⨂ Eustace's Bach--er, Camping Party ⨂
Who: Eustace & all his male CR
Which: Semi-closed log, forward-dated to the weekend before the wedding (November 26-27)
Where: Out in a cosy clearing of the Wildlands
What: Eustace can't make up his goddamn mind, so he invites all the men he knows to his bachelor party. He intends for it to be a relaxed hangout, but...well. We'll see.
Warnings: Alcohol, underage drinking, ghosts, more to be added if they come up
» invitation
At some point in early November, all those named by Eustace (aka, every man Eustace has had CR with) will receive a short message from Trahearne over the journals:
For those who are reluctant, or want to go but can't find a good excuse, some of Eustace's dogs will appear at those characters' houses without warning to dognap them. The flower dogs can make use of vines for those who really want their characters to suffer for this party.
While any of the dogs may come to grab people, only the male dogs will stay for the party, of course. There will be 5 dogs in attendance total--4 corgis and 1 flower dog.
» campgrounds
» cabin
» nighttime
Treat this as a mingle log! The setting description above is just the stage--feel free to come up with games, have your characters bring things to add to the mix, play around with the things mentioned above. It can be as chill...or not as chill as you want.

At some point in early November, all those named by Eustace (aka, every man Eustace has had CR with) will receive a short message from Trahearne over the journals:
Hello. If you aren't aware yet, Eustace will be getting married this winter. He has invited you and several others to join him in a pre-celebration of the occasion called a "bachelor party." This will be held on Saturday, 11/26 at a location in the Wildlands (see attached map). Please bring food and drink and anything else you will need for camping.
No need to reply. If you are unable to attend for any reason, feel free to ignore this message. If you will be coming, we will see you there.

In the weeks beforehand, Trahearne and Beat went and scouted out a suitable little place for the shindig: A clearing in the woods flanked by a small cabin. The cabin sits nestled among the trees at the edge of the clearing. The clearing itself is sizeable--there's a place for chopping firewood, a ring of stones in the middle suggesting its use as a bonfire spot, and a grill built into the ground nearer the cabin.
The ground here is soft, but not muddy--perfectly suitable to sleep on. Beat and Trahearne made sure to clear away excess leaves from the ground to make things more comfortable.
The woods around the clearing are not thick, but they are still wilderness. There is abundant, if mundane flora to be found, and smaller critters that happily scamper around in the daylight. Who knows what lurks beyond in the nighttime... Better keep those fires going to keep the bad things away.
» cabin
The small cabin at the edge of the clearing is just that--small. It is comprised of only two rooms. The front room is a sitting room with a small kitchen, kept warm by a wood stove. Visitors to the cabin are free to make themselves comfortable in front of the fire on the couch big enough for three, or the large sitting chair by the window. The dining table only seats two, and it sits snug against the back of the couch.
The back room is home to the bedroom. Here, the visitors will find two bunk beds--enough sleeping room for four (or more if you wanna share i'm not judging). All the beds are made and equipped with soft, clean blankets and pillows. It seems whoever was here first was anticipating the party.
There is also another door in the bedroom, which leads to a closet. The particularly nosy will find all sorts of things useful for a cabin stay inside: extra pillows, blankets, tools for maintenance, an extra grill... You name it! Within reason!
On the outside, there is a stockpile of wood for the wood stove, and an outhouse. Just the one.
» nighttime
This is an overnight party, by the way. And when night falls, that's when the real fun begins.
As mentioned before, there is more than enough space in the clearing to create a big bonfire. But be careful--it's dry and windy. Take care not to unwittingly set any of the trees on fire. The ground is comfortable enough to sleep on (especially for those seasoned travelers), but for those who don't want to rough it completely, there are tents and sleeping bags.
The cabin is for those who don't like or can't sleep outside. It is comfortable and warm, yes, especially with all those others in the same room... But there's a catch. It's haunted. The ghost that inhabits the cabin isn't malicious, thankfully. It's friendly, in fact. Perhaps a little too friendly. Those sleeping in the cabin may find themselves poked and prodded into awakening at odd hours. Besides that, it's harmless. Promise.
Treat this as a mingle log! The setting description above is just the stage--feel free to come up with games, have your characters bring things to add to the mix, play around with the things mentioned above. It can be as chill...or not as chill as you want.
invitation & arrival two prompts i am GREEDY
There will be fires and a grill for you to use, so there are facilities available for cooking depending on what you plan on bringing. Come any time in the afternoon and stay as long as you like.
So he honestly was not expecting for Alastor to rock up with a meal to feed the entire party several times over. His eyes widened in shock when the sight greeted him.
"Alastor?" There was disbelief in his voice as he strides over to offer a hand to carry something. "Did you make all of this?"
You and me both!
The shadow creatures carrying the basket of bottles eagerly headed towards Trahearne. They didn't like having to be careful with all the glassware inside.
Alastor's smile was positively beaming. "Finished the beignets before packing them up. they're best hot from the fryer, after all! The biscuits and cornbread could stand a little warming up but otherwise should be fine. This..." He nodded to the covered cast iron pot (arguably a small cauldron) in his hands. "...has been simmering since last night, so it should be about ready to eat though I'd keep it over heat. Letting it simmer longer just enhances the flavor of a good old-fashioned gumbo!"
...Yeah, someone was a liiiiittle overexcited.
now i want beignets.
For a moment, after listening to Alastor speak, Trahearne was speechless. His gaze roamed over all the food, darting from basket to basket, before he finally spoke up. "I am...incredibly impressed. You are quite the chef."
He turned and nodded towards the campground, where they would be setting up, but his eyes didn't leave the cauldron in Alastor's hands. "That smells delicious. Is that the food you mentioned last time?"
He could smell the telltale sting of spice!
NGL, doing Alastor tags sometimes makes me really hungry
"Why, thank you! These are my mother's recipes. If you're going to steal, steal from the best, am I right?!"
His static buzzed merrily as he swept his eyes over the area, looking for a good place to set up the pot.
"That it is! A good gumbo needs hours to cook. You can't just whip it up on a whim, but this seemed the perfect occasion to make a big pot of it! And what's a gumbo without cornbread or biscuits? I wasn't sure which one would be preferred, so I thought, 'Well, why not both?!'"
I CAN SEE WHY
"Oh, Alastor," he said, an apologetic look crossing his face. He turned away and began to walk at a pace comfortable for the both of them, carrying their things. "You didn't have to go through so much preparation."
He felt a little bad knowing someone had put all that effort into making food when...he didn't do much except ask Eustace for an invite list.
"I earnestly hope it didn't take up too much of your time."
I am so sorry. I don't know what happened to this tag. DDD:
"Ah. I...may have gotten a bit overexcited, I suppose. Though not too much time! When one hardly sleeps, one has plenty of time to do things!"
His toothy grin was large and awkward now. He seemed to have made a serious faux pas despite his best efforts.
IT IS OKAY
"So long as it wasn't too much for you. This is meant to be a relaxed get-together." He wouldn't call it a faux pas--he would call it guilt that Trahearne himself didn't even think about putting together any food. Or even bring a drink.
Ah, well.
As they neared the spot, his expression eased and his attention honed on another offhand comment.
"Then again, one has many more hours in the day if you don't need to sleep," he said, leading into his question. "Do you not? I suppose I don't know much about your kind."
no subject
He really did want to be a good guest given he was actually invited this time...
"Some demons sleep more than others. I prefer to forgo sleep as long as I can. Dip into my magic reserves to keep everything buzzing! Besides, I never got much sleep when I was alive anyway."
no subject
There was a little joking tone in Trahearne's voice when he said that. One, because die. Get it. And two, because he could relate--more often than not he found himself carrying out the same things he always did in life.
It was also kind of neat to get these tidbits into what made Alastor tick. The people here were so unique (says the tree).
As they reached the spot for the food, Trahearne came to a stop and set down his load. "But you know, I'm inclined to agree. It's best to ensure everyone's fed instead of scrambling for food later." He smiled. "So long as you're sure it wasn't too much trouble, you have my thanks, Alastor."
no subject
Alastor's grin widened again as he lost all trace of embarrassment. He hummed along with a bit of jazz as he set the gumbo on a heat source to continue simmering away.
"A special occasion like this deserves a proper gumbo!" He beamed back at Trahearne. "The longer it's allowed to simmer, the longer the flavors can build up. You're all in for a real treat!"
no subject
"I've not yet had a taste and I can tell already that it's going to be delicious," he said, glancing at the cauldron. Though he wasn't much of a gourmet, he knew when food smelled good. "I would say this is a special occasion. He will never admit it himself, but Eustace deserves to be celebrated like this. I'm sure he'll be delighted."
This "lone wolf" sure had a lot of friends.
no subject
True, he hadn't made the gumbo as spicy as he preferred but it still packed quite a bit of heat.
"I don't believe that there's been a wedding since we first started arriving in this shared dream world, so it's doubly-so!"
no subject
He smiled.
"I don't think there has been, no. I couldn't find word of any previous weddings or marriages when I was doing my research, so I created a registry for married couples just for the occasion."
Trahearne seemed proud of this fact. He was a nerd.
no subject
"Well then, this is a fine way to establish such a tradition in this lovely little dream world, don't you think?"
no subject
Trahearne nodded.
"This occasion is turning out to be a splendid one--I think there's no better way to mark the first of its kind."
no subject
no subject
Because it was taking place here, in Songerein, and they were celebrating Eustace and Tifa. What else could he ask for?
no subject
And, honestly, when the Radio Demon showed up, the party tended to stop.
no subject
"Then consider this the first in a long while. Or turning over a new leaf, perhaps. I can't imagine Eustace and Tifa are the only couple who are thinking about marriage."
The people who have lived in this dream realm longest had been here for more than a year already. And considering the trials Songerein threw at them, he wouldn't put it past others who wished to solidify their bond in spite of it all.
no subject
no subject
Never mind that.
Trahearne only hummed and looked at Alastor in curiosity.
"I can't say I can relate. Marriage is a distinctly human tradition where I'm from--my people don't go to the same lengths as humans do to celebrate a union of two people."
Then again, the sylvari lacked one very important key element that seemed to play a part in marriage: History.
no subject
Isn't your planet named after your biggest continent?"Really?" Alastor tilted his head to one side. "Interesting! Most marriage ceremonies on my Earth started off as religious ceremonies. Are your people more secular?"
no subject
SHHH."Religious ceremonies? Fascinating." Trahearne's eyes drifted upward in thought for a moment. What would it be like if the humans did the same, under the guidance of the Six? It could have very well started out as a religious ceremony, considering...gestures vaguely to humans and the gods. "As far as I'm aware, weddings are often political at their core. For the ones that do not marry for love, that is.
"My people, on the contrary, do not worship gods or spirits, per se. We revere our mother for her wisdom, but she is our mother."
As anyone would.
no subject
His ears twitched at that.
"Ah, that certainly makes plenty of sense! One's mother is, after all, their gateway into the world!" He grinned and motioned a hand, mutely encouraging Trahearne to tell him more.
