[Now that the residents of Songerein are settling in it seems that a group of uncanny key kids (and a few others) have come together to make a nice little collection of connecting treehouses. The houses are dreamed up and put together with a patchwork of wooden bridges and boards and spruced up with fairy lights that glow and hang from the rafters. The treehouses are high in the canopies of thick trees and the balcony sections are open and breezy for any visitors to come to walk up the steps and see.

Down below the treehouses on the ground seems to be a rather flourishing garden of sunflowers. Where they come from or how they sprouted is still unclear. But it is joined with a rather chubby-looking chicken that pecks at the ground occasionally. Along with the grazing chicken, there seems to be a whoosh of dragonfly wings as a large dragonfly has taken to the treehouse as a home too. And what is this? It seems they might have a small collection of blue birds that won't leave the house alone. What other creatures are out and about?

Dreammotion energy seems to be strong around the treehouses. As the trees house a collection of boys with vivid and wild imaginations. Sometimes lights will flicker brighter or plants will bloom with various strange flowers. And the smell of baking chocolate and cookies is always in the air.]

[ Well that little confession makes his eyes go wide. Just a fraction. To have Sora say such things... Though to him it really is about rescuing someone from a situation, right? ]

Who said anything about missing anyone?

[ Vanitas doesn't miss her! Nope! ~~Only he does~~ ]

[After what he's heard of Eorzea he thought that maybe Mira would have been happier with them. He didn't know as much about her past as Vanitas did, but it's just what he wondered...

He tilts his head.]

Come on, I think I know what you mean when you say most things these days. You can't fool me. You miss her.

[He does too??]

[ Honestly Vanitas doesn't know the answer to that one. One would think that Mira would be happier without the pressures of Eorzea. However she's a bit like Sora in the sense that she thinks that saving the world is her responsibility. So she's not really going to want to abandon it. ]

...Yes. You are getting a little too good at reading between the lines of my words. Stop that.

[ Only don't. Vanitas sighs. ]

Maybe I do. It's weird having her around so much and now not at all.

[Sora's expression softens and then he makes sure to come and hug Vanitas, pressing their cheeks together with the flying kitten gently smushed between the two of them.]

Nah, I don't think I'll stop anytime soon. If I can't feel your emotions I just gotta get better at the rest of it.

[He presses cheek to cheek. Half to annoy Vanitas half to give him attention.]

It's okay to miss people, though. It means you care and that's okay too.

[ Breezy does protest at this treatment! She deserves better than this, she will have you know. But Vanitas? He doesn't mind the treatment too much. Sora is rather clingy but that's okay. Vanitas gets that way too. When it's just the two of them.

So the attention doesn't annoy him. Rather, Vanitas just grunts and presses back. ]

Can't some parts of me still remain a mystery yet?

[ He only takes a step back so that he can release Breezy. It's okay to miss someone... ]

I'm just wondering when I became such a sap.

[He tugs Vanitas slightly just to prove that he's really not going anywhere. It's some sort of luck that they arrived in this place together and weren't separated by some other force. Since Sora's usual luck is that he's usually ripped away from his friends and loved ones. He misses Mira. But he would have been heartbroken without this boy.]

Hey, don't give up on that yet. It still feels like I get to learn new things about you all the time.

[Just because Sora can tell most things now doesn't mean he still isn't surprised by Vanitas. He's still so into him.]

But I dunno maybe I've rubbed off on you too much now, huh? Since everyone always calls me the sap?

[ It really is a theme for Sora, isn't it? Being ripped apart from the ones that he cherishes right as it seems as though he will get to be with them. Vanitas honestly hasn't thought about it like that and, unless pointed out to him directly, he won't see if from that perspective. ]

Tch. Only because you are learning them as I begin to learn them about myself.

[ Because that's how it is. Vanitas is still growing and learning. Even though right now it feels more like he is backsliding because he no longer has those stable connections with his heart.

Though some things do cling to him still - as Sora points out right there. ]

I'm thinking that you might be one of the culprits, yes. Such a corrupting influence you have on me, Sora.

[Sora is keeping this blessing to himself. This is one of the first times he's ever been whisked away somewhere strange and actually found someone he loves so quickly. He's holding that close to his heart and hoping it doesn't get stolen away. Without having to worry or bother Vanitas with that unease he carries in his heart.

He much rather focuses on the fact that what Vanitas says is very true. He's growing and changing every single day. Into the person he wants to be. Separated from the simple definitions they use to carry.]

Haha! Now that I think about it, how long has it been now since we've been like this? It feels like it's been forever already.

[ The question brings Van up short. He frowns, Breezy giving an inquisitive "mrow" as she hovers there in the air. She's giving them some space, but not a great amount. Apparently the little thing still prefers to linger towards Vanitas who - without thinking - gives her pets upon her small head. ]

You mean... How long have we been together?

[ There's still a little "tsk" as he thinks on it. ]

It was a year there and... How many other months that we've been here.

[ Had that been a literal question? Well whatever the case, Vanitas is taking it literally and answering in kind. ]

[Sora laughs and shakes his head. That is mostly the question...]

Yeah, sure. But I mean... Since we've been away from home. Since you've been away from... You know.

[The gross old man, the darkness... all of that.]

Since you've got to be you.

Oh.

[ Something far more straight forward. Of course Sora would think of that whereas Vanitas wouldn't even have reason to contemplate how long that's been. ]

I'd day maybe getting closer to about two years now. That's half of the time I had spent on that wasteland.

[ His time with Xehanort... Even now Vanitas doesn't really talk about it much. ]

[The topic really hasn't come up all that often, no. And Sora doesn't always like to push it but he has to admit he is still carefully curious about that time in Vanitas' life.

He reaches up to flick a lock of hair playfully from Vanitas' cheek.]

I'm glad we found each other, you know.

[It's better than what it used to be.]

[ Since Sora's going to engage in that... Vanitas huffs and reaches up to Snatch Sora's nose. Give it a little tug. It's that cute aggression kicking in. Got to bring himself down. ]

I...

[ He looks down a moment. Glares at the ground. That's Vanitas' form of a pout. ]

Me too. I don't know... I don't know how I would have reacted in the end.

[He makes a small noise and then lets out a childish little honking noise when Vanitas yanks his nose. A silly little moment and Sora isn't ever flinchy about Vanitas' moments of cute aggression. It's almost like Vanitas doesn't know what else to do with himself sometimes and it's cute.

Then when he looks down Sora watches him. He leans in a little closer.]

I'll always find you. No matter what.

[It's a promise because he really would rewrite the stars for Vanitas. He knows Vanitas won't believe him when he says it. That's why he'll say it again and again.

He'll lean in gently to kiss him on the corner of the mouth. Gentle.]

Because I'd miss you more than anyone else.

[ It's because sometimes he doesn't know what to do. The feelings are so intense. So overwhelming. The moments of happiness. Fulfillment. Contentment. Vanitas feels so full to the point of running over and what is he to do in those moments?

He rests his forehead against Sora's. ]

You better. If you don't, then I will come after you and it won't be pleasant.

[ A kiss is given. A kiss is returned. ]

I don't want to miss anyone else.

[It's so crazy to feel how much Vanitas just makes his heart squeeze like that. When he lets his guard down and says things that he really means. It happens often now. But vulnerability and honesty are appreciated. Even the threats.]

I give you permission to beat me up if I don't keep my promise.

[Kisses are given and that poor pet cat with wings is probably thinking "really? right in front of my salad?"]

[ This poor cat is probably so used to it by now, truth be told. It's not like Vanitas and Sora keep their hands to themselves after all. They always seem to be engaging in some physical contact after all. ]

Tch. I'll do more than beat you up. You know I wouldn't be satisfied with only that...

[ Probably beat him senseless then kiss him breathless. ]

I count on that.

[He grins after that making sure to at least pinch Vanitas in the side playfully before he pats the kitten on the head again.]

But! We've made it this far together! Who knows what will happen to us next! I think we'll be able to make a lot of new friends here. And I think Mira would want us to keep going.

[ He might pinch Vanitas, but Van? He's grabbing at Sora again and giving him a firm kiss to the cheek. Maybe a little wet just to be something of a brat. ]

She would. That doesn't mean I am really looking to make any new friends, Sora.

[ Vanitas is still not the best at it. ]

[Sora will make a noise of small annoyance but he'll let the wet kiss happen. Vanitas cooties are just something he lives with now.]

Hey, you might not be able to control that part. You're gonna make friends one way or another.

[It's going to happen. Accept it! Vanitas is better at this than he thinks he is! Sora believes in him too!]

[ Just like Sora cooties are something he has to contend with. Daily. ]

Augh. You're probably right, but that doesn't mean that I have to really acknowledge it. Honestly I just think that places like these introduce people that are outliers and that it's just going to -

[ Set him up for when they go back home. That's what he had been about to say. Which causes him to frown. See, this implies quite a few things. That 1) he will be going back to their home and not to die and that 2) he still thinks that people aren't going to like him and that's something he seems to care about! ]

Never mind.

[Sora really screeches the brakes right there and gives Vanitas quite the surprised look. For a long time, it's been a point of contention between the two of them. Sora thinks Vanitas should come home with him and Vanitas thinks he shouldn't. What's changed?]

What? No, that's not a Nevermind to me! It's going to what? You're okay with making friends even if you don't wanna say so?

[Explain!! He's going to jostle Vanitas.]

That has nothing to do with anything that I was going to say, Sora. There's really no need to make any more friends. We're bound to get ripped from this world anyway. You'll go back to your home and I...

[ Well. At least he doesn't immediately say it, right? This time he doesn't outright say that he'll just die. ]

So I'm fine. As is.

[Sora feels that little telltale drop in his heart when the implication is still there. Maybe things haven't changed. But he has to wonder if Vanitas thinks about it. If any of this is worth it or not.]

I think it's important for us to make memories no matter what happens to us in the future. If we're not living for what we have now how can we for the future? Making friends is always worth it.

[Yes, he will be pushy about Vanitas making friends- because he thinks it's good for him. And he doesn't want Vanitas to think they don't have a future. That's just... too sad.]

[ Well if they had still been connected, then Sora would have known better than to think that. He would have realize Van's slip for what it had been. ]

I've been wondering that myself.

[ Why is he working on all of these things... Holding on to them... If there is no future.

Maybe he does have some kind of hope buried deep. ]
