Who: Wanderer and Heizou

[It's hot. There's more to the day, yes, but it's hot. That's all Wanderer really cares about, especially since it's so hot his flying kitten is still asleep in his house and not perched on his hat.

Wanderer really, really hates the heat. He hates the cold too, but for some reason the heat is making him cranky. Why couldn't his creator have thought to put in a cooling system of some sort? No, he doesn't want to sweat, but it would be nice to be able to be cool in this gross heat!

He's sitting under a tree by the lake, trying to cool off and debating if he really wants to stick his feet in the lake. It's tempting.]

I've never read a mystery novel before. [...eh fuck it.] I'll take a recommendation.

[Heizou's whole face immediately lights up. It's such a genuine, innocent delight that it might actually catch Wanderer a little off guard.]

Oh?? In that case, I'll be sure to bring some over to you next time! We should probably start you off on something a little less complicated, though I'm sure a murder mystery would hardly phase you. There are some really interesting ones about serial killers and hauntings-- Oh! Would fantasy elements throw you off? The change of setting and the way you have to learn how such a different fictional world operates really helps to deepen the mystery. It can be a little frustrating how the storytelling has to keep you a few steps behind the main character, but it certainly keeps you from spoiling it for yourself too early!

[O-oh.

For a moment, Wanderer is thrown by how delighted Heizou is by this. It...almost reminds him of himself, back with Niwa, and the boy, and even Niwa himself in some respects. It almost pisses him off but...it doesn't.

It's....charming? In a way? The hell.]

Everything here is a fantasy world to us, you know. A story that takes place in a fantasy realm is fine.

[For once, Heizou doesn't immediately notice Wanderer's reaction. He's way too caught up in thinking about all the mysteries he's been reading since he got here.]

You're not wrong about that! In that case I'll definitely have a decent amount of books to lend you. The fantasy ones are all part of a series, and I haven't found all of them just yet but you're of course welcome to the ones I haven't finished yet! What about comics? Have you ever read a comic book before?

That sounds like something Yae Publishing would publish.

[So. No.]

[He laughs a little, giving Wanderer an amused look.]

Not a fan of Yae Publishing, hmm?

Though as far as I've seen, Yae Publishing House has never made comics quite like the ones I've found here. They're from different worlds, after all. And the visual element is an interesting twist when it comes to the mystery genre! You can search the images for the clues yourself! It's actually a lot of fun to be able to see visual details as intended by the author through the use of the art. Be sure to let me know if you're up for giving it a try, okay?

I'll stick to regular books for now, I think.

[Heizou just chuckles. He's actually a fan of Yae Publishing House, but it's not hard to see where the great miko herself rubs people wrong. And considering Wanderer's complicated connections with Raiden Shogun... Well. Two plus two is four.]

Regular books it is. Depending on how fast you read, I should have a lineup that'll keep you entertained for a few days at least! You'll have to let me know if you like them, of course. I can curate more for you based on your opinion.

[He's such a happy little nerd right now. He doesn't get to share his interests with many people, after all!]

[It's charming. What the hell. Wanderer has to bite back a smirk.]

[Wow, don't embarrass him!]

Would you like to come over now so I can gather them up for you? It might be easier, since you already have a bag full of clothes that you're carrying.

[Shrug!]

Alright. [Hm.] Maybe I should have found a new bag. None of these outfits have deep enough pockets.

I'm taking that as a yes, you know!

[Heizou's grin settles back into what looks like his much more usual smile, but his eyes are still sparkling with that much more genuine excitement. He loves his mysteries, okay. The idea of sharing them with someone else is exciting for him.]

We'll have to find you a new bag, then. I'm sure we'll find a store on our way~!

[Heading off then! Homeward, for him. And hopefully in the direction of a bag shop of some sort.]

[They end up finding a backpack type bag that will most likely end up Arashi's new napping place when Wanderer isn't wearing his big hat. It isn't as good as his pockets, but he'll deal for now.

As they walk:]

Where do you even live?

[Unfortunately for Wanderer, Heizou pretty much reverted back to his usual demeanor when they resumed shopping. But once they're alone again, this time with Heizou leading the way to his place, he seems... just a little more relaxed than before.]

Not far from here, actually. I found a little apartment that perfectly suited my needs and turned it into something of a home! It isn't much, really. But I'm quite fond of it~

[A shame. The other Heizou is better.]

Is it also in a tree?

[He's still in there somewhere. Give him more opportunities to come back out and you'll see him again!]

[That makes Heizou snort, looking over at Wanderer with an amused look on his face.]

Ha ha, very funny. I think you may have missed your calling as a comedian!
