{ GAME OPENING LOG }
✵ GAME OPENING LOG ✵
Normally our TDMs serve as intro logs, but we have prepared a special character intro log for game opening! It is a massive, chaotic feast that can only be found in a dreamworld like Songerein. You can also use this to continue ongoing TDM threads, especially as it nears captcha. Reminder that any thread from the TDM can be carried over. Players are also welcome to make their own logs for things if they would rather skip this part. Be sure to read the Mod Announcement for other information and you can ask any questions regarding the log here.
I. THE FEAST

A. What's Your Sign? Everyone will find themselves mysteriously "tagged" with a special sticker and will suddenly gain special characteristics based off the animal: ears, tails, behavioral traits. They're mostly mild and to add flavor, but they may also feel different compatibility towards another, such as more attracted or opposed. The sticker will be hard to remove, but it is possible to swap with someone if they want to try a different experience.
B. Special Bowls. There are many tables and anyone can sit wherever they want. Just don't forget to pick up the special dinner bowl already personalized with their name on it. Of course there are some extra paints and decorations that can be added to it if one desires.

D. Spice Up Your Li—Meal. However fear not. There is normal food around so it is possible to have a proper meal. However, some helpful little dragons may fly by to add a few herbs and spices to the dishes. They are quite friendly and will listen to requests, however if one is rude or too demanding, they may just dump a bunch of a hot pepper and other unsavory seasoning instead. Make a good enough impression and they might make house calls, even follow someone home. They live to spice up food, after all.
E. Drink Tea. Although there is an assortment of beverages, the prevalent one will be tea. They are similar to the ones found in the cafe and all will help bring out festive dreams and restful sleep later for everyone. However, someone is clearly making mischief as they have slipped in some rodentia tea. Drinking it will cause the drinker to shrink to the size of a rat. The only way to return to normal is to find the elusive cat cookies, which can be strangely hard to find; they seem to vanish and reappear at random, but only the ones with wide grins and “Eat Me” written on them can be eaten.
II. FUN & GAMES
Perhaps the food isn't up to one's tastes, or they just would rather have some fun. There are a few games around the plaza that everyone is welcome to participate in and they are encouraged to play to their heart's content. Just beware of the geese as they are being a menace not only at the tables but disrupting games as well.
A. Playing Chicken. A simple game, really, one that will test one's creativity and taste buds. There is a goat cheese fondue fountain surrounded with various platters of cooked chicken: grilled, steamed, boiled, baked, fried. This fondue fountain, however, is special. The flavor of the fondue can be altered depending on the kinds of emotions near it. Joy and love make it sugary sweet, anger and jealousy spicy hot, despair and distrust salty sour. And of course everything in-between including a chaotic mix. The challenge is one person will try and alter the flavor of the fondue, lather it on a piece of chicken, and then hand it to their opponent. The chicken must then be consumed. If not, the one who "cooked" it wins. If it is consumed, then the second person can now do the same to the other. This continues until one forfeits. It should be noted that the emotions of the one eating can also affect the fondue. (It is of course possible to take either the fondue or chicken without playing this stomach churning game.)

C. Ox Go-Kart. For those who really want some speed and action, there are ox driven carts stationed by various streets. Two people can partner up with one driving and the other serving to help try to slow the other cart down. In this race, all non-lethal, non-destructive abilities are allowed to try and disrupt the other racer. Perhaps utilizing dreamotion based abilities may fare better. Just beware of other obstacles, especially any random crying dodos that create giant pools of tears as water hazards.
D. Tiger Fishing. There are special colorful ponds filled with sparkly gummy koi fish. At each one there is a little round tiger(?) with a pair of tiger mittens. In the same vein of fish scooping games, players must wear the tiger mittens and catch the gummy fish with them. It won't be easy as the gummy fish are even more slippery than normal. Perhaps some other skills could be used...but the little tiger will be watching and will latch onto anyone's heads who try to cheat. But if caught, they will make for a delectable treat—or interesting pet.

( He can't help but say the words he was thinking. It was the truth, though -- no good person would mistreat another creature... She's taking its feelings into as much consideration as possible. )
Alright. ... Thank you for your help. ( Basil carries the snake carefully as he begins to walk -- though he keeps an even pace so she can continue to walk side-by-side with him. )
no subject
[ But it would certainly make a lot of sense. If someone is good to another creature without receiving any gain from it, especially one that's far weaker than they are, that generally speaks well of them. So the same ought to go for animals, right? Naminé takes a moment to process all of this, then angles a small, almost bashful smile Basil's way. On the one hand, his statement could be construed as a compliment to her, but, ]
If that's the case, then you must be a very kind person.
[ It's a two-way street. Nodding at his thanks, Naminé only ever turns her gaze from keeping watch on him and the snake to glance around to check if anyone's looking their way as they walk out of the party and toward the comparative quiet beyond. ]
Of course. I probably scared it earlier when I caught it, so looking after it now is the least I can do, right?
no subject
A-Ah, well... ( He's not entirely sure about that. ) ... M-Maybe.
( In the past, he could have answered that in a more carefree way. But... things changed in a way that he's not sure if he could answer that with confidence. Though, he's always held onto the belief that he'd have memories of when he felt happier. )
It couldn't be helped, right...? Especially if you had a bad experience with them before.
no subject
It's hard, isn't it? To agree with something like that when someone else says it about you.
[ They're two of a kind in that respect. There's too much of her own history clogging up her view of herself - her memory of her past failings has always made it difficult to believe that other people don't see her the same way she sees herself, as someone's who's less than good. Is it like that for him, she wonders? He's certainly reacted in a way she finds familiar.
But she'll turn her face away again out of politeness, clearing her throat faintly as she folds her hands together against her midsection. Nudging that first topic aside, ]
I don't know. Stopping it from hurting anyone was my first reaction, but - if I thought more quickly, maybe I would have been able to tell that it didn't mean any harm.
[ So perhaps it couldn't be happened otherwise to her, but another person might have done better? Except it's not necessarily her fault she isn't that person... ]
Even if I couldn't help what happened at the time, it still seems like something I ought to pay back. That might not change the past, but... it's better than doing nothing, isn't it?
no subject
He can't help but be grateful when she changes the subject.
Still, he listens to everything she has to say. He can't help but think that the two do have far more in common than he had first thought upon meeting her... He understands being scared of something that feels so unknown and dangerous at first. )
... I... It's hard to face the things we're scared of. ( He... knows that firsthand, too. )
But... you're a lot more brave than you think. You decided to face your fears quickly.
( He can't help but want to reassure her, though he can't help but stop at what she says next. Their conversation has him thinking of the past. )
Do you... think that we can make up for past mistakes with kindness?
no subject
The second, though, gives her pause. That's a generous thing to say, and her head lowers a little further as she hears it. ]
If I am, it's only because I've learned what happens when I let fear control me. I don't think I can afford to allow it to keep happening.
[ Despite her bashfulness, there's a certain gratitude in her voice, a brief flicker of a wry but appreciative smile before Basil's question takes over her attention. Blinking, the girl straightens up slightly, head lifting again. ]
I... wonder about that too, sometimes. I can't say that I really know for certain what makes up for past mistakes, if anything does.
[ Spoken like someone who has plenty of them to regret. ]
But what I do know is that it's important to learn from them, and to try to keep them from happening again. And I think that part of that is being kind; it's-- trying to be a better person to than you were before, especially to the others that you've wronged.
[ Or the individual, depending on the situation. Softer, ]
Whether or not they forgive you is their decision to make.
no subject
Maybe it's selfish of him to feel that way. No -- it must be. What happened... It's his burden to bear.
He remains quiet for a while before he speaks. )
That might be the scariest part -- confessing what we've done to others. But... forgiving ourselves -- and others forgiving us... I... I think that's what could help someone move on from what they've done.
no subject
None of it is ever easy, [ she admits. ] Not if you truly regret what happened.
[ Like she does, like others she knows do. Breathing a quiet sigh, the girl turns to regard the way ahead of them. ]
Still, I don't think I believe that holding onto that regret helps make up for the past. Often it's much easier for us to be forgiven by others than it is for us to forgive ourselves. I've seen it happen that way a few times already...
[ No, perhaps she shouldn't tell stories on Riku - at least not to such a new acquaintance. Letting the thought trail off, she offers Basil a faint, almost commiserative smile. ]
So-- I agree. It's hard, but... sometimes telling the truth and moving on is what's best for everyone.
no subject
... I'm sorry. ( He says it out of sympathy, and he can't help but wonder how long she had to go through the burden of regret. )
I... I don't know what you went through, but... I know that it was hard. It... sounds like you ended up doing what you could, though.
( As for Basil... He's not sure if his actions are something that's forgivable... But, telling his friends the truth isn't something he's sure he has the strength to do. )
no subject
With slight breathlessness, the girl confesses, ]
I tried to, even... even though by then, it was almost too late.
[ Definitely too late to avoid the guilt, though. ]
But you know? Everything turned out much better than I could have ever hoped. It might have taken me too long to do the right thing, but I'm glad that I did.
[ Given what she's seen in Basil already, Naminé's not entirely sure what to hypothesize the source of his sadness is exactly, yet it's no secret to her that they've got a few things in common, and remorse seems to be one of them. So, with a hint of caution in her tone, ]
I hope that whatever happens, and whatever you decide to do in the future - that it'll be the same for you.
