[ Shigeru is...gone, now. Unnamed understands that. He misses him a lot (a lot), but he doesn't think that Shigeru would want him to sit around moping about it day in and day out. Shigeru liked to help him--has helped him, and now that he's feeling a little more confident about it, Unnamed decides that it's time to start this day off with something helpful. Something good. ]

Today I practice with friends at Town. You come too if you want

[ And just like he says, Unnamed is sitting and waiting in the main plaza near a fountain, his journal propped up against its side with the words "SIGN LANGUAGE" printed in large font. He's hoping one or two people will at least show up, but that isn't necessary to interact with him. If he sees someone he knows he'll lift a hand to wave and come to greet them.

A lot of people he knows have gone home recently okay he needs to make sure you don't go anywhere either ;w; ]

[ Oh no! Susato looks alarmed when he... starts actively signing. She nearly drops her pen, struggling to reply. Her handwriting is probably a little worse than usual. ]

I'm sorry, I don't know it that well yet.

[ Practice would be the reason she came in the first place, isn't it? ...Susato can read the excitement on his face, holding her notebook so that he can read it while she writes. ]

He offered to care for the clinic and also helped me clean it after my father woke. He was very kind.

[ It is not like she knew him terribly well, alas, but he will be missed. ]

[ Did he know Shigeru well... Oh boy, what a question. He wants to think he does. He spent a lot of his time with Shigeru. Learned a lot from Shigeru. His absence feels like a physical thing to him, a loss he can't quite place.

Shigeru teach me Sign Language. Read write. Shigeru give me words. I don't read write before I meet Shigeru. He always nice to me. Shigeru good person. I like him a lot.

[ The fondness definitely shows in his posture and everything he does. Susato smiles, pausing to appreciate it before she puts pen to paper once more. ]

The gift of words is a wonderful thing. I think Shigeru-san would be quite pleased with what you are doing with it.

[ Carrying on his work... ]

Perhaps we could help each other?

[ He's not sure what the -san means after Shigeru's name, but he keeps it in the back of his mind to ask for later; Susato's second line of text is what grabs his attention when he reads it, expression lighting up.

He nods quickly. ]

Yes! We help? I teach Sign Language. You help read write please?

[ She grins, her own expression lighting up in turn.

(And she will be happy to explain Japanese honorifics to him in time.) ]

That is why I am here! Apologies if I am late. I had to finish working. [ Or at least, get through the dinner rush! ]

The Wild Harvest, a restaurant. My [ She abruptly stops writing for a second. The term feels too modern for her, and that's because it is, but she's learned it...and occasion, she'll use it. ] boyfriend's restaurant.

[ And then she'll set her notebook aside and make stirring motions in the air, like she's stirring something in a biiig bowl. Pretty sure that's not how you say "cook" or "food" in sign. ]

[ It's...sort of similar, depending on which kind of Sign Language one is learning. He knows the word in written form, so when he recognizes and sees her miming the motion, he has a lightbulb moment and nods.

"You are a cook!" he signs, though really it's just him pointing to her, then making the sign for 'chef'. ]

I know! You cook. Chef? Yes?

[ Oh. Watching him gesture, she decides, yes, that is definitely what she meant. She will do her best to repeat the gesture, though depending on how fast he was gesturing in his excitement, she might need a repeat performance.

Either way, she'll mimic him, in hopes of saying "Yes, I am a cook!"

...Then she'll return to the comforts of a pen. ]

Yes! A chef. I cooked a lot for my family when I was growing up. What do you like to eat, Noriyuki-san?

[ "I eat meat!" is right on the tip of his tongue (as it were), but he pauses before the words can take shape on the page. It's true that he likes meat, but it's also something that he hasn't eaten in a while now.

...He hasn't eaten much of anything in the last few weeks, has he? The realization feels a bit odd. It's not like he's hungry the way other people tend to be. Nothing in him wants to eat or snack three times a day, but he's always just sort of...done it, whenever food was available. ]

I ate meat but not now. Animals friends so stop eating.

[ She would have brought him a meal if she'd known! As it is, she can only wonder what he's thinking about, then gives him a look of understanding. ]

We always offer a vegetarian option for those who don't or cannot eat meat. You should stop by for a meal soon!

[ And then she'll scribble down an address and some general directions on how to get there. The restaurant is on the ground floor of Kazuma's home, so he will find that it's located in the Residential District. ]

[ Aw crud, vegetables again. The one thing he could never get Shigeru to let up on. He knows he shouldn't make such a fuss over it with someone he just met, but he can't help the way his expression twists a little.

Vegetables...are not a zombie's favourite food, that's for sure. But he's got to be polite about it! So he quickly copies down the information she's given him and decides to ask instead: ]

Do your restaurant have spicy food? Peppers?

[ Those he can eat, even if the flavour and texture aren't his favourite. The spiciness in the peppers is great. The hotter, the better!

[ That expression is super concerning! If not meat, then what? She probably should have asked outright. But at the very least, she can take delight in her next answer: ]

We do! Special peppers from the farmlands. Very spicy. We put them in ramen and curry.

We even held a contest quite some time ago.

Contest? What is contest?

[ That word might've come up once or twice before, but he can't recall off the top of his head what it means. He's...drawing sort of a blank on it. Huh. That doesn't usually happen. ]

[ He doesn't know what a contest is? Susato thinks, like she's never had to explain it before, and after a moment: ]

It is a ~~competition~~ [ Wait, what if he doesn't know what that is either? ] a game. Usually there is a winner and a loser, or sometimes multiple of both. In this case, however, we only wanted to see who would able to finish a whole bowl of the curry or ramen.

[ Ohh, it's like the thing Emet-Selch did at the theatre--a competition! Talent show? Point is, he knows what she's talking about now and that's a really good feeling. It's proof that he's making progress. ]

I know that! Talent show at theatre had contest. Yes? Is curry and ramen food? Or game?

[ He's got it! Susato nods, appearing excited. ]

They are food. Very spicy food. If you were able to finish a bowl without incident, we considered you a winner.

What is incident? Not eat all food?

[ He tilts his head at the new vocabulary, but if the contest was to see who could finish it all...an incident was maybe something that meant they didn't manage to eat everything? He wonders if he could try the next contest--he likes "spicy." ]

[ Susato opens her mouth, about to respond, but then she stops.

The fact that he's deaf aside, he's also not wrong? ]

Yes. The requirement was that you finish your bowl without anything bad happening. I even had a friend who breathed out fire and accidentally ruined one of our table cloths.

[ Breathed out fire... He's seen that before. Is that-- ]

Yes! At the bath. I was scared! I don't like fire.
