{ flower festival 2022 }

FLOWER FESTIVAL 2022
The three day Flower Festival has started and the town is covered in blooming flowers, music, smell of good food, and excited atmosphere. Full details on everything can be found here, but an important reminder that this event log doubles as our Test Drive Meme and information can be found in this section.
This means any outside characters participating in the log are canonly logged as appearing in Songerein in April and will remain in Songerein for the rest of the month of April. However, outside characters can only thread within this log, so for those seriously considering the game, you are welcome to use non-festival prompts for your toplevels. Anyone who apps in and is accepted will have their character count April as their first month in the game, so all content will carry over.
IMPORTANT! All outside characters MUST have "TDM" in their subject line, even if you might not app. This will help people differentiate those who are already in the game and those who are not.
TDM threads are required for samples. Refer to the Game Info for general information and feel free to toss any questions here. Reserves will open Sunday, April 24th and Applications will open on May 1st. Our application cycles are bi-monthly so the next cycle after won't be until July.

I. FLOWER VIEWING

There are gardens and flowers everywhere, but the main central location for the flower viewing is around the eastern side of town between the treehouses and the outside fields. Here there are plenty of both open and shaded spaces anyone can take to sit back, have a picnic, and enjoy the flowers blooming in the trees and along the ground. Food stalls are stationed by the treehouses for anyone who needs a meal and they provide blankets and picnic baskets as well.

B. Flower Serenade. Although it's meant to be a calm, relaxing affair, the flowers are drinking in the festive atmosphere and now have a tendency to sing their joy. They are especially drawn to any couples and will start to serenade them with…an assortment of "romantic" songs. Some may be persuaded via calm emotions to quiet down to a more melodious hum while others may be a little more obnoxious.

II. ENTERTAINMENT

All along the market square and the riverbank, stores and booths line the streets to provide goods, food, and entertainment for all festival goers.

B. Game booths. Come one, come all! Try out the various carnival games on offer. The game booths can be found lining around the riverbank and while there are many, here are some of the more popular ones:
Pebble Toss. Use dreamotion to change the color of a pebble and toss it into a bucket of water. The bigger the effect on the water, the more points scored. Earn enough points to win a prize!
- Goose Rings. Try to toss a ring around the neck of a goose sculpture. Which is, of course, magically enchanted to move around and dodge the rings. Being a goose, the sculpture is a bit of a jerk; it’s attuned to players’ dreamotion energy and will absolutely move around more as they get frustrated, so keeping one’s cool is important.
Bubble Pop! Use dreamotion darts to pop magical bubbles floating across a board. Can be played alone (score points by popping as many of one color as possible) or competitively (whoever pops the most of their color wins).
- Flighty Flowers. Create colorful paper flowers and use them to craft a floating lantern. The higher and further the lantern flies, the bigger the prize earned. Or, if one is especially creative or creates especially colorful flowers, they may just win a big prize regardless of how high it flies. Players can keep their lanterns if they wish.
- Smash! Toss balls at a series of bottles to try and knock them over. To keep with the theme of the festival, the bottles are tiny terrariums. Thanks to the magic of the festival,, the plants inside the bottles remain undisturbed no matter how many times they’re knocked over.
Swan Boat Races. Find a boating partner and participate in a timed race where you have to navigate through obstacles and try to post the fastest time with fewest penalties. Use dreamotion to get through obstacles like ramps, slow whirlpools that will cause the boat to spin in place, turbulent waters, etc. If not interested in the races, people are welcome to help paint and decorate the swan boats! They have to match the mood of the festival, after all.
III. TREE OF MEMORIES

At the center of town is a giant tree that is as tall as a clock tower and with giant books about as tall as a person hanging off its branches. There are a few attractions set up here and there are also some small owls that fly around and greet anyone who come by. They serve as the "guardians" of the tree, and should anyone try to harm it, they will converge together to form a giant owl to deal with them.
A. Dream Petals. As the Tree's petals fall, anyone who manages to catch one before it hits the ground will find their secret dream reflected on it. It could be something they are longing for or something they wish to keep from anyone. Once the dream's reflection is complete, it will remain on the petal and can be viewed at any time.

C. Soaring Butterflies. Ever wanted to just ride on something huge and enjoy the flight? There are giant butterflies that are large and strong enough to carry up to three people on their backs. These butterflies are actually local to Songerein and brought in by a native Fae. Whether that makes them more or less trustworthy is up to the character, but the butterflies are definitely frisky—and fast.

IV. FINAL DAY

On the third and final day of the festival, the winners of the Flower King and Queen contest are announced. However, there's a huge surprise as everyone finds themselves in a costume. While all contest participants have their own "Royal Court" theme, everyone else will find themselves suddenly dressed like a flower. There are a lot of variations from elegant to downright silly. Best(?) of all, the costumes will stay on until sundown. While parts may be loosened, altered, and removed for a short period of time, the costume will refuse to be changed out of and any attempts will be futile.

Zelda | Legend of Zelda: Breath of the Wild | Open
1. Flower Viewing
[ An entire festival centered around flowers? Zelda has been positively giddy at the thought since she woke up the first day of April and discovered Reverein's floral transformation.
Zelda will spend sizeable parts of all three festival days partaking in flower viewing all over town. ]
2. Flower Maze
[ Zelda is eager to try to find her way through the flower maze. Did you suggest it to her or has she decided to drag you along? Either way, you're now walking through the maze with the excitable princess, who is (as ever) taking pictures of any particularly curious flora she notices. Zelda is unfazed by any shifting paths or dead ends. Does she even want to get out of the maze? ]
3. Game Booths
[ Carnival games are a novelty to the young princess, so Zelda is apt to try out a number of them. Perhaps you'll find her concentrating on turning pebbles different colors at the pebble toss, losing her temper at goose rings, expertly folding paper flowers to build a lantern, or painting a swan boat for the races. ]
4. Soaring Butterflies
[ This time, you are absolutely the one being dragged along to ride the giant butterflies. Zelda is positively enamored with them. Are you joining her for her first ride or her fifth? The princess has not a shred of fear at the prospect of soaring through the sky. ]
5. Final Day
[ Zelda initially had some misgivings about being nominated for Flower Queen; she's been trying to downplay her royal status, not draw attention to it! Fortunately, the proverbial crowns went to someone else. Zelda is quite content to be lower member of the Royal Court. ]
6. wildcard
[ Surprise me! Any of the other prompts are fair game. Or plot with me at
Flower Viewing though Wildcard-ish
[So Zelda will find Alastor not being an absolute gremlin for once, him having found a little tucked away spot to simply sit and enjoy the feel of the flower petals between ungloved clawed fingers.]
no subject
She heads for the area furthest away from the games and food stalls. There are a few plum trees near the riverside, whose buds are only just starting to open. That seems like a nice place to sit. Alastor will probably hear her approach before Zelda notices him. She has already unhooked her Sheikah Slate from her belt and turned on the screen as she approaches, not seeing him until she comes around the other side of the tree and nearly bumps into him. ]
Oh! [ She starts, taking a step back and looking up from the screen. ] My apologies, I was not--
[ And then she recognizes Alastor, and her voice sinks a little. ] Oh. Excuse me.
[ Yes, she's still a little miffed with you, Alastor. She's been avoiding you since February. ]
no subject
Ah, it's been quite some time, sweetheart! Then again, I imagine that was by design.
[He can tell how unenthusiastic you are to see him again.
So mean!][He turns his head back to the flower as he continues stroking its petals between his utterly atrocious claws. Honestly, it's no wonder he usually wears gloves. (Someone, drag this man to a manicurist.)]
So what brings you to this corner of the Festival?
no subject
For the moment, however, Zelda will say neither. She lingers near him with the awkward body language of someone who can't decide whether they should stay or go. After all, Alastor made it pretty clear in February that he doesn't like or respect Zelda. Otherwise why would he have been so callous to her? ]
I was looking to take a brief reprieve from the festivities. They are lovely, but...
[ But Zelda is feeling a bit overwhelmed from the hustle and bustle. Not that she'll finish that sentence, though. It sounds silly: a princess who gets overwhelmed in social situations. ]
no subject
I understand completely. As a performer, I crave the attention of others but sometimes it's good to take a step backstage and take a break from the show.
[He did say back then that he was a narcissist. And he is one. He's never denied it.]
[He gestures to their surroundings.] If you're looking for permission to stay, my dear, you're more than welcome to. Though I suspect you're still rather cross with me from our previous meeting. [He raises a brow.] Or is there some other reason you've been avoiding me?

But then perhaps Beatrix walking with anyone at all would be a compliment. She hasn't made it a habit to spend much time with anyone. She loves to largely keep to herself and occasionally check in on others that she has deemed of import.]
That thing— [She begins, gesturing to the Sheikah Slate.] —does it tell you about everything here? I would have thought it might be restricted to information from your world.
no subject
It is, actually. [ She explains. ] I add information about objects unique to Songerein manually as I encounter them. However, those which exist in Hyule, like this orange tree, populate their data automatically from the Slate's memory.
[ Zelda holds out the Sheikah Slate so Beatrix can see it as well. A compendium entry for oranges is showing on the screen. ]
no subject
[Such a thing would be practical for just about any place, but she can see how in a new and unfamiliar place, the benefits increase dramatically. If Zelda is compiling information she learns about this place, she acquires a great deal of value. Information itself is of value.
Zelda is most likely the sort who would not be against sharing what she's discovered. After examining the compendium entry for some moments, she turns her attention onto Hyrule's princess.]
Have you considered developing a book of your discoveries? This could be provided to those newer to the area. Available for public perusal. It would allow dreamwalkers like ourselves to establish if there are familiar plants or animals to us. And to learn about the things that are unfamiliar, as well.
no subject
But that doesn't mean she sees herself that way. For as much as she loves science and research, Zelda doesn't consider herself an expert on any of those subjects. There are smarter people in the world than she. They're the ones who will lead the way in scientific breakthroughs, and Zelda will be there to help.
Beatrix's instincts are correct; Zelda is the sort who would (and has) openly share the fruits of her research with anyone interested. But she hasn't even considered the notion that she should publish her findings. ]
That would be quite useful! [ She agrees amiably as she examines the compendium entry for oranges. Hmm, this is only listing locations in Hyrule. Better edit that. ] But I have no experience writing a book, so I am not the best candidate to helm such an important task. Perhaps you should mention it to Jude Mathis or Dr. Mikotoba. I expect they are both excellent authors.
no subject
[Beatrix indicates the slate in particular, tilting her head to the side.
But what Zelda follows up with is a curious thing. Yujin Mikotoba again. The man seems to involve himself in a great number of things. Greenhouses. An attempt to battle against the noctaere. The council. Is there anything he can't do? And the other name... that's the man with the clinic, isn't it?]
If you feel this would be a good idea, perhaps it would be beneficial to work with both of those people. I am no scholar, so I must admit that my assistance would be sparse. I support the pursuit of knowledge, however, and I do think it would help those who come here.

It's good that Zelda picked the shade of a tree, because Phantom withers under direct sunlight. ]
The songs of the earth are borne by the voices of flowers... [ He's just musing, but follows up with something more concretely addressed to her: ] I would not have dreamed of seeing such a sea of blooms in my home.
no subject
A gentle breeze rustles the trees as Phantom speaks, coaxing cherry and apple blossoms to spring from the branches and flutter about like fat little snowflakes. It's almost impossibly picturesque. ]
Is that so? [ Zelda pours tea into two cups, first for Phantom and then for herself. She feels a pang of sadness at the thought of having never seen a sight like this before. ] Well, I'm happy you can share this dream here, at least. I believe everyone should have an opportunity to see nature at its most grand.
no subject
Still, he's not rude enough to let his melancholy weigh on a social gathering. ]
Thank you. [ Miss Christine looks at him after he speaks, and he understands that Look: she's reminding him that he should intentionally avoid gloomy thoughts. ] Is there a particular flower that you favour?
no subject
She offers a cup of tea to Phantom, then takes a saucer from an unused cup and pours a small amount of cream into it. ]
Too many to count, really! [ Zelda says with a little laugh. ] I am a scholar of the natural sciences in my spare time, you see. I could probably fill the rest of the day recounting my favorite flowers. But I suppose there is one in particular that comes to mind first whenever I consider my favorites.
[ She sets the saucer near Miss Christine and reaches for the Sheikah Slate, which has been resting on the corner of the blanket. A little chime sounds as the screen turns on and Zelda expertly navigates her way to a specific picture. ]
I've not seen them anywhere in Songerein, but considering they were thought to be extinct until very recently, I cannot be too surprised.
no subject
He takes the tea from Zelda with quiet thanks; his gaze lingering on the saucer of cream and only returning to Zelda once Miss Christine has sampled it. However, any thoughts about his cat is quickly replaced by curiosity about the Sheikah Slate and the flower shown upon its screen. ]
What is their name?
[ The flower's colour reminds him of the sky. ]

Much less decorated and without wings of any sort, Somnus is draped with a sash of black chrysanthemums across his chest plate. His horns are adorned with a web of blue flowers she may not recognize, the sylleblossom, and the petals flake and fall as his helm tips upward in greeting. Perhaps she hovers at his height, now. ]
Hail, Daughter of Hyrule.
You exercise your flight well.
no subject
Zelda is delighted to find herself at eye level with Somnus when they meet. ]
Somnus! [ She flutters up to him, beaming. ] My thanks. They are surprisingly easy to command.
[ One would have expected six wings to be as awkward as six extra arms, but Zelda is finding their use effortless. ]
You have been festively adorned as well. A gift from a fairy friend? [ Somnus has never struck her as the sort who would dress up in frivolities of his own volition. ]
no subject
Aye, an enchantment. [ His voice does not contain as much of a metallic, cold cadence to it. Perhaps it is the festivities. He continues, ]
Were it not for your voice, you could be mistaken for a fae. It is fortunate indeed these hexes are not detremintal. [ In his case, purely aesthetic. In hers, it brings joy. ]
no subject
Indeed. The fairies have cursed us to much sillier garb than this. [ Like Christmas sweaters. ] Less comfortable, too. [ Like Christmas sweaters. ]
Although in truth, I'm not sure if the fairies are entirely to blame for this... costume. [ She lifts her arms, looking over her outfit. ] This is the garb chosen for those elected to the Royal Court. Perhaps I have the other dreamwalkers to blame.
[ It might sound like a complaint, but her tone is anything but negative. She's honestly amused, if a bit embarrassed, about being nominated for Flower Queen. ]
no subject
This Court gives no responsibilities, does it not? Let it be a sign to do as you will. [ An armored hand lifts, then gestures slowly to his side, as if motioning towards the festival as a whole. The movement causes a flower upon his horns to fall, petals scattering, but he pays it no heed, speaking: ]
This time is yours.

4 with a dash of 1A (day 1 or 2 i guess?)
She make have been taking notes on all the flowers Zelda is telling her about, but she's just about ready to shut her notebook when she sees one or two of those butterflies fly overhead. They're stunning, to put it mildly. She doesn't know whether it would be Zelda's first ride or fifth, but it would definitely be Susato's first.
Speaking of adventurous... ]
Amazing. Someone is riding on its back. [ squints...... ] Ah! That one, too! [ Her eyes flicker to the other butterfly. So cool. ]
going with day 2
She is hooking it back on her belt when Susato points out the butterflies soaring over them. Zelda looks up just in time for two tremendous shadows to pass overhead, their beating wings sending a rustling wind through the trees. ]
Aren't they amazing? I would have expected a gigantic insect to be terrifying, but they are actually quite beautiful in an unconventional way. [ She watches them soar away. ] But their beauty pales before the view they provide.
[ This may be closer to Zelda's fifth ride than her first... ]
no subject
You have been up there? B, But how? ...How do you call for them?
[ Does she just ask nicely? That never works-- ]
no subject
[ Obviously. I mean, who doesn't know about insect diets? ]
Many creatures will come to your call if you offer them something to eat.
[ Zelda speaks with a confident authority that is not entirely earned. Sure, she's a better horseman for Link's coaching, but that doesn't make her an animal handling expert. Riding a giant butterfly is probably a little more difficult than it sounds. ]
