{ Saving Oz }

SAVING OZ
After a month of increasingly windy weather, it all comes to a head when a giant book appears right above the town of Reverein. It opens its pages facing the town and a large tornado emerges, descending down to cover the entire town. Miraculously, no buildings are destroyed, but the entire population is sucked up into the air and into the pages of the book. It's a wild, twisting ride until everyone crash lands into a strange city all in emerald green. The tapirs make their usual rare appearance and look around before gasping, "Oh! It's the Emerald City from The Wonderful Wizard of Oz! Looks like a mess though… And so do you!"
As pointed out, everyone will find themselves dressed or transformed into some semblance of one of the five main characters: Dorothy, Toto, Scarecrow, Tin Woodman (Tinman), and the Cowardly Lion. They could be wearing authentic costumes, have an almost complete appearance change, partial transformation, and anywhere in-between. While they are mostly stuck in whichever "role" they've been initially cast in, they can temporarily change if a different role would work better. They gain additional abilities fitting of the character, such as the Scarecrow unable to bleed as they are now made of straw, the Tinman always wearing or made of some kind of metallic armor, the Lion have wind blasting roars and the strength of a real lion, Toto able to become a real dog, and Dorothy has their charisma stat shot up through the roof. Everyone will be able to use their dreamotion and original abilities as well, so they can be even more creative. While there are no complete personality changes, some may feel some "adjustments" to fit their role at times. Some roles will be more effective for certain tasks and objectives, and they will receive additional buff bonuses to help clear it.
With the help of local citizens who have formed their own rebel force, everyone must now help push back the nightmare force that has taken over this story and lure out the mysterious new "Wizard" that is the source of all this chaos. If they can fill a giant emerald with positive dreams and launch it at the "Wizard," then it'll be a mission success.
For any questions, refer to the Game Notes and comment there.
I. HELPING THE CITY

Emerald City is a mess, but not lost. The rebel force has a base set up to help direct everyone and serves as the main camp for aid and rest. There's plenty to do, and now that they have "Dorothy and her friends" again, they may be able to win back their proud city. Oh, if only they could find the Princess Ozma...

B. Statued. Many citizens have been turned into statues, scattered all over the city and outside the walls. They need to be moved to safety first before a cure can be used as it takes time to fully work. Special sleighs fashioned after the Gump are available to help carry any statued citizen to safety; just be careful when driving it as they are very unpredictable. Once in a safe spot, a few drops of the potion will start the curing process. The many witches that cursed everyone to begin with are still out and about, ready to turn anyone unaware into statues. Strangely, the spell bounces off metal, so those cast as the Tinman will be great in offering support and could even try and reflect the spell back onto the witches to turn them to statues instead.

D. First Aid. For any who prefer to stay out of combat and help the wounded and scared, the base camp is stocked with medical supplies, food, and other necessities to help weather out the attack. They do need to be resupplied, however, so those more daring to venture either into the city or outside the walls to get items should take someone capable of defending just in case. Some places include an orchard of lunch pail trees that grow fully stocked lunch pails filled with various foods. Lions will be great at climbing them while Scarecrows can shoo away annoying crows. Another is gathering wood in a cursed forest where the trees have become Fighting Trees. The Tinman's ax is lethal against them and will chop through them easily.

II. FIGHTING FOES

There are numerous enemies attacking the city, but while some are original to the story, many are abnormal creations or noctasers, the unholy union of noctaere and the Story Eater's minions, Erasers. Of course the Story Eater would have a hand in this! But with the advantages gained by the roles, they can be defeated.

» BONUS: THE GOLDEN CAP. The Winged Monkeys were once free but after the Golden Cap was ripped apart to steal its magic and now many are once again enslaved. Dorothy can convince the originals to join their side, if they have some Golden Cap fragments that appear when a noctaser is defeated. The more noctasers defeated, the more fragments collected and the more Wheelers and Winged Monkeys will join their side!

III. SWEET DREAMS

The Projector of Dreams has been set up and several beds with the magical headsets are available to those who wish to volunteer and produce positive dreams that will be used against the Wizard. These dreams will be funneled into a giant emerald that will be launched from a cannon at the Wizard once lured out.
A. Positive Dreams. To help the Projector, positive dreams are needed. These dreams will briefly be projected onto the emerald so those nearby monitoring things may catch a glimpse of the dream. Perhaps those who are dreaming will have theirs be more interactive to try and get others in and create a stronger positive experience.

monkeys!
He lifts his own scepter, ready to cast a spell at the marked target, when doubt overcomes him. He has no reason to doubt the woman, yet here he is. ]
What makes you so sure?!
[ Any attack would cull their numbers, which is a good thing. Yet now with a specific target, he's afraid of missing. Best procrastinate by asking unnecessary questions. ]
no subject
Finally, she turns to look at him, expression softer and braids swaying in the wind. It feels like the monkeys could whip them up into the sky with the way their wings beat quickly and angrily. A loosely held fist raises to her chest, and Aerith speaks in a measured tone, conviction in her words. ]
It's all... wrong. Everything about it feels wrong.
[ It is not supposed to be here. ]
no subject
It really isn't an answer, but things have been completely out of sorts and nonsensical since arriving in the city. The stranger is a fellow dreamwalker--best he can do is trust her. ]
I suppose that's a good enough reason.
[ Especially with nightmares in play.
He doesn't give his answer much breathing room as he thrusts his off-hand, holding his focus forward. When he sees that the dark hand is much too slow to keep up with the creature's momentum, he takes a half a step forward with a swoop of his other hand--thorned vines shoot from his arm, entangling the marked beast.
For a second, surprise colors his expression. He got it! ]
Now!
blease dont mind how incomprehensible that last tag was? my god
[ It's a lot of noise to hear ears that goes quiet, silenced under the weight of her focus. She shifts her weight to one foot, and then reaches out: nothing happens, unsurprisingly. A flying monkey even makes a noise, like a car puttering out. With a huff, she tries again— this time, it holds: the monkey is sliced in h... a quarter. It's sliced in a quarter, only to leave a chunk of something gold in it's wake. ]
Phew. Thanks, Eustace. [ Breathing out, she turns back to Trahearne, and pumps one fist. Mission accomplished— until a monkey tosses a pie right between them. ]
Whoops— no time to relax. That's another way to tell...
[ Aerith's gaze zones in on the crowd of monkeys again. It feels like they're trying to... get her attention? It's hard to say... Almost like they also know that whatever that is shouldn't be there. Must be strange for them, too. ]
The ones that belong here aren't looking to hurt us. [ What's a bunch of whipped cream going to do, after all? ] Ready for another?
[ She's locked on one already, scepter still in hand. Can't do this alone, after all. ]
IT IS OKAY. i comprehended it

[ A secure as she leads, his reply is similarly determined. This "tin man", who is entirely hollow and metal throughout, may indeed be in need of a heart, but the literal absence of one does not deter his steadfast march. By stature and stance alone, he appears unperturbed by the threat of witches and battles alike, continuing without so much as a wary glance behind. For the sake of this realm, the princess will be found. ]
Perhaps in yonder tower, she yet awaits.
[ In the event of a siege, surely one of two things would happen: either her guards would usher her out, or she would flee to the last refuge of the palace, far from fighting. ]
no subject
Hello?
[ Hands cupped over her mouth, she cries out into the empty city. ] Anyone home?
[ When the silence greets them, she turns to look at him again. ] Guess not. [ With a shrug, she keeps walking. It isn't terribly long until they find a structure with a dilapidated roof, the crack so wide that Aerith thinks they're going to need a lot more glue than what they have. ]
What do you think? Princess hunt, or... [ Stick to the plan? ]
no subject
[ The emerald towers of the city pierce the sky like gargantuan trees of a forest. He strides past Aerith, looking towards one of the taller spires. ]
Perhaps she will enlighten us as to the reason for this seige.
no subject
[ It isn't particularly necessary, but Aerith hops over a fallen chunk of what may have been foundation at some point in it's life, but is debris now. The city has been torn asunder, and there's a great deal in their way, and even more to inspect. The prospect should be daunting, but knowing that there's likely people out here keeps her pushing forward. ]
Phew. I hope so, but who knows? Spot anything up there, big guy? Princesses, hopefully...?

positive dreams ⭐
Feeling more weight than she is used to at her wrists, she looks to see bracelets shimmering with gold, and on her other hand, a watch that looks almost too fancy for her tastes.
. . . What was she doing again?
Aerith's voice pulls her back. Her red dress is stunning. This can't be the first time she has seen it, but she very much feels like it is. This isn't the Harvest. This is... ]
Tifa? [ Scarcely able to gather her thoughts, Susato doesn't even remember lying down or putting on a headset. She's just filled with a vague desire to help, but she's not sure where, or with what. Maybe Tifa is the answer. ] Is Tifa in trouble?
no subject
Not if we get a say in it! [ Fists on either side of her, she leans a little closer, and then gestures. ] Go on! I'll be right behind you. I promise.
no subject
H, Huh? Inside? But--
[ Will she even fit in? Is that why she's dressed like this? There's definitely a heavy feeling that she doesn't belong. She shakes her head. ]
No, of course. This is for Tifa, so I will. But why don't I remember?
no subject
A beat of silence rolls over them. ]
Cloud...?
[ No, that's not the name of the person in front of her. ]
S...Susato?
[ That's it, right? Her brows knit together. It has to be. ]

wheeling monkeys
Aight! Leave it to me!
[Despite the odd way his scarecrow body moved, being able to soundsurf still made it so he was quick on his feet. He suddenly zips behind the marked monkey when it gets down low. It's worth noting a little precarious what Beat had been doing the entire time he's been fighting off the wheelers in the body he's in. He's suddenly engulfed in a ball of fire before he dashes forward to tackle the monkey. Its fur singes and its skin burns from the heat as it tries to fly away and out of Beat's path.
The fire suddenly dies down and Beat begins to look around to try to catch sight of it once again. He doesn't seem to have noticed the small lick of fire still alight at the very tip of the hat on his head.]
Did we get it?
no subject
Aerith nods, beaming. ] We did! You're on fire.
[ ... ]
No, really. You're on fire.
no subject
Hell yeah I am!
[It doesn't seem like he realizes what she had meant though despite saying it was literal. The tiny flame crawls down the straw sticking out of his hat and begins to catch fire. All the while, Beat seems blissfully unaware, too busy celebrating their victory.]
Tha's whatchu get when you mess with me!
no subject
And motion for him to put himself out. Waving her palm, as if it were a fan, concern decorating her expression now, Aerith starts to get really worried. What happens if he actually catches all the way on fire?! ]
No! You caught fire! Stop, drop and roll!!

positive dreams. I'm sorry, I had to... I will leave it up to you if dream!Aerith recognizes her ;D
Wall Market...?
Tifa would know this place anywhere. Except there's something that feels... off about it.
Looking down at herself, she's dressed in a long blue and black dress, a silk corset tied about her torso, and her hair is set in two perfect braids that cascade over either shoulder and secured with pink bows at the ends. She shifts, uncomfortable, the fabric heavy and weighing her down, and it's only then that Tifa manages to catch a glimpse at herself. This dress is—!?
"Don't you want to save Tifa?"
...
...... Wait.]
Huh?
[She blurts the question out loud the moment Aerith's voice pulls her out of her thoughts, and her eyes go wide and round.]
What do you mean?
no subject
Did you forget? [ She speaks, with a tilt of her head. ] Madame M said there was someone who wants to meet you. Just... go on in and you'll get all set up.
[ A beat. ]
I think!
no subject
Oh, sweet Saint Shiva, she's Cloud, isn't she? Aerith sees her as such but to Tifa, she looks just like herself. Feels like herself minus the fact that she's wearing this dress that she admired Cloud in, and the fact that her friend doesn't recognize her as herself.
...]
This is... [The thought comes out slow at first as Tifa takes a look around.] The Honeybee Inn?
[If this is for the projector with the positive dreams, she's just going to have to play along, isn't she? Despite her confusion—]
And where am... er, where's Tifa?
[—and now weird it is to say that.]
no subject
Are you feeling alright, Cloud? [ She's suspicious now, but not concerned. Instead... ] Corneo's mansion, alone, with all his goons! Don't you remember?
[ It hadn't been Cloud's idea to go after her, after all. It had been Aerith's, born from an abundance of worry and familiarity with the Don and his tactics of suppression. He was a cautious, paranoid sort, the kind to take advantage of any weakness he could uncover, and rub your face in it. A true bad guy, one who would do just about anything to come out on top, and she had no intention of ever leaving someone alone in his clutches, much less a friend. ]
You're going after her.

Wheeling Monkeys
Luckily Aerith’s call did get her attention after trying (and failing) to separate winged monkeys from disguised noctasers for what felt like hours. Time to weed out this suspicious monkey!)
Great thinking! I have been waiting to see if this one is actually a noctaser in disguise for a long while now. Here goes nothing.
(Despite having a form of a scarecrow, Anya decides to set up her rake on fire by channeling dreamotion energy into it through her straw arms, runs towards it and proceeds to strike at the creature with all her might. Once the attack lands on the thing, the not real winged monkey screams in horror as it is set ablaze, unable to move or fly away from her.)
no subject
Wonderful!
[ Rushing over, she holds her hands up for a double high-five. They got this! ]
no subject
(High fives for defeating the noctaser in disguise. Anya is pretty happy to be of any help, which has been ingrained her onto through her original duty as an Imperial Grand Duchess.)
Those noctasers are so good in disguising themselves into the scenery that it could be hard to find a difference between them and the real monkeys.
