brains when served. Comes in regular or zombie brain varieties. Eating one makes you feel lethargic and hungry, like the only thing that matters is your next snack fix, but you’re not willing to do much more than shamble toward it.
Mummies in a Blanket: Small hot dogs wrapped in biscuit dough and decorated to look like mummies. After eating this, you may or may not want to wrap yourself into a blanket and take a nap—ideally somewhere dark and spooky.

B. FUN AND GAMES. Mixed in with the food vendors are several booths advertising a variety of carnival games, including but not limited to the ones below.. The prizes you win may or may not be cursed. Best of luck!
NERF Gun Shooting Gallery: Use dreamotion to shoot foam darts from a gun at various ghostly and ghouly targets lined up on a platform. Advanced players may want to try their hand at making the guns shoot other objects. Water? Fire? Glitter bombs? The only limit is one’s imagination.
Ring Toss: A series of witch hats are lined up, and the objective is to toss rings on the hats for points. Did something just peek up from under one of the hats? It’s probably nothing to worry about.
Potion Bottles: A variation of the milk bottles game wherein you throw balls to knock over flasks and beakers filled with strangely-colored liquid. In most cases, the spilled potion is totally harmless. Once in a while, however, it may have some interesting effects on the player and/or the booth itself.
Slime Pit: There’s a giant pit of slime with a sign next to it: prizes within for those willing to get a bit messy! Said prizes range from giant candy bars to random silly toys to skeletal limbs…? Oh that belongs to the skeleton having fun in the pit, they might want it back.

II. ATTRACTIONS

A. Hall of Mirrors. A classic maze of mirrors that are usually filled with special effects to make one's reflection look distorted. In the beginning the distortions are more humorous, making one look super skinny or extremely curvy. However, the deeper one goes, the reflections begin to look a bit…strange. The mirrors begin to reflect the "worst" side of an individual, but in a more embarrassing manner. When they first wake up in the morning, having a bad hair day, dressed poorly, being lazy on the couch—mostly benign things that would be embarrassing to show others. But there are some that may reveal one's darker self they wish to hide from others and are forced to face—especially when the reflections will step out and follow the original until the end of the maze. They won't do anything, just follow silently like a shadow, but even that may be taxing for anyone, especially if others see. The reflection must either be pushed back into an empty mirror, or it will disappear on its own when exiting the building.

B. Wild Carousel. The creatures on this carousel are not just colorful painted steeds but are more frightening in nature and looking more undead than living. Skeletal horses, direwolves, fanged deer with bloody horns. What makes this ride truly terrifying, however, is that the creatures are alive, restrained only by the pole stuck through them. But there are times when they manage to break free, causing havoc as they run through the park. The only good news is they don't attack, instead aiming for the carnival food as if hungry. Either hang on or help capture them back!

C. Cirque du Souleil. Near the center of the carnival is a large circus tent, and it boasts a variety of shows that are death defying, terrorific, and guaranteed to make everyone scream in fright and awe. The usual acts are available to see: acrobatics, musical performances, theatrical skits, and using ghostly steeds to ride through the large arena. But what makes this circus unique is that all the performers are capable of separating their soul from their physical body, similar to astral projecting or dreamwalking outside of dreams and being visible to all. And now they're asking for volunteer pairs to either participate in a more simple act such as an acrobatic stunt on the swings or tight rope…or eat a special candy that will allow them to have an out of body experience via dreamwalking outside. The only "flaw" is their dreamwalking form will tend to float up to the top of the tent, so their partner who hasn't eaten the candy has to tether them via dreamotion to get through some simple obstacles. No worries, the professionals will help return the soul if they get lost.

D. Spinning Bumper Cups. A combination of the classic bumper cars and spinning cups rides, this attraction has its riders in skull shaped bumper cars that will randomly spin. Riders have the ability to fire off "pumpkin bombs" at the others, which will splatter pumpkin goop to slow down their car. It will also make the car spin for a few rotations. Dreamotion will also help boost the speed, stabilize a spinning car faster, and make the pumpkin bombs more explosive. Just be careful—the barrier around the arena is made of bones and therefore quite brittle. It's not unusual to see a car spin out and lose control driving through the carnival grounds. Stop the runaway car and bring it back! Or shoot people with pumpkin bombs.

E. Ferris Wheel. Ah, the ferris wheel, a gentle ride that elevates one high in the air to allow them to see the sights below, in this case the entire carnival grounds and the surrounding areas like the bordering forests, the Observatory, and the edge of Reverein. However, as with everything in this carnival, the ride is not always so gentle. There are times when the entire ride accelerates to a faster pace, causing the (fortunately) enclosed cabins to rock dangerously as it rotates around. There are times when it keeps going, not letting anyone off until three rotations. And then there are times when the top half of the cabin disappears, exposing the riders to the cooler winds. Fortunately handle bars will appear they can hold onto, but no seat belts. Enjoy the view?

F. Other Rides. There are plenty of rides and attractions at the carnival, too many to list all of them here. A roller coaster, tower drop, gravitron, bungee jumps, pendulum ship—whatever one might think exists, it's there in all its twisted nightmare glory. One thing they all have in common is the more fear and thrill and screams generated, the faster they go. Just hope the ride doesn't stall and get stuck…

III. HAUNTING CLUES

Although the main purpose for these prompts is to find the clues, anyone is free to use them for general use and not focus on getting the clue. For those who do participate, we'll be asking for thread during our Activity Check! Those who are TDMing regardless of application can also have their threads counted by commenting to this thread and following the directions.

#1. Haunted Dollhouse. There is a special building called the Haunted Dollhouse. It's similar to a haunted house, however this attraction is filled with moving porcelain dolls that will try to scare and chase those who enter (it's quite likely some members of the newly added Porcelain Town have volunteered to help). Sometimes, those who enter are cursed into a doll and are now vulnerable. They are also not always able to move on their own will. This is not great as sometimes the dolls kind of…malfunction and will actually become aggressive. The weapons they wield are also not props, so that's a problem. However, they are small and can only inflict minor wounds and can be easily taken out.

The main clue here is "Villains!' I shrieked. 'Dissemble no more! I admit the deed! Tear up the planks! Here, here! It is the beating of his hideous heart!" To help both those who have turned into dolls as well as get the clue, everyone has to find the right place where some candied hearts are hidden. Fortunately the "blood trail" (it's raspberry syrup) will help lead them to the right place.

#2. Abandoned House. A little away from the main attractions there is a run down house surrounded by trees…and a lot of ravens. A raven with red eyes will guide those who dare or wish to face a lost loved one to the house. Inside it's just filled with faceless busts and empty paintings, but soon they are filled with the images of those lost ones. It could be a person, pet, thing, but they are there, just staring. Only the eyes and mouths move, and what the person hears are their insecurities and fears related to how they lost whatever they see. Anyone else will either see the original blanks or their own personalized images.

The main clue is "And the Raven, never flitting, still is sitting, still is sitting // On the pallid bust of Pallas just above my chamber door // Back into the chamber turning, all my soul within me burning // Shall be lifted – nevermore". To get out of this house, they have to first look for the bust that has the red eyed raven on it. This will be tricky as there will be many ravens with different colored eyes. Once they do, there will be a small picture frame. They must manifest one or more of the images they are seeing and capture it into the frame. This is simply done by waving it like a net, but the manifestation can move around. This can be as easy or difficult as a player wants, and how affected the character is from what they see and hear can also be a factor. The more affected they are, the easier it is to manifest but difficult to capture. The less affected, it will be more difficult to manifest as they have to tap into that raw fear, but will be easier to capture.

#3. Hay Bale Maze. Just outside of the circus tent is a large hay bale maze with the hay…looking as if it's seen much better days. It's filled with spooks that like to jump scare maze goers or bodiless limbs that reach out to grab, but aside from that it's harmless. Except for one particular figure.

The main clue is "Who dares?" he demanded hoarsely of the courtiers who stood near him --"who dares insult us with this blasphemous mockery? Seize him and unmask him --that we may know whom we have to hang at sunrise, from the battlements!" There is a red clad figure wearing a skull mask. He will randomly bust through the hay walls and engage maze goers into a fight. Those who are incapable will flee in terror while the figure will chase, which will be a pretty good clue as to where he is. Once engaged, any weapon and dreamotion can be used at their disposal and the challenge is to just simply best him in a fight (not to the death). Striking the figure even once will earn a victory and the skull mask will be granted.

#4. Musical Catacombs. For a bit more lighthearted fun, there is an underground catacombs that is filled with tombs. Some of them have actual skeletons and ghosts sleeping in them, but they won't harm anyone if bothered. Just be a bit cranky, maybe throw a bone. At someone's head. Down here it's quite lively, filled with music, dancing, and a lot of alcohol. Minors will only get sparkling juice.

The main clue is "'Ha! ha! ha! — he! he! he! — a very good joke, indeed — an excellent jest. We will have many a rich laugh about it at the palazzo — he! he! he! — over our wine — he! he! he!' // 'The Amontillado!' I said." One of the games is a dancing game where the tombs will light up a certain color and participants have to properly hit the correct corresponding floor panel (basically a music rhythm/DDR themed game). Should they make a perfect score, one of the tombs will open and have a crusty wine bottle in it. It has competitor and co-op mode.

And yet here we are.

[ He's just saying. ]

...Do you think we might fall?

[ He...doubts that will actually happen, but the thought has certainly crossed his mind. ]

[The disorienting effect of the mirrors was one of those things that seemed incredibly childish and ridiculous at first. Somehow, as rattled as she was by her reflection, now she's struggling to keep her focus and figure out which way to turn, especially as she keeps getting distracted by glimpses of the reflection out of the corner of her eye even as she moves-

But, fortunately, she's fairly certain the... two-toned catboy... isn't a reflection, even before he suddenly holds his hand out in a warning. At least there's something in here to ground her. Her reply is curt, but not actively aggressive, at least.]

Perhaps if you didn't block the doorways.

Arrival

[personal profile] fullgauntlet 2022-10-16 04:39 pm (UTC)(link)
[Meanwhile- Izuku thinks that in general, this has to be just one strange dream that seems more vivid than usual. He hasn't wrapped it around his head yet that this place is a real breathing world that takes place in some sort of weird collective dream-consciousness of all the people here. It's just too bizarre. Even for someone who comes from a world where quirks of all sorts can be just as bizarre. He just has too many questions buzzing in his head.

Like how he's supposed to deal with the fact that the two very fluffy green-furred wolf ears on the top of his head wiggle and hear everything around him ten times louder than usual. He appears to be a werewolf...?]

Ah!

[All the loud noises and crowds make Izuku stumble for a second which makes him snag his arm on an old piece of wood from a wooden cart. He winces at the minor little scratch. But a second later someone's grabbing his arm...]

Sorry? No, I'm... fine. It's just so loud that I got distracted I wasn't paying attention to where I was going... Erm.

[Wait- this boy... Is he a vampire? A werewolf's mortal enemy?!]

⋚ i. costume troubles

[Instead of having a cool costume like an oni samurai, Rokurou will be blessed in wearing...an orange normin costume. At least he still has his swords—all four of them. He'll make quite the sight with two long swords on his back and two short swords. It's more like a mascot costume where he can take off the head...which he'll have a bit of fun with.]

Wooooh, beware the headless normin!

[Said fun is holding the head piece will ducking his head under to pretend it has no head at all.

However, this costume will have the wonderful bonus of sometimes transforming into a smaller foot and a half tall normin (source). And when that happens—]

Whoa, hey, watch it!

[Rokurou has to be careful to not get stepped on!]

⋚ iic. cirque du souleil: flaming swords
[When Rokurou is randomly selected to go up to the circus stage, he's not sure what he could do...but with the normin costume, he decides to have a little fun with it. In a goofy voice, he'll do some silly stunts and tricks with the other performers, including juggling all four of his swords—with the blades on fire! And in a bulky normin costume like that, that's definitely quite the feat. But then he has an idea and looks at the audience.]

Okay, I'm going to need a partner for this. [He twirls one of his swords in his hands.] Who'd like to challenge the Great Normin Swordsman to a duel?

[Let's just hope he doesn't shrink down...but then again, maybe that would be more entertaining.]

⋚ iid. spinning bumper cars
[Rokurou has never seen something like a bumper car (or any kind of car) before, so he was quite curious as to how it worked. And once inside? Oh man he is having a blast.

1. In the Arena. It might not be using swords (what a shame, could have been a great improvement to have spinning blades), but there is a lot of satisfaction in firing off that cannon and blasting another car.]

Hah, think I'm getting pretty good at this—whoa!

[Of course he'll get hit and spin around, but he'll just laugh in good fun. And if he has a partner—]

Get 'em, over there!

[He will definitely encourage them to either drive or fire the cannon at a potential target, depending on which side he's on (and he's not too picky).

2. Runaway Car. But sometimes he might get a little too into it, his competitive spirit fueling the car to faster than intended speeds. It might also bring some heat as fire licks the wheels as the car charges through the arena—and out the fence with a loud SMASH!]

Uh... Uh oh—hang on!

[Rokurou has never driven before and it's way different from going in a circle in an enclosed space to out on the "streets" of the carnival. And the brakes aren't working!?]

Runaway car coming through!!

⋚ iii-3. against the masked man
[If there's an opportunity to fight, Rokurou will take it, and after making his way through the maze, he has both his short swords out with his pair of longswords ready strapped on his back.]

Heh, I know it's not to kill but... Can't really make any promises. So if anyone else wants a shot at him, better move fast!

[Because he's ready to solo the guy. So with a grin he charges in, fire flickering over his blades as he engages the masked man. Of course, the opponent isn't easy and has a fair number of tricks up his sleeves, such as teleporting or using shadows to move around quickly.

However, someone might want to warn Rokurou that he may want to try and temper his burning fighting spirit—because fire and hay is not a great mix.]

velvet crowe | tales of berseria | TDM

[personal profile] daemonise 2022-10-16 04:41 pm (UTC)(link)

[Velvet will be dressed up as Tinkerbell, in the whole ensemble from the pretty dress to the fairy wings, and from time to time, she'll unfortunately be small, so please... help a little pixie out. Be warned, anyone who comes even a foot within her proximity will find that glitter on themselves.]

🩸 i. arrival: a pixie's plight

[It feels almost like it all happens in the blink of an eye. First, she's listening to the annoying floating elephants try to give an answer to her very angry question of why she's here and what it means, and the next, she's standing at the entrance of a... carnival? Or on the inside of it, rather, because there's absolutely no way she would have made her way through the gates all on her own.

Especially not when she's suddenly garnished in a whole new outfit and, once again, something she would not be doing of her own volition. If she had any say in this, which apparently, she doesn't, then she wouldn't be here at all...! The moment she steps through, there's a shift. Her hair is up, wrapped in a tight bun, she feels something fluttering behind her back, and a dress that is much too tight wrapped around her, as well as little heeled slippers with fluffy pompoms that rustle in the breeze. The only thing she's managed to keep is the bandage wrapped around her left arm.

"Oh, how cute! A pixie!" One of the guides who ushered her through the gate cries out in glee while another steps up to admire her costume. "It suits you! Fits so nicely!"]

Get back.

[She growls it under her breath in warning, but the way there's a twinkling noise accompanying her syllables doesn't make her sound threatening at all. But they only giggle at her reaction, which in turn, only makes her growl louder.]

I said get back! Let me out.

[And she's lunging forward at the gate, only to be stopped by several of the people standing guard around it.

Someone should probably step in before a fight breaks out between ghosts, skeletons, and one very sparkly, very angry pixie...!]

🩸 ii. haunted food

[It's a real shame that the stall owners are just handing out their food without any payment because Velvet has somehow ended up with a large assortment of different treats that are completely lost on her. They were insistent, and no matter how many times she tried to tell them she didn't want them or warn them that they would go to waste, she still has several caramel apples, a bag of popcorn tucked under one arm, and a bag of those hot dogs in another.

Not to mention... she's been switching back between being regular sized and pixie sized, much to her chagrin, and she doesn't want to find out if the food will follow along with her.

So, she's eager to hand them off to others who look like they'll enjoy it, and hastily too. She doesn't make a very convincing saleswoman, however, because the first person she sees will simply have any one of the items shoved in their faces, and a gruff voice being only slightly drowned out in what sound like windchimes.]

Here. Take it. No point in wasting it.

🩸 iii. haunted dollhouse

[Is this what she gets for (reluctantly) agreeing to help? Not that Velvet is scared of anything haunted, nor are some porcelain dolls going to make her run screaming, but this is proving very, very quickly to just be a nuisance. In more ways than one.

a. Fighting dolls: She doesn't really know what she's looking for besides a heart, but she senses nothing nearby, and she doubts very much that it's even real. What she does sense is the presence of something not quite human coming her way, and while she doesn't have her blades to swing, she does have her arm. Should anyone need assistance, Velvet will swoop in, her giant black and red claw swinging around to grab hold of the aggressive doll before it can attack.

If you happen to be the one cursed, it's probably best that you say something as she stares you down with darkened amber eyes.]

Don't even think about it.

b. Help the Velvet doll: Well, fighting the dolls wasn't so bad, but she didn't think that she would become one herself. She didn't think herself immune to it, but it's definitely an unexpected and very inconvenient turn of events. Every limb of hers is stiff, and even the wings don't help her to move much, but she's far too stubborn to ask anyone for help. So, if anyone happens to pass through one of the many rooms where she was turned, they will find a Tinkerbell doll laying on her back on the floor. Glaring.

c. Fight the Velvet doll: Once the curse manages to grip her, Velvet can finally move, only for her to horrifically realize that she can't control her movements at all. This doll body does everything on its own, and she flits around still very stiffly (look, the wings don't move much) and with her claw out, she chases anyone who she happens to catch sight of and tries to scratch them, or...]

Ugh!

[... throws glitter at them. But of course, now it's all over her, too.]

🩸 iv. wildcard

[None of these work for you? Leave something else below! Anyone is free to try dragging her to the attractions/rides, save for the hall of mirrors. She's also available to be dragged around to find the other clues as well if anyone wishes to have her help with that. If you'd like to plot something out, feel free to PM me or hit me up at [plurk.com profile] crystariums.]

[Azula wasn't so much 'oblivious to the presence of another person' as 'perfectly willing to shove past another person if she got in her way-' but the other woman reacts first, stopping short of Azula's path, and her question- well, it prompts a reaction. She pauses and faces Isabela, keeping a mask of neutral skepticism on her face.]

I wasn't running.

[Okay, it was... briskly walking away from those mirrors, very quickly, so the distinction is probably academic, and even in her head that sounded extremely defensive. Ugh. This whole place has her thrown off her game.

Unfortunately, her composure is further undermined by her anxious glance at the mirrors behind her- was the reflection still following her? She couldn't even tell right now.]

Haunted Food

[personal profile] fullgauntlet 2022-10-16 04:54 pm (UTC)(link)
[The spread of food is really something else. Izuku has been to autumn festivals before and a few Halloween things here and there in the past but he's never seen anything this lavish before. Then again he's never really been invited to big parties or anything like that before either.

In his hands is a serving of those mummies in a blanket because the smell of hot dogs enticed him more than the other items. Probably because Izuku appears to be a werewolf right now. With fluffy green-furred wolf ears and a big fluffy wagging tail as he sniffs his new treat.]

Eh? [He turns to the other boy who... isn't eating tuna mayo???] Did you say tuna mayo? I don't know if they have that here. Ah- maybe??

"Ah, Miss Isabela! It's been quite some time, hasn't it?"

They'd met in a nightmare with Alastor stuck in stag form, but surely she remembered that cheery voice and pointy smile. That and the big fluffy ears and little antlers should help jog her memory.

[Izuku wishes it was a little easier for him not to notice the sudden change to his entire body. But everything is ten times louder thanks to the wolf ears he has on the top of his head now. Fluffy and green just like his hair as they twitch and he winces from all the loud festivities noises around him. Being a werewolf of some sort is a shock to his system right now.

He almost bumps into the accidental cat boy- and when he does Izuku's ears perk right up and the fur on his wolf tail sticks up.

-- And he barks.]

Hey!

[... Wait- Why is he barking?? He can't help the noise growling out of his throat. Is it because the guy is a cat?! Izuku is not a dog?!?!]

Hey, you!!

[Izuku, stop??? This is embarrassing?!]

i. arrival

[Well, she wasn't expecting this. This was a new world, and an unfamiliar one at that, but she wasn't one to complain. There wasn't anything suspicious about it, per say, and the fact that there was a carnival for her to go to... It's a bit odd that the first thing she does is to attend the Halloween festival, and she's rather impressed with the decor.

She's feeling a bit underdressed for this, but once she takes a step through the gates, she finds herself dressed as a female vampire. With all the works. Which meant her body was getting crushed by the corset that now wrapped around her lower frame. Not only that, but she know had the teeth and all, which was an even more impressive transformation.

Either way, you can find her standing in front of a mirror, and admiring herself. She had to admit one thing: that she looked good as a vampire. Definitely ready to attend the festival goings in this attire, despite the corset being a bit too tight around her.]

ii. fun and games

[You know, she's never one to turn down any food. Mummies in a Blanket has caught her eye and that's the first thing that she takes from the stall. Fast to eat her first batch, before going to her second batch. Marie practically stuffing her face in, before she starts to notice that she's wanting to be the mummy in the blanket. Of course, she wouldn't just huddle up somewhere and take a nap, and instead, she finds herself wandering around just a bit longer to see the sights.

It's then that she notices the shooting range. Familiar with guns, she does find herself drawn to the area to try it out. Never too old to play a game, or two, she lifts up the gun, and shoots. Scarily accurate with her shots, having been trained in the military and all.

So it's not long until she's standing with a stack of prizes at both sides of her. The woman herself unsure of what she'll do with these prizes, or if she should honestly just give them away... She doesn't need so many prizes at once.]

iii. wild carousel

[You're never too old to get onto rides, right? Well, this one looked particularly interesting, and she's already lined up in the short line outside of the ride. It's then, when she gets up into the front, that she notices that this carousel isn't normal at all, and the animals are actually alive. Alive, and wanting to get out, no doubt.

Before she can say a word, there's a pack of wolves that manage to break free. Marie just barely dodging as they run out of the gates, and toward the stalls of food. A bit... Surprised that she didn't have to use her scythe just now to kill a few of them, but she does get stopped by one of the staff. Marie soon tasked with retrieving the pack of wolves, who were now terrorizing the stall where she got her mummies in a blanket from.

With a deep sigh, she walks over to one of the wolves -- some of them dispersing upon seeing her. However, there is one that meets her wrath -- Marie grabbing it by the collar, and using her very apparent, Mom voice.]

C'mere you little shit! Get your ass back here, right now.

(Okay, so it was more like a much faster walking than running on Azula’s part? Isabela is probably going to take it as a probable yes, and though she too is just as creeped out by the presence of the reflections following after her too, she does her best not to freak out over enchanted reflections.

Her time with the magic mirrors during the dragon chaos the month before has taught her that mirrors can get enchanted for various purposes and she is beginning to suspect that the Master must have done something similar to these very mirrors she and Azula are dealing with.)

Ah okay, I see. The carnival sure does a great job enchanting these mirrors for today. It’s not everyday mirrors can make reflections to react to our every move.

(She then gestures at each mirrors with her now wooden claw like hand.)

By the way: Is this your first time being in this town?

“Oh hi there Alastor, it has been a while since we has met.”

Isabela is pretty happy to see Alastor right now even if they are struggling with the floor panels and the lights going off and on at this time. She can’t miss the voice, smile and the ears and antlers anywhere.

[ Shirou wants to point out how it sounds silly when Megumi says it like that but he thinks it's hardly the time or place to be making witty commentary so he refrains. ]

I know about some magic even if I'm just a beginner I'm still a magus. I don't think I have to hide it from you because you know about magic too. You called it a Shikigami.

[It sounds like a useful ally to have. Megumi seems like a more competent fighter than Shirou will ever be. He can't do anything like summon familiars. That's something skilled magi can do. ]

Can you fight?

There's no need for thanks. It's my duty to help those in need. You've been wandering in here for far too long.

What do you mean you can't guarantee it? Such insolence! Spiders are the enemy and they must be dealt with accordingly!! I'll launch a frontal attack with my sword and you can take the flank.

Because it's fun? People really like to play around and enjoy themselves when it's the festive season.

I'm finding all of this very new but it's exciting and I can't say I hate it. How about you?

Guess I went and did it again. Can you blame me? It's hard to walk around like this.

[That's not an incorrect assumption.

She takes a moment to think it over.]

...No. I don't think I hate it either, and it seems like plenty of people are having a good time.

But I can't say I understand it either.

You said this is new for you as well. These sorts of festivities are uncommon where you come from, then?

1. First things first

[ This isn't the first time Noel has found herself within this dreamworld; at least, that's the nagging feeling at the back of her head, but the memories of her previous stay are largely scrambled and unclear. One thing she's almost certain of, however, is that she's left this place under... less than perfect circumstances. As such, the first thing she does after the brief moment of typical Arrival Panic and getting herself together is grab her journal and write a simple but honest greeting. ]

Good morning, everyone. Oh, but since we're all dreaming, wouldn't "good evening" be more appropriate? I suppose it doesn't really matter, so please never mind that.

My name is Noel Vermillion. My memory is a little fuzzy on the details, but... the last time I was here, I... caused people a lot of trouble. I think. I want to apologize for that. If there's anything I can do to make amends, please let me know!

2. It's all fun and games...

[ So! With amends (hopefully) made, it's time to join the festivities. Once Noel enters the carnival grounds, she finds herself wearing an unexpected kind of costume ─ namely, she's dressed as a nun. Apparently, it's not just monsters that fit the haunted atmosphere.

But given that this is a carnival, it's obviously not meant to be all doom and gloom, and soon enough Noel decides to relax and have some fun playing one of the games. Naturally, being a kind, young girl playing the role of nun tonight, she goes straight for the shooting gallery ─ and given her expertise with guns, it shouldn't be a surprise that she nails every shot with little effort.

That's when she starts to mess around with the dreamotion in order to make things a little more spectacular (like it wasn't already). In order to achieve that, she makes it so each hit results in a big explosion of candy, much to the enjoyment of people passing by. Unfortunately, she overdoes it at one point, causing a giant flood of sweets bursting out into the street... and potentially sweeping any unsuspecting victims in the vicinity. Noel immediately rushes over to help, apologizing profusely as she does. ]

O-Oh, I'm so sorry! Are you alright?!

3. Mirror, mirror on the wall

[ Following the sounds of laughter and cheery cries, Noel enters the hall of mirror with the expectation of some harmless fun. At first, that is exactly what she finds ─ rows of mirrors that show her distorted images make her giggle, even the ones that are slightly embarrassing, like the ones that show her tripping and falling over or accidentally setting an oven on fire.

The smile fades from her face as soon as the pictures shown in the mirrors swiftly change to something completely different. Her expression remains solemn as she passes by the reflections of several different girls, all of whom share an uncanny resemblance to Noel herself. Finally, she comes across an image that causes her to stop, hesitant to move along. Suddenly, the reflection steps out of the mirror, catching Noel by surprise. The girl stumbles backwards, fear visible in her eyes. ]

A-Ah... you're...

[ She trails off and closes her eyes for a brief moment, remembering there's no need for her to be afraid anymore. She collects herself, taking in a deep breath and looking "herself" in the eye. ]

Mmm... I suppose you're me, after all.

[ The purple-haired girl says nothing, regarding her other self with cold indifference as she crosses her arms on her chest. If nothing else, Noel decides that the lack of instant physical assault is some kind of... sign of goodwill, perhaps? Either way, it looks like this meeting won't result in a fight for once. ]

Just... please, make sure you don't hurt anyone anymore, okay...?

[ There's no confirmation from Izanami either way, so Noel can only let out a sigh, resigning herself to being followed by the embodiment of her... less virtuous side for the time being. ]

4. Abandon hope all ye who enter here

[ Eventually, Noel strays away from the carnival attractions, seeking for some peace and quiet to collect her thoughts. Lost in her own musings, it's not until she's standing right in front of the run-down house that she realizes she ended up in a rather strange place. Hesitantly, she decides to follow one of the ravens inside. To her surprise, she finds herself in a room filled with paintings of people close to her: Tsubaki, Makoto, her adoptive parents, all her friends... At first, she couldn't be happier to see the images of her loved ones, but that quickly changes once they open their mouths and she's forced to listen to all the hurtful accusations that have been stuck at the back of her mind for what feels like an eternity.

"It's all your fault."
"If only you didn't exist..."
"Everything would've been fine if it hadn't been for you."
"You should just die!"

Noel feels her knees give in and slowly slides to the ground, covering her ears in hopes of drowning out the voices, but it changes nothing. That's right, how could she forget? What right does she have to casually enjoy herself here like she hadn't just caused the destruction of her own world and the deaths of everyone she knew and loved? No, that's not something she can run away from into dreams; not anymore. ]

I'm sorry... I'm so sorry...!

[She opts not to focus on the memories the mirror dredged up, the rage, the despair, the humiliation-

She's focusing, instead, on that oddly plant-like hand. That looks like more than a mere costume. She's noticed a lot of that here in this carnival, but it's fascinating to see it. It's quite realistic. And less personal.]

Mm. The enchantments are...

[Viscerally upsetting.]

Charming.

[And they say she can't be polite. Speaking of which-]

I'm afraid I am new here, yes. Is it always this... whimsical?

A: Performance [ She's encountered troupes of traveling performers on her journey, but never has she seen them perform herself. After all, her pilgrimage has only ever allowed her to focus on her duties or reach out to help others in need, attending to the sick and injured, or kindling the Flame across the continent. Attending a performance for leisure would be too much time idle, even if she would encourage others to go attend.

So when she sees a man swallow a sword and/or use fire as he juggles, she gasps, standing up from her. She may even reach out with a gloved hand to grasp your own out of fright, exclaiming, ]
How...! Is he alright?!

B: Soul Projection [ She's definitely swallowed a candy and she's definitely stuck up on the tent, having lost her partner a while ago. Maybe you're with her, or maybe you're down on the ground, or maybe you're the partner that volunteered with her, left, and came back. Either way, she waves in your direction, bidding you for help: ]

Pardon me... but you wouldn't know how to return to one's own body? [ Her body in question is currently slumped in the stands. ]

Hay Bale Maze
[ What does a combination of jumpscares, sharp turns, and a red-clad phantom mean for one who has never been in one of these labyrinths before?

[ When Ken looks down, all he will see is an innocent looking bunny doll, perhaps a little too girlish for his tastes. Maybe she's been there from the very beginning, or perhaps it felt like she just appeared there. Either way, the question has her squirming.

Her eyes move around, like one would when paralysed, like it's the only thing that can move. The blue flowers pinned to her ears start to glow faintly, attracting the attention of some of the other dolls.

Finally, she's able to stand. ]
